Lucky John silicone lures
invited us to choose the baits that the fishermen would test. It didn’t make any sense to take the Tioga, which everyone already knows very well, for a test drive, so we tried to choose something unusual and interesting.
- 's Crawfish - BAG , 3.5 inches long, shrimp flavored. It was expected that there would be summer pike and trophy sea bass.
- The Alien Bug is the most unusual design, combining both the outline of a beetle and a 2.5-inch vibrating tail heel. According to the plan, it should not leave schooling perch and ide indifferent.
- Minnow is a classic 4.4-inch vibrating tail with a shrimp scent. Selected as an already proven and reliable killer of pike and zander.
The colors chosen were varied and, in our opinion, quite popular. Three colors for each type of bait. As a result, the fishermen received 9 packs of cool rubber for the test .
Wiring Methods Lucky John Tioga
Postings can be very different, since the bait has a very interesting and rich animation. You need to “dance”, first of all, from the mood of the predator.
For active fish, uniform retrieving works well, and at any depth: in the middle layers, near the surface, and near the bottom. It is advisable to correctly determine the fishing horizon. It is useful to take short pauses and small twitches.
The passive predator prefers to grab Lucky John Tioga with a classic step-by-step retrieve. It is highly desirable to diversify the classics. This can include acceleration, tapping on the bottom, and trembling.
Silicone, smell, taste
LuckyJohn is famous for its rather soft, pliable silicone, which smells very pleasant and has a salty taste. All this allows you to catch and catch fish that poke at the bait and are not particularly active. One poke, a second, and already on the third the predator, having tasted the soft “edibility”, cannot stand it and swallows the bait completely. I am sure that the fish really like both the consistency and smell of this rubber.
But every medal has its other side. Soft silicone interspersed with salt makes the bait not very durable. This is probably the only drawback. Bitten off tails are also a common occurrence. It’s good that this is compensated by the fairly low price of the baits. In general, the combination of low price and excellent catchability is the main advantage of this rubber.

Diversity
There are quite a lot of bait options available. The most popular colors in the required sizes are available in the manufacturer’s catalogue.
It is difficult, perhaps, to find a full range of baits in our city, especially at the end of the season. Only the company’s official website-shop can satisfy all needs.
I always dreamed that such lures as the classic Tioga and Minnow would be produced in even larger sizes. It’s probably worth producing the most famous and proven baits with other flavors, not just shrimp.
Testing
Unfortunately, I started testing the “beetles” quite out of season. Although a large BUG seduced several autumn pike from the snags. But still, these are summer baits. But Minnow should now have particular success with walleye. I consider the chosen size to be universal; it will be to the taste of trophy specimens, but smaller specimens will not miss it either.

Lucky John – Minnow
It is best suited for classic jig, both on a hinged rig with a Cheburashka and on a jig head. Equipped with an offset hook, the driven body will detect the predator well. A lot of fish have been caught with this bait over the years. A sort of universal vibrotail that both pike perch and pike like. In size 3.3 inches and color “silver with a blue back” it completely mows down the fanged sea lizard. If it becomes very boring, the pike perch is picky and refuses to peck at larger baits, set it to 3.3 inches - this will almost always help to get at least some bites. The OVHash small zander goes crazy with this bait. I often use the Minnow and Tioga models as universal search vibrotails, in which I have complete confidence.

Lucky John – BAG
In my opinion, the element in which this bait is fully revealed is the jig-rig, Tokyo-rig, retractable leash and Carolina rig. Give more freedom to the bait so that all its small elements - claws, antennae and fingers - play for real, as believably and seductively as possible. Works well on pike in snags. For an average perch, the size of 3.5 inches is a little large, but a 500 gram humpback will not miss this crustacean.
Several of these specimens were caught using “machine crayfish” from river snags.
Lucky John – Alien Bug
Interesting krakozyabra. Rather, this is the only option when you can equip a retractable leash with an offset hook with such a pseudo vibrating tail, and it will not fall too much. Stabilizing tabs on the sides will handle this. I advise fans of microjig to try the smallest sizes - I think peaceful fish will not refuse such an unusual edible bug.
