Report on trolling pike perch - Gulf of Finland, Olgino, 02/17/2018

In our northwestern region, you can catch pike perch quite well in the summer. This mainly concerns Lake Ladoga and the Gulf of Finland. Pike perch is also present in some large lakes, for example on Vuoksa, but there is much less of it there than in large reservoirs, although a very respectable specimen can be caught.

Pike perch is caught in two ways: on the track and on the jig. This is fundamentally different fishing, primarily in terms of gear. For the first type, you need a boat and usually several rods from one to ten, if the boat’s equipment allows, but this is already called trolling. Jigs, of course, are caught with one spinning rod. This way you can fish both from a boat and from the shore. They also catch pike perch with other gear, such as mugs, but here we fish extremely rarely this way. They also use special donks that look like this: on the bottom there is a load, and not a small one, at least 150 grams, a fishing line, a leash and a large foam float so that it can be seen from afar. A leash about a meter long is tied at the top of the tackle. Since a dead fish is used as bait, the tackle gives some freedom of play, this is especially good at attracting pike perch into a little excitement. Such gear is often found on Ladoga.

Pike perch have a pronounced fishing season. In the Leningrad region, pike perch begins to be caught from June 20 on Ladoga and from July 1 on the Gulf of Finland ; in fact, from that moment on, the law allows it to be caught; it bites even earlier. It is actively caught until the end of July, after which, of course, it does not stop being caught, but it ceases to be caught en masse. During the period of active biting, it forms huge schools that feed on the same schooling, but small fish, mainly smelt on Ladoga, and herring and bleak on the Gulf of Finland. Although the number of pike perch is not decreasing much, due to the enormous pressure its size is clearly becoming smaller. If quite recently the average weight of one fish was about kg, and in some places even more, now its size is clearly tending towards reduction and in some places it reaches simply indecently small sizes. You can count on some trophies only at the beginning of the pike perch season, when it has not yet been knocked out; by the end of the season, these chances decrease noticeably.

Where to catch pike perch in the Gulf of Finland

The most famous fishing place in the Gulf of Finland is the border - Repino-Zelenogorsk in the north and Bronka in the south . The places are very accessible, for almost anyone who has a boat. You can get there either by car, the Primorskoye Highway runs along the entire coast, or by train to any of the railway stations - Repino, Komarovo, Zelenogorsk, Bronka. They fish there both on rowing and motor boats. In this regard, the number of boats floating in the water area reaches critical values. During rush hour, usually around 12 o'clock at night, all you have to do is make sure you don't get confused with someone. They are caught mainly at depths of 6 to 10 meters and walk along the dump. Since fishing takes place relatively close to the shore, it looks very interesting from the outside, especially at night, when the boat lights are turned on. In terms of pieces, catches can achieve very decent results, but the weight is perhaps the smallest in the region. At the moment, the average size is 300-400 grams, and they are rarely found above 1 kg. Pike perch are caught mainly at night, but sometimes they bite well during the day. A lot depends on the weather; in calm weather the catches are always much larger. Almost exactly the same place from the southern part of the dam. The size of pike perch is almost identical. The only difference is that pike perch is not always caught here, and there are so-called approaches. You can also find it from the dam itself, and quite well.

Another place I know where you can catch good pike perch in the Gulf of Finland is in the Vysotsk , but here the size also does not deserve attention, and the quantity has clearly decreased after the construction of the oil transfer port.

Fishing for pike perch on the dam of the Gulf of Finland

Fishing on the Dam of the Gulf of Finland • ARTAFISH.RU

It is easier for fishermen from St. Petersburg and surrounding areas to go to the Gulf of Finland for their favorite hobby. It is part of the Baltic Sea, but much fresher. This fact makes the fishing process very close to river and lake fishing. Fishing on the Gulf of Finland on the dam is a beautiful vacation and wonderful places.

There is, of course, a special place in the bay - Marquis's Lawn. It attracts many fishermen, young and old. Here you can have a great weekend or even stop by for a few hours after a day of work. This is an ideal place for fishing. You need to catch fish in the first few hours spent near the pond.

