Pike perch is a cautious fish, the hunt for which can take many hours. Unlike roach, which rushes at everything, pike perch is selective when it comes to food and carefully studies its future trophy before throwing. If the slightest danger is noticed in it, you can forget about the catch. Despite this, silicone bait shows the greatest effectiveness. But in order to choose it correctly, you need to know some characteristics of the predator, both behavioral and physical:

  1. The pike perch has a narrow mouth, so the bait should be elongated and oblong.
  2. The predator reacts to sudden movements.
  3. The favorite hunting place is near the bottom or in middle water.
  4. Sharp teeth can damage the tackle and bite the fishing line.
  5. The tackle should move both horizontally and vertically, quickly changing position.

These are only some of the features of pike perch, but even based on them you can start choosing equipment. In our rating, we decided to consider several types of baits: vibrotails, twisters and imitations. Each has the right to exist and it is impossible to say which of them is the most catchy. It all depends on many factors, such as water temperature, weather, and, of course, time of year. It’s no secret that some gear works better in winter, and completely different gear in summer. Even color can affect fishing performance, not to mention the aroma, if edible rubber is used, which we will also consider in our rating.

The best silicone vibrating tails for pike perch

Vibrotail is a bait with a moving tip and a flexible body. It is the tip that plays in the water column, which lures the predator. For catching pike perch, long rigs with a fine structure and great mobility are suitable. It is better to use neutral flavors, avoiding sharp, aggressive odors that can alert the fish. Edible rubber is most preferable, especially when fishing in winter, when the predator has much less natural prey and hunger forces him to lose caution, rushing even to dubious objects.

How to choose silicone for pike perch

When choosing silicones, pay attention to their shape, size (body length), and softness. Their popularity is due to the variety of sizes, shapes, colors, as well as the use of attractants.

Shape and size of bait

Pike perch is a predatory fish with a narrow throat. This allows him to hunt only small fish with a driven body - bleak, perch, ruffe, minnow, dace, gudgeon. This physiological feature of the river predator determines the use of silicone baits of the following types:

  1. Vibrating tails (silicone fish with a movable tail) with a low body compressed from the sides and a narrow dorsal part. The best vibrotails for pike perch have an elongated body (pike perch feed on narrow-bodied fish). Thick lures with powerful vibration also work, but in a smaller size, which is why the perch gets hooked more often.
  2. Twisters, slugs, worms, crustaceans, and various silicone creatures (simulating insect larvae) with a diameter of 10 to 15 mm having a cylindrical elongated body.

The most catchy models are the following sizes:

  • 2.5 inches (63.5 mm);
  • 2.9 inches (73.7 mm);
  • 3.9 inches (99.1 mm);

When using twisters, vibrotails, creatures with a body length of less than 2.5 inches (63.5 mm), small grass pike and medium perch begin to take them. Larger silicone fish with a body length of more than 3.9 inches are used for catching trophy pike perch in large rivers and reservoirs.

Color

Lures with different colors work for pike perch - from natural (white, silver, black) to acidic (bright orange, red, green, light green, purple), and fluorescent.
The choice of bait color depends on the fishing conditions:

  • During the day, silicones with a dark body color - purple, black, black and white - work better;
  • in the evening and morning twilight, greenish or brown-green colored silicone will be more catchy;
  • at night, when the predator is highly active, pike perch actively takes both natural-colored silicone and bright acidic ones;
  • In cloudy weather in early spring, autumn, as well as in muddy water, baits with bright body colors are more catchy.

At great depths, when fishing for pike perch, silicones with fluorescent body coloring are used. The high catchability of this color is due to the fact that in conditions of almost total darkness in river pits, it glows faintly even from a small amount of sunlight penetrating through the water column.

Weight of sinkers for installation

The weight of the sinkers used in fishing with these baits depends on the fishing conditions:

  • in reservoirs, sinkers weighing from 8-10 to 12-14 g are used to load rubber;
  • on rivers, jig heads weighing from 12 to 18-22 g are more convenient;
  • in flowing lakes and deep river bays, jig heads weighing from 10 to 14 g are used.

When catching pike perch on a lead leash or drop shot, use sinkers weighing from 12 to 16-20 g

For such spaced lead rigs as Carolina and Texas, bullet weights weighing from 10 to 16 g are used.

