Bait for crucian carp at home: the best recipes

What important elements does bait consist of?

So that you can experiment and come up with your own recipes for fertilizers that work for crucian carp, we will tell you what they should consist of.
Each of them has important elements in the base that contribute. Having understood the principles of creating a recipe, you can easily bring your ideas to life, ensuring a good bite. 7 main components:

  1. Dusty. A cloud of turbidity and dust perfectly attracts white fish. To create it, add semolina and milk powder.
  2. Large faction. To prevent large fish from leaving the area, large particles are added to the bait. Their role is played by: various cereals, corn, peas. If they are not kept, the crucian carp will quickly swim away, since it will swim towards the smell and the dregs will not find anything to profit from.
  3. Connecting elements. Breadcrumbs, wafer crumbs, biscuit crumbs, flour. As the name suggests, they are used to bind all the ingredients together to form a single mass. Depending on their quantity, the final mass will be airy (for the feeder) or more sticky (for balls).
  4. Weights. The main task is to deliver the food to the bottom, creating a flat spot, the so-called table. All the fish gather in this spot. If the mixture is too airy, it will dissipate before reaching the bottom, and if there is a current, it will be carried far from the fishing spot. Use: soil and clay. The first option is for standing reservoirs. The second, depending on the quantity, is universal, and it helps perfectly with fast flows.
  5. Flavors. With the help of attractants you can add absolutely any desired flavor: garlic, honey, worm, plum, caramel, chocolate. The smell is great for attracting any fish. For this purpose, either purchased syrups, molasses or natural ingredients are used, for example honey diluted in warm water.
  6. Animal components. They are especially relevant in spring and autumn, when crucian carp switches to protein, high-calorie foods. Chopped worms, maggots and crushed bloodworms are excellent choices.
  7. Floating particles. Few people know, but there is also such a secret. Often used for float fishing. After hitting the bottom, ingredients with positive buoyancy float up, amazingly attracting the attention of fish. In this role they use: husks from hemp seeds and grains (only whole). They practically do not absorb moisture, which means they will definitely float.

The smell begins to work first, spreading the aroma far across the pond. After this, food of different fractions comes into play, forcing you to stay at the point. Learn to maintain balance: if a silverfish gets full, it will immediately swim away. The task is to feed it, preferably with food that does not contain nutrition. To speed up digestion, supplements are used (for example, ground peanuts).

The best recipes for cooking at home

As you already understand, various ingredients are used, in different proportions. They all have their own preparation technologies: steaming, boiling, mixing with the addition of water and attractants. Below we have reviewed the best and accurately working baits that you can easily prepare at home. Almost all of them do not take much time and are very cheap. The price is especially relevant for frequent fishing for crucian carp, as well as for long trips, when you need to prepare 5-10 kg per group.

Porridge

In the vast majority of recipes, porridge is the base. Having a low cost per kg of product, high efficiency and ease of cooking, the fisherman receives the ideal ingredient. They can be used both in crushed form and whole. Suitable for both steaming and short cooking. It all depends on how flowable you want the mixture to be.

Commonly used cereals:

  1. peas
  2. millet
  3. corn
  4. barley
  5. couscous

The easiest option is to use cereal in the base and add ready-made bait. In this case, the ratio is not 1 to 1, but 1 to 2 or 3. Everything that we consider below has a base - cereal. This is an ideal ingredient for home cooking. To it you can add everything that you find on our list: breadcrumbs, ground seeds, roasted and ground hemp, grated cookies and more.

Pearl barley

It is universal, as it is used not only as an additive to complementary foods but also as bait. At the same time, in both the first and second cases it works with a bang.

Cooking options:

  1. Steam in a thermos
  2. Boil in a saucepan
  3. Soak
  4. Cook in a slow cooker

Which method to use is up to you to decide. When cooking a large volume, it is better to cook in a saucepan or slow cooker. If the target is used as bait, it is better to steam it in a thermos, pour boiling water over it and leave it overnight. Read more.