I didn’t install it in late fall. The size is too small for an autumn predator.

Popular models of edible rubber Lucky John
The most widely used models are:
- Tioga. The most popular edible, an analogue of the Japanese model Avaruna. The vibrotail is designed for catching bersh, pike perch, pike, perch, trout, asp, catfish and other predators. It is made in various colors and is impregnated with “Mackerel”. Equipped with an offset hook, double or jig head.
- Tioga Fat. The literal translation is “fat tioga.” Designed for catching trophy catches. Made in the most catchy colors with the addition of bright tones. The bait is great for fishing in grass and reeds. Available with mackerel aroma.
- Ballist. It is used for hunting perch, but the bait has shown itself well when catching pike perch at depth. The model is made in the shape of a worm with ribs and a twister tail. This is an excellent option for a Carolina rig and a lead leader. When fishing, you can use any type of wiring. Ballista comes in a shrimp scent.
- Basara Soft Swin. This is a model similar to the Basara wobbler, having a similar color and fish shape. Impregnated with an attractant with the aroma of shrimp. Designed for catching predatory fish. Rubber fish are produced in various sizes, which allows you to choose the best option for fishing in given conditions.
- Makora Shad Tail. A classic vibrotail with a translucent body. A foil insert is placed inside, which attracts the attention of a predator when fishing in clear water. The insert can be pulled out and a fishing firefly float can be placed in its place.
- Joco Shaker. This is the first edible with the Floating Soft Plastic system. The bait is characterized by strong buoyancy, which is achieved by a special porous structure. In addition, Joco Shaker is extra soft, yet durable. A slight vibration is enough to set the floating rubber in motion. This model is practically the only way to provoke a bite from a passive predator. The smell of mackerel increases the attractiveness.
- JIB Tail. This is an edible twister. Designed for catching perch. It is characterized by a standard twister bait shape and comes in a variety of colors. Impregnated with an attractant with the aroma of shrimp. Available in 2 sizes, suitable for any type of installation.
- Rock Craw. Bait in the form of a crustacean. When guiding, the rubber legs oscillate, attracting the attention of a predator. Available in 2 sizes: 5 cm and 7.1 cm. The first model is produced in 2 versions. One model with natural colors is impregnated with a crayfish-flavored attractant. It is designed for catching pike perch, catfish, perch and pike. The second option comes in bright colors with a shrimp scent. The food is used for trout fishing.
- Mister Greedy. A bait with a fleshy body. The center of gravity is shifted to the front, which allows the use of rubber in thickets and at shallow depths. The bait is edible not only outside, but also inside. This is ensured by using the Scent&Taste Indide Formula. Small vibrating tails are used for catching perch, large ones for catching pike and pike perch.
- Minnow. A classic vibrating tail, produced by the company since the times when silicone was inedible. It is soft and highly durable. The bait can withstand many bites. Rubber is not only treated with an attractant, but also has an aromatic salt introduced into the structure of the material.
- Troutino. Edible for winter fishing. The thin tail on suspenders constantly fluctuates, which attracts the attention of the predator. Designed for catching perch, trout and bull.
Conclusion
LuckyJohn are one of my favorite silicone baits precisely because of the price-catability ratio. Such a disadvantage as fragility for the sake of increasing edibility is offset by an acceptable price. Although recently it has gone up, which is sad. To my taste, this is one of the most aromatic and not unpleasant-smelling foods, and fish, in my opinion, also agrees with this. It is high time to expand the options of attractants used.
Thank you for your cooperation, and we ask you to replenish our city’s stores with more of this silicone.
Lucky John Rock Craw
Date: October 17, 2015 | 330
Recently, silicone imitation crayfish have become increasingly popular among spinning fishermen. Fishermen appreciated how fiercely the fish attacked the tasty piece of “meat” - a voluminous edible silicone bait with various kinds of appendages-legs. And, of course, one of the significant models of silicone crayfish is Lucky John Rock Craw . This is, perhaps, one of the most accurate imitations of crayfish that I have ever seen and used on fishing trips. Let's take a closer look at this tire.
