Twister equipment and color
If I use a vibrating tail on various types of equipment, then first of all I prescribe a hinge for the twister.
This may be a misconception, but it seems that the twister plays more interestingly on a mobile connection. The double fits quite “comfortably” into the thick body of a large twister, and before inserting, I spread the hooks a little. For my clients, I choose the largest hooks of size 5/0 or slightly smaller ones, but with a long shank. You can use any Cheburashka weight without fear that the ears located in the same axis will force the twister to move sideways. Maybe for a vibrotail the plane of the position of the bait during retrieving has some significance, which, however, is also not a fact, but for a twister there is definitely no difference. I think the same can be said about the position of the tail when placing the bait on the hook.
There is an opinion that when the tail of the twister looks down, when retrieving it, it will touch the bottom and raise mud from it, which attracts a predator. The opinion is controversial, and personally, when attaching a classic twister, I usually do not pay attention to the location of the tail, but out of habit, more often than not it ends up on top.
I sometimes use a twister rig with an offset hook when fishing in “strong” places, but with such a non-hooking option, the number of bites suffers. The tail of a large twister is quite thick and hard, so the sting of the offset fish does not come out high from the body of the twister when biting, and for this reason it is not always possible to reliably cut through the fish. If fishing conditions force you to use an offset hook, then choose hooks with a wide bend.
Despite the fact that my friends and I most often choose a swivel weight-Cheburashka joint and a double hook as the main equipment for fishing with twisters, sometimes the current situation forces us to resort to another option. There were cases where, due to the peculiarities of the bite, the pike was poorly caught on a moving double. The bites were barely noticeable, and after hooking and several jerks the pike left. Sometimes this happens when fishing for pike perch - sharp, strong blows do not lead to reliable detection of fish. In these cases, it is worth trying the simplest equipment option - on a jig head. Perhaps a blind connection between the hook and the weight will correct the situation.
The comparison of a twister with a worm, which I cited at the beginning of the article and which suggests itself purely externally, forced the first time and the colors of the bait to use natural ones - to match the real worm. Until now, I consider the color called Natural worm according to the Lucky John classification to be the most workable and versatile. Although in essence it is also “motor oil” - when exposed to light it is more brown, but in water it is greenish.
Because of my love for red shades in the cold season, I also pay a lot of attention to them. But on some bodies of water, “bloody” twisters work poorly, so I can’t definitely recommend them in winter. Bright, glamorous lures attract not so much the fish as they attract me. The latest acquisition is a lilac pink with a bright fuchsia purple tail.
In addition, there were bites for orange, acid-light green, silver-yellow, pure white, etc. Specific predators also have personal preferences. For example, I only caught pike perch using the purple color. But I have already approached the main topic of this article - a review of the types of fish that can be caught with a large twister.
Color of vibrotails for perch fishing
One of the most favorite topics of conversation among spinning anglers is the color of vibrating tails for perch. Manufacturers take all these points into account and produce as many silicones as possible in different colors.
We can say that almost all vibrating tails work well in the summer. Take lilac, or light green or yellow with red or orange sides, and the perch will take all baits well.
Many spinning anglers complete perch sets for fishing in various bodies of water and at different times of the year. For example, when fishing in small enclosed waters, models of bright colors have proven themselves well: light green and bright yellow. They are clearly visible at a considerable distance even in muddy water, and the striped one quickly reacts to wiring with such vibrating tails.
When catching perch in the cold, pre-winter time, they use dim models. This is quite understandable. At this time, the water becomes clear and the bait of poisonous flowers rather repels the predator than attracts it.
These same baits are good for fishing in cloudy weather and warm weather. When fishing is carried out in clear water and clear weather, preference is given to swamp-colored baits and other dark vibrotails. The approach here is standard: the worse the visibility, the brighter the vibrotail should be.
Of course, this is not dogma and there are many exceptions, when in lakes with dark water and a black bottom the perch takes only brown and black baits. Therefore, it is better to have multi-colored vibrotails when fishing. Many anglers start fishing with proven and favorite baits, and if they don’t work, then they start experimenting.