Recipe for pearl barley with peas:

  1. Pour washed peas into a saucepan
  2. Add water in proportions: 1 teaspoon of peas to 4 teaspoons of water
  3. After boiling the peas, add pearl barley and cook until done
  4. Turn off the gas, cover with a lid and let it brew.

All carp fish will not mind trying your delicacy; the by-catch will include: crucian carp, bream, carp. By adding dry ready-mix or breadcrumbs, you can adjust the consistency, choosing it for both the feeder and the balls.

Recipe for pearl barley with millet:

  1. Add 6 teaspoons of water to 1 teaspoon of barley
  2. Cook until half cooked
  3. Add 1 teaspoon of millet and continue cooking until bubbly.
  4. Add a small amount of sunflower oil and aromatics if desired.
  5. Leave to infuse

By adding a few more ingredients in the form of porridge, we get salapinka - which not only crucian carp, but also bream are crazy about. We'll talk about it a little lower.

Breadcrumbs as a base

Crackers are added to many baits, including to add flavor and viscosity. They cost pennies and are available in any store. Having the opportunity, purchase them in confectionery stores, where there will always be a fresh product. It is in it that the amazing and alluring smell of fish is concentrated.

Simple recipe 1:

  1. Grind 1 kg breadcrumbs and 1 kg oatmeal
  2. If necessary, add soil (clay) when fishing in the current
  3. Add chopped worm, maggot or bloodworm
  4. Add water only when fishing.

More complex recipe 2:

  1. Mix 500 g breadcrumbs, 300 g bran and 200 g seeds
  2. Grind it all in a blender or mixer
  3. Stir a few tablespoons of honey in warm water and gradually pour into the bait
  4. Add enough water so that the consistency allows you to form dense balls

Semolina

It is also often used and there are a lot of options for adding it. Let's consider one of the simple and catchy ones. We will need:

  1. 5 g cinnamon
  2. breadcrumbs 200 gr
  3. boiled semolina porridge 200 g
  4. wheat flour 200 gr
  5. cake 100 g
  6. flavored cookies 100 gr

Using a mixer, mix everything listed above until smooth. It is important not to over-moisten it, otherwise it will turn out too sticky. We advise you to add water in portions and only when you are on the pond. Read more about proper preparation in our article.

Corn (flour or sweet grains)

This ingredient has a persistent aroma that works well on all types of carp, including crucian carp. We will offer an option with dry grains, although it is possible to use canned corn and its flour.

  1. Soak the grains in cold water for 1-3 days
  2. Cook until fully cooked so that the grains are soft
  3. Add flavoring (garlic, anise, honey, hemp) or 2-3 grams of ground dill to the water and leave it like that for another day
  4. Add wheat flour at the rate of 1/4 part
  5. Mix all the ingredients until the grains lose their shape.
  6. We make balls from the resulting mass
  7. If dry, add a little water.

Salapin porridge for fishing

This mess has spread all over Russia, experienced fishermen know about it and beginners have heard a lot about it. A simple and at the same time effective recipe was primarily aimed at bream. But as it turns out, the crucian carp is also not averse to enjoying this treat.

  1. One part cooked pearl barley
  2. Whole millet 2 parts
  3. Corn or barley grits 4 parts
  4. Water 9 parts
  5. For aroma we use 5 grams of vanillin, it is better to dilute it in water.

After filling the pearl barley with water, put it on medium heat and cook until half cooked. Add the remaining cereals and continue cooking. After diluting vanillin in a small amount of water, add it to the pan. Cook until the grains are completely cooked. Turn off the heat, cover with a lid and leave to steep for at least 2-3 hours.

Porridge for catching crucian carp with a spring

Any feeder equipment requires specially prepared complementary foods. It should not be too dusty and airy, otherwise it will not linger in the cage, flying out at the casting stage. At the same time, the consistency should not be such that food would still remain there during cutting.

Compound:

  1. Millet groats 200 gr
  2. Barley 200 gr
  3. Breadcrumbs 200 gr
  4. Compound feed for fish 300 gr
  5. Corn flour or crushed peas 200 g
  6. Sunflower cake 200 gr

The nuance is that all the cereals must be cooked separately until fully cooked. Then let them cool and then mix everything together. We advise beginning fishermen to add water in small doses and only at the fishing site. Then let it brew a little and add it again, if necessary.