About edible rubber

“Edibles” include soft silicone impregnated with special attractants that have an aroma attractive to predators.
Compared to regular rubber, edible silicone for pike perch fishing has the following advantages:

  • Smell that attracts fish. The attractants with which silicone is impregnated mask its original synthetic taste very well. Thanks to this, the pike perch that grabs such a silicone does not spit it out, but swallows it more willingly.
  • Elasticity and softness. Edible rubber, compared to regular rubber, is softer and more elastic. This makes its movements when guiding very realistic, which attracts the predator.
  • Variety of colors. Edible rubber baits come in a wide variety of colors: from natural to bright acidic ones.

Basically, edible rubber for pike perch has an affordable price. One pack of such silicone often costs 2-3 times less than a branded wobbler or spinner.

Top 4. CRAZY FISH Vibro worm

Rating (2021): 4.11

  • Characteristics
      Average price: 175 rub.
  • Country Russia
  • Type: edible
  • Weight (g): 2
  • Size (mm): 75
  • Quantity per package (pcs): 5
  • Attractant: squid

The combined vibrotail is the most popular silicone bait among predator hunters. It has an external resemblance to a worm, but at the same time it can move in the water column, playing and shimmering in the sun. This gear is designed for fishing in clear water. The yellow color and splashes of sparkles create an intricate game, together with the squid flavoring, stimulating the appetite and aggression of the future trophy. The length of the structure is 7.5 centimeters or 3 inches. This size was not chosen by chance. Its purpose is to scare away small predators, such as perch, and work exclusively on pike perch or pike, which are quite large in size.

Advantages and disadvantages

  • Simple design
  • Organic flecks of glitter
  • Powerful flavor
  • Quite a high price tag
  • Requires vertical movement skill

Top 3. ALLVEGA LL Flashy Shad

Rating (2021): 4.32

  • Nomination

Lure with 3D effect The tackle uses three-dimensional coloring and a play on contrasts in combination with a 3D effect. Catchy fishing with this gear is guaranteed.

  • Characteristics
      Average price: 270 rub.
  • Country Russia
  • Type: inedible
  • Weight (g): 5.4
  • Size (mm): 115
  • Quantity per package (pcs): 4
  • Attractant: no

If your fishing takes place in winter, it is better to leave the gear at home. She is unlikely to show the result. But in the spring, during the period of active feeding, you are guaranteed pike perch, since the equipment plays on the most sensitive notes of the predator, whetting its appetite and making it forget about caution. Silicone fish has a transparent structure. The body is colored on all sides, creating a complex effect of light and shadow in the water. The tail is completely red to show the predator where to hit. The eyes of the tackle deserve special attention. They are made in 3D style and are as similar to real ones as possible, which further misleads the fish. But there is no flavoring, and the rubber itself is inedible.

Advantages and disadvantages

  • Multicolor painting
  • Transparent base
  • Volumetric eyes
  • No attractant

Top 2. RUBICON Crazy Bait

Rating (2021): 4.61

  • Nomination

Best price A pack of 12 baits costs less than one hundred rubles, that is, one piece will cost only 7 rubles, which is several times cheaper than its closest competitor.

  • Characteristics
      Average price: 87 rub.
  • Country Russia
  • Type: edible
  • Weight (g): 1.3
  • Size (mm): 40
  • Quantity per package (pcs): 12
  • Attractant: fish

If you need a catchy and at the same time inexpensive silicone bait, then this is in front of you. This relatively young Russian manufacturer has decided to conquer the world market and is doing its best to combine high quality and attractive prices. So far he’s doing a good job of it, although it has its drawbacks. The tackle is edible, using an artificial attractant, which dissipates very quickly. Especially for this, the company uses resealable sealed packaging so that the smell does not evaporate. However, even if you forgot to do this, the affordable price will make up for the loss of the set. Also noteworthy is the large tail. Gear available for catching large predators.

Advantages and disadvantages

  • Attractive price
  • Lots of pieces per pack
  • Opportunity to catch large pike perch
  • Resealable sealed packaging
  • Quickly dissipating fragrance
  • Rubber dries quickly and loses its mechanical properties

Summer baits and fishing methods

There are several ways to catch pike perch in the summer. The most advertised is spinning. Indeed, this is the first thing that comes to mind when they want to catch this fish. However, is it always effective? The fact is that in the dark, spinning baits are significantly inferior to natural baits, live bait and fry. They emit a smell characteristic of a wounded fish and their behavior is more natural for pike perch than the most skillful play of the most advanced jig bait. And here more traditional fishing methods come into play - a live bait bottom and a float rod with live bait on a hook. But most anglers still consider spinning more sporty, and then we will talk about spinning fishing.

