Just recently, anglers tried to catch silver carp using unusual baits. Among such baits one could find:
- carrot;
- cucumber;
- sorrel;
- nettle;
- clover;
- various algae.
In addition, they also tried to add products familiar to all anglers:
- semolina;
- canned corn;
- steamed peas.
With the advent of technoplankton, the approach to catching silver carp has changed dramatically. Technoplankton is a food powder pressed into a barrel shape. This made it possible to use conventional gear, such as a bottom or float rod, for catching silver carp.
Tackle
The equipment of a “donka” and a regular fishing rod is almost identical, but a float fishing rod is characterized by the presence of a float.
- Particular attention should be paid to the choice of fishing rod, since bites from large individuals weighing 20-30 kg are possible. This is a powerful rod from 2.7 to 3.5 m, depending on fishing conditions.
- Depending on the power of the rod, a reel is selected, the size of which should be in the range of 4000-4500. Moreover, with the obligatory condition of the presence of a clutch and a baitrunner. The reel should hold at least 100-150 m of fishing line with a diameter of 0.3 mm.
- A sinker weighing from 30 to 100 g is installed on the main line (depending on the strength of the current, fishing depth and casting distance). The fastening can be either rigid or sliding.
- Depending on the size of the individuals, the size of the hook is selected. These can be hooks No. 6, No. 8.
- You can make the float yourself from polystyrene foam by installing an anti-twist tube.
Equipment
To catch silver carp, the equipment includes a special stick or “trempel”. This equipment, which has the shape of a triangle and is made of wire, has a pin in its design on which the technoplankton is located. On both sides of the “silver carp stick” there are leashes with hooks. The main fishing line is also attached to the same structure.
Bottom equipment
With the bottom fishing method, the structure is assembled somewhat differently. A “silver carp stick” is attached to the main fishing line behind the central eye. Leashes with hooks are mounted to the remaining ears; foam plastic is used as bait. Technoplankton is installed on the trempel pin and fixed with a special rubber tube. The design allows you to attach a third leash.
Float equipment
In this case, the equipment is formed as follows. An anti-twist tube is placed on the main line, and a sinker is attached to the end of the line in a rigid manner. A float is installed in the upper part of the tube. A “trempel” with a leash is mounted to the place where the tube is attached. The “silver carp stick” has the same fastening as in the case of bottom tackle. The only difference is the absence of foam balls on the hooks. In this rig, the hooks should be 5-15 cm below the technoplankton barrel, which is ensured by the length of the leads.
Technoplankton fishing gear
All types of gear that are used for catching silver carp using technoplankton have one common part called the silver carp stick. This product is made in the form of a diamond or square frame with a sliding pin. The plankton cylinder is placed on this part. Leashes with attached hooks are attached to the enclosing parts of the frame, and these elements should be located in the food decomposition zone, or rather in a cloudy spot. While moving through the reservoir, the fish will “be attracted” to the muddy food, begin to actively suck it in and get hooked. Now let’s get acquainted with the types of rigs for silver carp.

Bait and groundbait
Technoplankton is characterized by its effectiveness in catching silver carp, which is associated with the characteristics of its diet. Unfortunately, such bait can only be purchased in a store, which costs some money.
The powder consists of various components that stimulate the silver carp's appetite. This is due to the addition of flavor enhancers and flavorings. On sale you can find technoplankton with different aromas:
- original;
- bloodworm;
- strawberries;
- honey;
- anise;
- blood;
- vanilla;
- raspberries, etc.
So far no one has been able to come up with an alternative to technoplankton, although searches among fishermen are ongoing. If some fishermen have something to contrast with their daring, it will only be somewhere and in individual bodies of water. The action of technoplankton is based on its constant dissolution in the water column and the formation of a feeding spot in this place from very small particles of food. This creates conditions for attracting silver carp, since it feeds mainly on such small particles. Although silver carp does not refuse aquatic vegetation, clearing water bodies of it.
How to catch silver carp with porridge
The technique of fishing for porridge is no different from the technique of fishing for technoplankton. The only difference is in the method of feeding the bait to the fishing point. But there are some features that need to be taken into account: the consistency of the bait should be such that it does not break when it hits the water and, at the same time, is capable of creating a cloud of turbidity in the water column. If possible, it is better to add bait in the form of porridge to the fishing point using a boat or radio-controlled boat. Nowadays, many lovers of such recreation prefer to use radio-controlled assistants.
Preparing porridge with the required characteristics is quite a troublesome task and cannot be done without special ingredients. As a rule, in such cases, purchased “Geysers” are used, which have proven themselves well when catching silver carp. In this case, purchased ingredients are mixed with homemade cereals.
Alternatively, store-bought bait can be replaced with Yubileiny cookies, which work well in water. Cookies are mixed with ingredients such as porridge, bread, cake, halva, etc. The main condition for a perfectly working bait is the ratio of dust-forming components, which should be at least 50%. These components are:
- Purchased baits such as "Geyser".
