Lake Atkul

Itkul - lake in the Chelyabinsk region

In another article, we discussed holidays on Kandykul, a lake with rich aquatic fauna in Bashkortostan.

What can you tell about Lake Itkul?

The lake is the largest and cleanest freshwater mountain taiga reservoir in the Republic of Khakassia. This is one of the famous Shirinsky lakes, known far beyond the borders of the republic. Many reservoirs in this region are rich in mineral salts, which is used by the health centers located here.

Itkul is called the “pearl of Khakassia” and it plays the main health-improving role in the republic.

Lake water is used by residents of the village of Zhemchuzhny and the Lake Shira resort. The content of hydrocarbonate-calcium mineral salts in the lake is approximately 1.67 g in one liter of its water.

The shape of the lake resembles an oval, stretching 7 kilometers from the north to the south. Its length from west to east is 5 km.

The famous reservoir of Khakassia is distinguished by its depth. On average it is about 8 meters , the maximum depth mark corresponds to 16.5 meters.

The clean transparent lake is surrounded by pine and birch forests. Many small tributary rivers flow into the lake. The Itkul source is a stream flowing from the lake. A small dam regulates the flow of water from the lake.

Initially, about 40 sedge poplars grew around the dam, strengthening the dam; today, two sedge poplars remain, the age of which corresponds to two centuries.

Small picturesque mountains complement the beauty of the landscape surrounding the lake.

The shores of Lake Itkul consist of sand and pebbles of different colors; in this beautiful scattering there are red, brown, purple crystals of the garnet mineral.

The status of a reserve made it possible to preserve the fauna of Khakassia.

Many species of animals are listed in the Red Book of the Chelyabinsk region:

  • The white-tailed eagle is a large bird of prey of the hawk family with a wingspan of approximately 2.5 meters. The bird's body length is about one meter;
  • European black-throated loon , a subspecies of the black-throated loon with purple and violet iridescent feathers on the throat and front of the neck;
  • dragonfly from the family “beauty” or dark-winged beauty, beauty-girl;
  • A dragonfly from the “beauty” family is a brilliant beauty . The male has a shiny body with a metallic blue tint and dark blue bands on the outer side of the wings;
  • willow moth or large willow iris, day butterfly. The male has a wingspan of up to 80 cm.

Itkul is a unique hydrological natural monument. The lake received this status in the eighties of the last century. The ten-meter, free-standing rock Shaitan-stone has the same status.

There is a lot of fish, but it is not for everyone

Fishing captivates many people. Not only beach lovers come to the lake. Fishing lovers are attracted here by its abundance and diversity. Only six reservoirs are considered promising for amateur and sport fishing, including Lake Itkul.

Two Turkic words “it” and “kul”, from which the name of the unique reservoir was born, justify this name to this day.

However, the policies of recent years have also affected the unique places of the Chelyabinsk region. Lake Itkul has lost huge stocks of fish. Since 2013, government measures have once again revived the lake's reputation as a meat lake. It has become available for fishing by fishing enthusiasts.

Lake Itkul, Chelyabinsk region – fishing reviews

Year-round fishing evokes many positive emotions among fishermen who enjoy winter fishing. What was most pleasing was the amount of fish, even for beginners.

Fisherman Ivan talks about winter fishing on a winter day, with gusty winds and precipitation in the form of wet snow, near the village of Dautovo. Air temperature +3 O.

The weather did not become an obstacle to the arrangement of promising holes 250 meters from the shore. The depth in this place is approximately 3 meters. I drilled six holes and fed them differently. The best bite was in the holes with raspberries and jigs. In eight hours, from 10 am to 5 pm, the catch amounted to about 3 kilograms of perch and pipefish .

A friend was fishing from the shore, but he had no catch at all.

By evening, the bite became less, but did not stop completely, the fish went for a golden jig with a white cambric bait with several bloodworms.

The author of the following review said that he caught good perches with a spinning rod, but only up to the border of the security zone, which was controlled by a police squad.

I left my review on the website lushkoff.serg, for which Lake Itkul became the next fishing spot. He and his friends came to the lake by car. We drilled several holes, moving away from the shore towards the middle of the reservoir. There was no bite. After walking about one and a half kilometers, we drilled holes, set up a tent and finally waited for the bite.

