In the Tula region, the latest restrictions, which were previously introduced against the backdrop of the active spread of the COVID-19 virus, were lifted on June sixteenth. At this time, bars and restaurants began to function again, beaches and official recreation areas opened.
This is really great, because the sun, air and water are man's best friends in the summer. They are friends of the immune system and enemies of coronavirus infection. Residents of the Tula region did not bother too much with prohibitions; for example, Russia Day turned out to be hot, so people went swimming. In July 2021, it is difficult to find a free place on the beaches, because everything is busy with people, but there is one wonderful place where there are not many people, but you get an incredible view and emotions.
In the next episode of his program, the famous journalist Yuri Dud reminded Russians about a wonderful place called Konduki, a village in the Tula region. Most of all Yuri's attention was attracted by Blue Lake, which we will talk about in this material.
Where did the Blue Lakes come from in the Tula region?
In the 60s of the last century, brown coal was actively mined in the vicinity of Tula. The useful rock in this area lies quite close to the surface layers of the soil. For this reason, coal was mined in many places by open-pit mining. Already in the 1980s, the feasibility of mineral extraction raised a lot of questions. The coal itself was found to be of insufficient quality, while production costs were rising. Gradually, mines and quarries began to close. As a reminder of the times of mining in the Tula region, there are many mining towns and villages, the surroundings of which are decorated with high mountains (heap waste heaps) and deep lakes - flooded quarries.
One of the most interesting and colorful places, characterized by a landscape atypical for the middle zone, is the village of Konduki. Blue lakes are a network of flooded quarries, the water in which pleases with all shades of azure and turquoise.
Free fishing spots in the Tula region
Oka River. Fishing in Tula starts from the "heart of central Russia", as the Oka is sometimes called . Experienced fishermen advise choosing places away from the locks, because fluctuations in water levels force the fish to go deeper. The “authenticity” of the place is also important, that is, many people like quiet fishing, where there are few people.
For example, the mouth of the Vashana River (it flows into the Oka River near the city of Aleksin) is just such a little-promoted place. And you can catch dace, perch, roach, ide, asp, bleak, gudgeon, ruff, and chub there. The bait is steamed cereals, corn and peas. It is better to take chub for beetles and dragonflies. For pike, spinners and live bait are useful.
Upa River. The second most popular river is large and quite maneuverable, with many turns. And it is rich not only in fish. In the upper areas you can find crayfish, because the water there is clear. Further, factory areas make their “contribution” to the environment. But even near Tula you can find a place for a quiet holiday. There you can find catfish, ruffe, perch, burbot, gudgeon, pike, and pike perch.
Sturgeon River . It is famous for its abundance of fish, especially roach and pike. We need to find a place away from holiday homes and tourist centers. There are fewer contenders there, the fish show a greater appetite. There are many rocky ledges, holes and rifts on the river - fish are sure to bite near such areas.
Nepryadva River . It is impossible not to mention this river, although it is not the longest. After all, it was exactly where it flows into the Don that the famous Battle of Kulikovo took place. Although some historians believe that the place of the battle was not the mouth of the river, but the source. As if there were open spaces there that were more suitable for battle and for an ambush on Khan Mamai.
But this fact has not yet been proven, and Nepryadva in any case appears as a landmark of the historical massacre. In the area of the village of Monastyrshchino there are a couple of pools, which the locals gave the name “fish pools”. There are a lot of chub, perch, ruff, and submouth there. There is also pike. They are caught “in the wire”, using wheat and pearl barley.
Beautiful Sword River . Already in the name of the water artery there is a mystery. According to legend, a noble military sword was drowned there. And someone attributes the origin of the term to Metropolitan Pimen, who, 9 years after the Battle of Kulikovo, named the river Mecha in memory of the great battles. And later the well-deserved epithet “beautiful” was added.
Some insist on the origin of the word from the Finno-Ugric “mets”, which can be translated as “forest”. Indeed, the places there are forested and very beautiful. And the river itself is fast and winding, as if rushing back and forth. Maybe this is where the secret of its name lies? Be that as it may, many find their fishing spots there in the Tula region .
