Fishing on the rivers
Among the rivers of Magnitogorsk and its environs, the most popular among fishing enthusiasts are the Ural, Maly Kizil, and Gumbeyka. Ural River This river is the largest and deepest watercourse in Magnitogorsk and its environs. Having a total length of 2428 km and flowing within the city limits, it is rich in various species of fish - from common carp (bream, roach, chub, crucian carp, silver bream) to predators such as perch, pike perch, pike, catfish. Small Kizil River This mountain river, which is a right tributary of the Urals, has a length of only 133 km. Having a narrow winding channel with a steep left bank, a rocky bottom and shallow depth, it is quite rich in various species of fish - pike, perch, large chub, and minnows are caught in the river. The most popular gear on Maly Kizil is a float fishing rod, spinning rod, and donka (zakiduha). Thanks to its fairly fast flow and shallow depths, the river does not freeze even in winter, which allows you to fish on it all year round. Among the baits used for float and bottom fishing, the most preferred baits are maggots, worms, bunches of large bloodworms, and bark beetles. To catch a predator, small live bait is used as bait - bleak, crucian carp.
Gumbeyka River Gumbeyka is a flat steppe river with a length of 202 km, which is a left tributary of the Urals. Flowing east of Magnitogorsk, it has a narrow channel (from 20-25 meters in the upper reaches to 45 meters at the confluence with the Urals), a low speed of water flow and an average depth of 2.5 meters. Gumbeyka, which often dries up in the summer, is quite rich in fish - it contains large quantities of small and medium-sized perch, medium-sized rotan, pike, a lot of ruff, silver crucian carp, chub, and bream. The main object of recreational fishing on this river is pike. Moreover, the weight of caught river predators rarely exceeds one kilogram.
Gumbeyka is a typical steppe river, which dries up greatly during the hot summer months. During freeze-up, fishing on the river does not stop: at this time they catch pike very well at stakes, as well as small perch, bream and chub using a jig and float winter tackle. Also, in the upper and middle reaches of the river there are still crayfish, which are caught by hand or with crayfish in the coastal snags.