- Cookies "Jubilee".
- Semolina.
- Bread, both white and black.
- Powdered milk.
- Breadcrumbs, etc.
You can add flavoring ingredients in the form of honey, dill, peas, cumin, garlic, etc. to the dry ingredients. In this case, you need to monitor the dosage so that the too rich smell does not scare away the silver carp. This is true when using artificial flavors. Too large a dose will only do harm, but will not increase the number of bites. Particular attention should be paid to monitoring the preparation of porridge so that the smell of burnt ingredients does not appear. Therefore, during the cooking process you should constantly stir the porridge.
Fishing technique
There are no special features in the technique of catching silver carp. The main thing is to correctly mount the equipment and secure the barrel with technoplankton. After this, the tackle is thrown into the water, and the fishing rod is placed on a stand. The moment of the bite can be recorded using a float or by the movement of the rod tip. It all depends on what fishing method is chosen at the moment.
Technoplankton can remain in the water for 1.5 to 2 hours, slowly dissolving and attracting silver carp. After the approach of fish interested in the nutrient medium, the silver carp begins to suck up small particles of food, not noticing that there are hooks in this thickness. While sucking in the food, the fish also sucks in the hooks, after which it tries to get rid of them, but it’s not so easy. As a result, a bite follows and the angler only needs to make a hook.
It is advisable to use a float rod when the fish are distributed over different layers of water. This can happen at night, but as you know, large specimens always prefer depth.
After the bite, there is no need to rush to fish. Silver carp is a strong fish and needs to be killed at some distance from the shore. After this, when it becomes clear that she practically does not resist, she can be brought to the shore. When pulling silver carp out of the water, you should use a landing net. Its size should correspond to the size of the fish.

Bait for silver carp
Silver carp are caught using technoplankton and plant baits.
Technoplankton is a compressed barrel of bait. It can be used to catch a variety of fish. It is secured using the “silver carp shelf” tackle.
If you want to learn how to make technoplankton with your own hands, you can learn about it from our article. You can also use some plant baits to catch silver carp. When approaching, the silver carp will suck them in and bite accordingly.
Let's highlight some of them:
- Polka dots.
- Pieces of cabbage or cucumber.
- Vegetables.
- Fruits, etc.
The main requirement for bait is its freshness. The bait should be firmly attached: for the most part, you have to wait a long time for a bite and a poorly secured bait will fall off the hook.
Silver carp baits can be prepared without much difficulty at home. As for plant food, everything is simple: it will be enough to break the bait into small pieces. It’s better to bait them in several parts per hook.
To make technoplankton at home you will need:
- Pea powder.
- Carp bait.
- Powdered technoplankton.
- Baby food.
- Groundbait "green silver carp".
You need to mix all the ingredients so that they are used in equal parts. To press the mixture, use a mold that you will clamp in a cleaver to compact the mixture.
Bottom fishing for silver carp (at depth)
First of all, when it comes to tackle for silver carp, it should be noted that it must be very durable. Some specimens of silver carp can reach 30 kilograms.
The gear used for catching silver carp is as follows:
- A rod measuring from 3.5 to 4.2 m.
- The reel must be inertia-free with a friction brake to reduce the resistance of the fish.
- We use fishing line 0.22-0.4.
- Hooks are selected depending on the expected size of the silver carp, but you should not use too small ones.
The main element of the equipment is the spring. This spring is clogged with bait, and you need to put pieces of foam on the hooks. This will help create good buoyancy in the leash. After the tackle hits the water, the foam swells and floats above the spring. Usually there should be no more than three leashes. The length of the leashes should be between 5 and 7 cm.
Plankton fishing
Relatively recently, fishermen had the opportunity to fish for technoplankton. In this case, it is necessary to use special equipment, which uses a sliding sinker and a barrel with technoplankton. Technoplankton dissolves in water and forms a cloudy cloud that attracts silver carp.
When fishing with plankton, the leashes float above the cloud, and this allows the silver carp to be hooked. Technoplankton contains special components that increase the appetite of fish.
In order to fish with technoplankton, you need to put foam on the hooks. This fishing method implies that the silver carp comes up to filter the clouds that have formed and is hooked. This type of gear produces pretty good results. And on some days your catch will be very significant.
Fishing with porridge
When fishing for silver carp, you can use springs and porridge to fill. It can be anything, but it is important to add at least one of these elements to it:
- Semolina.
- Vanillin.
- Cookie crumbs.
- Bran.
- Honey, etc.
This will help add additional taste and smell to the porridge, and therefore will better attract silver carp. The porridge also creates a cloudy cloud in the water, which, due to the consistency of the porridge, will remain stable in the water.