A minnow was biting, which we managed to hook with difficulty; as it turned out, the reason for this was the hook of the jig, which was too large for a minnow. We caught fish, breathed in fresh air, and were satisfied with fishing in Itkul!

Reviews

  • Vladislav

We arrived at the lake around 5 am. The weather was typical for early morning, cool, friends were sitting on each other’s heads, but somehow they squeezed onto the boat and cast their fishing rods on a worm and maggots with corn. For maggots I caught 2 times in a row for worms to no avail, in the end I gave preference to maggots with corn and fished only with them.

I fished until 14:00, the result: a total of 43 fish, but mostly small fish and 12 large ones. Please note that it is impossible to fight off the little things; neither corn, nor a large hook, nor waterlogged bait helped. Conclusion: there is little point in fishing professionally, but with children it’s the same thing; fishing yourself will be a joy for the child.

  • Maksim

I decided to teach my youngest son to fish and went with him to Lake Myrkai, because I know that most often small fish are caught there. And just right for a child to practice. As a result, the child is happy, loves fishing and asks me every day when we will go fishing again. So, the lake is ideal for family time!

How can I get to?

You can get to the lake as follows: the distance from Chelyabinsk is 60 km . We are driving along the Kurgan tract. We pass the villages of Petrovsky and Vakhrushevo, turn into the village of Miasskoye, before it we turn left in the direction of Shadrinsk, after 10 km there will be Lake Myrkai.

Recreation centers

Many tourists coming to the lake can stay at any recreation center. Such cozy comfortable bases can be found along the entire coast of Itkul . They are perfect for families with children and groups of young people.

Vacationers are offered double and triple rooms with the ability to prepare food in modern kitchens.

There are cafes, buffets and restaurants at tourist centers.

How to catch more fish?

I have been active fishing for quite some time and have found many ways to improve the bite. And here are the most effective:

  1. Bite activator. Attracts fish in cold and warm water with the help of pheromones included in the composition and stimulates its appetite. It’s a pity that Rosprirodnadzor wants to impose a ban on its sale.
  2. More sensitive gear. Reviews and instructions for other types of gear can be found on the pages of my website.
  3. Lures using pheromones.

How long has it been since you had a really BIG CATCH?

When was the last time you caught dozens of HUGE pike/carp/bream?

We always want to get results from fishing - to catch not three perch, but ten kilogram pikes - what a catch! Each of us dreams of this, but not everyone can do it.

A good catch can be achieved (and we know this) thanks to good bait.

It can be prepared at home or bought in fishing stores. But stores are expensive, and to prepare bait at home, you need to spend a lot of time, and, to be fair, homemade bait does not always work well.

You know that disappointment when you buy bait or prepare it at home and only catch three or four bass?

So maybe it’s time to use a truly working product, the effectiveness of which has been proven both scientifically and in practice on the rivers and ponds of Russia?

Of course, it is better to try once than to hear a thousand times. Moreover, now is the season! A 50% discount on your order is a great bonus!

Lake Atkul

The fifth alphabetical destination of the “Great Fishing Trek through the Urals” was Lake Atkul. The reservoir, famous for its carp, is located in the Etkul district of the Chelyabinsk region. This is where we go with our bread, boats and fishing rods.

Lake Atkul: geography

Lake Atkul borders the village of the same name from the southwest. Through a system of channels it communicates with Lake Selezyan. The total area of the water surface is 13 km 2, while the depths here are small. The maximum bottom elevation is 5 m, and the average is exactly 2 times less. At the same time, Lake Atkul is gaining depth very slowly. The reservoir has an oblong shape with a total width of 2.2 km. The length is 6 km. During the summer, Atkul heats up completely, and at the bottom the temperature often reaches 20°.

Road to Atkul

The distance Chelyabinsk-Atkul is 55 km. We leave the capital of the Southern Urals along the Trinity Highway. After the traffic police checkpoint we drive about 10 kilometers and see a road junction leading to Etkul. Along it, after 18 kilometers we arrive at the indicated settlement. True, you will have to turn off before entering the village: before a large forest area we take a left. Then we go straight, passing Pechenkino, Zhuravlevo and Selezyan. Without entering the last village, we turn the steering wheel to the right, and after 5 kilometers we see Lake Atkul.
