Expocentre how to get there by metro

The central exhibition complex Expocentre in Moscow is one of the largest venues for international events in Europe. Became the first Russian member of the World Association of the Exhibition Industry back in 1975, and is also a member of almost all such large global associations. The company is the successor to the activities of a Soviet organization, so its history spans 60 years of experience.

The first exhibition was held in 1959. It was dedicated to US industrial products and installed in Sokolniki Park. The opening was carried out by R. Nixon and N. S. Khrushchev. Then the same programs were launched for European countries. Among the ongoing projects, one can highlight Stroydormash in 1964, when 20 countries and 377 were represented, which gave the first award to the organizers. In 1977, the first own pavilion was created. In the 1980s, the construction of halls on Krasnopresnenskaya began. By 2007, the eighth pavilion was commissioned.

Story

Expocentre was created in 1959 on the basis of the USSR Directorate of International Exhibitions. Initially, the company was engaged in organizing exhibitions on the territory of Sokolniki Park. The exhibitions were extremely popular among Muscovites and guests of the capital, as they provided an opportunity to get acquainted with the achievements of Western industry: American, Romanian, Bulgarian, Polish, Czechoslovakian, etc.

In 1970, it was decided to expand the exhibition space, and therefore Expocenter was moved to the Krasnopresnensky district of the capital. In 1978, the construction of modern pavilions was completed, after which the first exhibition was held here.

In 1980, architects M.V. Posokhin, N.E. Schröter and L.G. Kotov was built on the territory of the Expo, which in appearance resembles an Egyptian pyramid. The most recent pavilion (No. 7) was erected in 2000.

Over the several decades of its existence, Expocentre has held many exhibitions. One of the activities of the institution was art: the Central Exhibition Complex housed a unique collection of paintings by the Itinerant artists of the 19th century. In 2013, the paintings were transferred to the Moscow State University Museum.

Nowadays, Expocentre is a member of the elite World Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI). The company organizes exhibitions under the patronage of the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the largest domestic and international manufacturing companies, publishing houses, and business associations.

The annual exhibitions “Healthcare”, “Communication”, “Footwear”, “World of Childhood”, “Healthy Lifestyle”, “Electro”, “Advertising”, “Photonics”, etc. have gained enormous popularity.

The highest quality of services during exhibitions, congresses and forums allowed Expocentre to join the international specialized organizations IFES and EMESA.

Every year, the Expocenter on Krasnaya Presnya hosts more than 100 international exhibitions and fairs, about 600 congresses and scientific conferences.

Temple of Seraphim of Sarov

In 2010, the complex of Expocentre buildings was replenished with the Temple of Seraphim of Sarov, which became an unusual addition to the architectural ensemble. The construction was blessed by Patriarch Kirill and Metropolitan Barsanuphius of Saransk and Mordovia.

Architects V.I. Kozlov and E.Yu. Ogorodov created an original building with a trifolium roof in the style of ancient Moscow architecture. A small belfry is located above the western porch of the church.

In 2013, a particle of the relics of the great Orthodox saint of the 4th century was transferred to the church. Ambrose of Milan. Another most valuable shrine of the temple is the icon with the relics of St. Seraphim of Sarov.
