Reservoirs of the Belgorod region

Map of reservoirs in the Belgorod region
More than 500 rivers and streams flow through the region. Most belong to small rivers with a length of 10 to 100 km. 4 rivers are more than 100 km long: Oskol (220), Vorskla (115), Seversky Donets (110) and Tikhaya Sosna (105). There are more than 1000 ponds and reservoirs on the rivers.

There are few swamps in the area. They are usually distributed in low areas of floodplains, at the foot of slopes, and in places where springs emerge. Hunting lands occupy 2.2 million hectares in the region - 81.5% of the region's territory.

To regulate local surface water flow in the region, reservoirs were created:

  • Korochanskoye Reservoir
  • Morkvinskoye Reservoir
  • Soldatskoye Reservoir
  • Stary Oskol Reservoir

Lakes of the Belgorod region

The Belgorod region is poor in lakes. They are mainly located on floodplain terraces and most of them are oxbow lakes filled with water during floods. In summer, their level gradually decreases, and autumn rains cause a slight rise.

Fishing in the Belgorod region – Review of reservoirs

There are many wonderful reservoirs in the Belogorodskaya region. Starting from the village of Pena and Alekseevka and ending, of course, with Belgorod and the village of Cherkasskoye. Sea of fish. Let's take a closer look and figure out where, what, when... Here we will share with you a catalog of reservoirs and reports on fishing on them. In the region there is a small river Valuyka, ponds (paid, free) and of course the Northern Donets - a river in which you can chase both predators and simple white fish. Let's start the review with a pond in the village of Kuzkino.

Features of fishing in the region

Belgorod

has long been famous for its attractions, but the most important thing is nature, wonderful climate, clean reservoirs, ponds, rivers and lakes. The Belgorod reservoirs are home to a wide variety of fish: bream, pike perch, roach, pike, perch, silver carp, rudd and others. In the region there are both paid and free reservoirs where you can, regardless of the choice of fishing location, bait and gear, catch large and weighty fish, which will certainly become a reason for pride.

Fishing on the Seversky Donets

Fishing on the Seversky Donets
One of the most beloved rivers among local fishermen in the Belgorod region is the Seversky Donets. This river is especially famous for fishing in the section from Belgorod to the border with Ukraine. Approaching the border, the Seversky Donets is already a serious and fairly wide river with a moderate current. Currently, there are many different fish in the river: bream, pike, roach, chub, silver carp, rudd, ide, crucian carp, perch, pike perch. Occasionally, local fishermen catch the king of the depths – catfish. Not only spinning and float fishing, but also feeder fishing is popular on the Seversky Donets. With a feeder, Belgorod fishermen most often hunt for bream and crucian carp.

The Lower Seversky Donets, despite its rather hard bottom and decent current, can safely be called a bream-crucian pond. The density of bream and crucian carp there is quite decent. Moreover, these fish are not quiet pond fish, but active fighters who behave briskly on the tackle. The high concentration of fish makes the bite more reliable and consistent than in areas upstream. This is well known to many local fishermen, of whom there are quite a few on the banks of the river. There is a lot of varied vegetation on both banks of the river. The main feature is that the fishing takes place close to (or even among) the main friends of the cramp fish. The river is very heavily loaded. And this is facilitated primarily by the wooded banks, which every flood pay tribute to the river in the form of trees fallen into the water. But it is precisely in such rubble that many predators stand. It’s difficult to catch them, but if you use spinning lures, you have a chance to catch a trophy pike perch or pike. But anglers who don’t like to fish in such conditions will have a hard time. Of course, there are also relatively clean runs on the river where you can organize a wide variety of fishing. But to do this, you need to get to know the area better and calculate the location of the nearest cramps, so as not to leave your entire arsenal of baits in the river.

Another important feature of the Seversky Donets is the huge presence of small fish, primarily roach. This forces us to adjust both fishing methods and bait. Summer and early autumn are great times for float fishing, but spring should not be ignored either. At the beginning of May, the bite of roach and crucian carp is especially intense. The average size of roach is 100-150 grams. In the spring there is a very good bite of this fish in the area of the village of Novaya Tavolzhanka. This is where roaches weighing 250-300 grams are regularly found. Mixed with it are roach, white bream and silver bream. They catch whitefish with bloodworms and worms, but the main bait is maggots, which the local fish simply adore.

Pike and pike perch begin to be caught in April. According to observations of local fishermen, the number of pike has increased significantly recently. Specimens weighing 2-3 kg are not uncommon in catches. Catches of fairly large fish weighing 5-7 kg are regularly recorded. Such individuals prefer live bait to many artificial baits.

