Each country has its own characteristics due to tradition, culture, religion, climate or some other reasons. Many already know the unique way of life of the inhabitants of eastern countries and are not surprised by them. And yet we never cease to be surprised! Here, for example, is a minor nuance from the life of Japanese schoolchildren. It turned out that in Japan the vast majority of female students are prohibited from wearing tights.
Japanese schoolgirl uniform
Today's Russian schoolchildren know about the strict requirements for school uniforms only from stories. Today, educational institutions more often set requirements for appearance and less often dictate what exactly the student should wear.
But in Japan they did not abandon the compulsory school uniform for all.
In warm weather
The traditional form includes several basic things .
- skirt . According to the rules, it should be up to the knee. In high school, a length a few centimeters shorter is allowed.
- With a skirt they wear a blouse and a jacket with the emblem of their educational institution .
- Some schools have knee socks .
- Shoes with flat soles or small heels. High heels are not allowed in class.
In cold weather
Although winters in Japan are not as severe as in our latitudes, snow and sub-zero temperatures are familiar to the Japanese. But even in cold weather, Japanese schoolgirls are prohibited from wearing tights under their skirts .
Important! A girl has the right to warm herself with a knitted sweater. Some people wear short shorts under their skirts to better protect themselves from the cold and wind. You can wear long knee-high socks and warm socks, but only with the permission of the school administration.
In recent years, the management of many schools has been meeting the needs of children. As an option for a school uniform, on special occasions they are allowed to wear tights or even trousers, a warm sweater or vest. But this practice is not yet widespread.
Tamaka Ogawa. Sexual assault of schoolgirls is common on public transport in Japan
Tamaka Ogawa was about 10 years old when she was first sexually assaulted. It was a public holiday and she was on a crowded subway. The man standing behind her lowered her tights and underwear, touched her bare bottom and pressed himself against her. She remembers feeling shocked and in physical pain. When she got home, she cleaned the area where he'd been pressed against her a few times, though she was careful not to spend too long in the toilet in case her family noticed something was wrong.

A short time later, on her first day of high school, she was groped on her way home. After this, groping and sexual assault by men became commonplace. The scoundrels often touched, stroked, and put their hands in her underwear when she walked to or from school in her uniform. Each time she ran away, not knowing what to do.
Why are young children in Japan so independent?
“I thought of myself as a child,” she reflects. “I couldn’t understand that adults got excited by touching me.” “Many girls told me that they saw a man’s hands under their skirt and lustful fingers in their vagina.”
She thought it would be rude to express anger towards an adult and was worried about drawing attention to herself. Besides, her parents never talked to her about these things and how she should deal with them.
She remembers one incident particularly clearly. She was about 15 and on her way to school. The man began to touch her, putting his hand into her underwear. She remembers that he was aggressive and it hurt. When the train stopped, she got off. The molester followed her, grabbed her hand and said, “Follow me.” Ogawa was able to break free and run away. She believes that people saw what was happening, but no one helped.

She says she was scared and ashamed.
“He seemed to think I was happy with what he did,” the 36-year-old reflects.
“When I was in high school, every [girl] was a victim,” Ogawa says. "[We] didn't think we could do anything about it."
Today, Ogawa, a writer and co-founder of Press Labo, a small digital content company in the central Tokyo ward of Shimokitazawa, writes frequently about issues of gender inequality and sexual violence in Japan.
It wasn't until she started writing about these crimes, the woman marvels, that she discovered what she had experienced was sexual assault. “What shocked me the most was that I didn’t realize I was being indecently attacked,” Ogawa says.
In 2015, she began writing about the country's long-standing problem with perverted Chicanas, whom schoolgirls encounter on public transportation. Many victims remain silent, unable to speak about their experiences in a society that, by many accounts, simplifies, hides and encourages this phenomenon.
From 12 to 18. A Japanese woman publishes a book about how she was groped in the subway on the way to school.
Ogawa believes that a collective understanding of what actually happens on public transport is critical. But for this to happen, more victims must come forward. “I think if women don't talk about what's going on, don't protect their daughters, it will always be invisible,” she says.
But over the past two years, that has begun to change as more people speak out against it.