Lure
When preparing bait, you should remember that silver carp does not like strong odors. Here are some proven recipes:
- One kilogram of peas needs to be boiled over low heat to make a puree. Then, while stirring, you need to add 100 grams of milk powder and half a kilogram of semolina. Mix until a very sticky consistency forms. It is important that the peas do not burn, this will have a negative effect.
- Prepare equal proportions of the following ingredients:
- Powdered milk.
- Breadcrumbs.
- Cake.
- A couple of pinches of dill.
Mix the above ingredients in one bowl. Prepare water in which you need to put a teaspoon of soda and citric acid. Then little by little add the resulting liquid into the container. Mix until you get a thick consistency.
We fill the spring with the finished porridge and throw it in. It is necessary to take into account that the porridge needs to be changed after each cast. This will increase the attractiveness of the resulting cloud after each cast.
When bottom fishing for silver carp, there are some nuances that are important for the fisherman to know:
- Silver carp is a rather finicky fish. Therefore, he may peck one day and not the next. If you decide to hunt silver carp, then at the same time fish for other fish. This will help you not to be left without a catch if something happens.
- Before casting the tackle, be sure to fill the feeder with bait and put foam on the hooks. If this is not done, then such fishing is impractical.
- Try to throw in the same place. This will help you feed a large number of fish in one place.
- You need to choose a place where there will be no coastal bushes, floating trees, snags, etc.
- If you use technoplankton for fishing, cover the leashes with bread crumbs. This will allow them not to get confused during the flight. In water, the bread will simply become soggy and fall off, and the leashes will level out.
How to increase your fish catch? ">
Over 7 years of active fishing, I have found dozens of ways to improve the bite. Here are the most effective ones:
- Bite activator . This pheromone additive attracts fish most strongly in cold and warm water. Discussion of the bite activator “Hungry Fish”.
- Increased gear sensitivity. Read the appropriate manuals for your specific type of gear.
- Pheromone -based lures .

How to make tackle for catching silver carp video
Bottom tackle for catching silver carp video: This video shows how to make bottom tackle for catching silver carp using technoplankton.
The video shows how to make equipment for catching silver carp. Fishing for silver carp is very interesting, since silver carp is a strong fish and every fisherman would like to compete with a worthy opponent. Previously, it was believed that silver carp could only be caught with nets, but now there are practically no fishermen who have not caught them.
Catching silver carp from the surface
Silver carp are caught from the surface using float gear. Let's look at the main components of the gear for this fishing:
- It is best to use carp or feeder rods. The length of the rod should be from 2 to 4.2 meters.
- The coil must be power. It will help to withstand the heavy load that the silver carp will create. It is best to use reels that are equipped with a rear drag.
- To fish from the surface you need to use a carp line with a diameter of 0.3 - 0.5 mm.
- The hook should be very strong with a medium shank size. It should not be too short and not too long.
- The float must be installed so that it can withstand this weight and stand on the water.
Catching silver carp in winter from ice tackle
There are different types of devices for catching silver carp in winter, which have their own characteristics.
A bottom feeder, as a rule, does not have a float. Suitable for catching large specimens. Such tackle should be made coarse and massive, because the fishing rod will not be used. To achieve maximum effect, you need to use a convenient location, which is calculated at a distance of six meters from each other. This method will help to completely get rid of problems when fishing is carried out during the current, since in such conditions gear often gets tangled.
The advantage of bottom tackle is its ease of use and simple design. It also has a high level of power, which allows you to cast massive rigs and pull out huge fish. You can choose monofilament or cord, there is no particular difference. Many argue that it is wiser to choose a fishing line; it can withstand heavy loads.
The most popular is float tackle. It is good for catching silver carp. But for such equipment you will need to use a carp rod or spinning rod. You should also choose a strong fishing line 0.25-0.35 mm. This should be done according to this principle: if the water is not cloudy and free of debris, then match it to the color of the sky or the color of the water itself. The rod should be 2-4.5 m.
Silver carp always looks at the bait from below, and clear water gives it the opportunity to see the sky. At the bottom, the float, like the fishing line, should have a sky-colored color, and at the top it should be bright. It should not have a vertical position, only horizontal. Slight tilt and small size are allowed. With a fishing rod you can catch small fish weighing up to two kilograms.
Float tackle with a sliding float "Barilka". The use of a sliding float together with a load comes to the fore. This method will help secure the float and tackle from the side of the load and the rod. To make it, take a feeder tube and place it on foam plastic.
Spring feeders with a float into which bait is hammered are also widely known.
A competent choice of gear, as well as knowledge of fishing rules, will help you get trophies of impressive size.
Equipment for catching silver carp
To create equipment for catching silver carp you need:
- Thread the sinker through the main line.
- We pass two stoppers and a float through the main line.
- We tie a “trempel” to a feeder from which three leashes hang.