In winter, when the bay is frozen, roach bite well. With all this, the choice of fishing time is important. It is better to take roach at night. Knowing the behavioral characteristics of fish will work to your advantage.

In fishing, aspects that are important to our client are the habits of the fish and the desired bait. It is better to catch schooling fish located in a large school.

Then for a good bite you just need to feed it.

The Gulf of Finland extends beyond the borders of Russia. Part of it is located in Finland. Fishermen planning to fish on the other side are required to have a foreign passport. Unfortunately, it has been proven that the bite here is at a better level than abroad. Everyone will remember a holiday in the Leningrad region on the Gulf of Finland.

Experienced fishermen cannot do without bait when fishing. However, there are ways to do without it. This method is rarely resorted to, but know that even without bait there is an option to ensure a certain catch for yourself. Fishing in the Gulf of Finland on the dam will bring its own trophies.

With the bait you will catch more than just fish, but when compared, of course you can try it without it. Every fisherman will need the ability to fish without bait. There are cases when the fish does not notice the bait at all and behaves surprisingly. It is then that you should use the acquired skill.

In Marquis Glade this fishing method can be practiced. First, choose a suitable place for fishing. This is especially important if profit will not be used. We see the fishing spot here from afar: there are already a lot of fishermen standing there.

Usually, if a fisherman is biting, they try to join him. There is no need to worry if at some point another group of like-minded people gathers around you. Everyone will get fish, especially if they gather in schools. This bay is worth visiting for anyone new to fishing.

The fishing place must be chosen based on the season.

For many people, the bay will look like a huge lake. Natural conditions made it shallow with a huge supply of fresh water. The water here is slightly salty. from 0.3.5 to 9.4%.

The resulting aquatic habitats are favored by many species of fish. They are also popular with fishermen, of whom there are always many in this body of water. The water surface covers almost 30 thousand square km.

Dam on the Gulf of Finland. special place.

The dimensions of the bay are the following: length 420 km, width 70-130 km. In the deepest place the bottom is 121 meters, the average depth is about 38 meters. During the winter months the water temperature. near zero, in summer it rises to 17ºC. In the area of the bay bottom it is constant and amounts to 2-3ºC.

The reservoir becomes covered with ice in the last days of November, and is freed from it only in April. There are winters without severe frosts, and then ice does not appear on the bay. The east of the bay is shallower and fenced off by a dam. It is worth knowing that on the day there are places that were buried by man.

The sandy beaches of the north of the bay have become a haven for a huge number of tourist centers and boarding houses with full amenities. At the same time, fishermen also fell in love with them, since here are the best fishing spots in the entire reservoir. In the northwest of the reservoir. greatest depths and vertical banks. Fishing is best in summer.

Fishing on the southern dam of the Gulf of Finland. Summer Cup St. Petersburg 2018 (feeder)

  • Only on the dam, of course, can you profit from snow-white fish (bream, silver bream or roach). To catch, use bottom and float rods and a feeder. Bloodworms, earthworms and maggots are suitable sources of bait. The fish respond better to vegetable bait, so using bread, soaked grains or semolina for this purpose is necessary only in the latter case.
  • In winter, fishing in the Gulf of Finland on the dam will be remembered for smelt fishing. For this purpose, they move here as soon as the ice rises. Smelt loves the resulting habitat conditions. Its local species will be the only one in the catches until spring. With the arrival of sunny days, Baltic smelt enters the Gulf of Finland. It has a huge size and a slightly different taste.
  • The Dudergovsky Canal has good banks, a huge amount of fish and comfortable access. This attracts amateur fishermen and experts from all over the northern capital. They catch roach, carp, perch and pike on the canal.
  • The Strelna Yacht Club houses not only yachts and athletes.
There are a lot of fish and, naturally, fishermen in its area. Fish are caught throughout the year. On the hook we find bream, perch, pike perch and roach. Who catches them using a method that is not just pleasant.
  • The Lakhtinsky Razliv is famous for its large fish, which are not so easy to catch. There is an option to catch cunning fish using vibrating tails, spinners, or spinners. Here, of course, you can catch perch, pike or pike perch.
  • Bream are found in Lakhta, Olgino, the mouth of the Neva, near Vasilyevsky and Krestovsky islands and the coal harbor.
Fishermen probably love to catch bream and roach with jigs. Perch and pike perch also live in many places. It is also comfortable to catch bream since it will certainly be in catchable places. Experienced fishermen know what remains to be done for our client to determine the dates of the massive presence of fish in various places and seasons. For example, white bream will be caught in Olgino all winter. The most experienced ones are able to immediately catch 10 kg of fish. In spring, at the mouth of the Malaya Neva and Nevka there are schools of bream.
  • Depth maps will help you find your own fishing spots.
They have been updated and contain a lot of vital and necessary data. They will help you navigate and choose the right bait and gear. Have a magical time, communicate in the lap of nature and enjoy a good catch! Go on vacation to the Gulf of Finland, its most beautiful places are clearly visible on the map.