TOP 7 vibrotails
All kinds of tops and other things are very conventional. We decided to provide you with a list of the most optimal baits based on catching such a predator as perch.
So, we present to your attention a small author’s “topic” of the best of the best when it comes to catching minke whales.
- Storm Wlpk05-Fpk is an inexpensive and high-quality product from the Finnish company Rapala Group. The bait fully deserves its place of honor and the title of one of the best vibrating tails that currently exist.
- The Bass Assassin Sea Shad Limetreuse Glow is an entertaining little thing made in America.
- Berkley Hollow Belly, PBHB6-GZS is another overseas guest who came to our wilderness straight from the United States of America. He sailed and immediately took an honorable place on our list.
- Kosadaka Silverado 90 FTR - this thing will never let its happy owner down due to its reliable quality, which you can rely on in almost any situation, even the most difficult.
- Rubicon Crazy Bait 8BLST-63-042 - for the little ones. The bait looks like a worm, which is why both large perches and those that are smaller, bolder and more numerous can bite on it. So be careful and careful when using this unit in your actions.
- Fanatik Boxer 3.5 is a Ukrainian “mortar” capable of “delivering to the base” more than a dozen large kilogram specimens. You should not be skeptical about the seemingly post-Soviet quality, here it is at its best, rest assured.
- Berkley PowerBait Drop Shot Minnow - looks most pleasing to the eye not only of the human viewer, but also of the underwater predator, which is the large humpback whale.
The best vibrating tails for pike perch
Lucky John Pro Series "Long John"190 (8 pcs.) The Long John vibrating tail from Lucky John is the most popular silicone bait among spinners in the world. The narrow body of the ripper wriggles very realistically in the water. Anglers called this model a zander killer. To seduce a fanged predator, you can use not only classic jig equipment, but also various options for retractable leashes with additional weight. Silicone is impregnated with a special attractant that has the smell of mackerel. One of 14 colors will help to finally provoke the pike perch. The vibrotail has a length of 79 mm, so small predators will not rush to the bait. The material is quite resistant to sharp fish fangs. The best universal vibrating tail for pike perch in our rating. Main advantages:
Minuses: not detected. | 9.9 / 10 Rating Reviews Recently I completely switched to fishing for pike perch using Long John soft baits. I fish most often on the river, depth 6-8 m. Thanks to its floating design, the bait is ideal for moving equipment with a double. |
Lucky John Pike Idol290 (5 pieces.) For catching large pike perch or pike, the soft fish Lucky John Pike Idol is suitable. The vibrating tail has an interesting play of the tail. For jig spinning, it is recommended to use models with a length of 90 and 120 mm in combination with movable equipment. The largest ripper with a length of 150 mm is in demand among trolling fans. A distinctive feature of the bait is its three-layer coating, which creates the illusion of fish scales. Along with its unique game, the vibrotail has an unusual bright color that attracts predators from afar, even in muddy water. Silicone is springy and soft, it is resistant to both the teeth of a predator and the tearing effect of a hook. Main advantages:
Minuses: not detected. | 9.9 / 10 Rating Reviews In my collection, the Pike Idol vibrator tails are in the most prominent place. They work on large zander and pike. Models with a length of 12 cm performed excellently when fishing with stepped wiring. |
MANN'S Predator 70410 (10 pieces.) The MANN'S Predator vibrating tail with a length of 70 mm is especially popular among autumn pike perch hunters. The best results are observed with stepwise wiring, which is done at differences in depth. The bait plays equally well both when mounted rigidly on a jig head, and in the case of movable equipment using a “Cheburashka” sinker. This is due to the exceptional elasticity of the material. When the ripper hangs for a long time in the water column, pike or large perch bites occur. High-quality silicone has a high degree of survivability. The best vibrating tail for autumn pike perch, and from a wide range of colors you can choose a catchy bait for any river or reservoir. Main advantages:
Minuses: fragility. | 9.9 / 10 Rating Reviews For Volga autumn pike perch, I consider MANN'S Predator 70 bait No. 1. It catches predators with heads of different weights well. When biting, pike perch often damage the ripper, but it can be easily repaired right on the pond. |
How to catch perch using vibrotails
Fishing for vibrotails is not particularly difficult. The main thing is to find a quiet place and enjoy the fishing process.