Reasons for banning tights for schoolgirls
It cannot be said that things are calm with the established ban. From time to time, parents raise the question of the possibility of wearing tights at least in cold weather. But so far the uniform for students has not changed.
There are several reasons for this ban.
Preserving traditions
The Japanese are faithful to their cultural heritage and strive to respect traditions. Not only the parents of current students, but also several generations of ancestors went to school in this uniform. They all endured freezing weather, as modern Japanese do today. Such loyalty to ancestors strengthens the nation, residents of the Land of the Rising Sun are sure. And this only benefits young people.
Hardening
Japanese houses do not have central heating.
Reference! Only in one, the coldest part of the country - on the island of Hokkaido - is there central heating. There is no such system in other regions of Japan.
The Japanese have to toughen up. The country does not warm homes to excessively comfortable temperatures. The habit of tolerating low temperatures is formed from childhood. And the absence of tights has become one of the elements of the health system. It must be said that students without tights, even in winter photos, do not look suffering from the cold.
Positive impact on learning activities
There is another reason. This approach is believed to stimulate children's learning activities .
The cold does not allow you to relax and be distracted from your activities. Blood circulates through deep blood vessels, better nourishing the brain. The Japanese are sure that because of this, children’s thought processes go faster, and their academic performance does not fall.
Reference! In Japan, similar incentives are often practiced. Many schools even specially install hard chairs so that nothing distracts students from the lesson.
Schools in Japan have a ridiculous reason for banning freezing girls from wearing tights.
Mom suspects the staff might just be a bunch of perverts..
When it gets cold in Japan, common sense says that wearing warm clothes is the way to go. Of course, if your school requires you to wear a uniform, you have no choice as to what the main components of your child's outfit will be. True, one Japanese mother (@hanacoppy) once decided that she could at least protect her daughter (of unknown age) from the cold a little better by allowing her to wear tights under her uniform skirt when she went to school .
Comparison of Japanese girls' school uniforms. Cities and years
By the way, there is no heating in Japanese schools. In recreational areas there are local heating points where children can warm their hands during breaks.
The administration at the school, however, did not agree with this unauthorized addition .
履いて学校に行かせたら、「足が暖???女児にナマ足出させて喜ぶタイプの変態かな。
“My daughter said her feet were cold, so I let her wear tights under her skirt. But when she came to school, they told her: “Tights are not allowed because if your legs are warm, you won’t be able to concentrate.”
I can’t help but think that they are perverts who love the sight of young girls’ bare legs.”
One of the obvious reasons why schools need uniforms is to help students concentrate.
There is no need to waste mental energy deciding what to wear or comparing your clothes to those of your classmates. One can now hope that their young minds will be able to fully focus on the vital educational content that their teachers and textbooks present !
However, the stubborn mum claims the school's tights policy is completely backward and outlandish in terms of helping children learn. “In my entire life, I can’t remember ever being able to concentrate while I was thinking, ‘My feet are cold,’” the frustrated mom said. "Haven't the administrators ever heard of tsukan sokunetsu?" she continued, referencing a common Japanese idea that literally translates to "cool head, warm feet" and believes it's the healthiest combination to keep your body toned.

Other Twitter users were quick to poke holes in the school's logic:
- “Okay, then boys will have to wear skirts too, right? And of course teachers need to concentrate while they teach, so they all need to wear skirts too.”
- “And naturally, everyone who works in the school administrative office wears shorts to work, right?”
- “I completely agree with the school! I have never heard anything like this, what a pleasure it is to look at bare legs! And of course your concentration decreases if you are too hot!”
- "I've heard rumors of sane schools in Japan that don't control every aspect of their students to the extreme."
- “Just wear bike shorts under your skirt.”
- “Schools are told what temperature they can set their heaters to by the board of education. Teachers can't decide."
- “Plus classrooms always leave their windows slightly open when the heater is on, regardless of whether it's snowing or freezing outside. The heaters either stink of kerosene or dry out the air.”
- “I guess when your child gets a cold, you can send the doctor's bill to the school, as well as a bill for lost wages from the day you took the day off to take care of her. Oh, and they must also give you a written promise that any day your daughter misses will not count toward her perfect attendance.”
- “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”
This last comment definitely hits the mark. However, there is also a saying in Japanese: "Baka ni tsukere kusuri ha nai", "There is no medicine that cures stupidity . This appears to be the case at @hanacoppy's daughter's school.

Tights are not the only prohibition for schoolchildren
In Japan, tights are not the only prohibition for young fashionistas getting an education.
- Jackets with short sleeves, from under which the shirt cuff is visible, are not welcome.
- Long skirts are possible in lower grades. A high school student must wear a short skirt.
- Bright jackets are unusual for Japanese students. The colors of their outerwear are dark: black, dark gray, dark blue.
A pregnant schoolgirl shows sex with her child’s ten-year-old father on social media
Dasha Sudnishnikova
Seventh-grader Dasha and fourth-grader Ivan continue their romantic relationship, despite the scandal that has broken out. Recently, a photo appeared on the Internet in which a couple merges in a passionate kiss. The girl’s fan page also published screenshots of an Instagram live broadcast, where schoolchildren show subscribers their tender feelings for each other.
Many condemned the unchildish shots of young lovers, accusing them of simply wanting to attract public attention. “Yes, they want to become famous,” users are indignant. Others reproach parents who do not monitor the actions of their offspring: “I would scold my daughter for this.”
Students are not shy about showing passion
Let us remember that Dasha’s mother was shocked by her daughter’s early pregnancy, but allowed her to keep the baby. Vanya’s parent also accepted the current situation and offered support to her minor “daughter-in-law.”

However, some doubt that a ten-year-old boy could even become a father, although the children confirmed the existence of an intimate relationship between them. “We took the analysis to our laboratory three times, there shouldn’t be any mistakes. The luteinizing hormone in the child has just started, the follicles that stimulate the hormone are under pressure, there cannot be sperm. According to the results, he is still a child. He doesn't even have testosterone yet. Puberty will not come soon,” concluded urologist-andrologist Evgeniy Grekov.
The kids started dating last February
While future parents are waiting for the opportunity to conduct a genetic analysis that will dot all the i’s. There is a version that the baby’s father may also be a third party. They say that for some reason the girl may be hiding the identity of her supposed adult beau.
Dasha herself denies the existence of someone else. According to the seventh-grader, she loves Vanya very much, so she is faithful only to him. “I wanted to be with him all the time,” she says of the early days of their special “friendship.” “I knew that he had gastritis, forbade him to drink soda, and took care of his health. At minus 30 he could go out in thin pants, but I wouldn’t let him out until he was warm enough to dress. Vanya also took care of me. For example, when I was worried about my weight, he said that I was the best. And when I painted my eyebrows, I was beautiful without makeup. I always call him my sweetie pie.”
