Fabulous record
In the 13th century in Germany, local fishermen caught a giant pike. The fish weighed 140 kg. The length approached 6 meters (5.7 meters). "German Emeli" were even able to establish the exact age of the pike. The old woman was 270 years old. Such precise information was obtained thanks to a mark on a ring placed on a fish in 1230. There was a legend that the pike was ringed by order of the king.
Fishermen tell each other the story of the giant fish from generation to generation. The skeleton of the pike was kept in the museum and was almost the main exhibit of the exhibition and a source of pride for the owners of the exhibition. But one day scientists decided to check whether it was really a fish skeleton. The first studies showed that the bones belonged to different fish, that is, the “pike” was assembled in parts, like a puzzle. There is a version that the pike was actually caught, and a fake skeleton was slipped into the museum.
Pike from Lake Gräfirn
In Germany there is Lake Griffin, which overnight became famous throughout the world. The fact is that in 1986, on one of the cold October days, a German fisherman caught a huge fish here. The catch weighed 25 kg. At that time, it was the largest pike, so the record was included in the Guinness Book.
The fisherman's name was Louis Lotharou. The man told reporters that he did not even suspect that such huge individuals were found in Lake Griffin. On that rainy day, the guy hoped to catch a few small fish, at best a carp, but the fishing turned out to be more than successful.
The pike was caught using live bait. As luck would have it, Louis had thrown some rough gear into the water that could withstand a heavy catch: the fisherman usually used fishing rods designed for smaller fish. Pike is a predator fish with sharp teeth. Bringing prey ashore is not so easy. Even small specimens can seriously injure a person, which is what happened to Louis: the fish bit the man’s hands.
How to assemble the “Pike 2” kayak
The Pike 2 kayak can be assembled in just a few minutes, even by those who have no experience in such matters. First, a flat place is selected on the shore, cleared of stones and sharp objects, then the shell is spread on it and smoothed out, turned right side out. After this, spacers are inserted into the pockets located on the cylinder sleeves. They are placed with the legs down so that the structures rest against the bottom of the pockets. Ring couplings located in the slots of the pockets help lower the spacers.
After installing the spacers, it’s the turn of the cylinders. When folded, they are placed near the front and back of the shell with the inflation tubes up, then they put their hand through the cover, take the cylinders by one end, and pull them through the sleeve, pulling tightly. When both cylinders are in the sleeves, the shell of the kayak is carefully straightened. At the same time, you should not strive to ensure that not a single fold remains. They still remain on the hull of the boat, but do not cause any harm to it.
After this, the remaining free ends of the inflatable chambers are tucked into the “skin”, and the hoses located on them are led out through the holes in the bow and stern of the kayak. They should only be half out. A pump is connected to the hoses, the cylinders are inflated until they are straightened, deflated by about a third, pulled along the covers, the ends are bent upward and pumped up to the desired pressure. Assembly of the “Pike 2” kayak ends here.
Swedish record
The fish caught in Sweden by lucky Akom Nilsson turned out to be very large. The weight of the catch is 21 kg, the length of the pike is 1.30 meters.
The Swede caught the prey using a spoon. The fight with the pike lasted 15 minutes. The man could not pull the fish out of the water, and it could not unclench its jaw and let go of the spoon. In the end, the large predator gave up.
As Nilsson admitted, at one point the guy even became afraid that the pike would attack him, but then the man pulled himself together and pulled out the fish.
The record fishing took place in January 1989. Since then, no one has seen such large fish in Sweden.
Sweden is a popular country among fishing enthusiasts. According to official data, lakes occupy 3.5% of Swedish territory. The reservoirs abound with fish.
Whole in foil
Original fish with moderate spice and slight sourness in foil will turn out soft and full of juices. Set of products: 1 fish carcass weighing up to 500 g, ½ lemon fruit, 2 tbsp. l. mayonnaise sauce, 2 tbsp. l. clarified oil, herbs for fish and coarse salt - as needed.
Roasting a whole pike: Clean the carcass, leaving only the head on the meat. Season the carcass on all sides with salt and spices and leave to marinate for about 15 minutes. Sprinkle the juice of ½ lemon over the meat. Cover a baking sheet with foil, oil it and place the workpiece on it, coating it with mayonnaise on all sides.
Important! Fans of dietary dishes can bake the carcass in foil without mayonnaise.
Wrap the carcass completely in foil and bake for 30 minutes at 180 degrees. Unfold the foil and leave to brown for another 15 minutes. Serve this delicious treat hot, garnished with a slice of lemon, good cheese and fresh herbs.
Winter catch in Switzerland
In early December 1990, one very frosty day, a Swiss fisherman went fishing. Askoni threw the tackle into the waters of the local Lake Maggiore. The man purposefully began hunting for a large predator. As bait I chose a large fish strung on a hook. Fishing with live bait brought results. The bait attracted pike, which weighed 19 kg. This is the largest predator caught in Switzerland.