Spoons

The two most common baits are spinners and silicone. Sinking wobblers, rattlins, mandula and other less traditional fishing methods are less commonly used. Of the spinners, you should prefer rotating ones. They produce fairly intense vibrations that are capable of attracting fish that rely on hearing and senses. Excellent results are shown by non-traditional turntables - with holes in the petal, with an asymmetrical petal, and without clamps. The color of the spinner is not very important here, but it is better to use good spinners that have a fluorescent petal color. You can determine it using a currency detector. Over time, it is washed off, so it is necessary to change it from time to time.

There are many opinions that homemade turntables are better than mass-produced ones. This is sometimes true. However, more often, an angler, buying some kind of spoon and trying to catch with it, chooses one that is catchy, which brings a good result. Then he can lose it and buy the same one in the store. If it was a cheap spinner, then the repeatability of its behavior in water will be low. It seems that the same spoon will not catch anything, and the angler will lose a lot of time before he finds his treasured spoon again.

If this is a good bait from a well-known company, then it will have a high repeatability of behavior, and it will catch in exactly the same way as a detached one. You can even recommend it to a friend, and he will also be able to fish with it in these conditions. There is no point in talking about the repeatability of the game of hand-made spinners. They are made without the use of high-precision modern equipment and are usually unique. Those who want to catch pike perch using a spinning rod should start with real branded spinners.

If we talk about companies, the generally recognized king of turntables is Mepps. Based on their shape, all the classic turntables of this company can be divided into three groups - Aglia, Lon and Comet. Aglia has a petal like a penny, womb has an elongated petal, and comets are something in between. Actually, this qualification is quite arbitrary and more characterizes the sound component of the game, and even among the Aglia series there are long petals, but this is an exception. There is also the Fury series, which has the most aggressive game, but is less suitable for catching pike perch precisely because of it.

These spinners are very different in game. Lones have a pronounced slow game, Komet - fast rotation, Aglia - from medium to fast speed. The Komet also has the largest lobe deflection angle and starts up quite quickly. All three types of spoons can be used for catching pike perch. There is an opinion that it is best to catch pike perch on the bottoms, but this is not true. It all depends on the specific preferences of this fish in the reservoir.

The size of the spoon is also selected experimentally to suit the fishing conditions. It happens that the largest pike perch takes only the smallest spoon, and sometimes it only catches the largest one. In any case, fishing for pike perch hardly involves ultralight spinning, and here it is better to use spinners from number three and above. According to the nature of the wiring, intermittent wiring gives the best results. Here the wombs will lose, since they wind up quite slowly, and for short pulls you should choose Comets and Aglia. However, here again it all depends on the fish. All other turntables usually copy the Meps to one degree or another, and you should switch to them only after you have become comfortable with the Meps.

Free-petal pinwheels are not traditional. They catch well and give less snags in strong places than traditional ones. However, fishing with them requires some skill, since their game is very unstable and highly depends on the work of the angler with the rod and reel. To fish with them you need a stronger rod and a good reel. They are often made on the basis of serial turntables, using petals from them. But there are also many subtleties in manufacturing. Fishing with these spinners is a type of jig fishing.

Jig lures

Jig baits often use silicone baits. Free-play baits that operate on a uniform retrieve are rarely used. The fact is that the most effective way to catch pike perch is with a drop-shot rig. When fishing, the weight is at the bottom, and the bait is attached to the fishing line 30-100 cm above it. For one movement of the weight with a reel, make two or three twitches with the bait, put it on the bottom, and play in other ways using a fishing rod. This behavior best imitates a wounded fish, which is what attracts walleye the most. Here they use not only silicone fish, but also worms, cuttlefish, and other baits. You can also use foam fish, but they are good for drop-shot fishing only in fairly strong currents.

One more thing can be said about silicone - it is best to use high-quality edible one. Edible silicone allows you to fish much more effectively, as it produces not only sound vibrations under water, but also a small trace of smell and taste in the water. It is also advisable to use high-quality, soft baits that realistically imitate fish or aquatic life, which have a fluorescent color. It can be determined on a currency detector. It’s impossible to say anything categorically about the color of the bait, but it has been noticed that dark worms are more effective than light ones, but tailed fry with a fluffy silicone fan, on the contrary, are better than light ones.