Vibrating tail wiring
For inexperienced spinning players, it would be more correct to use uniform wiring. It is important to correctly determine the fishing horizon by experimenting and continue fishing at this depth.
If there is no bite while retrieving, it is useful to make small jerks. As a result, the vibrotail will resemble a runaway fry. Such simple actions often bring results, forcing the striped fish to attack the bait.
Experienced fishermen prefer stepped fishing. The fishing horizon depends on the time of year. In warm water, it is more effective to make a step in the middle layer and above, and in the cold season - near the bottom.
For a passive predator, the method of dragging along the bottom works, but this requires a clean area of the bottom surface. Pauses, which can last up to a minute, have a positive effect on the bite.
Fishing Features
The nature of catching perch of different sizes is radically different. Small and medium-sized stripers need to be caught on a fast retrieve. They have strong food competition, as a result of which the predator loses caution and grabs without delay. The main thing is to get ahead of your relative.
Large perch, on the contrary, is a loner. To persuade him to bite you need to try hard. Lethargic action with lots of pauses is the best way to catch trophy bass.
The water temperature also significantly affects the bite. In warm water the metabolism is higher and the fish need to eat more often. In cold water, the need for food decreases, and the predator will think: try to catch up with small small prey or save energy.
Vibrating tail installation
It is better to choose a mounting method depending on the fishing conditions. In places where hooks are unlikely, mounting with a jig head is considered optimal. It is easier to install and detects the victim better.
The movable method of equipment is suitable for places where there is a high possibility of snagging. The “Cheburashka” sinker is equipped with an offset hook. The result is a hook-free bait. In it, the hook tip is pressed against the back of the bait, without clinging to underwater vegetation. The game of baits in this case looks more realistic.
Vibrotail is one of the most catchy baits for perch hunting. In combination with a jig, it works great, provoking it to bite.

Color of silicone lures
Often, perch ignores a seemingly mega-catchy and universal bait. The reason turns out to be trivial - the wrong color of the twister or vibrotail. The choice of tire color is determined by the following factors:
- Light level.
- Water transparency.
- Water temperature.
- Season.
- Fishing region.
- Other features of a particular reservoir.
Which bait color is best to choose in certain situations is shown in the table below:
Fishing conditions | Recommended bait color |
Clear water, good lighting | Dark colors: brown, dark green, dirty red, blue, purple. |
Muddy water, low light | Bright fluorescent colors: orange, light green, bright green, rich red or carrot, poisonous yellow and the like |
Cloudy, windless weather | White, pearlescent |
Twilight, low light, fishing in the upper horizons | Black, dark gray, brown |
Fishing in cold water – early spring, second half of autumn | Natural and dark colors. Lures with glitter work well. |
Winter spinning | Bright warm shades, blue, purple, black |
The information presented is not a rule. There are always exceptions, and fish love to present surprises to the angler. Therefore, it is advisable to have various colors in the kit, selecting them directly during the fishing process.
Subtleties of choice
Choosing silicone fish for pike is not at all problematic for an experienced spinning angler. He has long known all the intricacies and goes shopping purposefully, having reviewed his stock beforehand. It will be more difficult for a beginner to figure this out, because every store will offer a decent assortment of this bait. What should be the best tires for a predator, in particular for a pike, we will find out further based on the parameters.
When selecting fish, pay attention to the following indicators:
- size and shape;
- color;
- edible or not.
Based on these characteristics, the most successful ones are selected; now we will consider each of them in detail.