Askoni pulled the catch ashore for an hour and a half. After a serious struggle, the fisherman won and the giant pike came to the table.
Cutlets
Delicious, juicy and tender fish cutlets with lard and semolina are perfect for treating children, garnish the dish with mashed potatoes and any sour cream sauce. Necessary components: 1 kg pike fillet, 30 g slice of lard, large onion, egg, semolina - 3 tbsp. l., freshly ground black pepper and fine extra salt - optional, clarified butter - ½ cup.
Step-by-step cooking process: Grind the fillet in a meat grinder with a fine mesh. Rinse the machine and roll the fillet into minced meat again. Beat the lard and sliced onion. Release the egg into the minced meat, add semolina, salt and your favorite spices. Mix the mixture and leave for 10-15 minutes so that the cereal swells.
With hands dipped in water, form neat cutlets and fry in well-heated oil until the crust is nicely golden brown. Rich, soft and satisfying cutlets are ready. They are best served with sour cream and garlic sauce and chopped vegetables.
You should not put a lot of semolina in the minced meat, as the cereal can completely kill the fishy taste
Large pike caught in Russia
Russia has always been famous for its lakes and seas rich in fish. Fishing in these places is successful, and sometimes simply magnificent.
The first record for catching a large pike in Russia dates back to 1930. There is no doubt about the authenticity of this information, because the unique case is documented and there is an archival photo in which three adult men can hardly hold a fish.
The pike was caught in Ilmen. The individual weighed 35 kg.
The second record belongs to fishermen who fished on lakes near Sortavala (Russian city). Unexpectedly and unexpectedly, a fish weighing 49 kg was caught on the hook. The pike was caught by accident. The fishermen were dragging in another fish that they had just caught. The predator saw this and decided to feast on it. By the way, the fish that inevitably became bait was also a pike and weighed 5 kg.
A much larger specimen was caught in the North of Russia in Lake Uvildy. The fish weighed 56 kg.
There is a record in the archives that in the 17th century a fish 9 meters long and weighing 2 tons was caught. Place of capture: Volga River. Scientists question this information; in their opinion, such a specimen could not exist.
But who knows whether this is true or fiction, maybe one of the fishermen will still be lucky enough to catch such a giant.
Features of the repair of the “Pike 2” kayak
In general, the models in this series are durable, but they are not immune to damage. If holes, punctures, or cuts appear in the bottom or cylinders of the boat, it can be repaired right on the road. To do this you will need a repair kit, scissors, solvent, sandpaper.
The kayak should be pulled out onto land, dried well, deflated and laid out with the damaged part facing up on a flat area. After this, a patch is cut out of the fabric that is in the repair kit so that it completely covers the cut, puncture, or hole, protruding two to three centimeters beyond their edges.
The surface of the patch and the damaged area are degreased with a solvent, cleaned with sandpaper, and covered with two thin layers of glue. When the second layer dries, heat it a little and press the patch tightly to the damaged area. The boat is left for a day. Then it can be used on the water.
Other record fish catches in the world
1. A fish weighing 17 kg was caught in Lake Osthammer (Sweden). It is noteworthy that Benny Petterson caught pike with a silver spoon, not designed for such a large catch. The boat in which the Swiss was sitting was also not designed for such weight - it was a small single boat. It took 10 minutes of intense struggle to get the fish on board. The record is included in the Guinness Book.
2. In September 1998, a pike weighing 15 kg was caught in the Baltic Sea (in the part that belongs to Sweden). Krister Mattsson hooked the fish on a special pike wobbler. Due to the movement of the boat, the predatory fish perceived the bait as live prey.
3. In 2011, Canadian fishermen caught a huge pike from a local lake, 118 cm long. But the Canadians did not remain record holders for long - two days later an even larger pike was caught in the USA (St. Lawrence River). According to measurements, the length of the predator was 130 cm.
4. Not quite an ordinary pike, but a close relative of the predator - muskellunge fish, caught in the USA. The difference between this species and traditional pike is its high size. The Muskinong lives only in fresh water bodies and is usually caught using a spinning rod. The caught individual turned out to be gigantic in size even by the standards of its relatives, that is, the muskies. The weight of the fish was 32 kg and the length was 132 cm. It took 15 minutes to pull the pike out of the water. The fishermen took measurements, took pictures with their rich catch, made a wish and released the fish into free swimming.
5. In June 2010, luck smiled on the Italians. Father and son rented a boat and went fishing on Annon. The men took with them a zherlitsa - a special device for catching large predatory fish, including pike. The weight of the caught individual was 15 kg.
6. In October 2013, a large pike was hooked by German Stefan Gockel. The length of the fish was 1.20 meters. The humane fisherman did not kill the pike and released it back into the water. Now the individual has probably grown even more.