The current is quite deep, because the river is fed by springs. There are especially many of them near Yudinka. And near the village of Kozier you can see a pile of stones with a 20-ton monolith, which is believed to be up to 70 million years old.
It's called the Horse-Stone. In winter, bream, silver bream, roach, and pike are more common. Immediately after the ice melts, active biting is observed. But spawning lasts from the end of April until June 10, so fishing is prohibited there.
Novomoskovsky district . It is best to talk about reservoirs and ponds in the Tula region using the example of Novomoskovsk. The city itself is located between the Don and Shat rivers, southeast of Tula. On the territory of the urban district there are 2 large reservoirs - Shatskoye and Pronskoye, as well as Lyubovskoye - a cooling reservoir for the Novomoskovskaya State District Power Plant.
But fishing in Novomoskovsk, Tula region, is not limited to the above-mentioned reservoirs. There are also Ivanovo ponds, the Kolkhozny reservoir 1-4 near the village of Gremyachevo), Spasskaya backwater. And, of course, we must not forget that the Don Father himself originates in the Novomoskovsk region, from the Urvanka stream.
Pron Pond . One of the best free ponds. Located in the Kimovsky district. It cannot boast of huge size, but is famous for its excellent nature and good fishing. From there you can take crucian carp, carp, bleak, ruff and pike. Here you will also be able to fish on the reservoir of the Tula region , taking into account the purpose of the reservoir.
Zaoksky district . Extreme sports lovers who are devoted to their hobby outside of the season will definitely enjoy winter fishing in the Tula region , in the Zaoksky district. There are many promising ponds there - Nechaevskoye, Lesnovka, Dobraya Nadezhda peasant farm, Ushakovsky, and a pay area in the Medvezhiy Ugol complex. There, to the standard assortment - crucian carp, grass carp, crappies, silver carp, pike - sturgeon, catfish and trout are added. But, of course, taking into account the season.

What awaits the traveler who decides to look at the Blue Lakes of the Tula region with his own eyes for the first time? The local landscape simultaneously resembles the surface of another, unknown planet, both Altai and Karelia: sandy hills and real mountains, lakes of all sizes and shapes, as well as fields and green forests. It is worth noting that we are talking about a fairly vast territory.
Blue lakes (Tula region, Konduki) are not 2-3 reservoirs, but a whole network of flooded quarries. At the height of the warm season, many vacationers with children from all over the central region of the Russian Federation come to the unofficial recreation area. They swim in ponds and sunbathe on sandy beaches. Many tourists prefer to spend the whole weekend in Kondukki, setting up tent camps. You can pick mushrooms and berries in the surrounding forests and fields. The village of Konduki, Blue Lakes is a great place for a family holiday.
Rest with tents near the Romantsevskie Mountains
During the season, entire tent cities are set up in the Konduki quarries. Camping is quite popular here; people set up tents, cook over a fire, and wash dishes right in the pond. In places where there are large concentrations of tents, it is better not to stop to rest. Noisy companies will cause insomnia during your vacation. It is best to leave the car where you can get to, and go on foot with a tent to wilder places, of which there are many in the quarries of the Romantsevsky Mountains. There you can sleep and enjoy the sounds of nature, as well as cleanliness without mountains of garbage around.
It is ideal to go to the Ushakovo quarries in the Tula region on weekdays; on weekends there are more people here.
Myths and facts
The quarries in the vicinity of the village of Konduki are not an officially recognized recreation area. This place has gained incredible popularity in recent years solely due to its unusual nature. At the same time, the administration of the Tula region is in no hurry to improve the beaches and check their sanitary and hygienic condition. Good to know if you are going to visit Konduki for the first time: Blue lakes are not officially intended for swimming. Moreover, the unusual color of the water in these reservoirs is probably explained by the special chemical composition of the liquid. Horror stories about substances and impurities harmful to human health contained in the water of the Blue Lakes are quite common.
Do not rush to get upset; when viewed without special equipment, local bodies of water do not evoke negative emotions. The local water is odorless and appears clear or bluish-green. Please remember to use caution when swimming in any quarry. The bottom of such reservoirs is rarely smooth; more often it retains traces of excavator buckets that once removed the soil here. Do not swim far from the shore if you do not feel confident enough in the water!
