Honestly, when I have to talk about Japanese hotels, I remember an episode from the famous film starring Audrey Hepburn. The first thing that comes to mind when you get into a Japanese hotel room is the words of Princess Anne, the heroine of the Roman Holidays. Walking into the room Joe Bradley was renting, she asked, “What is this, an elevator?”
A distinctive feature of the vast majority of rooms in Japanese hotels is their, to put it mildly, small size. I think anyone who has stayed there at least once will agree with this. Of course, it is possible to find quite spacious rooms, especially outside large cities. But this is the general rule. However, if you look at the question from the other side, this feature only makes the trip more interesting and memorable.
As compensation for its modest size, one can consider the fact that Japan provides opportunities to take advantage of absolutely unique types of housing that you will not find anywhere else in the world. But first things first.
Best areas to live in Tokyo
One of the most famous areas in Tokyo is Marunouchi, which is located in the central part of the city. There are a large number of interesting shopping centers, shops, restaurants and, of course, hotels. Maranouti is located very close to the station, making it easier for you to get to your accommodation.
The Akihabara area is a true paradise for anime and manga lovers. There are many stores selling electronics and cosplay supplies here.
Ueno is located in the old part of the capital, where you can see a stunning open-air market.
Shibuya is one of Tokyo's largest shopping and entertainment districts, and at its station you can see a statue of the famous loyal dog Hachiko.
Common features of Tokyo hotels
Talking about the specifics of Tokyo districts and their hotel opportunities, I somehow mentioned all the main accommodation options.
Summarizing what has been said about Tokyo hotels, we can highlight some distinctive characteristics inherent in all of them to varying degrees.
Firstly, there are a lot of hotels in Tokyo; if you wish, you can find accommodation options to suit every taste. But not for every wallet.
Tokyo is an expensive city; here, especially in the central regions, there is virtually no budget hotel segment, to which Russian tourists are accustomed in Europe. The analogue of the European two stars in Tokyo will be hostels, which are on a slightly different level in terms of service and surroundings.
On the other hand, Tokyo hotels of any price segment are characterized by cleanliness and well-functioning, friendly service. Over many years of traveling around Japan, I have never encountered rudeness from hotel staff. I'm not even talking about theft. You can safely leave any things in the rooms without worrying about their safety. In European-style hotels they speak English, there are no difficulties in communicating. In traditional Japanese hotels and regular (non-international) hostels, you most likely won't find English speakers. But even there, unsolvable situations rarely arise.
Finally, perhaps the most important criterion when choosing a hotel in this huge metropolis should be transport accessibility. In a number of cases, it is worth going for a more expensive, but more conveniently located accommodation option - this will ultimately lead to both cost savings and the fact that your stay in Tokyo will be more interesting and relaxing.
Concluding this short story, I would like to wish the readers good luck in choosing a hotel. I am sure that your choice will be the best!
Where to stay in luxury hotels
The Marunouchi area is considered the best place in the capital where you can find a large number of rich and luxurious hotels. The eponymous Marunouchi Hotel is located very close to the train station, where you can begin your journey of exploring the sights of Tokyo.

Hotel Aman
One of the best hotels in Tokyo, Aman, is located in the Nihonbashi area, which is located near Marunouchi. It has rightfully earned its reputation as Tokyo's premier historical site. You can sample Italian cuisine at the hotel's restaurant. In addition, the services include recreational activities such as a visit to the fish market with the hotel chef, or classes to study Japanese art.
Tourism in Tokyo
Despite its location in the Far East, Tokyo has very well developed transport. The city is easily accessible from both Europe and North America, with many direct flights available. Tokyo is quite safe and has one of the lowest crime rates in the world. There are two airports that connect Tokyo to the world. With airports just an hour or two away from the city itself, Narita International Airport is the main gateway for all foreign tourists visiting Japan. Intercontinental flights to other cities in Europe, America, Oceania and the Middle East also pass through Narita Airport. The Airport is also home to low cost airlines offering domestic and international flights such as Vanilla Airlines, Peach Airlines and Jetstar Japan.
For those who want to land closer to the city, an alternative option is Haneda International Airport in Ota. The airport is also convenient for those traveling on domestic flights with Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways.

Tokyo has a lot to offer its tourists, regardless of their age group and preferences. From museums, theme parks, shopping centers and restaurants, the city has it all. Various events and festivals are held every month.
How to make money on vacation?
Ritz-Carlton Hotel
In the Roppongi quarter, which is located in the entertainment part of the city, there is the Ritz-Carlton hotel. It occupies the top 9 floors of a 53-story building that also houses offices. The hotel is located on a hilly site, and therefore, from the windows of the room there is a stunning view of the city. In the building itself and the adjacent Tokyo Midtown complex, you will find good shops and markets.