During the winter holidays they catch smelt. This activity is very popular. The smell of cucumbers, characteristic of this fish, spreads throughout the Gulf of Finland.

Of course, the whole set of smelt can be caught with a jig using a winter fishing rod. It takes about 40 minutes to walk to the fishing spot on the ice shell. That’s why it’s worth taking a tent yourself so that you can spend a relaxing night after feeding. Holidays in the Leningrad region on the Gulf of Finland in winter will appeal only to special connoisseurs.

In the spring months, fishing can be roughly divided into two periods: before the ice melts and after. The ice crust begins to lose its position; alas, experienced fishermen use winter fishing methods and tools until the ice completely disappears in the lower part of April. At this time, the fish come to the shore to spawn and bite on the spoons of experienced fishermen. Fishing is done using spinning rods.

Popular and good places for winter fishing are Repino, Zelenogorsk and Komarovo. In the spring months, sabrefish are excellent here. They are also notable for the fact that it is easy to come to the shore with a large group. Fishing in the Gulf of Finland on the dam is also likely at that time.

The Gulf of Finland steeply deepens in the area of the village. Sands. A kilometer from the coast, the bottom is 25 meters from the surface. The bottom relief is to the liking of smelt; it lives here in large numbers. Fishermen quickly take fishing rods with this fish out of the water. You can get here by bus or by train from Zelenogorsk.

Near the villages of Vysotsk and Manola, near the coastline, the bottom was deliberately deepened. This facilitates comfortable and safe smelt fishing. There are times when schools of blackbacks appear here, arousing real enthusiasm among anglers. Fishing in the summer is especially special.

In the north of the bay, pike perch fishing begins in the next half of June. The bite occurs on snow-white nights at all depths: from the surface to the very bottom.

In recent years, wobblers have become very popular, but the frequency of jig baits among fishermen is not decreasing. The best catches will be far from the shoreline, so it’s worth taking a personal echo sounder.

It will help you find a suitable bottom topography that pike perch loves.

The Gulf of Finland is famous for its special species of fish in summer. Along with pike perch, perch also goes for bait. They have similar habitats. In the north-west of the Gulf of Finland, there were cases when pike perch attacked jigs instead of smelt. And in the golden season, small pike perch were caught with vertical spoons, and less often with balance beams. Who can find the Gulf of Finland on the map.

Test yourself and test your skill level, of course, in the fall on pike. To do this, take a 210-240 cm spinning rod with a reliable reel, and install the clutch almost tightly. Pike loves those places where water lilies, reeds and reeds grow. If you look closely, you should note their passages. In many places it is worth catching pike.

Prepare a strong fishing line that can easily guide the pike straight through the thickets of coastal vegetation. Light lures will not help, it is better from 22 g and 8 cm.

Our client needs to carefully examine the probable habitats and look for passages in which the pike is hunting. This question doesn’t take a day, but unfortunately it’s worth it. For your diligence and diligence, a guaranteed catch is guaranteed for you. There is no need to despair if the first bite is unsuccessful. After a couple of weeks, the pike will return for bait again.