So, it is already clear that the Lucky John Rock Craw edible is an imitation of a small crayfish. Moreover, the imitation is very accurate. Segmented neck, flattened tail at the end of the neck. Realistic claws. Thin twister-like antennae, paired appendages-legs, in general, the relief of the shell. I don’t know whether such a close resemblance to a real food object is so critical. But it definitely won’t be superfluous.
It is clear that Rock Craw silicone crayfish are a purely passive bait. It is carried along the bottom in short leaps or dragged along the bottom. In a word, they are trying to give the crayfish some semblance of the natural behavior of the prototype animal. After all, crayfish back away along the bottom, move in rather rapid jerks when a threat appears, and raise their claws threateningly to protect themselves from fish attacking from above. This is how you need to recreate the behavior of this edible.
Lucky John Rock Craw comes in three sizes: 2” and 2.8”.
The smaller size can be considered a purely microjig, for catching small and medium-sized perch, used with light weights. The 2.8” option, however, is already intermediate between a microjig and a full-fledged jig. This size is already suitable for catching a medium-sized predator and with good chances of catching a large one.
Traditionally, Luckyjon's Rock Craw crayfish come in plastic bags. A pack contains 10 crustaceans measuring 2”, or 5 pieces – 2.8”. Considering that the price per pack is about $2, this is a very good offer. Few companies offer cheaper edibles that imitate crustaceans. Lucky John is generally famous for its very high-quality tires and extremely low prices. Only Kosadaka is even cheaper. But not everything is so smooth there with the range of models, edibility and colors (although there are a lot of very killer baits there).
Lucky John Rock Craw is made of medium soft silicone. Considering the massiveness of the claws and their relatively thin bases and thin remaining processes, the crayfish plays great. This is the right balance: not to weaken the bait too much with overly snotty silicone, and not to hinder the natural action.
Silicone is somewhat loose. This clearly manifests the presence of salts inside the material.
In terms of attractant, Rock Craw baits are currently available with the scent of shrimp and crayfish. Moreover, the 2” model is made in these two scents, and the 2.8” only with the smell of cancer.
The color map is very rich. Here you can choose colors that very clearly imitate the colors of living crayfish in different seasons. For example, in the spring, these will be colors with codes: CA35, S02, S19, S21, and closer to autumn, when the chitinous shell of young crustaceans gets stronger: 085, 031. Also, there are many unnatural bright colors, which also attract fish with such colors , no doubt, we need to experiment.
There are many baits similar in shape. But in the case of Lucky John Rock Craw, there is no point in sinning with clones and copies. It’s just that these baits very accurately imitate live crayfish. Other manufacturers are trying to implement this. So, the reason for this similarity is clear. But, nevertheless, the differences are significant and these are completely different baits.
The Lucky John Rock Craw is optimally mounted on an offset hook of a suitable size and loaded with a collapsible eared sinker.
With this equipment, we get sufficient freedom of movement of the crayfish relative to the sinker. Also, the offset machine passes the hooks well. And we often catch predators in snags.
You can try using Lakijon crayfish in a diverting leash. Why not?!
Cancer must be fought either by leaps or by dragging. Large, massive claws of the bait furrow the bottom well when dragged, raising a fair amount of turbidity, as when moving a live crayfish. During jumps, tosses with the tip of the spinning rod and pauses between them, the crayfish tends to the bottom with the side of the neck, where the sinker is. The claws hover for a while, pointing upward. This also fits very naturally with the behavior of a living prototype.
Lucky John's Rock Craw fishes very well for a variety of bass sizes, especially medium and large ones. You can also purposefully catch pike perch with this bait. From time to time a pike is caught. A catfish, carp, or large chub may fly in.
In general, for such a price, excellent silicone crayfish!