The most catchy baits and lures

When choosing a nozzle or bait for catching crucian carp, you should adhere to the following rules:

  • in spring and late autumn give preference to animal baits,
  • in summer - vegetable.

But there are exceptions, and this happens quite often.

Dung worms

If you had to “pick up the key” to large crucian carp, which the day before were caught with enviable success using ordinary worms and maggots. And today they don’t even want to look in their direction. The crust of the loaf will help correct the situation, turning fortunes towards the angler. This happened more than once, and the fisherman received true pleasure from the process and the joy of a solid catch.

Village children who successfully caught crucian carp shared their fishing secret. Their bait is worms. Yes, not simple dung worms, but worms, as they called them - wet ones. They can be obtained in coastal reed thickets. A very catchy bait will help you catch no less than a bucket of large crucian carp.

Bread

If, having used all the stored baits and attachments, the angler is already desperate to see a bite, then you can do the following.

After slightly squeezing the bread crumb, it should be placed on the hook with a flat cake. This method of baiting can change the crucian carp’s point of view on baiting with bread.

Lucky copy!

Chatterbox

Many fishermen use a semolina bait to catch crucian carp, complaining that this bait does not hold on to the hook quite well, flying off it even with a weak first bite. To prevent this from happening, you should place a vinyl ball on the shank of the hook, which must first be soaked in the same flavoring agent that was used in preparing the chatter itself. By the way, at dusk, crucian carp no less actively peck at the ball itself.

The majority of anglers are accustomed to using the “cold” version of the chatterbox for fishing, i.e. semolina is diluted in water and wound on a stick. This attachment is too short-lived; after just a few hours it loses its adhesiveness, becoming liquid.

It is best to use the “hot” version of the mash; if necessary, it can be stored in the refrigerator for a week.

In a flat saucepan you need to boil water, put mint leaves or dill sprigs into it for 3 – 5 seconds (you can use other aromatic herbs that crucian carp love), and then add semolina and boil hard. You need to add egg white to the already cooled porridge and grind everything until a homogeneous mass is formed. After adding flour (ideally rye), you need to shake with a fork until the required consistency. The resulting bolt should be difficult to press into the 20 mm syringe. The flavor option can be indicated on the syringe itself. And upon arrival for fishing, offer the crucian carp different flavors one by one.

Hercules on potatoes

Fishermen know that soaked rolled oats flakes quickly collapse, and dry ones break, even when hooked on the sharpest hook. Rolled oats flakes should be pierced by placing them on a hook on the cut of a raw potato. It turns out perfect.

Worm + maggot

If the crucian carp are biting very badly, you can try the following sandwich: a bunch of torn worms and white maggots. The result can exceed all expectations. The crucian carp will bite with special passion, and respectable specimens will be caught on the hook.

Semolina + foam ball

To give the semolina bait greater buoyancy so that it does not sink in the mud, a foam ball should be placed on the hook. It is best to pre-flavor the ball. This method will allow you to enjoy catching crucian carp, including large ones.

The right bait is a guarantee of a catch

Groundbait mixtures depending on the time of year

The time of year makes its own adjustments to the diet of crucian carp, so we need to adapt to them. To be aimed at serious results, take into account the seasonality. Below we look at what is best to use in summer, autumn and spring, creating the best bait.

What is better to use in spring

  • In March, almost no crucian carp is caught throughout almost the entire territory of Russia, except in regions with a warm climate. He has not yet recovered from hibernation and is still buried in the silt.
  • April heralds the beginning of a weak bite. You can start using flavors. The water is cloudy and you can hardly see in it, so the smell comes first. Be sure to add animal bait to the mixture.
  • In May the bite returns to normal and becomes stable. Animal food is preferred, so its use is as necessary as air. Don't be afraid to add chopped worms or maggots. Any of the above recipes is suitable as a top dressing. In late spring, the time comes for plant components and a large fraction of corn, peas or pearl barley.

