Pike spoons differ in their shapes and colors from other similar baits. Initially knowing the nuances of choice, the fisherman will be able to determine, even purely visually, a toothy tool that is relatively suitable for fishing. When making a choice, first of all, you need to focus on the shape of the spinner.

Important! The most catchy spoons for pike are oval or, if you compare them with an object, then the shape is similar to the scoop of a spoon.

The width in the middle part of the oval relates to its total length in a ratio of no less than one to three. The second equally important selection criterion is size. In pike hunting, they do not stand on ceremony with this parameter; they select large forms with a width of 3–4 centimeters and, accordingly, a length of at least nine. The toothy one does not like the surfaces of spinners in the form of a wave, with different bending amplitudes. The preferred shape is a spoon with a smooth one-sided concavity, similar to the aforementioned spoon.

The colors that attract pike are matte silver and copper. In clear waters, the pure black color has proven itself well. In muddy spring waters, acidic colors of the yellow-green spectrum are applicable. The presence on the body of the instrument of bright attack points or a distinct eye, mostly in red or black tones, sometimes also stimulates biting. Choosing a spinning rod for pike fishing

The length of the rod depends on the place and method of fishing: if the fisherman expects to be only on the shore (for example, a lake), then this figure should be at least 2.7-3.3 m, depending on the size of the reservoir, which will allow long casts. When fishing from a floating device, there is no such need, so the recommended rod length is 2.1-2.4 m.
The recommended rod test should be 5-25 g, since this indicator provides the angler with some freedom when choosing bait. If the need arises, the spoon can be replaced with a wobbler or jig bait.
The action should be fast, this will reduce the casting distance slightly, but the rod will have increased sensitivity. This requirement is due to the need for quick response when fishing for pike.
When choosing a reel, the fisherman has sufficient freedom, the main thing is that it meets the following criteria: good traction, high sensitivity and reliable fastening of the line handle, which allows minimizing the risk of breaks even when making the most rapid casts. Inertia-free models, the size of which is 2000-3000, are well suited.
The fishing line is selected depending on the fishing conditions and other features, but for beginner fishermen, a braided cord with a diameter of about 0.12-0.18 mm is best suited, since it has a low degree of elongation and high strength compared to the monofilament version. More experienced fishermen can use regular fishing line with a diameter of 0.25-0.3 mm. You can also try to use a rope, but we strongly advise against it because it is very likely to break.
A leash is a mandatory element of equipment if the intended prey is pike. Its presence can reduce the number of bites, but will not reduce the likelihood of breaks, since this predator can bite even the most reliable working line.

Advantages of oscillators

Oscillating spoons have a number of significant advantages over all other artificial baits, which are worth mentioning so that the pike fisher can confidently keep a certain number of specimens of this kind of bait in his arsenal. Let's start with the fact that this is a relatively cheap fishing tool, which is not so annoying to lose compared to a wobbler that is overpriced.

In addition, the wiring technique does not require complex techniques and skills. After all, the design features of the bait give it independent playing qualities, and even with the usual winding of the cord with a reel, the catching projectile produces parameters that do not require additional animation. The ability of a spinner to vibrate with different amplitudes attracts fish not only visually, but also by the propagation of different frequency sound and vibration waves in the water. The first method involves processing it to match the shape of a spoon. To do this, the handle of the cutlery is cut off, and the scoop itself is modified by drilling holes in opposite parts of the oblong shape. One hole will serve for mounting a tee, and the second for attaching the homemade product through a swivel to the main cord of the tackle. Making spinners from castings is a more complex process, requiring the fisherman to make a casting mold from plaster.