This kind of silicone is more expensive than usual, but it will catch better. You could even say this - the type of bait is not as important as its quality. A branded vibrotail, which is not often used for catching pike perch, will bite better than a poor quality worm even with the most skillful game.

About the size of the baits, only one thing can be said for sure - you should not use silicone that is too large, more than 10 cm. If healthy rubber bands work just fine for pike, then pike perch can ignore them. Sometimes only the smallest rubber band, 2-2.5 cm long, brings success. This, again, is determined only by experience in specific conditions, and nothing else. It is better to start fishing with small baits, and then move on to larger ones if they are not successful.

Ask a Question

Other jig baits, such as mandula, foam rubber, brooms, are used much less frequently. Or rather, they may be used somewhere, but usually they give worse results than classic silicone. Therefore, a novice fisherman should use them only if there is no result with regular silicone.

Other baits

Sometimes when fishing for pike perch, wobblers, spinnerbaits, and rattlins are used. Traditionally these are pike baits. However, they are often used when fishing for pike perch and achieve good results. Sometimes a bait such as a cicada also helps to get away from zero. It is not bad for perch, but it can also show good results when fishing for pike perch on a summer night. It is optional to use other baits when the spinner and silicone do not produce results.

lucky John Tioga

This Tioga bait from lucky John is often called “the death of pike perch” among spinning anglers for its lethal catchability and reliability. The most effective colors for this bait are purple, figuratively, the color of machine oil, and in turbid water and in the evening, acidic colors, for example, lemon and bright orange, are better suited. The running size for zander and pike is 3.9 inches.

The best silicone twisters for pike perch

The main feature of the twister is its large complex tail. It can bend and twist repeatedly. Everything to ensure that the tackle behaves most naturally in the water. A twister for catching pike perch is used most often, as it is mobile and can make sudden movements, both horizontally and vertically. It is much more difficult to choose the right twister. Manufacturers are constantly experimenting with shape, and some equipment behaves in the most unnatural way. While you can still catch a perch using such a decoy, it definitely won’t work with pike perch.

Top silicone baits for pike perch

Next, we will offer a short top rating of the best catchable, according to Internet users, silicone baits for catching pike perch.

Bugsy Shad

The bait from the famous manufacturer of fishing products, Lucky John, is distinguished by the presence of a large number of small silicone hairs on its body, combining the advantages of a classic vibrotail and a creature.

Bugsy Shad, among other things, is also edible, and it smells like mackerel.

Bass Assassin Turbo Shads

This vibrotail has a classic shape for this type of bait. The slightly slab-like body, as if carved out with an ax, tapers towards the tail and ends with a stubborn heel.

The line of these silicones has many different colors that will appeal not only to the fisherman, but also to the fish.

Crazy Fisn Angy Spin

The next bait in line will be a twister. Crazy Fisn Angy Spin smells like squid and shrimp at the same time, and the movable tail works even with the slowest retrieve, which allows you to seduce even passive pike perch.

Machine oil is one of the most popular color options for silicone bait.

Tioga 100

Large vibrotail designed for catching trophy pike perch. The bait from the Lucky John company is distinguished by its intense action on different retrieves.

The ribbed body enhances the already strong vibrations of the bait. Best Editing – Texas.

Ballist 63

Another bait from the Lucky John company, this time a combination of a long worm body with a sickle-shaped twister tail. When wiring, the silicone is like a leech.

The shrimp smell of silicone serves as an additional irritant for fish. Attention! Recently, Chinese comrades have also been producing a large amount of fishing rubber, including edible rubber. She also catches pike perch, but choosing a catchable option is often difficult.

Top 2. Keitech Mad Wag

Rating (2021): 4.45

  • Nomination

Unusual Twister shape of a unique design with a tail curved 180 degrees. The tackle is capable of moving very quickly through the water column in all directions without losing speed.