Summer

  • During June, it is possible to add animal components, but in small quantities: 10-20%. The rest is millet, corn, pearl barley porridge, with the addition of attractants and milass. As soon as the hot days persist, the crucian carp will completely switch to vegetation, keep this in mind. Semolina - chatterbox will be a good bait.
  • July gives you the opportunity to go wild. Feel free to choose any recipe and use it. Forget about maggots and worms, now this is completely irrelevant. A tandem of porridge with the addition of ready-made bait would be a good option. Having opened 1 kg of millet and mixed it with 1 kg of packs from the store, all that remains is to add a little smell.
  • August is no different from July, so stick to the same principles. The water is still warm, the air temperature is at average levels, and there is no smell of cold yet.

Autumn

From the moment the cold weather began and throughout the fall, animal food is again in first place. Add it in sufficient doses, but keep in mind that you need to feed, not feed the fish. During such periods, use ready-made base formulations; they contain few nourishing substances, so even if you eat a lot of crucian carp, you won’t get enough. The second secret is adding digestion accelerators. This promotes rapid emptying of the stomach, which causes a constant feeling of hunger.

As a cheap base you can use:

  • ground crackers
  • bran
  • Hercules
  • corn grits
  • cheap cookies

Fishing with a rod

When catching crucian carp with a float rod, you should take into account the specifics of this fish from the carp family. Its distribution is quite wide, but its capriciousness is noted. Sometimes she bites perfectly, and sometimes she stops pecking altogether, although the conditions seem to be the same.

Crucian carp lives in overgrown lakes, ponds, rivers, swamps, and in bottom areas, where it feeds on worms, bloodworms and other small animals. He is not very picky about food, he eats everything.

There are goldfish and silverfish. The first has a more rounded shape, larger sizes, and the color of the scales is golden. Both species are usually no more than eight hundred grams in size, but larger specimens are also found.

Catching crucian carp with a fishing rod does not require any special skills; it is very exciting and enjoyable. The fishing rod should be light and long, since the banks where crucian carp live are often very muddy. The fishing line is thin, no more than 0.15 - 0.20 millimeters.

Usually a number four hook is used. It is good to use a special hook for crucian carp, which has a round hook and a short shank. The crucian carp does not swallow the hook deeply, and bait is conveniently placed on such a hook - maggots, worms, bread pellets.

Quality and grip are important for a hook. Good brands of hooks: Mustard, Trabucco, Gamakatcu. They use one hook on a fishing rod, but other fishermen use a pair with different baits.

Floats and sinkers are selected in such a way that the bait on the hook can be located near the bottom at different distances. The float should be light, with a load capacity of up to two grams. Elongated shape.

They use a goose quill, a porcupine quill, and an elongated Vaggler with a single point attachment. It is best to fish with a fishing rod early in the morning, before ten o'clock in the morning. The bite is most active when the weather is calm and windless. You need to fish with a fishing rod in reed and reed thickets, the depth should gradually change.

For bait when fishing with a fishing rod, maggots, bloodworms, flavored semolina, earthworms, and rye bread pellets are used. The maggots are hooked onto the hook, several at a time, across, thereby hiding the sting. Some amateur fishermen breed maggots at home.

To impregnate the pellet, vegetable oil, vanilla and anise oil are used in very small quantities. Fish has a good sense of smell, so aromatic additives help a lot.

A fisherman usually takes with him several options for bait, since it is impossible to immediately determine which is the most optimal. If the crucian carp does not bite on one type of bait, you should change it.

Bait is important when using a float rod. Use it the day before fishing. Experienced fishermen use the so-called bait, that is, bait that has a long-term effect.

The use of bait develops a conditioned reflex in crucian carp: the fish swims to a specific place to feed at a certain time. It’s a good idea to add a flavoring to the bait, for example, anise oil. For bait you can take steamed grain grain, soaked bread crusts, food leftovers, crushed cake.

Crucian carp bites uniquely: unevenly, but confidently. First, the float twitches, after which it is pulled to one side, then to the other, only then does it begin to sink, and this is where the prey should be hooked.

