Oka

Murom is an epic city. It is located on the elevated left bank of the Oka. Along its entire length, this water artery forms many branches and reservoirs. That is why fishing on the Oka is so common among local residents.

There are many places in the Murom area where you can not only have a good rest on the river bank, but also sit with a fishing rod in the hope of catching a trophy bream or pike. You can fish here all year round. The river begins to freeze in mid-December. Therefore, ice fishing is a fairly common activity among local residents, which lasts until the beginning of April.

The beauty of Murom, according to townspeople, lies primarily in its river. The Oka in the city is quite wide, curved and steep. Standing on its shore, you can observe amazing landscapes. 3. Be sure to try the famous kalachi, depicted even on the Murom coat of arms. It is better to buy them at the monastery bakery, but any store has a huge selection of these delicious pastries.
  4. Try the local cucumbers for which Murom is famous. The salted ones, prepared by the monks with the addition of honey and basil, are especially good.
  5. In terms of crime, the city is safe for tourists, but still you shouldn’t relax too much - pickpockets are everywhere.
  6. There will be no problems with parking. There are many places where you can park your car for free.
  7. The views of the city and surrounding area from the water are especially good; a boat excursion will be a real pleasure.

Great fishing

For many centuries, G. Murom was a strategic outpost of Russia. Thousands of tourists come here every year to see the local attractions. Many of them are surprised at how common fishing is here. In Murom, lovers of “silent hunting” have plenty to choose from. They can fish on the banks of the Oka River or go to one of the nearby paid reservoirs, where an excellent catch is always guaranteed.

Fishing in Murom, depending on the seasons, is rich in many types of fish. Here you can catch silver bream, carp, burbot, bream, pike, crucian carp, roach and even catfish or pike perch. The most popular among locals are the spinning rod and the float rod. The first is used for fishing with a jig, while the second is used more when trolling.

The most catchy places

The Oka along Murom carries its waters for about twenty kilometers. Of course, not everywhere on its shore you can count on a good catch, but there are places from which no one returns without catch. Fishing is especially good in Murom, as local residents say, near the floating bridge from which the road to the city of Gorky begins. It usually appears in late spring and disappears after the first frost.

But the best place is Staritsa. Fishing in Murom on the old riverbed of the Oka is incredibly catchy. There is no shipping here, and the current is quite calm. Many people come here not only to fish, but also to simply relax in the lap of picturesque nature. On the island separating the old channel of the Oka from the new, there is a wonderful pine forest. Those who fish here in spring and autumn have a real chance of catching a big pike or perch. In summer, ide and silver bream bite well here. In winter, roach and pike perch are often caught on the island.

Fishing Features

After carefully reviewing the forecast and choosing a suitable place, it is also important to study the fishing features. If you fish on the Oka, you can take an inflatable boat with you, because in the middle of the river the fish will be caught much more actively, for example, experienced fishermen say that in good weather you can catch 6 - 7 kilograms of roach and ide. It is best to choose the old riverbed of the Oka for fishing; there are no ships there and the current is much calmer than in other sections of the river. Here, even at the end of autumn, the chances of catching a pike or perch increase significantly. For winter fishing, you need to choose a small pine island, which is located in the middle of the river, and after severe frosts you can walk here on ice.

Peculiarities

From May until the first ice there is real “golden” fishing in Murom on the floating bridge. Most often, a roach is caught on a hook here. However, often fishermen at this place pull out silver bream, white bream and even ide.

In general, the best way to fish on the Oka is from a boat. Happy owners of watercraft go out onto the river, as a rule, near the pier on the right bank or in the area of the pasta factory. In optimal weather and with the right bait, fishing in Murom in these places can please you with a good catch of roach and ide. At night, the hunt for burbot begins here. If the days are sunny, but already short, you can start fishing as early as eight in the evening and not collect your fishing rods until five in the morning. In September and closer to the beginning of the first frosts, fishing in Murom can also yield a catch of large dace. However, for some time now the situation has changed in the city itself, due to water pollution. Therefore, many avid fishermen, in search of a good catch, began to look for places downstream of the Oka.

Fishing on the Oka

The Oka River is popular among fishing enthusiasts. Of course, you can’t count on a good catch everywhere. Within the city limits, a lot of waste is dumped into the river, so fishing in the very center will not be possible. There are practically no fish biting there. But in the area of the temporary bridge you can count on a good catch. This bridge is located at the very beginning of the road to Nizhny Novgorod. It begins to function at the end of April, immediately after the ice melts. It will be dismantled in November until next year.

Most fishermen fish from the shore. They say the following fish species are found in the area:

  • roach;
  • silver bream;
  • ide.

Happy boat owners can count on a good catch of silver bream and roach in the summer. Some fishermen catch up to 7-8 kilograms in less than a full day. Most often they choose the following places:

  • pier area on the right bank of the Oka;
  • pasta factory area on the left bank.

Fans of night fishing indulge in their favorite hobby in August and September. It is at this time that the burbot begins to bite. It is best to set up gear at 8-9 pm. At 5 am, the burbot goes into the pits and it becomes impossible to catch it. Sometimes dace bite at night, but they are active only in September.

Old river bed

The old riverbed of the Oka, called the Staritsa, is also very popular among fishermen. Its main advantage is that ships do not sail on it , so there are much more fish there. Many fishermen come to Staritsa with their families, as the nature there is very beautiful. Boat owners most often go to the island that separates the old channel from the new. There is a pine forest there, in which the air is very clean.

In winter, roach and silver bream bite very well on the old riverbed of the Oka. Some lucky ones manage to catch pike perch, but not too large specimens. In spring and autumn, lovers of predatory fish go to the reservoir. Many fishermen return home with a good catch of perch and pike. Unfortunately, catching large specimens is quite difficult. Most fishermen complain about the severe grinding of pike. In summer, in addition to roach and silver bream, you can count on a good catch of ide.

Some fishing enthusiasts are willing to travel a considerable distance from the city to enjoy their favorite hobby. The Dmitriev Mountains are located 50 kilometers from the city. Fishermen love this place for its beautiful nature and clean water in the river. Most amateurs go home with a catch of roach, silver bream and pike.

The smallest pike weigh about 900 grams. You can also catch perch in this place. They are caught using a spinning rod.

Fishing in the Murom region

That’s why avid spinning anglers have become more attracted to fishing near Murom. They try to find more and more fertile and more secluded areas. It must be said that there are quite a lot of them in the Murom region. A good catch can be obtained, for example, in the area between Voyutino and Okshevo in the vicinity of the Dmitriev Mountains. It is located fifty kilometers from Murom. This beautiful place has long been chosen by connoisseurs of good fishing.

The Doshchatoye pier, located thirty kilometers upstream of the Oka from the city, is no less catchy. Large roach live in these waters; the weight of one fish sometimes reaches eight hundred grams. Dmitrievskaya Sloboda is located just five kilometers from the floating bridge. Here, up to the right tributary of the Oka, the Bolshaya Kutra River, there is a very good area from the point of view of fishing.

It is difficult to list all the attractive places, but one thing can be said for sure: fishing near Murom, as in the city itself, is the most popular activity among local residents. Lovers of “silent hunting” fish both from the shore and from boats, both in winter and summer, both alone and with families. The city of Murom is located not far from the neighboring Nizhny Novgorod region. Therefore, some go fishing in this region. In the Nizhny Novgorod region, which is interesting for lovers of “quiet hunting” primarily for the Oka and Volga rivers, as well as a number of small rivers and lakes, you can very productively sit on the shore of a reservoir with a float rod or simply throw a spinning rod.