  • Characteristics
      Average price: 408 rub.
  • Country: Japan
  • Type: inedible
  • Weight (g): 2.9
  • Size (mm): 114
  • Quantity per package (pcs): 9
  • Attractant: no

The best, and therefore catchable, bait must have maximum mobility, so manufacturers are constantly experimenting with shape and design. Often such experiments fail, but not in this situation. Before us is a twister capable of extremely quickly changing its position in the water column, depending on the type of wiring. This kind of fishing is the most difficult, but catching pike perch requires constantly changing the position of the tackle in order to find the place where the predator is standing. What is unique here is the tail, or rather its shape. It is dense, thick and curved 180 degrees. Unlike similar baits, here it does not straighten out, as it has a rigid structure. Just like the body itself.

Advantages and disadvantages

  • Unusual design
  • Durable tail
  • Shortened body
  • Small variety of colors
  • Difficult to find in stores

Wobblers

In terms of catchability for pike perch, wobblers are somewhat inferior to silicone baits, since they are more of the surface type. However, a number of models are successfully used for pike perch fishing, especially due to their advantage - their resemblance to potential prey of a predator:

  • for fishing in pits and dumps, deep wobblers with a large depth (from 1.5 m) are used;
  • on riffles of different depths they are caught with baits with a depth of 0.5 to 1 m.

ZipBaits Khamsin 70SR

The original model with an attractive game, as well as its copy Mirage 70, is used for catching pike perch at a depth of up to 1.5 m exclusively with a uniform retrieve. Deep versions of ZipBaits Khamsin 70SR and Mirage are used at depths of up to 2 m, moving along snags.

Evergreen M-1 Inspire Minnow

A wobbler with a very active, close to natural game is buried up to 1 m, and for pike perch it is better to take a model for long throws, which produces a dull sound that attracts a predator. Types of wiring used:

  • uniform
  • with pauses
  • twitching

You can read more about what twitching is, its advantages and disadvantages, gear for twitching and types of twitching wiring in our article Twitching

ZipBaits Orbit 80SR

An expensive bait that is used for fishing from the shore, among snags, in windows between branches, with a depth of up to 1.5 m, on a wire:

  • with pauses;
  • twitching.

You can use a copy of an expensive wobbler - Mascot 80.

Imakatsu Riprizen 60F

With its pronounced play on a slow, even retrieve, the Imakatsu Riprizen 60F successfully collects fanged predators, especially in the evening, when the fish come out to feed. An alternative to a far from cheap bait is a successful copy of the Decoy 75F.

Evergreen LB-Roller

This wobbler is particularly good at catching pike perch thanks to active live play with even retrieving and twitching. If, having discovered a drop from 2 to 4-6 m, you move the bait along the edge, then if there is a predator there, you can safely count on a successful catch.

Yo-Zuri Duel Hardcore 50

A catchy pike-perch wobbler works well with even casting at a depth of 1.5, 2.5 and 3.5 m. It is used for both casting and trolling. A wide range of colors makes it possible to successfully select colors depending on the transparency of the water and lighting.

Rapala Shadow Rap

The bait is highly reliable and effectively provokes pike perch to bite. The Rapala Shadow Rap is easy to cast and control, has good line feel and is a great option for beginning anglers.

Yo-Zuri L-Minnow 44

Inside the bait there is a faceted weight, which, rolling during retrieval, causes vibration and makes a special sound that attracts a predator. Yo-Zuri L-Minnow 44 works successfully regardless of weather conditions. The main thing is to use the original bait, because fakes, of which there are many, will not provide the desired result.

Pontoon 21 Greedy Guts

This wobbler has a special balancing system, which is achieved by placing two weights in its voluminous belly, ensuring an ideal location of the center of mass, thanks to which the bait demonstrates a pronounced game even at extremely low speeds. For walleye, Pontoon 21 Greedy Guts are used primarily in the evening or at night, and often work when other options have failed.

The most reliable rubber Silicone bait with a very dense structure that can withstand multiple bites from the fangs of a predator and retains its mobile properties after being removed from the mouth of a pike perch.

  • Characteristics
      Average price: 400 rub.
  • Country: China
  • Type: edible
  • Weight (g): 4
  • Size (mm): 100
  • Quantity per package (pcs): 12
  • Attractant: pumpkin

Often edible silicone bait is disposable. Especially if you are fishing for pike perch, which has very sharp and long fangs. This equipment is made of durable rubber that can withstand repeated bites and even chewing. The ring-shaped body is highly mobile and also prevents the predator’s fangs from penetrating the structure. As for the shape, it is a typical twister with all the attendant features. The small tail is mobile and flexible, but at the same time does not scare away a predator with its size, as is often the case in other products. Among the shortcomings, let's mention the price tag, although this is evened out, taking into account the reliability and duration of use of the equipment.