The bite must be reliable, otherwise the crucian carp will fall off the hook. If a fish is hooked, it has very little resistance and practically does not tear the line. With active resistance, crucian carp can become entangled in thickets.

The best additive is garlic

This scent is the best for any time of year. The reason for such a great love of crucian carp for garlic is not known for certain, but it works with a bang. It doesn’t matter how you extract garlic juice, it can be either using a ready-made attractant in a spray bottle or a crushed or ground clove. Both the first and second methods can be used to process the bait directly on the hook.

Having dipped the pearl barley grain, it will acquire a persistent, attractive smell; by soaking a foam ball in the juice, it will immediately absorb the desired aroma. A homemade method for making an attractant is as follows: 2 crushed cloves of garlic are poured into 50 grams of vegetable oil. Then it is infused in the refrigerator for several days. The finished liquid is stored for quite a long time; it can be added to bait or taken with you on fishing trips for dipping baits.

Which ready-made mixtures are in great demand

Everything listed below is not advertising. We collected baits with real reviews from fishermen and presented them to you. At first we didn’t want to do this, but given the fact that you will still often or rarely use store-bought mixtures, we give recommendations.

  • Sensas 3000 Club Carassin. It has a yellow color and is good at luring large crucians and carp. Can be used in its pure form, without homemade additions, or mixed with millet.
  • Allvega Lake 1 kg (lake). It quickly lures and holds it at the fishing point for a long time. The composition contains confectionery waste, food flavorings and crushed grain crops. Depending on the amount of water, it is used for both float and feeder fishing.
  • Dunaev Premium 1 kg Hybrid. The most famous of all listed, with the largest number of positive reviews. Universal: suitable for both flowing and standing waters. Consists of crackers, biscuit, corn, molasses, cake and several other components. Speeds up digestion, preventing you from leaving the point.
  • Greenfishing Pepper Mix 800. This is a mixture from Dmitry Salapin, the same one whose porridge recipe we described above. Creates a yellow cloudy spot that attracts laundry. Quickly collects fish at the fishing spot.

What cooking mistakes should you avoid?

When you do something with your own hands, not using technology, you absolutely make a number of mistakes. Subsequently, each of them can cause a lack of bite. Bait is the first thing that begins to affect the fish, forcing it not to go far from the feeding site. By spoiling it, you will inevitably ruin your fishing.

The most common beginner mistakes:

  • Lack of large fractions. If you want to catch a large crucian carp, then be sure to add unground grains, worms, and maggots.
  • Don't overfeed your fish. If the composition contains animal bait and there are no components that accelerate digestion, feeding should be done very carefully. Otherwise, once they have eaten, they will all blur and leave you without a bite.
  • Excess moisture. First, add a small amount of water and mix thoroughly. Let it brew a little and absorb. Only then continue to add water if necessary. A mixture that is too viscous will not spread out on the bottom properly and will not wash out of the feeder. At the same time, there is no need for excessive dryness - when it hits the water, the ball will disintegrate too early, without creating a clear spot of food.
  • Number of attractants. Do not use them too much; sharp and strong odors can, on the contrary, scare you away. It is important that the smell is present, but does not interrupt all other components.
  • Improper addition of animal additives. In cold water their use is a necessity, but in warm water they can be used either without them or with a minimum.

Do-it-yourself bait for crucian carp in spring

It has been noted that the bite in spring differs from the rest of the bite. Accordingly, the bait should also be different. How to make bait for crucian carp for spring fishing and what conditions should be observed?

In spring, namely at the end of March - beginning of April, when the winter ice is just melting, the best bait is a simple bait . You can catch quite large crucian carp with it. Some fishermen believe that the largest crucian carp can be caught only during this period.

Here is a very good recipe for bait for crucian carp at home. You need to take:

  • ten parts of molehill soil;
  • one part finely chopped worms.

These two components are thoroughly mixed, and lumps are formed from the mass, which are thrown to where fishing is planned.

In the spring, this is the best bait for crucian carp, which will allow you to catch a larger specimen. In terms of its effectiveness, it is unlikely to be able to compete with other complementary foods and is very simple to do. This is undoubtedly its big advantage. It is also called “super bait for fishing.”
