Bombarda (sbirulino equipment). Correct installation of equipment and fishing techniques. Fishing

Bombarda (sbirulino rig) is a specialized float designed to complement spinning tackle. This device is used for casting fairly light baits using its own weight.

Small wobblers, silicone fish, spinners, artificial flies - all this can fly quite far if a bombard (Sbirulino rig) is used. Among other things, with the help of a bombard you can cast bait in any water horizon, from the surface of the reservoir to its bottom.

What are they?

Bombarda (sbirulino rigging) is divided into several main categories depending on buoyancy, as well as types of load. Thus, there are three types of buoyancy:

  • Floating. After being cast, it cannot drown in the water.
  • Drowning. After falling to the surface of the water, they immediately begin to sink to the bottom.
  • Slowly sinking. In this case, the bombarda (sbirulino rig) hangs in a certain state, which can be used to catch various types of fish.

Floating models are the most optimal if the bait needs to be cast close to the surface, while sinking devices are the most optimal for catching bottom fish.

Sbirulino float (bombard): installation of equipment and fishing techniques

Sbirulino or “bombard” is a float designed specifically for spinning fishing. It has its own weight, which allows you to throw a light bait, weighing a few grams, over a long distance and retrieve it at different depths, depending on the purpose of the float, as well as its type.

According to the type of buoyancy, such floats are divided into 3 types:

Depending on the type of float used, the bait can be placed at the surface of the water (floating), in the water column (medium buoyancy), or at the very bottom (sinking).

At the same time, floats can be loaded using various methods:

  • With built-in sinker.
  • With a cavity inside the float, which is filled with water, directly next to the reservoir.

Floats with a built-in sinker have specified characteristics, and a float with a cavity inside allows you to set the required characteristics, depending on the amount of water. From such a float you can make a floating, sinking or a float with medium buoyancy. As far as application technique is concerned, there are no differences.

As a rule, for long casts, rods with a length of 3 to 6 meters, having an appropriate action (hard) and a test of at least 40-50g are used.

The reel you choose is the most common, but inertia-free, with a fishing line capacity of 0.25 mm in diameter, about 100 m.

The fishing line is selected based on the fishing conditions. Considering the long-casting factor, it is better to stick to braided line. It will allow you to quickly respond to floats. But this absolutely does not mean that you cannot use monofilament fishing line.

The sbirulino float can have different sizes and weights. As a rule, they opt for a float weighing about 40g.

For this part of the tackle, it is better to use a piece of fluorocarbon, which will not alarm the fish so much. The length can vary between 1.5-3 meters. This is due to the fact that a large float can alarm the fish, so it will be better if it is located as far as possible from the bait.

Hooks and their size are selected depending on the size of the fish. They should fit freely into the fish's mouth and, naturally, be very sharp.

The use of swivels is mandatory, since light-weight baits can twist the line strongly. This type of equipment uses a triple swivel, which guarantees protection against twisting.

Loading

If we talk about loading, it also comes in several types:

  • Built-in sinker. In the vast majority of cases, fishing with a bombard (sbirulino rig) is characterized by the presence of a lead weight, while the weight of the float remains constant.
  • Internal cavity. Such models are gradually filled with water. The advantage of this kind of fishing with a bombard (sbirulino rig) is that the fisherman has the opportunity to independently regulate the load.

Features of fishing with a bombard

Content

It should be noted that the idea of a loaded float for throwing light baits has existed for quite a long time - it’s worth remembering water-filled floats, “balda” for catching asp (not to be confused with the winter bait of the same name) or modern match floats. However, Italian fishermen have created a more successful design - a heavy cigar-shaped float made of transparent or translucent plastic. Initially, bombard fishing was limited only to fishing for pond trout using dough, however, the scope of application quickly expanded. Nowadays, bombards are used to catch almost any fish in completely different conditions – from bleak to pike. Before answering the question: “How to fish with a bombard?”, let’s figure out what it can be like and under what conditions it is used.

Coil

In terms of the reel, there is a lot of advice from people who use the bombard. Not everyone knows how to fish with such a device, but experts say that it is imperative to use a spinning reel, the size of which ranges from 2500 to 3500. The spool must hold at least 100 m of 0.25 mm fishing line. Special attention is paid to proper adjustment of the friction brake, as this is quite important if a bombard is used. It is not reported how to fish with other reel options.

fishing line

In this case, monofilament or braided fishing line can be used, but you must take into account the fact that the thickness also changes depending on the type you choose. Thus, braided line should have a thickness of 0.15 to 0.17 mm, while monofilament should be 0.18-0.25 mm thick. The advantage of the “braid” is that it does not stretch, and therefore the fish bite remains noticeable even at a fairly long distance. Monoline can be used in the process of fishing at short distances. It is worth noting that monofilament helps in dampening the jerks of fish during the fishing process.