Advantages and disadvantages

  • Small tail to attract pike perch
  • Deep rings on the body
  • Increased flexibility
  • High price tag

The best silicone imitations for pike perch

The task of an imitation bait is simple and straightforward. She needs to deceive the fish, convincing it that it is a real frog or larva. In theory, everything is simple, but pike perch is too cautious and reacts not only to appearance, but also to behavior, as well as smell. In addition, the structure of the mouth of a fanged predator should be taken into account. It is narrow and does not open as wide as that of a pike. He simply cannot swallow some equipment, which means he will not even try. Separately, you will have to stock up on attractants, that is, flavorings. Imitations are rarely edible or flavorful. Even without this, they are more expensive than vibrotails or twisters.

The best silicone baits

With the advent of such material as soft silicone, fishermen have the opportunity to use simulators that have a high degree of similarity to living objects included in the diet of a fanged predator. The similarity of silicones is determined not only by the appearance, shape and color design of the material, but also by such qualities as the realistic representation of the movements of the prey, which especially attracts pike perch to baits of this type. But in addition to these significant advantages, silicone rods are distinguished by a simple wiring technique and highly effective types of equipment that allow you to quickly bury the fishing projectile to a fairly large depth, which in most cases plays an important role in pike perch hunting.

Another significant advantage of silicone is the low cost of baits, which are irretrievably lost in large quantities when fishing for pike perch living at great depths and on the bottom with the presence of driftwood and snags. We will consider the main types of pike perch silicone in the continuation of the article.

Vibrotails

Lures for pike perch in the form of a vibrotail are considered the most effective in spinning fishing. The pikeperch vibrotail is distinguished by a narrow, slanted shape with a flat tail and heel. In general, all narrow forms of pike perch baits are determined by the physiology of the fish, or rather, the structure of its mouth, which is not very wide. As a rule, vibrating tails for pike perch do not exceed 10 cm in length, and their thickness rarely exceeds the diameter parameter of 10 mm. The color of the vibrotail does not have a special impact on the success of fishing, but the presence of notches and corrugations on the body of the silicone, a kind of ribs, gives the simulator’s game an additional sound design, which has a beneficial effect on increasing the attention of the fish to the bait.

The use of attractants in silicone, which make the rubber edible, also attracts attention. Interspersing fluorescent materials into the body of a vibrotail can improve the bite, especially if fishing is carried out in deep-sea areas. In appearance, the vibrohock should imitate bleak, small roach or sprat, which are the basis of the diet of pike perch in any body of water. When retrieving, the vibrating tail creates longitudinal vibrations that attract fish. This type of attachment is used in spinning fishing.

Twister

The twister is distinguished by the presence of a wide but thin sickle-shaped tail. Pike perch twisters and vibrotails are similar in their oblong and narrow shapes. In addition, such features of the bait material as the presence of an attractant and fluorescent in it are also welcome and add promise to fishing. The length of the optimal pike perch twister varies between 80–120 mm. An important feature of the twister is the obligatory presence of ribs on the body of the bait. It is the ribs that give realism to the movement of the bait when retrieving, and also contribute to the creation of more frequent radial vibrations that collect fish from long distances. When fishing deep, the color of the twister does not have a radical effect on the bite.

When fishing in areas with a high degree of illumination, the color of the bait is determined based on the intensity of the light, using dark and natural colors in clear weather, and exotic and catchy colors in cloudy weather. As a rule, twisters are classified as spinning baits used in open water, but recently pike-perch fishermen have successfully adapted twisters on jig heads for under-ice fishing for predators, which brings comparable results to the use of classic, under-ice fishing tools.

Other

In the category of other silicone baits we include its variety of both realistic and fantasy forms, which are called slugs, creatures, and simply silicone worms. In practice, these types for hunting pike perch are used much less often and at moments when the fish begins to be capricious and picky, completely ignoring the feed of the vibrotail and twister. Like most silicone baits, all these types of baits are suitable for jig fishing using a spinning rod in open water.