The Gulf of Finland is beautiful! We'll tell you how to get there for now. Suburban trains travel there from the Finlyandsky or Baltic train stations.

For this purpose, you need to choose trains that go to Strelna or Peterhof - they move along the bay at this time. Of course, get off at the stations Solnechnoye, Kalishche, Komarovo, Krasnoflotsk, Repino and others.

Local buses and taxis run from the stations themselves to the bay.

The Gulf of Finland is very rich in fish, and experienced fishermen know this. There is an unlimited number of fishing spots throughout the year. Join them by going fishing in this wonderful place!

Sudak on Ladoga

Probably the most famous fishing spot on Lake Ladoga is Novaya Ladoga, at the mouth of the Volkhov . I think that almost all the fishermen in our region have fished here at least once, and they’ve heard and read absolutely everything about this place. All my most successful fishing trips for pike perch took place here. Over the past three or four years, I have not had a single fishing trip where I caught less than 20 kg, and in fact, most often much more.

The success of fishing in a given place, as in any other place, is influenced by several factors, the most important of which are the weather and knowledge of where the fish are currently located. It's no secret that the weather greatly affects the fish bite. I always choose a warm and windless day and don’t stick to weekends, but choose the travel time based on the weather. Since fishing takes place in the evening and at night, and the fishing place is relatively close to the city, this can be done even without interrupting work. Here, at this time, pike perch gather in huge flocks that hunt no less huge schools of smelt, which are also located in these places. The area where these flocks can be located reaches several kilometers. Therefore, it is enough just to find where it is, and the rest, as they say, is a matter of technology. The easiest way to determine the fishing location is by looking at the boats that are already fishing, and accordingly, where there are more of them, you need to start fishing. This, of course, is more reminiscent of winter perch fishing, but it works quite well. I advise you, however, not to get into the crowd itself, since fish can be found nearby, but your nerves will remain in order, since the number of boats sometimes goes off scale. On one of my last fishing trips, I tried to count the number of boats that were in sight, and I was off by 300. Fish usually stands in the upper layers of 1.5-2 m, although fishing itself takes place at depths of 10 meters, and less often shallower. Distances from shore can also be significant. I had to fish at a distance of 20 km from the coast, so the motor should be powerful enough, at least to avoid spending a lot of time to reach the fishing spot. Of course, pike perch is also caught on coastal dumps, but there it is not so concentrated and is found mostly mixed with other fish, mainly perch and pike. The size of the fish here is relatively decent, averaging 700-800 grams. There are periods when larger specimens are found, but not very often. You can fish here with spinning rods and casting, and quite effectively. It is necessary to use wobblers with a depth of 1.5-2 meters. But few catch it this way. At the mouth of the Volkhov there is good fishing with jigs, but the size of the pike perch here is also not very large, but the bite can be very active. But, in my opinion, it’s not very interesting to catch small fish with virtually no chance of catching something more significant.

Recently, quite a lot of pike perch have begun to be caught on Lake Onega . There, pike perch begins to be caught from the beginning of July. The size of the fish is much larger than on Lake Ladoga, and on average reaches 1.5 kg, which is very good at the moment. True, I haven’t come across particularly large specimens yet, the maximum is about 4 kg, but there are practically no small items. You can catch pike perch in the same places where salmon are caught. If 5-6 years ago, pike perch on Lake Onega was rather exotic and was found extremely rarely, now its number has increased many times, and in the summer it makes up the bulk of the catch. Since the average weight of the fish is quite large, the total catches reach quite decent sizes, some manage to catch up to 100 kg. As a matter of principle, I fish only the amount that I can eat, and therefore, in terms of catching pike perch, this reservoir is not very interesting for me personally; in the heat, it is simply impossible to bring fish from there to St. Petersburg - it will spoil.

Naturally, pike perch is caught not only in the places that I described, it is also caught in large lakes, as well as rivers, including pike perch in the Neva, and quite well, but there are not so many places where you can catch it en masse , and perhaps I described all of them. Of course, this applies to the North-West region.