The result is equipment for catching silver carp from the surface.
Let us point out that there is also another option for equipment, which excludes the use of a “trempel”. In this case, place a sinker on a leash at the bottom of the feeder, and two leashes on top. This equipment is best used when fishing on a reservoir with a clean bottom.
It is best to secure these tackles on a cambric. To make it convenient to remove it if necessary. This may be necessary if you need to replace the tackle with a bottom one.
Fishing process
After the tackle has been thrown, you need to make a couple of pull-ups. Do not forget that the sinker must completely roll along the line and fall to the bottom of the reservoir. After this you need to wait for bites. Usually the silver carp comes up to filter the resulting cloud and swallows the hook.
So, when the float sinks sharply, this is a sure sign of a bite. After you have made the hook, start dragging it to the shore. Just don't do it too quickly. Better wear him out.
Nuances of fishing
- If you see that the float is tilted at an angle of 45 degrees, then this is a sure sign that the feeder is empty.
- If purchased technoplankton does not dissolve well in water, pre-soak one barrel. And when you rethrow the tackle, install it.
- If there is no bite within an hour, then it is best to re-throw the tackle. Try to throw in one place to collect more fish.
Catching silver carp with bottom tackle
The design of equipment for donkey is simple. On a large spring feeder, 2 or 3 hooks are installed on leashes at least 20 cm long. It is better to make leashes from a braided cord, since it has no memory. Diameter – up to 0.12 mm. The hooks are equipped with foam balls. The fish sucks them in along with the rising particles of food and is caught on its own. To prevent the hooks from getting tangled when casting, it is advisable to insert them into the bait, but not deeply.
Bottom tackle for silver carp
Donka fishing has a couple of serious disadvantages. The main one is homemade bait with the same components as for float tackle. If you make a mistake in the proportions, it will not “gather dust”. True, you can play it safe and add an Alka-Seltzer tablet to each filled feeder. Having reacted with water, it will begin to boil and destroy the mixture from the inside.
Another disadvantage is the fishing horizon. Fattening silver carp rarely sinks to the bottom; it is more attracted to natural food that accumulates in the upper layers.
However, the simplicity and availability of bottom gear made it quite popular. Perhaps some people are not satisfied with the catches that it brings, but they exist, which in the case of silver carp is already good.
Silver carp killer tackle
When catching silver carp from the surface, you can use gear with a self-explanatory name – “Silver Carp Killer”. The tackle contains a large float, to which a feeder with hooks is attached at a distance of 30 centimeters. The hooks should hang below the feeder to get into the cloud of turbidity that forms in the water.
The silver carp swims up to this cloud and sucks in the mud and hooks. This rig uses a sliding sinker that is positioned above the float. The sinker is installed to act as an anchor. The float stands vertically due to the fact that the feeder pulls down.
To make such gear yourself, you need to use the following algorithm:
- We pass a sinker weighing at least 30 grams through the main line.
- We insert a stopper and a float into the line.
- We connect the fraction with a bead;
- We tie a silver carp stick, which we equip with either a spring or technoplankton. This type of tackle is a metal trempel with a welded stick from which the leashes come out. It will be enough to thread the base of the stick through the hole of the technoplankton and the tackle is ready. This stick is sold in any fishing store.
What is technoplankton on silver carp?
Fishing for silver carp using technoplankton is considered a priority type of catch for this fish. The bait, made in a factory and offered in fishing stores, looks like it is pressed into a large tablet or granule of dry nutrient mass with mounting holes that allow you to securely fasten the element as part of the equipment. The tablet itself consists of a mixture of ingredients that are attractive to fish and all kinds of flavorings, which attract the trophy to the fishing point with their smell.
The components of the tablets, and they initially represent a fine-grained mass, are mixed with each other, moistened to the parameters required for gluing and pressed under high pressure. After drying, mounting holes are drilled in the granules and the ready-to-use product is vacuum packed. The tablets differ in size and composition of ingredients and attractant, which allows the fisherman to select a certain type of bait for individual fishing conditions.
The basis for the production of granules is finely ground cereal crops, and concentrates of sweet odors are most often used as flavoring agents. Each manufacturer keeps the secrets of the recipes for their product, but the technology for preparing technoplankton remains similar for all companies and, if desired, the fisherman can independently prepare a version of the bait at home that is completely appropriate for the conditions for successful catching of silver carp.
When to catch silver carp
What time of year to fish
- The best time of year for catching silver carp is summer. During this period he is especially active. The number of bites will be especially high during the spawning period. At this time, he is especially hungry and will try to eat more. Don't be surprised if the bites happen one after another.
- Usually the best time for biting is considered to be early morning and evening. However, in some reservoirs the bites may not stop throughout the whole day.
- Already in September, silver carp stops pecking and behaves passively. Every bite at this time is worth its weight in gold. So try to do everything right.