The pikeperch arsenal includes similarities to earthworms with fins on their bodies, as well as forms similar to crustaceans of underwater inhabitants and frogs. Fishing with such exotic forms implies a visual presentation of the bait to the predator, therefore, the color design of silicone will require the selection of a color that is attractive at the time of fishing. Spinners have noticed the fanged fish's preference for amber-colored baits on cloudy days and the color of machine oil on sunny days. For low-active fish, edible silicone in such forms becomes even more attractive. They try to fish with worms, slugs and creatures in shallow waters, where their game, due to the complexity of their structure, shows the highest levels of their capabilities.

Top 3. TsuYoki BETTA FROG

Rating (2021): 4.33

  • Nomination

Tackle for fishing in thickets The design of the tackle allows it to pass through dense thickets of bottom vegetation without clinging to it. The frog can develop high speed of movement, being a trigger for the predator.

  • Characteristics
      Average price: 280 rub.
  • Country: Japan
  • Weight (g): 13.5
  • Size (mm): 55
  • Quantity per package (pcs): 1

In the natural environment, pike perch often hunts frogs, unless, of course, the fishing takes place in winter, when these amphibians sleep. This gear is an imitation, but conditional. It has a different color that has nothing in common with the natural color. However, this does not prevent pike perch from reacting to the bait, since in the water it creates an intricate play of light and shadow. The frog has no legs. They are replaced by moving threads with a phosphorus effect, which allows you to fish in dark water and dense thickets. In addition, the design has a hidden hook, so the tackle does not get caught on the trunks and stems of aquatic flora. In general, this is the best bait for fishing in bushes or among bottom snags.

Advantages and disadvantages

  • Non-snagging design
  • High mobility
  • Aggressive coloring
  • Difficult to adjust wiring and control depth

Artificial baits

The most popular among anglers are artificial baits.

To select them, you need to take into account the main points:

  1. They should be quite heavy , since fish often live on the bottom. Note: shallow depth exception.
  2. The right color.
  3. Withstand a large number of bites.
  4. It is good to withstand currents , even strong ones.
  5. Meet the requirements of a particular season, etc.

The ideal baits for pike perch are:

Vibrotail

The most popular, especially for fishing with a spinning rod or feeder .

Pike perch bites it well if:

  1. The colors are bright, but at the same time natural, for example, yellow or green.
  2. is created .
  3. Size approximately 10-15 centimeters.
  4. Own “game” is the smallest.

Advice: it is better to choose vibrating tails with a narrow body, it is easier to cast and they are more resistant to the current.

Jig heads

They are considered indispensable when fishing for pike perch.

Basic requirements for a jig head when fishing for pike perch:

  1. Must be aligned with the hook.
  2. The ideal shape is round or oblong. Tip: when hooking them to a silicone bait, you need to make sure that the hook comes out in the area of the fins.

Spoons

When choosing, give preference to:

  1. Yellow color or fry coloring.
  2. Longitudinal shape.
  3. Size about 10–12 centimeters. Advice: make sure that the spoon does not cling to the bottom of the reservoir.

Balance

The main rule is that they should be flat and oblong in shape, in this case, the angle of inclination is greater and the chances of catching a large predator are higher. The best balancer size is considered to be from 5 to 9 centimeters.

Note: the greater the weight of the expected fish, the larger the balancer should be purchased.

Wobbler

The best bait for fishing, especially from a boat.

Primary requirements:

  1. Make sure that the wobbler does not touch the bottom; it is better to take floating models.
  2. It was the appropriate color (ideally yellow with blue stripes or any acidic colors).
  3. He created an active movement , and then withstood small pauses (and repeated everything until he took the bait). Moreover, if the fishing is for a more mobile and larger predator, then fewer pauses need to be made and, accordingly, vice versa. Tip: the ideal wobbler size is 60–80 millimeters.

Depending on the time of year, it is better to use certain artificial baits:

  1. Ideal for spring:
Spoons, at this time of year, spinners are more suitable for spinning fishing. The main rule: if the depth is shallow and there is practically no current, then the spoons should be as light as possible, and vice versa.
  2. Balancers, in the spring it is important to lower them correctly, this should be done quite smoothly and slightly twitching.
  3. Vibrotail. It was noted that before spawning, it bites better when such bait resembles a gudgeon.
  4. In the summer you can use everything, but it has been noticed that it is more effective:
Wobblers. In the summer and before the first cold weather arrives, you need to choose wobblers depending on the time of day; they come in 2 types: daytime and nighttime. Important advice: for night fishing, you should take a wobbler weighing up to 7 grams and with a dive of up to 1.5 meters.
  5. Spinner, if the current is strong, then heavy spinners should be used.
  6. In autumn it is better to use:
Jig heads, and for this season it is better to experiment with heads, for example, take an oval, ball- or banana-shaped one.
  7. Vibrotail, it is noted that in the fall it bites better on brown or light green colors. Interesting fact : the lower the water temperature gets, the lighter colors the pike perch prefer.
  8. Wobbler, the main thing is that its immersion depth is 5 meters or more.
  9. Balance.
  10. In winter, when fishing is done from ice, it is better to use:
      Spinners, heavier.
  11. Balancer, it is important when fishing in the winter season to correctly determine the tail of the balancer, it should be bladed.
  12. Vibrotail, and in lighter shades, for example, mother-of-pearl.