The advantages of fishing with a bombard

The main advantage of using a bombard is the ability to cast light and ultra-light baits over long distances using conventional gear. Bombarda allows you to fish with fly baits using a middle-class spinning rod, match or feeder rod.

Bombarda (sbirulino rig) is a specialized float designed to complement spinning tackle

Thanks to its streamlined shape, fishing with a bombard is possible in places that are quite inconvenient for using other long-range equipment or baits, for example, in shallow water overgrown with grass.

It is also important that the technique of fishing with sbirulino is quite simple to master, and installation of the gear is very simple.

Leash

You can use a wide variety of leashes depending on what kind of fish you are going to catch. The classic is the use of a certain piece of fluorocarbon fishing line, the thickness of which is from 0.12 to 0.2 mm, and the length is 1.5-2 m. When catching “toothless” fish in places where hooks are installed, it is also recommended to use a cord of approximately the same length, but its thickness should not exceed 0.12 mm. In the process of catching pike, the only possible option is a bombard, made with your own hands using a metal leash, the length of which ranges from 7 to 15 cm.

How is installation carried out?

There are many options for how the bombard (equipment) is installed. Installation of the classic type is carried out as follows:

  1. The reel with the main line wound is installed on the fishing rod.
  2. A float is placed over the main line, secured with a rubber shock absorber.
  3. Swivels are tied to the end of the fishing line.
  4. A leash is attached to the second eye of the swivel.
  5. A hook or bait is installed on the second end of the leash.

It is worth noting the fact that this version of the equipment provides for the location of the leash below the float, while some Sbirulino equipment provides for its installation at the end point of the fishing line, when the leash or several leashes at the same time are fixed above the float.

Fishing for bombarda sbirulino

Date: May 10, 2021 | 729

Among the various fishing methods and rigs, fishing with a bombard stands out clearly. A special float - bombarda, which is also known to many under the Western name - sbirulino, is a very original branch of spinning fishing. Fishing with bombarda, in any case, deserves attention.

An angler often wants to fish remote areas of a reservoir using small, light bait. Naturally, the low weight of the bait does not allow long casting. But there is a way out - use the bombard. The introduction of sbirulino into the tackle allows you to make very long casts, thanks to the considerable weight, inertia and streamlined shape of the bombard. The bombarda flies into the distance like a projectile, carrying with it a leash on which one or more light baits are placed.

Calling sbirulino a float is not entirely correct. Yes, there are floating bombards, but there are also neutral, slowly sinking, sinking ones. Accordingly, if they want to fish near the surface, they use a floating bombard; if slightly below the surface and in the middle layer, use sbirulino with neutral buoyancy, or slowly sinking; if you need to fish in the bottom layer, use sinking bombards.

Equipment with sbirulino float

The bombard can be mounted in different ways. The first option is to fasten a bombard to the main fishing line of the spinning rod, and behind it is attached a fairly long fluorocarbon leash (1-2.5 m long). At the end of the leash there is a fly, a barb, a streamer, a small spinner, a hook with a small silicone bait, or something like that. It is possible to use a leash not only with one bait, but also a garland with 2-4 baits.

The second option is to attach a leash made of thinner fishing line to the main line. A bombard is placed at the end of the leash, and 2-3 small leashes with flies or other baits are placed on the leash.

As can be seen from the diagrams, the bombard is attached to the tackle through a triple swivel. This is important because The bombard rotates freely and can fairly twist the tackle. So, even one swivel will not be enough - it is better to use a triple one.

Lures for fishing with a bombard

In combination with sbirulino, the following types of baits are used: flies, streamers, small spinners, small spinners, small wobblers, small silicone baits, edibles. To operate a bombard, use a fairly long rod, about 3-3.5 m, because The equipment used is very non-compact and it is not realistic to cast it with a short spinning rod and it is inconvenient to operate. The reel used is inertialess, size 2000-4000. Line or cord is at the discretion of the fisherman. You can also use monofilament. In this style of fishing, the use of braided lines is not critical, as is the case in jig fishing and twitching.

What can you catch with a bombard rig?

A very wide range of fish, including peaceful ones, are caught with the bombard. At the surface they catch asp, chub, ide, rudd, and salmon. In different layers of water you can catch perch, pike, as well as peaceful fish - crucian carp, carp, bream, etc.

So, if you need to cast miniature ultralight baits far, then keep in mind the installation with sbirulino.

Most common baits

Regardless of which float is used, the bombard provides the possibility of using both natural and artificial baits. Among the variety of artificial products, the most optimal would be to use the following devices:

  • spinners;
  • small silicone fish;
  • small wobblers;
  • foam balls.

Fishing for bombard can also be done using the following natural baits:

  • larvae;
  • worms;
  • leeches;
  • insects;
  • fry and live bait.