Size and shape
To choose the best of the best silicone lures for pike, first of all you need to decide on the shape. Soft baits come in a variety of shapes; according to experienced fishermen, preference should be given to:
- vibrotails;
- twisters;
- frogs;
- to worms.
Slugs will also work well; this concept includes options in the form of crustaceans and various insect larvae. In certain periods, models that visually closely resemble rodents will be in demand, but not everyone uses them, even experienced spinning anglers.

Ask a Question
A large, toothy predator can easily swallow a water rat or mouse that accidentally falls into the water. Noticing this, manufacturers began to produce baits of this appearance.
All of the above options will perfectly attract predators and, with proper wiring, I can activate even passive fish.
As for the size, it’s not worthwhile for the toothy resident of the reservoir to get smaller. As you know, it is capable of swallowing a fish 2/3 of its length without problems. Fishermen know that during the feeding period, post-spawning and autumn, large individuals will bite on silicone of a decent size, but small perch and other inhabitants of the reservoir will covet small ones.
In the fall, large baits of 12 cm or more are used, and in the spring, 8 cm will be quite enough.
Color
It is impossible to say for sure which color of silicone is best for pike; a lot depends on weather conditions and the quality of water in the reservoir chosen for fishing. It is better to present the subtleties of choosing a color in the form of a table:
color | under what conditions is it used? |
natural | will work in clean, clear water, both in reservoirs with standing water and with currents |
bright acidists | used in cloudy water immediately after the ice melts and until the water warms up |
Additionally, silicone for catching predators may contain a variety of sparkles and other inclusions in its body. Some manufacturers add fluorescent and light-accumulating elements when casting into the solution, which will subsequently work perfectly at decent depths or on cloudy days.
Edible or not
Edible rubber for pike went on sale relatively recently. It is distinguished from ordinary soft bait by a special impregnation, the smell of which is liked by predators. Silicone of this type comes in different sizes and shapes; it is used to catch not only the toothy resident of the reservoir, but also large-sized perch and pike perch.

I've been working hard in the fishing tackle department for the past six years. I can help you assemble almost any gear.
Ask a Question
Fishermen have noticed that peaceful fish of decent size often bite on edible versions of soft baits.
Knowing the size and color is not enough; to catch a trophy specimen of a predator, you must be able to choose based on the shape of the body.
Selection rules
To select the correct silicone head attachments, you should first of all pay attention to the hit parade of baits, compiled according to reviews from amateurs
TOP 10 best vibrating tails for pike
Based on popularity among fishermen, we can compile a list of leaders among vibrotails:
- The bait produced by domestic manufacturers specifically for Russian reservoirs, Crazy Fish Vibro Fat, perfectly catches pike in all weather conditions. Small cutouts in the body give the bait a special play when retrieved. Additionally, holes are made in the nozzle body into which individual parts are inserted to make the nozzle heavier.
- The pronounced abdominal part and elongated body make the behavior of the Relax Kopyto bait in water very attractive. An additional highlight, even with very slow retrieves, is provided by an additional fin in the tail.
- A large attachment that provides excellent catches with any type of fishing is the Vibro Worm 3.4. It begins to attract the predator immediately, when descending to depth. The plastic and very soft material allows you to display all the shades of the tail's play. The nozzles are treated with flavors of garlic and crustaceans. Contains amino acids and proteins.
- The realism of Fox Rage Fork Tails is ensured by the use of granular silicone in the production. The strong vibration of the tail, the plasticity of the material, the shape of the body of the bait - these qualities make even well-fed fish become active.
- The large fin in the tail of the Mann's Predator bait ensures active behavior of the vibrator in the water. The ease of hooking and high level of catchability allow it to be used on any body of water.
- Greedy edible silicone bait has a body shape slightly flattened in thickness. The large tail fin provides very attractive movements for pike. An incision is made in the body and an offset hook is inserted into it. It is especially good when fishing in snags and in places with thickets of grass.