- In winter, silver carp are not caught. At this time, it goes deep to the bottom and buries itself in the silt.
What time of day to fish, features of fishing at different times of day
- It is best to catch silver carp in the morning and evening. At this time of day, the silver carp is looking for food. Therefore, it is best that before this time your gear is already in the water. In this case, your chances of getting a bite increase.
- During the day, the fish usually go to the bottom, and at night, silver carp bites occur very rarely. But you shouldn't neglect this. Leave one “silver carp killer” in the water.
Choosing a fishing spot
It is best to catch silver carp in those places where it was launched a long time ago. This fish usually stays far from the shore: even in the morning and evening it does not come within 20-30 meters.
How to catch silver carp using technoplankton
By purchasing a dusty flavored tablet or mastering the art of making technoplankton with your own hands, as well as collecting the appropriate equipment, it is quite simple to understand the secrets of catching silver carp.
Important! It is more promising to catch silver carp in the early morning and evening hours before sunset at long distances from the shore.
To install the rod, select a section of the coastline with a gentle entry into the water free of algae and no obstacles for long casts, bushes or trees. The installation is delivered to the longest possible distance into a free area of water with depths from 2 to 5 meters, without being particularly tied to certain bottom anomalies and thicket banks.
Schools of active silver carp constantly comb the reservoir, looking for attractive plankton and, following the trail of smell and dust, sooner or later they will definitely come out for bait. The fish bite is gentle without harshness or aggression. The trophy who takes the hook smoothly moves the float to the side or gradually loads the quivertip, pulling the cord from the reel, turning on the baitrunner. Having determined the bite, you should make a control soft hook and start landing fish. If there is a specimen weighing 1–3 kg on the hook, the fishing is forced, preventing the trophy from being pulled away from the shore by the rig.
Large specimens are pulled in by pumping out the tackle with a whip and a reel, monotonously tiring the fish. The jerking of a ten-kilogram silver carp during high-speed fishing will certainly lead to breakage of the equipment. Having brought the trophy to the shore, the fish are taken by entering the water in a landing net, which is why, when choosing a place to set up the tackle, they pay attention to the flat and shallow coastlines, which contribute to the comfort of fishing.
Bait for silver carp
You can feed silver carp using both purchased and homemade baits. The undoubted advantage of self-made ones is that you can adjust the composition depending on the fishing conditions. There are many bait recipes.
Pea bait. To prepare it we will need:
- 1 kg of pea porridge.
- 1 kg semolina.
- 100 grams of milk powder.
Cook the peas until they form a puree-like consistency. Remove the porridge from the stove and add dry milk and semolina. Cool the porridge and knead it until a thick mass is formed. The end result should be a dough-like mass. If there is no semolina, then you can use bran or flour.
Another fairly common recipe is the following, for which you will not need:
- Corn flour – 1 kg.
- Wheat flour - 1 kg.
- Rice flour – 200 grams.
- Powdered milk – 100 grams;
Mix everything except milk powder and pour in sweet syrup. To prepare this syrup, use sugar (200 grams) and water (200 grams). After the syrup has been added, we leave the resulting mass to soak for several hours. After two hours, pour everything into cellophane and roll it up.
This bait needs to be prepared several hours before fishing.
Technoplankton recipe for catching silver carp
Technoplankton recipe for catching silver carp:
- bait with a geyser or “Geyser”;
- 1 liter can of mixed feed with corn grinding;
- 1 package of milk powder or semolina;
- diphnia
- flax or hemp seeds.
All bulk ingredients are mixed together, and seeds are added before bait.
For another option, you need 10 parts corn flour, 10 parts wheat flour, 2.5 parts rice flour, 2.5 parts milk powder. The mixture is filled with syrup, then dried and rolled into cellophane until it cools.
Blitz tips
- When buying technoplankton, try to buy a high-quality product from well-known manufacturers. Low-quality technoplankton may not dissolve in water at all, which will ruin fishing.
- Replace hooks if they are no longer in good condition. A dull hook will not be able to catch in the mouth of a silver carp.
- If bites do not occur for a long time, then change the place of fishing.
- Experiment with bait. If it doesn’t bite on one, then you need to replace it with another.
- Don’t be upset if the silver carp doesn’t quickly peck at the tackle you prepared. And catch other fish in parallel.

Who it
Silver carp is a freshwater, schooling fish of the carp family. In another way it is called silver carp , and because the silver carp eats algae abundantly, the Chinese nicknamed it water goat . Subspecies of silver carp are motley, white, and hybrid. Some individuals reach sizes of more than 1 meter and weight 50 kg; the usual average weight is 5-20 kg.
Silver carp meat has a specific delicate taste, fatty and juicy. It is baked in the oven, fried, or minced into cutlets or meatballs. The head produces a rich soup, which even at low room temperatures can solidify into jellied meat.