A little bit of history

The history of this type of fishing began prosaically. In order to cast catchable bait on trout, which are distinguished by their low weight, as far as possible and to the required depth, one savvy Italian used heavy cigar-shaped floats. Having tested the materials, I developed floats in different depth classes and named them “Sbirulino” .
You can also often hear another name for this float - “Bombard”, which probably appeared due to the possibility of “bombing” lightweight nozzles. The same devices existed in other countries, for example, the “Tyrolean stick”, but this time they got down to business thoroughly and brought bombard fishing to the ideal. The testing ground was artificial reservoirs. And what happened?

  1. The casting distance has increased significantly . For example, trout, especially in the summer, are often at a distance beyond the reach of casting with a spinning rod equipped with a light twister or “spinner.” There is an excellent opportunity to throw any light and miniature bait, including a fly for fly fishing at a distance of more than 100 meters.
  2. By changing floats with different speeds of penetration or neutral buoyancy at certain depths, it became possible to quickly select the layer where the fish was currently located. Moreover, the wiring was absolutely not damaged - the float clearly held the level and the bait was very easy to “play” at extremely low speeds. To the horror of reservoir owners, fishermen's catches began to increase significantly!
  3. It turned out that cautious fish , which react painfully to an extra millimeter of the diameter of the leash, are absolutely indifferent to sbirulino! In addition, it was noticed that the movements of the float activated the hunting instinct of the fish, and the trout greedily attacked the fly or twister offered on a leash. Even now it is not clear what prompts the fish to this action, competition in food or the trout’s simple curiosity for small moving objects.

Well, off we go... From the cozy and warm waters of Italy, the float switched to asp fishing and even reached the sea waters of the Baltic. Today its appearance can be seen on chub, salmon and trout reservoirs, on rivers that are in the hands of professionals fishing for pike perch and pike. And, seeing a good prospect, the industry began to work. A series of spinning rods specially designed for casting these floats began to appear in stores, which were popularly known as “sbirulinka”.

How to make such a float?

Situations often occur when modern fishermen do not trust all kinds of stores, as a result of which they make bombards for asp or any other fish themselves. There are several options for making floats:

  • Any large float is used as the basis for sbirulino, which is loaded using specialized lead pellets or a separate sinker.
  • The bombard is made from a small piece of foam plastic using sandpaper and a knife. To prevent the fish from suspecting a trick during the fishing process, it is best to paint the product with a special dark waterproof marker.
  • Many fishermen make quite interesting floats from medical disposable syringes. To do this, you first need to make a small hole in which the fishing line will be fixed, and then slightly refine the appearance. The main load in the form of a cavity with water becomes a fairly effective fishing device.

How to catch?

In the vast majority of cases, sbirulino is usually used to catch various surface fish. Thus, if asp fishing is carried out, then the bombard used should have the highest possible flight characteristics. In this case, it is extremely important to be able to throw the bait directly into the “cauldron”, where the asp is engaged in stunning small juveniles. The use of a wobbler or a spinner, which will go directly to the surface of the water, will allow the fisherman to wait until the sheresper makes a blow.

If you are fishing for quite peaceful fish, then in this case it will be extremely effective to use bait at the fishing site. Even all kinds of mud from clay and sand, which is, in principle, inedible, can attract a fairly large number of white fish, after which it will be possible to start fishing.

It is worth noting several of the most common options for how bombard wiring is carried out:

  • Slow and steady wiring. This option is used most often and involves placing the main work on the coil.
  • Wiring with stops. This type of wiring involves performing it with the tip of the rod. Initially, the equipment is tightened approximately 2-3 meters with the rod, after which the tip of the rod must be returned to its original position. The slack in the fishing line instantly disappears by rewinding the reel.
  • Slow wiring. In this case, it will be possible, if necessary, to supplement the wiring with small twitches of the rod tip. The frequency and amplitude of the twitching performed depends directly on the characteristics of the reservoir in which this procedure is carried out.

The bite is determined by the behavior of the float you use, as well as the position of the rod tip. If there are sharp hooks, then in most cases the fish will be hooked on their own.

What are the advantages of such fishing?

For many fishermen, the use of bombard fishing technology is extremely simple to master, but at the same time a very catchy and effective method. Quite often it is used in modern fishing in order to catch a wide variety of fish, and the undeniable advantage of this method is that even when using the most standard gear, you can send an extremely light bait over a serious distance. It is worth noting that the use of this technology also works quite well in fly fishing.

In appearance, the bombards themselves are practically indistinguishable from each other, but in fact there are several types of them, discussed above. This classification is provided so that the bombard can be used for fishing in any water layer.

If we talk about specific fish, the use of a floating bombard is most often used in the process of catching chub, while fast-sinking ones are used for catching perch. The slow-sinking bombard is more often used in the process of fishing for various predators, and this is especially true for pike. Like a standard jig, if necessary, a bombard can be used to fish along the deepest horizons of a reservoir or to tap on the bottom.