- A significant range of movements when playing the Mann's Samba vibrator is ensured by small depressions in the fish's body and vibrations of the large tail.
- The “Spirit” attachment is made in the shape of a small fish with a wavy fin. The game of such bait is visible from a great distance. Universal, works great in currents and calm waters.
- A strong current is a place where the Rockvibe Shad bait will provide anglers with an active bite from pike and other predators. The shape of the body and tail ensures active play of the bait, even with a very slow and calm retrieve.
- The Kosadaka Vibra attachment has proven itself to be excellent when fishing in various regions and during year-round use.
Selection criteria and its differences from twister
Not a single fisherman can give a definite answer which is better - a twister or a vibrotail. Each of these silicone tips has its own original structure and different play.
Twisters are usually made in the shape of worms with a ribbed body and a wide spiral tail. When retrieving, the pike sees a vibration of the tail section and a change in the shape of the twister’s body.
The vibrating tail is made in the shape of a fish, and its game differs from the twister. This is due to the heel of the tail of the nozzle. When retrieving the bait, the predator sees a weakened small fish with a vibrating tail
Each type of pike bait has its own differences, the main thing when buying is to pay attention to some basic points
- Nozzle methods.
- Correct tail behavior.
- Shape and dimensions of the nozzle. One thing to remember: baits with narrow bodies and tails are good for casting over long distances, but their play is different from wide-bodied baits. A vibrotail with a wide body is more attractive to pike. It moves more actively during wiring. Size does not affect pike activity. She takes any bait. In spring or late autumn, during the feeding season, pike actively take any bait. But the most optimal length option is 70–120 mm.
- Coloring. This is one of the main points of choice. It depends on many factors, so bait should be prepared depending on the transparency of the water, the depth of the reservoir and the time of year. Spring and autumn are the times of active feeding for pike. She goes to smaller places and actively hunts. The best coloring during this period is natural, with a few highlights added. In summer, pike move to deeper places with cool water. At this time it is better to use bright shades. If you add a black or red back to the silver coloring of the tail, such bait can catch a predator when all other baits have failed.
Vibrating tail for perch. Minimum size
Vibrotail is a bait without which perch fishing is impossible. From the moment the perch becomes more active after spawning until late winter, vibrotails compete for active fish. It doesn’t take much time to persuade a perch to bite when fishing with these baits. In addition to striped robbers, fishing with vibrating tails is effective when hunting pike and pike perch. Today I would like to focus on miniature vibrating tails for perch.
Ecogear Grass minnow ss
Ecogear Grass minnow is the smallest vibrating tail found on the silicone bait market. It amazes with its geometric size. Smaller vibrating tails cannot be found on the silicone bait market. Only the Ukrainian manufacturer of silicone lures Aksenti can be smaller in size, maybe just a little. Aksenti baits are good, but they are for slightly different purposes. Its soft silicone does not add any “survivability” to the bait. For every ten perches caught, there are one or two spoiled baits. In high-speed fishing, especially in competitions, this cannot be called a plus. But his baits have other positive qualities.
Visually, the Ecogear Grass minnow reminds me of a vibrating tail, which I remembered from childhood, which I could not find on the Internet. This shape may have served as the inspiration for the Ecogear Grass minnow. On the other hand, do the Japanese really need to copy someone? This is not crazy fish in the initial stages.
The Ecogear Grass minnow ss vibrating tail is made of hard silicone. This affects the bait both positively and negatively. On the one hand, the strength of the bait is simply colossal. You can fish all day, or even more than one, and the condition of the vibrotail will be new. On the other hand, this rigidity interferes in cases where the bait is lying in the box in the wrong position and the tail on the crease retains its memory and gets twisted to one side. In such cases, heat treatment of the bait will help us. Does everyone remember Aunt Asya and her boiling? It’s the same in fishing, if you know where to modify and how to modify it, modify it and make the ideal bait for microjig. If the bait is treated with boiling water, the material becomes softer and situations with “creases” in the bait will disappear forever.
