Top 10: the most popular manga of all time

Leveling Up Alone

This manhwa (Korean comic) is based on the web novel series of the same name by Jugon. A great choice for those who enjoy zero-to-hero stories, weak protagonists find themselves empowered with each quest they complete. The characters are simple, their goals and motives are clear, and the troubles they get into are very interesting. What kind of boss do you think will be here?

Golgo 13

Manga by Takao Saito has been published in Big Comic magazine since January 1969. This work in Japan is considered the longest manga in history.

Almost nothing is known about the hero Golgo 13 His signature sign is a skeleton wearing a crown of thorns.

The nickname “Golgo” is a reference to Golgotha, the very one on which, according to biblical texts, Jesus Christ was crucified.

Vast Ocean

Do you like sports anime and manga? Then you'll like "Ocean" too. It's sort of a sports manga series, but it's all about swimming. Only this is not some kind of “Free Style”, this is a completely different thing. And the creators did a great job of making the swimming look really good in black and white.

One Piece. Big jackpot

Having just celebrated its 1000th chapter, this sprawling adventure saga of super-powered pirates is starting to make The Lord of the Rings look like See Spot Run in terms of scale and length.

It seems fair that One Piece beat out the super popular Demon Slayer and has stood the test of time .

And Nami's victory means that One Piece has completely won the competition, managing to get three places in the top ten "buffers"! This is simply incredible.

One Piece, of course, is one of the favorite anime of all time, which unfortunately has the awkward element of many of its female characters being incredibly (and unrealistically) well-endowed by nature. Now some dissatisfied people have begun to claim that Snatch has become sexist due to the excessively protruding parts of women's bodies.

Whenever Snatch author Eiichiro Oda is asked why he draws women this way, he usually answers something like, “Because I like it.”

Top 10 (2017). Anime characters with huge "buffs" that changed the lives of otakus forever. 16+

Based on online comments, the most glaring omissions from this list were extremely popular titles like Death Note, Akira, Baki The Grappler, and Gantz. While they all held the titles of "boundary-pushing" and "influential," that may not always equate to being loved by people.

Seriously, 150,000 citizens voted!

Fullmetal Alchemist

Another very famous manga, on which the anime of the same name was based. In short, the main characters - two brothers - decided to resurrect their dead mother using alchemy. And what could go wrong for children who don’t really know how to control these powers? Half of the older man's body became mechanical, and the younger one found himself completely locked in armor from head to toe. And now the brothers have a long way to go to correct the situation and regain their bodies.

Top 10 manga series completed in 10 volumes

Popular manga series often span dozens of volumes, occupying entire shelves. But there are also many manga whose authors needed much less paper to tell a fascinating story, which is also attractive because it does not take much time to read. The Japanese site goo Ranking surveyed readers to find out the most interesting, in their opinion, manga, which has exactly 10 volumes. Site users cast 3,363 votes, which were distributed among 51 works.

The first place in the top was taken by the manga “Master Mushi” - the famous work of Yuki Urushibara, combining detective, adventure and Japanese folklore. The manga was published in Afternoon magazines in 1999–2008 and was repeatedly filmed: anime (series, specials, film) and a feature film directed by the creator of Akira, Katsuhiro Otomo. Urushibara's work received the Kodansha Manga Award in 2006, and according to a 2007 poll conducted by the Japanese Ministry of Culture, Master Mushi is ranked the ninth best manga of all time.

Mushi are not bugs, insects, or even microbes. Mushi is a completely different form of life. Their existence is hidden from most people, and only a few know that they exist in the world. Ginko is the "Master Mushi" who travels the world trying to learn more about these creatures. At the same time, he helps people who are in trouble when faced with the supernatural.

Second place went to “Parasite” by Hitoshi Iwaaki. This well-known horror manga was published in Morning Open Zōkan and Afternoon magazines in 1988-1995, but only in the 2010s was Parasite adapted into an anime series and a duology of feature films. You may come across information that the manga was released in eight volumes, but know that this is simply a later re-release. In 1993, Iwaaki's work won the Kodansha Manga Award in the general category. According to a 2007 poll by the Japanese Ministry of Culture, Parasite is ranked the 12th best manga of all time.

One day, aliens descended to Earth, looking like worms - parasites. They need to get into a person's head to eat his brain and take control of his body. High school student Shinichi Izumi protected his head from the parasite, but not his right hand, which he ate and replaced with an insensitive monster, who later received the name Pravik (Migi) from the student. Gradually, Shinichi and Pravik find mutual understanding, learn to coexist together and even begin to fight other parasites who perceive people solely as food.

Rounding out the top three is “Honey and Clover,” the first manga series by Chiki Umino, who will follow it with “March Lion.” “Honey and Clover” was created in the genres of romance and everyday life and was published in Shueisha magazines in 2000–2006. An anime series was made based on the manga, as well as a feature film and two TV series (Japanese and Taiwanese). In 2003, Honey and Clover won the Kodansha Manga Award in the shoujo (girls) category.

This is a story about art college students who have a happy time even while living in poverty.

Top 10:

  1. "Master Mushi" - 563
  2. "Parasite" - 528
  3. “Honey and Clover” – 186
  4. "Everyday" - 176
  5. “Bloody Blockade Front” – 143
  6. “Blinded by you!” — 130
  7. “Love is like the passing rain” – 125
  8. "Alchemical Weapon" - 113
  9. "Comic Stories of the Showa Era" - 111
  10. "Summoner Samon-kun" - 102

In the general top there are enough well-known manga, for example, in 11th place was “Barefoot Gen” by Keiji Nakazawa about the life of the boy Gen and his family before and after the atomic bombing of Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. 12th place was taken by the brutal fantasy action movie “Inuyashiki” by Hiroya Oku (“Gantz”), followed by two fantasy manga - “Loss Storm: The Extermination of Civilization” by Kyo Shirodaira, Arihide Sano and Ren Saizaki, and “The Rose Maiden” by the duo Peach- Pit. The vampire action movie “Hellsing” by Kota Hirano took 15th position. Following him was the romantic comedy “Revenge of Masamune-kun” by Hazuki Takeoki and Tiv; 23rd place went to the Victorian romance “Emma” by Mori Kaoru. 33rd place went to “Blue Giant” by Shinichi Ishizuki about a young man who wants to become the best saxophonist in the world, but the famous cyberpunk “Blame!” Tsutomu Niheya (“Knights of Sidonia”) ended up only in 35th place in the rating.

Berserk

Action and/or fantasy fans will enjoy this, but the first few volumes can be quite difficult to read as the art is a bit dated and the plot moves very slowly. But it's definitely worth the wait.

Historical manga with notes of fantasy and epic. The plot centers on the stories of the cruel and powerful mercenary Guts and the legendary leader of the Falcons, Griffiths.