Perch in the spring on the Seversky Donets is weak, but by May it wakes up and the perch feeding begins. It is successfully caught not only with spinning rods, but also with miniature perch mugs with small live bait - verkhovka. Catfish are also commonly caught using live bait. Favorite live bait is roach or crucian carp weighing 200-300 grams, or a bunch of worms. In the heat of summer, the main catch for catfish occurs below the village of Volkovo and not in the pits, but in the reaches where this fish goes to fatten. Specimens up to 10 kg are often caught.

Fishing on Oskol

This river in the region is considered the most beautiful. There are steep banks with particular natural beauty. The fish composition is the same as in the Donets, since the river is its tributary. Asp are often caught, but carp bite extremely rarely. Until the coldest autumn, crucian carp are active, and systematic thaws allow the fish to peck from the ice.

If you are lucky enough to catch a carp, its size will amaze you, because the weight of one specimen reaches 7 kg.

Local fishermen have gotten used to using various tackles and lures, as they say: whoever feeds them, catches them. Among the predatory fish, pike and perch are often found.

Fishing on the Belgorod Reservoir

This reservoir is very popular among the urban population. From Belgorod it takes only 5 minutes to get there. It is located almost in the urban area. And in winter, fishing on the Belgorod reservoir is very good. There are many fishermen here at any time of the year.

During the daytime, quite large silver bream, roach and perch are caught in the reservoir. You can catch a fairly large bream. And pike and pike-perch are caught in fairly large quantities on the girder here. For bream fishing, a good place on the reservoir is considered to be a place near the village of Ivanovka. It is best to fish for pike perch between the Arcadia camp site and Pulyaevsky Bay.

Winter fishing can also be quite successful at the reservoir. Local fishermen, as a rule, put up small houses made of foam plastic, and inside they install a gas burner, a battery-powered light, and drill up to 5 holes. In such a house, even in severe frost, the temperature is about 3 degrees Celsius. During this period you can catch good bream. However, in order to attract the attention of the intended prey, it will be important to pre-feed the place.

Local experienced fishermen consider bloodworms to be the best complementary food, and use a bunch of bloodworms as bait. The gear they always have at hand is: a 0.2 millimeter fishing line, a sinker weighing up to 5 grams, and a Soviet-made hook No. 6. Such a “strong” equipment is used in case a bream weighing more than 1.5 kg is caught on a hook. You should also take a drill with an increased diameter, rather than a standard one, in order to ensure better passage of fish through the hole.

Although the Belgorod region is not rich in water resources, you can still find wonderful and picturesque places for recreation and fishing. Not a single fisherman will remain indifferent to these places and will certainly want to experience the full range of sensations from fishing in local reservoirs again.

Map of fishing spots

The most famous and promising body of water in the Belgorod region is the Seversky Donets. Despite the fact that the river is deep and wide, the current is characterized by weakness and calmness. Even though factories operate near the river, the fish feel good and grow to a decent size. Fishing on the Seversky Donets will delight you with perch, crucian carp, roach, silver carp and pike. Many people come here to hunt river catfish, a coveted trophy for experienced fishermen.

Various equipment can be used on the river. Crucian carp and bream bite well on feeder gear, but fishing from a boat is even better. In the local reservoir, both bottom and float equipment are used. There are strong currents in some areas, so take stable gear.

Fishing from the shore is not always convenient; you will have to look for a suitable area. Many banks are overgrown with grass and littered with snags. It is better not to fish in unverified places; carefully study the map of fishing spots. There is one advantage - a large number of predatory fish swim on the bottom with snags.

The incredibly beautiful river in the region is Oskol. This is a tributary of the Seversky Donets, which delights locals and visitors with its picturesque landscapes. The fish here is the same as in the Donets. Asp are especially common, but carp are rare. Winter fishing is often organized on Oskol. Carp can be caught, but difficult due to their size, as 7kg fish are common here.

Pike and perch bite well on live bait. The map also shows excellent places for catching predatory fish.

Paid fishing in the Belgorod region

Of course, the best fishing is when the fishing is good and there is a guarantee that you will not be left without a catch. Today, paid fishing is common in most regions of Russia.

Paid fishing in the Belgorod region is carried out in specialized stocked ponds, of which there are enough in the Belgorod region. It is quite understandable that many fishermen who choose paid fishing want to remain with a guaranteed catch and get real trophies. Moreover, at many fishing bases and many specialized farms that have their own ponds, you can rent gear and a boat and spend the night comfortably.

One of the best places for paid fishing in the Belgorod region is a large pond located between the villages of Novorechie and Larisovka in the Chernyansky district of the Belgorod region. The length of the pond is more than 2 km, and its area is about 55 hectares.

The pond is home to carp, carp, silver carp, tench, grass carp, perch, pike perch, and roach. The pond is stocked with fish every year, and the fish are constantly fed. On the pond there is always the opportunity to catch a real trophy specimen and return home with a good catch.