Ecogear Grass minnow ss pack contains 15 pieces. If we exclude cliffs, which depend on the place of fishing, then we can safely say that one pack of these vibrotails per perch will be enough for the whole season.
Maria MWS Action Fish
Maria MWS Action Fish is the second miniature vibrotail for perch that deserves attention. Its dimensions are 1.2” and this is only 3.02 cm. Vibrating tails of this size should tempt not only a predator, but also aggressive white fish, such as chub, asp, crucian carp, rudd. It is not uncommon to catch rudd using vibrating tails at the peak of its activity.
The material from which Maria MWS Action Fish is made is silicone for sea fishing. It resembles more jelly than the silicone we are used to. In addition to being soft, this silicone is also stretchy. Even when the bait is equipped with a hook, the sensations regarding the material are ambiguous. The softness and stretchability of the vibrating tail material will extend its durability, but behind these advantages there are also disadvantages. The main disadvantage of soft material is that it slips off the hook. If the bait got into the grass or there was a snag, then it will come to the fisherman half pulled off the hook. The fish also pulls the bait while fishing. The salvation in this situation is winding the hook on the shank. Hooks with winding can be prepared both at home and while fishing. As a stopper, you can wrap a thin wire around the shank of the hook or use superglue. I couldn’t find any information on using superglue, but it’s worth considering as an option. It is unknown how the bait material will behave with glue and what will happen as a result.
Where to fish with a vibrotail?
You can fish with vibrotails in any body of water where there is a predator and perch in particular. It doesn't matter if it's a river or a lake. The most important thing is that these silicone baits are similar to the main object of the predator’s hunt. All that remains is to choose the right color and animation of the bait. The color scheme of both models is varied and special in their own way. Maria MWS Action Fish is more focused on sea fishing, so the colors of the baits will be bright and not quite familiar to those who like to fish in fresh water. The variety of colors of the Ecogear Grass minnow is more down to earth and there will be no problems choosing the color of this bait. Does color really affect how fish bite? Another important aspect is the animation of the bait, which we will talk about below.
* if you are not a beginner, you can safely skip the part below
How to fish with a vibrotail?
The wiring for these vibrating tails is the same and largely depends on the mood of both the fish and the angler. There are no universal fishing lines for vibrotail fishing, but there are some basic ones that can be used to successfully catch a predator.
Uniform wiring of the vibrating tail
No matter how trivial it may be, uniform wiring of vibrating tails is one of the most effective. With this wiring, each of us began to master spinning fishing. This wiring is most often effective on a river with a fairly strong current, where nothing is required other than supporting the bait in the water column. This wiring is also effective in still water against active fish. A perch will rarely miss a monotonously moving vibrotail.
Double blast
Double detonation wiring is one of the textbook wiring in microjig. It is carried out using the tip of a spinning rod and reeling in the cord during “explosions”. Personally, in my opinion, this is the most catchy wiring for this size of bait, so for beginners I recommend using this particular wiring. It will bring results always and everywhere.
Uniform wiring with undermining
This wiring is a combination of the previous two. It works well when the entire active predator has been caught with a uniform wire and small tricks are needed to provoke the predator to attack. It is this provocative component that will detonate the bait. Monotonously swimming past the predator, the bait suddenly explodes and then falls. Not only the perch will not remain equal, but the vibrotail will be immediately attacked by a predator.
To summarize, I would like to note these vibrating tails for perch as the smallest and most effective for catching small and medium-sized perch that can be found on the silicone bait market. There is no doubt about the catchability of these baits. They have been tested more than once in different conditions and by more than one person. If there is a perch in the pond, then it will definitely be tempted by this bait. You can buy vibrating tails from both manufacturers for around $3 - $5 per pack, depending on seasonal sales and store pricing. This is not a big price to pay for the pleasure that these lures will bring for perch fishing.

