FEEDER FISHING FROM “A” TO “Z”

Which bait is suitable for which body of water?

The vital activity of fish in the fall slows down significantly, which means that completely different baits will attract fish. If a fisherman plans to buy them in a store, then he should give preference to special formulations designed for cold water. They have two important properties: they dissolve well at low temperatures and at the same time do not supersaturate water.

In the cold season, fish should not be given the same amount of complementary food as in the summer; this will negatively reduce the quality of fishing. This should be done within the first hour, in small doses with a sufficient period of time. Subsequently, complementary foods can be added only when it is obvious that the bite has worsened. Otherwise, there is a risk of overfeeding the fish, causing it to stop responding to the bait.

An important rule for autumn fishing is to consider whether the water in the reservoir is rough or calm. If the pond is calm, then you need to throw in actively dissolving bait, which will muddy the water and give the fisherman an advantage. If the water speed is quite high, then it is better to use a stationary bait, which will dissolve more slowly and will not immediately spread throughout the entire reservoir, giving a chance to attract fish exactly to the right place.

Bait for fishermen in autumn

Among homemade baits for fishing in the fall, mixtures of crackers with oatmeal with the addition of salt, sugar and sand or earth as a diluent are good. Instead of flavorings, it is better to add bloodworms or maggots. The consistency of bait for fishing in the fall is very important. It would seem that a ball of bait lowered to the bottom would somehow become saturated with water and fall apart. But that's not true. It has been noticed that in cold water it is better if the ball quickly disintegrates and “muddy”. When fishing in the current, it is advisable to use stationary feeders so that the bait is slowly washed out. The tactics of using bait during autumn fishing become extremely important. When the fish activity is low, the amount of bait and the frequency of throwing should be small. For fishing in the fall, half a kilogram of bait is enough, and it is better to add this amount in very small doses during the first hour of fishing. Additional feeding is advisable only after the bite has clearly subsided. If bloodworms are used as bait, then fishing will require no more than 100–200 g. As winter approaches, fishing turns into a hunt for every fish. In most cases, neither plant baits nor plant baits arouse the interest of large fish. Even bleak gradually stops reacting to crackers, and you can tease it only with “clean” bloodworms. In these conditions, the choice of bait becomes very important, since baits such as pearl barley, “babblehead” or canned corn cease to interest the fish. When traditional baits are not successful, you have to try fishing baits that few people use in the summer or spring. But first, about the tested baits.

Autumn bait recipes

An experienced fisherman can prepare bait for autumn fishing on his own. To do this, you need to mix oatmeal with breadcrumbs. Then add traditional salt and sugar. The resulting composition must be well diluted with earth or sand and kneaded well until smooth.

The final touch to this bait will be bloodworms. It will give it the desired aroma, which will make the fish react more actively. Also, maggot, which also has the necessary properties, is perfect for this purpose this season. You can mix both of these ingredients in one complementary food.

The already prepared bait should be rolled into tight balls. They will help you dose the amount of complementary foods and not overfeed the fish. It will be good if there is a sufficient amount of bloodworms in the composition - large fish react very well to it.

Among other things, you need to take into account that purely vegetable baits do not work during this period of the year. They will not improve the bite even if you have suitable bait.

Autumn bait

Autumn, when the water temperature gets closer and closer to zero, bait does not lose any of its importance. Many fishermen stop using it during this period, guided by the fact that summer types of bait can only ruin autumn fishing, but this is not true. Autumn is just such a time of year when it plays a special role, helping to at least somehow stir up and activate sedentary fish.

Another thing is what exactly the bait should be. If everything is more or less clear with autumn bait, then bait has its own characteristics. In addition to its composition, the effectiveness of its use will depend on how competently the fisherman can use it.

It is no secret that bodies of water can differ significantly from each other in their food supply. Suppose heavily silted lakes and ponds in the bottom layer contain a huge amount of bloodworms. In bodies of standing water there are many small crustaceans. Spring-type reservoirs, in turn, are rich in caddisflies and insect larvae. This is explained by the fact that bloodworms, which are common in most reservoirs, may not be suitable as bait.