This is the image that always comes to mind when thinking about Tokyo, the famous orderly crowds at the Shibuya scramble intersection are synonymous with Tokyo's global image and this area does not disappoint. The buzzing atmosphere, neon flashing billboards high in the sky and flowing rivers of people make this place feel like the center of the universe. This is usually the first place visitors head when they arrive in Japan. Not only is Shibuya a global icon, but it's also an area that's a lot of fun to explore.
After the obligatory selfie while taking over the intersection and down the pedestrian alleys, Tokyo begins to open up. The dazzlingly lit arcades are where the city's youth busily spend their free time on the crane machines, trying to win kawaii plushies, otherwise they will have their photos taken with their friends in the photo studio. Even if you're not into gaming, just wandering the floors of these temples of Japanese gaming culture is extremely interesting.
Many of Tokyo's top tourist attractions can be found near Shibuya too; the famous statue of Hachiko—the faithful dog who waited for his master to return home until his last day—still stands outside the station to honor him. Shibuya has many hotels, is a major transportation hub, and is on the all-important Yamanote Line, which puts you within easy reach of many of Tokyo's major sites.

The two restaurants located on the upper floors offer stunning views of Scramble Crossing. Getting anywhere is easy with six different train lines at Shibuya Station.

Akihabara

Akihabara is an Otaku's dream: walking the rainbow streets is like exploring the real life of a computer game. Blocks of buildings decorated in a spectrum of colors advertise the latest technology, while glass cabinets in front of stores display figurines from the pages of manga. Akihabara is an electric city; inside the towering buildings, floor after floor of specialized vendors offer their gadgets and games to discerning buyers—the higher the floor, the weirder the items for sale.
The Akihabara area is very fun and attracts a younger crowd who play computer games and comics; there are fewer restaurants to choose from compared to other areas, but the Akihabara metro is on the well-connected Yamanote Circle Line. Accommodation in the area can be reasonably priced, but expect to pay much more if you want a larger hotel room: Japanese hotels are notorious for being small.

Where to stay for families with children
Tokyo is very friendly to young children and has many great places for families. I would especially like to highlight the Tokyo Bay Hotel, which is located in the Tokyo Disneyland area. This is a suitable place for family walks and jogging. The Odaiba area also has the only beach in the capital, where you can relax from the constant hustle and bustle of the metropolis.

You can also experience the romantic atmosphere by visiting the five-star Mandarin Oriental. It is located in the historical district of Nihonbashio. This beautiful and stylish hotel occupies the top nine floors of an office building. From here you can enjoy panoramic views while watching the city come to life. Be sure to take advantage of the hotel's services, such as spa treatments, which are done very well here. Here you can also relax in the bath while watching the action from the window, and visit the many restaurants.
Asakusa

What it lacks in huge malls and upscale stores, Asakusa makes up for in tons of history. A slice of Tokyo's past, kitch smaller eateries and an atmosphere closer to Kyoto than Tokyo makes Asakusa a charming area to stay. Traditionally a red light district, today the area is centered around the very popular Senso-ji Temple, which attracts hordes of domestic and foreign tourists - it's easy to explore and a great place to base yourself in the Japanese metropolis.
Outside the temples, the Nakamise shopping street leading to them has been selling snacks and souvenirs to visitors for centuries and is a great place to photograph some of the quirky places around you. Because of its history as an entertainment district, many geisha can be seen walking the streets in Asakusa - although probably not exactly "real" geisha, the costumes along with the man-mechanical rickshaws add to the authentic atmosphere of the area. Asakusa is also an ideal place to buy kimonos, and reasonably priced vintage kimonos are sold around the temple.
As always, great food and drink is just around the corner in Japan, bakery Asakusa Kagetsudo has been serving delicious melons to hungry customers since 1945 and is not to be missed; Tempura is also a popular traditional food in the area, along with restaurants serving unagi (fried eel), which have a history dating back over a hundred years.
Tokyo Station Hotel
Next to Tokyo Central Station is the Tokyo Station Hotel, which was built in 1915. Today it is a popular five-star establishment. It features a distinctive red façade and luxurious European-style rooms with ceiling-to-ceiling windows and stunning color schemes. There is a good spa with relaxing treatments and several restaurants with delicious food.

Roppongi

Roppongi is a vibrant luxury mix of tall skyscrapers and new developments such as the famous Roppongi Hills, home to theatres, restaurants, art galleries, shops and a hotel. The thriving entertainment district, which attracts Tokyo's wealthy cosmopolitan crowd, is the most diverse in the city. The area does not have a traditional Japanese aesthetic as much of it was destroyed during World War II, but over time it has developed into a modern area and now attracts expats living in the city looking for a place to let their hair down at the many bars and clubs Roppongi.
If you're looking for a late night party or even the next day, Roppongi is the area for you. The nightlife here was well known after it became the seat of the US Army, when locally owned bars and brothels opened to cater to them. These days, the party in Roppongi often doesn't stop.
The hotels around the hotel are upscale, world famous names and have some pretty fantastic views of the city skyline, especially when it's lit up at night. Shopping is also popular in the area with designer goods on sale at Mori Tower, where you can also grab yourself some delicious food from the many stylish eateries.