Best Edible Baits
Based on the experience of seasoned experienced fishermen, we can distinguish several manufacturers of edible silicone. Their products are distinguished by excellent attractiveness for fish, reliability and durability.
Top 5 best manufacturers:
- Keytech. The company from Japan is distinguished by the quality of its silicone baits, to which attractants and ordinary salt are added for special attractiveness. Rubber with the scent of shrimp, which is deservedly considered the hallmark of the company, has gained the greatest respect both among fishermen and the objects of their hunt. The peculiarity of Keitech bait is its shape; here you can find traditional familiar baits and fantastic figures, which are no less attractive to predators due to their high edibility.
- Lucky John. The company owes its appearance to local fishing athletes. Their products have a stable, bright smell and excellent taste. A distinctive feature of baits is their various colors, which sometimes play a significant role in fishing. Among the edible silicone you can easily find vibrating tails, all kinds of twisters with the appetizing aroma of crayfish, shrimp or even mackerel.
- Kosadaka. Manufacturers from Japan produce excellent baits that do not have a pronounced taste or aroma, but are nevertheless attractive to the predatory inhabitants of the reservoir. The ratio of the components in edible silicone is so perfectly combined that it is almost impossible to remain without a catch.
- Reins. The calling card of the Japanese company is spinning baits, which appeal to fresh water fish. The familiar smell makes pike and perch actively attack the treat. The sizes of the bait (large and small) allow you to hunt fish of different sizes, which is especially convenient when going to unexplored bodies of water.
- Crazy Fish. As it turned out, the Chinese are also well versed in edible baits, because the company’s products are in no way inferior to Lithuanian or Japanese rubber delicacies. Manufacturers have shown considerable imagination, providing silicone bait with the aroma of garlic, fried fish, anise, and squid. The cost of Chinese products is more affordable than that of expensive analogues, but it will not affect the efficiency and effectiveness of fishing in any way.
When going hunting for an inhabitant of a reservoir, it is easy to check what exactly the desired prey will react to; to do this, you just need to purchase several different baits. It must be remembered that fish react to water temperature, time of day and even the speed of the current, and this determines what kind of smell the long-awaited prey will be seduced by.
Despite their ease of use, silicone scented baits have many peculiarities in their use, so it is better to first carefully read all the rules and characteristics in order to avoid annoying mistakes. You should not stop at one type of rubber - experiments often lead to very pleasant results.
Spinning rod equipment for wobblers for pike
Wobblers are often used by amateur spinners in the same way as spinners - on a uniform retrieve or with pauses (stop-and-go). That’s why we have a lot of fishermen who don’t like these baits - like they don’t catch with us, except when they’re hungry, when the pike takes anything. If small wobblers have already firmly settled in the boxes of our spinning rods for catching perch, chub and asp, then large ones for pike - not so much. And all because of the improper use of these baits.
Sometimes the pike takes well on even stretches of large cranks and bellies, that is, fats. However, the most effective way to catch toothy fish with this type of artificial bait is by twitching large 110, 130 or more minnow wobblers, as well as bladeless rattlins. Twitching, simply put, is fairly sharp twitching, and constantly according to a certain pattern. At the same time, the wobbler causes aggression in the pike; it grabs it to drive the competitor away from its point. Therefore, with proper wiring, wobblers catch when the pike is not feeding at all.
- Large wobblers are very stubborn when jerking - an ordinary spinning rod of medium action will bend and not pull correctly. What you need here is a powerful, but at the same time light stick with a fast or extra-fast action. That’s why large pike minnows don’t work for many novice wobbler operators; they carry them with soft spinning rods.
- The second reason for this dislike is incorrect equipment. If you attach a wobbler for twitching or a rattlin to a regular soft leash with a swivel, when jerking, the front hook of the bait will overlap the leash. And so on every wiring.
- Wobblers are a subtle bait in terms of its understanding. An important characteristic is buoyancy - slowly floating, slowly sinking, suspenders when hanging in the thickness (zero buoyancy). Suspenders (SP) are most prized by pike fish. However, a heavy leash, and even one with a swivel, can so affect the buoyancy of the wobbler that it loses its killer game.
