I went out as usual in the evening, having rested a little after work, for a walk along the river with a spinning rod. Left at about 20.00. I walked along the part of it that adjoins the city limits. The water in the river has noticeably increased compared to the last time I was there. There were several bites, one even showed a fish accompanying and grabbing at the shore at the last moment. But not fate. I went home at 00.15! Mosquitoes and midges have also noticeably decreased.

Kovashi River fish species

Thanks for the advice.
very useful, I think I’ll become a fisherman))))) I think it’s closer to going to Kovashi than to Kopanskoye. There are a lot of vacationers in Kopansky, so there is not enough space. and once I was there and saw a poster like: “The lake is stocked with fish, call us on the phone regarding fishing. " what does it mean? About Kovashi I liked the phrase “The bite is constant”, maybe I should go there? Just in case, I ask for a more precise location in Kopansky and Kovashi. I can pm you as convenient as I can, maybe I’ll try there and there. It’s a bit far to goravaldai.

What about rivers?

There are no vacationers on the Kopansky pier; they are all in the forests. So there should be enough space there. About the posters: the lake was leased to some people for 49 years. They allegedly carried out a stocking (which is not noticeable from the catches and species composition; the lake is large and seriously stocking it with fish is another problem) and are asking for some money for fishing. Personally, they never approached me, but I know people who simply sent money and didn’t give me any money. The Salyut dispensary is located on the northern shore of the lake. Drive along the A121

The black arrow points to the place of the exit to Salyut (there is a big sell-out - you can’t miss it), the red arrow points to the pier itself. Turn to the fireworks, drive into the area past the barrier (there is a brick there, but everyone is driving), park the car on the site and you can see the pier directly opposite the entrance.

Everything seems clear in the picture. Turn off the asphalt at the end of the village (closer to Sosnovy Bor) opposite the bus stop, gravel road, over the bridge over Kovash, a section of slab road, at the end of which (don’t turn left!) there is an area near a small pond, marked in red (there are crucian carp, biting) . You can climb up the shaft and see a large pond. There will be fishermen and cars there, so you'll figure it out on the spot. You can drive along the embankment to find the best spots.

About rivers. Now it’s difficult to catch anything on them other than bleak, but if you want, try it. Highway H148 in front of Sosonov Bor runs along the bank of Kovash, so you don’t have to go far.

Free fishing

Although in the region of lakes and rivers there are more and more organized recreation areas and tourist centers over the years, free fishing in Karelia in 2021 and 2022 is also the case.

For those who don’t want to spend a long time on trains, Lake Mashezero . It is located 28 kilometers from Petrozavodsk, which is about half an hour of leisurely driving or an hour by commuter bus. Mashezero has a convenient coastline and quite impressive fish stocks. True, the species diversity here leaves much to be desired. There are pike, perch, ruffe and roach, but for a weekend trip this is just the thing.

A little further, an hour by car and two hours by bus from Petrozavodsk, there is a reservoir with the beautiful name Svyatozero . Here you can successfully fish for vendace, bream, roach and bleak. And if you’re lucky, catch a trophy pike or burbot. Please note: in Svyatozero there is a small red-listed sculpin fish. You can’t catch it, and if it accidentally gets caught on the hook, you need to carefully remove it and let it go.

To the north of Petrozavodsk there is a whole cascade of beautiful and fish lakes. The most impressive and catchable among them is Konchozero , about 47 kilometers from Petrozavodsk. About twenty species of fish live here, including ide, ruffe, rudd and grayling. To fish on Konchozero, you need to first remember several important rules. Firstly, the fish here are very sensitive to the weather, which means that on hot days and days of stormy winds there will definitely not be a bite. Secondly, the central and northern parts of the lake are considered more catchable, while the southern, western and eastern parts are poor in fish. Thirdly, for fishing on Konchozero it is advisable to purchase a boat, because the fish here are kept at great depths away from the shores.

In the Kondopoga region of the republic lies Palyeozero , a large body of water inhabited by more than twenty species of fish, including pike perch, roach, bream and perch. Palyeozero differs from most other bodies of water in that it is relatively easy to find a good parking spot: a picturesque forest road runs along the western coast, and the P-21 highway runs along the eastern coast. It is better to fish from a boat. Near the shore, the depths are shallow, and sandbanks are often found.

Those who like long trips are advised to pay attention to Segozero , the third largest (after Ladoga and Onega) lake in Karelia. It is located 250 kilometers northwest of Petrozavodsk and can only be comfortably reached by car; there is no direct bus or train service. The hardships of the journey are more than compensated by the rich catch. There are 18 species of fish in Segozero - from small fish like ruffes and gobies to large pikes, burbots, breams and graylings. There are few populated areas on the shores of this gigantic body of water, and the fish are not spoiled. The most catchy places are located along the northern coast, but this is already an option for extreme sports enthusiasts: there are no good roads there, so a significant part of the path to a suitable parking lot will have to be covered on foot.