This fish species is widespread in temperate latitudes of the northern hemisphere of Eurasia and America. The annual amount of industrial catch by nets amounts to tens of thousands of tons, and the size of catches for amateur fishermen will depend on the time of year, places and fishing techniques.
Spawning
At the age of 5 or 6 years, silver carp begin to spawn. The female lays floating eggs numbering about half a million. This process occurs during the summer flood of early June at a water temperature of 18-22°C, mostly in places of whirlpools or strong currents. Next, the size of the eggs increases and thus they begin to develop. The fish turns from a fry into an adult, ready for catching, after 1.5 years.
What does it eat?
Zooplankton is the basis of the diet of juveniles. After three months from the time of fry, the fish switches to a mixed diet, including detritus, phytoplankton and underwater vegetation. It happens that silver carp are specially bred in overgrown ponds, as they are excellent “reclamation” of reservoirs.
Where does it live?
Mouths of tributaries. At confluences, the water is more enriched with oxygen, and this is the main reason for the abundance of food. In this part of the water area, silver carp should be caught when there is no wind, and where the current is calmest.
Depths. To fish deep places, you cannot do without a boat. Catching silver carp at depth is quite a troublesome task, but you do come across trophy specimens.
Coastal zone. Fishing from the shore is easy, as silver carp love to go out to sun-warmed shallows to feed. But even here there are difficulties - a large fish will uncontrollably try to escape into the coastal thickets, and then it will no longer be pulled out of there. Large specimens near the shore are rare; most often they appear if there is a cliff nearby to depth. In such places it is good to fish with gear nicknamed the “silver carp killer.”
Underwater spit. Standing in shallow water, it is easiest to catch silver carp. There is usually no food supply near the spit, and the fish here are more willing to take any kind of bait.
Flat bottom with little current. Silver carp love to relax in this area. It looks like a good place for fishing, but not for silver carp. The problem is the supply of complementary foods; the fish just gets scared and leaves. Sometimes they try to correct the situation using a boat, but this option is also ineffective.
What time of year to fish
Often at sunset, schools of silver carp come close to the shore, and with the first rays of the sun they swim away long distances. This behavior is explained by the abundance of food in the coastal zone and the caution of the fish. In the cold months of the year, when the water temperature does not rise above 10°C and silver carp can no longer be seen near the shore; the fish goes to the depths to “winter.”
Fishing in spring
With the first warmth, silver carp are still at the bottom and feed on detritus. After a few sunny days, schools of fish begin to gradually approach shallow water, where they can feast on young algae. As they grow, the feeding becomes more intense, and therefore the biting becomes more active. The best time for fishing in early spring is mid-April , when zoo- and phytoplankton have already appeared; end of May - beginning of spawning.
In summer
The last week of May and the first third of June is the spawning time for silver carp. During this period, it is recommended to give the fish the opportunity to calmly release its offspring into the world. Therefore, this type of fish begins to bite from the end of June. In the summer, silver carp have the appetite of a herbivore ; every now and then they engage in gluttony in enormous quantities (most likely, this is why they grow to the same size).
In summer, biting activity depends little on the weather (as with all cyprinids), and the greatest peak is observed at dawn (from 3 to 5 o’clock) and in the morning at 7-9 o’clock.
Instability of the bite, even with an attractive bait, occurs due to blooming water in early August . Due to the abundance of natural food, fish pay less attention to complementary foods or baits. Often a complete absence of biting is observed on hot sunny afternoons.
in autumn
As the cooling intensity increases, aquatic vegetation also disappears. Silver carp are forced to gradually retreat to the depths of reservoirs in search of food. Until the beginning of October, when the coastal water temperature does not yet drop below +10, fishing can be successful at any time of the day. And the days are not too hot, and the heat-loving silver carp is comfortable in the aquatic environment.
Silver carp have a good bite during prolonged bad weather , which abounds in the autumn season. In late autumn, the fish completely refuse to bite, as well as from feeding in general. Fish that have fattened up during the warm period of the year begin to take wintering places in deep bottom holes. The latest time of year for catching silver carp is the rare sunny and warm days of November. There is also winter fishing with its own characteristics, but this is a story for another story.
What to fish with
Technoplankton
Technoplankton is compressed food placed in a small barrel. From this container, technoplankton dissolved in the water comes out, creating a cloud of turbidity on the water surface that attracts silver carp.
Killer tackle
The “silver carp killer” is a tackle for surface fishing, which is based on a feeder with several hooks and a large float. The distance between them is 30 cm. After casting, a cloudy sphere is created around the hooks, similar to the concentration of natural zooplankton. The fish, not suspecting a catch, swallows this cloud of turbidity along with the hooks.
An “anchor” is attached to the fishing line above the float . Thanks to this gravity, the float takes a vertical position, and the feeder sinks below the surface of the water to a certain depth.