Top 2. GROWS CULTURE Trout Red Bass

Rating (2021): 4.42

  • Nomination

The best non-standard imitation Silicone bait, which is essentially an imitation, but has nothing in common with real living creatures. The catch design is designed in such a way as to cause maximum aggression in the predator.

  • Characteristics
      Average price: 120 rub.
  • Country: China
  • Weight (g): 5.6
  • Size (mm): 80
  • Quantity per package (pcs): 5

A catchy imitation does not have to be 100% similar to the real thing. Sometimes it is enough to simply make a complex structure that will cause aggression in a predator. This is exactly what this manufacturer did when creating his bait. This unusual creature has a movable tail, divided into parts, and side legs. All these parts have high mobility and are able to vibrate with different levels of intensity, attracting a wide variety of predators. But the rubber here is quite weak. The tackle does not hold up well against the blow of the fangs; it only lasts for a dozen casts. However, the price for a set of 5 pieces completely eliminates this drawback.

Advantages and disadvantages

  • Unusual shape
  • Maximum mobility
  • Lots of moving limbs
  • Reasonable price
  • Weak tires

Spoons

The effectiveness of spinners is significantly lower than that of wobblers and silicone baits, however, towards the end of the summer, when the pike perch becomes significantly more active, experienced fishermen begin to use large spinners.

Kastmaster

A universal oscillating spoon, having the shape of a cylinder cut at an angle, is used on:

  • uniform wiring;
  • stepped;
  • jig (with toss).

As it falls, the Kastmaster begins to oscillate, and it is at this moment that the fish grabs the spoon. The optimal castmaster size is 5-6 cm, and the weight is 10-21 g, and the larger the water area, the heavier the spinner should be. To reduce the number of hooks, doubles are installed.

Mepps Lusox

Lusox is one of the most catchy large heavy deep-sea spinners. It moves almost along the very bottom and has a game even more lively and active than a jig.

Mepps Aglia Long No. 3

A rotating spoon is highly effective for catching bottom predators, which include pike perch. It works quite well at great depths and in strong currents. The frequency of rotation of the petal allows you to smooth out the mistakes of an inexperienced fisherman when retrieving, which makes Mepps Aglia Long No. 3 the most suitable of all heavy metal baits for beginners.

Oscillator Atom

A heavy oscillating spoon, inexpensive, works great both in summer and winter, even with strong currents and on different retrieves:

  • uniform:
  • with pauses:
  • jig.

The stable game of Spinnex Atom with pronounced low-frequency vibration, reminiscent of the movements of a wounded fish, attracts the attention of a predator from afar. Having encroached on easy prey, he will definitely get hooked.

Top 1. Mikado CRAY FISH

Rating (2021): 4.66

  • Nomination

Reliable imitation of crayfish Silicone bait, made with detailed repetition of the smallest details. The reliable appearance and mobility of the limbs make fishing for pike perch as productive as possible.

  • Characteristics
      Average price: 550 rub.
  • Country: Japan
  • Weight (g): 8
  • Size (mm): 65
  • Quantity per package (pcs): 5

Small crayfish are a favorite delicacy for pike perch and other predators. In this case, we see the best imitation of an aquatic inhabitant with a detailed repetition of all the details. Six legs located along the entire length of the body, together with the mustache, make the tackle mobile, creating an intricate game in the water. Of course, real crayfish do not behave this way, which irritates the predator even more. We also note the durability of the rubber, which can withstand repeated bites. If you add an attractant to this tackle, for example, imitating a shrimp, the catchability will increase even more. Unfortunately, the manufacturer does not use any additional triggers. And the bait works mainly in winter.