Information for an independent visit to the Blue Lakes in Kondukki
There is no infrastructure around the abandoned quarries; the nearest village is called Konduki. People come here mainly to relax in nature. There are numerous birch groves around the lakes. In the summer of 2021, information appeared that a safari park and an observation deck and parking lots would be built on the territory. But for now these are only plans for an uncertain future.
A large hill-mountain stands out on the territory; now there is an inscription “Konduki” on it. Near the hill there is the largest lake; it is in this place that the main concentration of tourists occurs. If you drive a little further, you can find smaller bodies of water with fewer people on the shore.

When is the best time to come
The main pilgrimage to Konduki is observed in the summer, during the warm season, when numerous tourists come here with tents and stop along the banks of local reservoirs. Many people come here to sunbathe and swim. It gets especially crowded on weekends.
During the rest of the year, you can come to Konduki for one-day walks, photography or video shooting of “Martian” landscapes. Late autumn and early spring are especially suitable for this, when very few tourists come, especially in the morning.
Whatever time of year you decide to come here, you must choose dry weather, otherwise you will only be able to drive from the village of Konduki to the lakes and hills by SUV. In dry weather this is possible on almost any car.

How to get to Blue Lakes?
The unofficial recreation area does not have an exact address; you should focus on the village of Konduki (Uzlovsky district). Blue lakes in the Tula region are located at some distance from large populated areas. You can only get to them by private car. The most convenient way is to use the navigator, exact coordinates: 53°51'00"; 38°21'00". If the destination of your trip is the village of Konduki, Blue Lakes, how to get there from Moscow? From the capital you need to follow the M4 highway, then turn onto the E-115 highway (in the area of the city of Bogoroditsk). The next turn according to the sign is towards Konduki, after which you need to go straight. After passing a small, semi-abandoned village, you will come to a dirt road. In the fields it has many turns and exits; in this place it is advisable to turn on the navigator.
Reviews about the Romantsevsky Mountains
In stories and photo albums dedicated to the Romantsevsky Mountains, tourists note that this is a beautiful and quiet place away from civilization, where you can rest your soul. One of the unpleasant moments is the presence of garbage after some vacationers. Among the disadvantages is the long journey. It takes about 3.5 hours to get from Moscow. The dirt road is dusty and can only be reached in dry weather or by off-road vehicles.
Lovers of beautiful views and the most active travelers climb on foot to the highest mountain, from which a very beautiful landscape opens. You will have to carefully choose a place for swimming. The pond you can drive to is not as clean as the others. In other lakes the water is clean and suitable for swimming.
This is an excellent place for photo shoots, camping, and swimming, which is still little known and therefore not crowded. The best option to go here is to take a tent, load it into your car, and spend several days on the shore. The most beautiful views open up at sunset, and at dawn you get great photos, and there is fog over the water. For your trip, you should choose sunny weather so that you can easily get to the place by car and enjoy the beauty of the mountains and water. For walking around the area, it is better to choose closed shoes.

Reviews from tourists
Blue Lakes are a favorite vacation spot for many residents of the Tula and Moscow regions. Many tourists praise this place for its peace and tranquility. Even at the height of the summer season, when many vacationers come, you can always find a free piece of the beach if you wish. Photographers and artists really like flooded quarries; the local nature inspires and gives a lot of positive emotions. Believe me, the descriptions and photos of these places do not fully convey their real beauty. Be sure to come and relax in person at Blue Lakes. Tula region, Konduki is a place whose name should be remembered by everyone who wants to enjoy the unusual landscapes in person!
Velesov forest
This beach holiday area is located in the village of Borshchevka, in the Station District.
How to get there: Getting here by public transport is not very convenient. You need to take the Tula-Aleshnya bus and then walk about four kilometers. Not everyone can take this route.
We recommend that drivers enter the following coordinates into the navigator: 54.238357494655, 37.178701593811
In addition to the distance of the location, one of the disadvantages of Velesov Forest is the paid entrance to the territory. True, the price includes not only entrance, but also an umbrella with a sun lounger, a parking space for a car, and actually swimming on the beach.
Advantages: on the territory there is a locker room, a dry closet, and a mini-football court. Possibility of renting houses, including daily rent, or staying in a tent.
