Catching a predator with a spinning rod in Uksunlahti Bay
First of all, I would like to note that the ban on spinning fishing in our country begins on May 15, and not with the melting of the ice, as in most reservoirs in Russia.
Pike
Uksunlahti Bay and small bays of Ladoga are places for catching trophy pike. Pike are found both at shallow depths, closer to the reed zone or banks, and in fairly deep underwater “ravines”. There it can be “persuaded” to bite, either with deep-sea wobblers when trolling or with a heavy jig.
The location for the guest house itself was chosen as a result of numerous fishing trips for trophy pike. The best places: the entire water area of the bay, places adjacent to the reed zones at the exit from the bay and around the island of Mantiansaari, as well as small rocky backwaters along the shores of open Ladoga.
Zander
Uksunlahti Bay is the largest spawning ground for pike perch in Lake Ladoga. This is due to the uniqueness of the bay, which lies in the fact that, being in the north of Ladoga, it is its warmest water area. The reason is that the bay is fed by rivers flowing from shallow peat bogs with dark water that warms up very quickly. The water temperature record was recorded in 2010 and amounted to 30.1 °C.
Therefore, pike perch willingly comes here to spawn, which begins here earlier than in other waters of Ladoga.
Having spawned, it begins to actively feed and bites both on wobblers and on jig tackle. The beginning of this period often coincides with the end of the ban on spinning fishing in the bay, namely June 25. By the beginning of August, pike perch begins to migrate into open Ladoga, and the bite gradually fades away.
On hot summer days (mid-July), pike perch can be successfully caught in open Ladoga by trolling, over great depths of 20-130 m, in the upper layer of water.
Perch
Almost the entire open water season in Uksunlahti Bay and near the exit from the bay, perch is caught. You can fish by trolling, but unforgettable pleasure can be obtained by fishing with a jig. With this kind of fishing, in addition to perch, the catch is diversified by pike perch, pike, ide, dace, large bream, sabrefish, silver bream, cheese, and sometimes some secret fish that can make fishing even more exciting. Basic gear for fishing on Ladoga