The low probability of line tangling and reduced windage of the system are considered the main advantages of this gear. However, the “silver carp killer” is difficult to use in strong currents, when every now and then you have to re-throw the tackle.
On the float
For float fishing for silver carp, special equipment is used specifically for technoplankton . The set includes a short and flexible rod (up to 5 m) with guide rings, which is equipped with a spinning reel with a reliable brake.
The main line should be nylon, 0.3-0.4 mm thick. The leash can be made of braid with less tensile strength compared to the main line. Hook sizes should be in the range of numbers 5-8, they should be light and strong enough to cope with the powerful jerks and turns of strong silver carp.
The float must have a greater carrying capacity, in contrast to the weight of the equipment. Typically, sliding varieties of floats are used - from 30 to 40 grams. The range of movement of the float is limited on the sides by rubber dampers. Above the float, a weight (anchor) is attached to the fishing line, which lowers the fishing line to the bottom.
Bottom tackle
Bottom gear is used to catch silver carp at a considerable distance from the coastline. This can be either a regular donk or a feeder. Changes were also made to this equipment due to the use of technoplankton.
The rod should be short and stiff. A silver carp stick is tied to the main line - mesh feeders with a central loop. Barrels with technoplankton are placed in the feeders. 2-3 leashes are tied to the branches of the trempel.
What to feed
The natural diet of silver carp is underwater plants, larvae, drowned insects, and phytoplankton. For bait, cereal bran, garden leaves, bloodworms, maggots, as well as flour or flour mixture from other products are used. It is needed to create a nutritious cloud in the water, and this is the main condition for catching silver carp.
Groundbait recipe No. 1: millet
To prepare an attractive mixture for silver carp, you need to take:
- 2 kg of millet;
- half a package of breadcrumbs;
- a glass of makukha;
- 50 g milk powder.
Easy to cook. Millet should be divided into two parts: 700 and 1300 grams. Boil the larger part, stirring occasionally, for 15 minutes, then let it sit in a covered pan for a couple of hours. The second part of the millet must be ground to the consistency of flour and mixed with the rest of the ingredients.
Boiled frozen millet should be divided into small pieces, coated in a flour mixture and laid out to dry.
Recipe No. 2: peas with honey
There is also a complementary feeding option. To prepare it you need to collect the following components:
- 20 g honey;
- 1.5 kg of dry peas;
- 3 kg semolina.
The peas need to be boiled. To do this, you do not need to soak it, just pour it into boiling water and cook over low heat for 3 hours. To get a homogeneous porridge, you need to periodically stir the contents of the pan all this time.
Next, you need to properly cook the semolina. It is cooked for 4 minutes with maximum water. After this time, the water must be drained, leaving only the porridge level. Then cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until it reaches a consistency that does not stick to your fingers.
At the final stage, mix semolina, peas and honey. Divide the mixture into small parts and leave to dry. The end result should be hard but not brittle balls. They will be suitable for fishing for a week if they are stored in an airtight container at a temperature of no more than +5-8°C.
Recipe No. 3: corn-rice
For the next recipe for attractive complementary food for silver carp, we will prepare the following ingredients:
- 1 cup rice;
- 2 cups corn kernels;
- 2 cups breading;
- a spoonful of honey;
- parsley.
It's also very easy to prepare. The rice must be boiled until a homogeneous viscous mass is obtained. Boil the corn. Add corn, breading, honey, grated herbs to this rice mixture and mix thoroughly. When cooled, a consistency is obtained, which, after forming the balls, becomes dense and elastic, and will gradually dissolve in water.
Fishing technique
Silver carp fishing is characterized by unpredictability, similar to sea fishing. An excellent catch in such fishing is often replaced by disappointment and a long rest.
On technoplankton
The method of fishing for technoplankton is unique. Bare hooks are located above the barrel of food. All this is kept afloat thanks to the foam shells placed on the barrel and the base of the hooks. The bait dissolves in water, forming a nutritious turbidity, in which the hooks are invisible. Unaware of the trick, silver carp swallow these muddy areas along with the hooks.
The secret of technoplankton fishing technique lies in the correct preparation of the bait. It should dissolve in water neither too quickly nor very slowly, creating an opaque cloudy cloud that can remain in one place for quite a long time. Fishing for technoplankton does not depend on the season, except for the winter months.
Catching the “killer” silver carp
If there is a lot of food around the hooks, then the probability of catching silver carp is significant. The essence of this tackle is its ability to hold hooks and floating food around them in one place. This function is assigned to a sliding sinker and a loose float. In this assembly, the tackle is held relative to the load and the rod when casting.
The weight acts as an anchor at the bottom, pulling the line with the feeder and hooks to a certain depth. The angler can adjust the immersion level by setting the desired length of fishing line from the feeder to the float.