In autumn, fish are inactive, so high-calorie complementary foods are the most optimal for them, especially when catching large fish. A mixture consisting of grated breadcrumbs with the addition of egg powder or milk powder has worked well here. This bait should be used in small quantities so as not to oversaturate the fish, which eat much less in the fall than in the summer.

But the exact amount can only be calculated experimentally. Here everything will depend primarily on the activity of the fish, which is influenced by weather factors. Sometimes it happens that even a few kilograms are not enough for one fishing trip, and sometimes even a few balls are more than enough for the whole day. Therefore, after the first feeding, try to evaluate the activity of the fish and, during the fishing process, decide how much supplementary food to add.

I’ll give you a few more universal bait recipes for autumn fishing. Recipe 1. For this we need 20 grams of bloodworms, 100 grams of breadcrumbs, the same amount of ground cake and powdered milk powder. These components are mixed, then a teaspoon of sugar and a few drops of garlic are added to them. The resulting bait is mixed with clay and rolled into balls.

Recipe 2. It contains small maggots, breadcrumbs and milk powder in the amount of 100 grams. To this mixture add a teaspoon of sugar, 50 grams of fried sunflower seeds, then add 1 gram of ground cumin seeds and also roll the bait into clay balls.

These baits will allow you to successfully fish throughout the fall. But I advise you not to delay preparing for winter. Sometimes, due to heavy snowfall, it can be extremely difficult to get to your favorite body of water. Therefore, I advise you to use snowshoes, which you can make yourself if you wish.

Tackle in September

There are many methods for catching bream in early autumn, reservoirs are still attractive with open water, and in most cases the weather is pleasant. Fishing is carried out both from the shore and from a boat, and everything can be successful:

  • float;
  • feeder;
  • Donka.

The gear is assembled using the standard method; then we will consider each in more detail.

Bream on a float

Catching bream on a float in September is quite successful, the main thing is to choose the right place and stock up on bait. The tackle is assembled from the following components:

  • you will need a rod blank of 4-5 meters in length, and use Bolognese rods from the shore and fly rods from a boat;
  • for fishing from the shoreline, the fishing rod is equipped with a reel, preferably a spinning reel with a spool size of up to 2500;
  • a fishing line is used as a base, the diameter must be at least 0.22 mm;
  • be sure to use a leash made of a monk of smaller diameter, the length should be up to 20 cm;
  • hooks are chosen directly for the bait; for plant varieties, the option with a short shank is suitable, and animals are better suited to products made of thin wire;
  • the float and sinkers for it are chosen carefully; if fishing is planned from the shore, it is better to take a heavier option; a fly rod will require blind equipment with lighter floats.

You need to choose a float purely individually; it should be clearly visible and it should fly a given distance without problems.

Feeder

Catching on a feeder during this period will bring more success, as experienced fishermen say. The tackle is assembled as standard:

  • form from 3 m long;
  • reel with spool from 2500 with good power characteristics;
  • It is better to take a cord as a base, it should be at least 100 m, and the thickness should be from 0.16 mm with 4 weaves;
  • use a capacious feeder, you will need enough feed, attach it through an anti-twist or tie it in front of the leashes;
  • leashes are knitted either from a cord with a slightly smaller diameter, or from a good quality monk.

The soft tip will help you see the bite; in addition, you can use a float for sagging.

Bait options

One of the best food for fish in the fall is bloodworms. Moreover, this is the most affordable option. But a bad bloodworm may not even attract fish. Therefore, try to choose only dark larvae. Yes, they are not at all attractive in appearance, but they hold up well on the tackle. I noticed that the dark bloodworm lives even longer and actively attracts fish. And this is very important if you are fishing at shallow depths.

    Interesting! If you come across a small green larva among the standard red bloodworms, you should not throw it away; I usually use it as food for roaches.

You can also use other types of bait.

  • Maggot. Perfect for autumn fishing. Firstly, maggot larvae are tenacious. Secondly, they do not have any unpleasant aroma. Thirdly, the fish will never resist a plump maggot. What color maggots are best for fishing? I can’t say for sure, you need to test everything yourself.
  • Caddisfly. Sometimes in reservoirs with clean running water it happens that neither maggots nor bloodworms attract the inhabitants. In these situations I simply use a caddis fly.

Using such simple but at the same time useful recommendations for fishing in the autumn in Sazanya Bay, you will definitely catch the desired trophy!