More details - the right wobblers for pike
To properly equip a spinning rod for pike with large wobblers, you need:
- Choose the right rod - a special twitching rod or a universal one with a fast action to pull stubborn wobblers on a jerk.
- In the rig, use not soft leashes, but steel twists, which, due to their rigidity, do not overwhelm the tee of the bait when jerking.
- When making jerks, give back the tip of the rod each time, loosen the tension - only in this way will the wobbler perform those same residual vibrations and rolling that are lethal to pike.
String twist
To equip a spinning rod for pike with wobblers, we install not a soft metal leash, but a steel twist. You can make it yourself from 0.3-0.4 mm wire. In stores, twists are also sold for 100 rubles for 10 pieces. To start mastering wobblers for pike, just buy ready-made strands of 0.3 mm wire, 20 cm long, with swivels at one end.
- We tie the cord to the swivel with a palomar - a wobbler to the other end of the twist, right into the eye. We remove the factory winding ring on wobblers - it is absolutely not needed there - there will be less chance of overlaps. The weight of such leashes is not enough to impair the performance of such large pike killers as Rudra, Kanata or Ito Shiner.
- Further, when the angler dives into the wobblers and adjusts their buoyancy, by making homemade twists of different lengths (and using steel of different thicknesses), adding or removing a swivel, this characteristic can be adjusted, achieving the ideal position of the suspender.
- The twist leads can be twisted manually using pliers. After several unsuccessful attempts it will start to work. It is more convenient to do this using a screwdriver with a special attachment. But the best thing is to use a special machine, a leash, for example, from the Ramenskaya Stringa company. There you can also get a supply of the correct wire for twisting.
Knotless installation
Experienced twitchers usually catch pike only with wobblers, without using spinners. This means that a swivel is not needed in the rigging system. When equipping a spinning rod for pike with large minnows, instead of a swivel, a knotless connection is used in the equipment. The braid can simply be woven into the top twist.
However, it is safer to use a knotless clasp. The diameter of the knotless wire is 2-3 times thicker than 0.3-0.4 mm twist. Therefore, there is less pressure on the cord under load at the connection point, according to the laws of physics. And tests show that tying to a knotless knot is stronger than simply weaving into a twist or knot.

Equipment for vibrotail fishing
Catching fish with bait involves the use of various devices. Equipment for catching perch with a vibrotail is divided into categories:
- classic;
- spaced.
Classic equipment differs in installation. The main method of installation is on a jig head. The method is suitable for all conditions and bodies of water. It is better for novice fishermen to hunt predators using this method. The eared sinker is used in the bottom layers in which fishing is carried out; you can catch perch with a double hook. These rigs have an open hook, from which fish often fall off. For snaggy areas, installation with an offset hook is required.
The spaced equipment has a diverting leash. Such fishing gear is used in places without snags and aquatic vegetation. Several leashes on the main line are called a garland. This gear can be used to catch several fish at once. Lures of different colors and sizes are placed on leashes.
Reel and line
The reel used is a spinning reel with a medium-sized metal body. It has 50-80 m of fishing line, spins easily and smoothly, and has no squeaks. For spinning fishing line, monofilament or braided line is suitable. Advantages of braided fishing line:
- high strength;
- sensitivity;
- elasticity.
The diameter of the thread is 0.12−0.15 mm.
Hooks
The vibrotail is equipped with a hook that has a spherical sinker. The size of the hook must necessarily correspond to the dimensions of the nozzle. If selected correctly, the sting is located in the tail area. Spinning fishermen often use a double hook or an offset one. As a result, they have tackle in their hands that does not cling. Mount the hook in the following order:
- the head of the nozzle is pierced, the tip is removed after 6-9 mm;
- the sting can be extended to the mounting eye and removed from the back.
The handguard is chosen to be durable, giving fewer slips.