For bottom tackle
Bottom fishing usually promises big catches. It's all about fishing technique. It is not only difficult to pull large fish ashore, but also to pull them towards you. It is better to fish with bottom tackle away from aquatic vegetation. When pulled up, the fish moves to the sides, and if it swims into the seaweed, then all attempts to pull it out will be doomed to failure.
A large silver carp can be pulled to the shore only if its strength is already at its limit and it is almost exhausted. Thus, bottom fishing for large trophies takes half an hour or more. At the same time, you need to remember that large individuals cannot be pulled onto land; This is a strong fish, and its sharp jerk can easily injure the fisherman. To get silver carp out of the water, you need to prepare a hook or an appropriately sized landing net in advance.
On the float
One feature of silver carp fishing using a float can be highlighted. When the float antenna has just begun to move under the surface, it is important to pause for 3 seconds , and only then, without jerking, make a soft hook, lifting the rod vertically. Due to the peculiarities of the behavior of this fish, silver carp, frightened by something wrong, make jerks themselves. If you rush to hook, the fish in most cases breaks away.
A sharp jerk with the rod can also cause the tackle to break if a large specimen is caught. Here it is worth recalling that when going fishing for silver carp, it is not advisable to take with you gear with a fishing line at least 0.4 mm thick.
On a spring
The spring fishing technique is not much different from other described types of fishing. The spring is a feeder twisted in the shape of a diamond; technoplankton is placed in it. Leashes with hooks are attached to the ends of the spring trempel. The loaded spring creates a cloud of pseudoplankton that hides the hooks. Tackle with springs is best suited if you plan to catch silver carp not deep from the surface.
How to catch silver carp and carp using technical plankton - from equipment to the fishing process
You can catch silver carp, carp and carp using a simple float rig or a donk, the features of the equipment do not differ much. For proper equipment you will need the following:
- The fishing rod must have sufficient strength, since technical plankton usually attracts powerful and strong fish. If there is a targeted catch of trophy specimens, then you need to take into account that they can weigh more than 40 kg, so the equipment must withstand this load. The length of the fishing rod is selected for each specific case and will depend on the characteristics of fishing; as a rule, rods in the range of 3.3-3.9 meters are used.
Powerful silver carp fish - The float is made of polystyrene foam; it is excellent if it is equipped with a feeder tube, which plays the role of an anti-twist.
- Reel Same choose power, it is best to purchase a size of 3000-3500; at least 200 meters of main line with a cross-section of 0.28-0.35 mm should be placed on the spool. In this case, there must be a baitrunner and a clutch on the reel.
- Number hooks will depend on the possible size of the intended fish; most often they choose No. 6-10.
- Weight You can use a blind or sliding one, it is attached to the main fishing line or directly to the nozzle. The weight must be chosen taking into account the fishing conditions, as it depends on the depth, but most often this parameter varies between 50-120 grams.
- Trempel – this is a special design that is absolutely necessary to have when fishing for technoplankton equipment. This is a triangle-shaped device made of high-strength plastic or steel wire. The trempel is equipped with a pin into which technoplankton is put – the only working bait. The design has special ears, which are intended for attaching the main fishing line and leashes with hooks.

Float tackle for technoplankton fishing
Catching silver carp using technoplankton in summer - video from the shore:
The fishing method is simple if the equipment is assembled correctly. The prepared tackle is thrown into the fishing spot, the fishing rod is placed on the stand. The bite is monitored by a float (when fishing with a float rod), the tip on the fishing rod (for a feeder), and a bite alarm (when using a donkey).
Technoplankton can gradually dissolve in water for up to three hours. When a fish approaches the muddy cloud formed by the bait and actively sucks it in, it will definitely swallow the baited hook. The fisherman only needs to make the hook in time.
The use of float equipment is advisable in cases where silver carp feeds in the middle water horizon or in shallow water. This is mainly observed at night, although in some cases the fish go up during the day.
Fishing for silver carp, like carp, should not be rushed. It must first be tired, and only then brought to the shore. Large fish may not fit in the landing net, so you must take a hook with you when fishing.
Some useful tips
Silver carp is an overly cautious and timid fish, and often, if you fail to cope with one individual, you can ruin the whole fishing trip; the flock will simply go elsewhere. It is recommended to maintain extreme silence and use camouflage.
It is not advisable to collect gear with a main line with a diameter of less than 0.3 mm. To fish out silver carp, you should prepare a small hook and a landing net with a handle commensurate in length with the rod.
To ensure successful fishing on the river, you need to take care of protecting your gear from the influence of the current; A sliding sinker helps with this.
There is heavy and light bait. Heavy food creates a denser cloud of turbidity, light food provides additional attractiveness.
The catchability does not depend on the type of gear; both float and bottom ones have their advantages and disadvantages. It all depends on the living conditions of the fish in a certain place.
