What to catch in Lake Teletskoye?

Fishing on Lake Teletskoye

Lake Teletskoye is unusually rich in fish. According to rumors, there are 14 species of it found here. The most famous of them are pike, burbot, lake “herring” (which is classified as salmon), grayling, whitefish and taimen. I saw many fishermen on the shore, with fishing rods in their hands, trying to catch something. They succeed because there are a lot of fish in the lake. For lovers of fishing from a boat, a lot of services are also offered. I came across an advertising offer for a day and a half route around the lake for 6,000 rubles on a motor boat. If you are not a professional, it doesn’t matter; You will be accompanied by an experienced instructor.

Lake Teletskoye is a separate world that exists according to its own unwritten laws. We can say that it is a living organism that has rhythm and structure. According to legend, somewhere in these places is the legendary Shambhala. And it depends only on the person whether he will find it or not. It seems to me that this mythical country is not a specific place; it lies in the depths of human consciousness. If your thoughts are pure, you will get a chance to find yourself, feel unity with nature, and know happiness. And the most important thing is to be filled with life-giving energy to the depths of your soul.

Recreation and fishing on Lake Teletskoye

Lake Teletskoye is located in the southern part of Western Siberia in the Altai Republic. The reservoir is surrounded on all sides by watershed ridges. The length of the lake is more than 77 km, and the width at its widest point is 5 km. Teletskoye has an average depth of 175 m, and in the deepest place it reaches 325 m. The lake has 2 large bays - Kamginsky and Kyginsky, which are the natural spawning grounds for local fish.

The climate in the valley of the mountain lake is continental; in the southern part the air temperature is always 4-5 degrees higher than in the northern part. The spring and autumn months are considered not the best time for fishing here due to very strong and harsh winds. At this time, navigation is often suspended, since it is impossible to board and disembark passengers on boats. In winter, the lake is partially covered with ice, which never occurs in the deep part of the reservoir.

Near the shores, the ice has such high transparency and purity that you can see the bottom topography at a depth of 5-6 m. The climate in the valley of Lake Teletskoye is so unique that even in summer the weather can change several times a day.

The lake is home to 14 species of fish, some of which live only in these places (taimen, Telets whitefish). Fishermen's catch often includes such valuable fish species as grayling, lenok, pike, perch and others.

On Lake Teletskoye there is a huge number of recreation centers, hotels and hotels that welcome tourists all year round. People come here to admire nature, go on cycling and hiking excursions and, of course, go fishing. Many recreation centers provide such a service as paid fishing. The cost of paid fishing may include:

  • provision of transport along the route;
  • accompaniment of an experienced fisherman-inspector;
  • rental of fishing gear and equipment.

The average cost of fishing per person is from 6,000 rubles.

Fishing for Taimen

But Lake Teletskoye became famous thanks to the beautiful taimen, popularly dubbed “mountain”. This is the most valuable and largest representative of the salmon family, reaching one and a half meters in length and weighing up to 80 kg. Taimen spawn in late May and early June in shallow rivers feeding the lake. Active biting begins after spawning and continues until October.

Catching taimen with a spinning rod from the shore is not the best option, so trolling around the lake with reliable gear and a deep-water wobbler will allow you to catch especially large specimens. Such fishing strictly follows the strict rule: catch - release, since taimen, as a small species, is listed in the Red Book.

How to Catch More Fish? | 3 Main Methods

Over 15 years of active fishing, I have found many ways to improve the bite, and here are the most effective:

Bite activator. This pheromone additive attracts fish most strongly in cold and warm water. The Fish Hungry bite activator has proven itself to be excellent - Read more…

Gear with increased sensitivity. You should first familiarize yourself with the features of using a particular type.

Pheromone lures

They attract the attention of fish, stimulate hunger and cause a schooling reflex, which allows you to collect a lot of fish in one place

The local fish, uskuch (lenok), reaching 5 kg, is considered a smaller counterpart of taimen. Unlike its famous brother, Uskuk is available for fishing all year round. Spawning begins in the spring - at this time it actively moves around the lake, entering river mouths. Uskuch are caught mainly with a fishing rod or tugs; nets are ideal for small specimens.

Throughout the year, and especially in the summer months, on Lake Teletskoye fly fishermen join spinning enthusiasts to enjoy grayling fishing. This is a very active fish with a stunningly beautiful dorsal fin, reminiscent in color of the tail feathers of a peacock. Individuals of this species grow up to half a meter and gain a weight of 2-3 kg.

This representative of the salmon family is not picky about food: its diet includes bottom-dwelling mollusks, insects, and fish eggs. Based on food preferences, fishermen select baits - flies, grasshoppers, spoons, all kinds of decoys. Grayling spawns from April to May at the mouths of rivers flowing into the lake.

The freshwater ambassador of cod fish is the burbot - a numerous deep-sea lover of clear and cold water, the owner of quite impressive metric data (length up to 1.2 m with a weight of about 10 kg). For three long months, from January to March, burbot spawns, then falls into the lake and fattens. It responds excellently to fishing with nets and small-sized spoons throughout the year.

Among the smallest fish found in Lake Teletskoye are: minnow (of the carp family), mottled and Siberian sculpin (commonly known as broadhead), Siberian char (of the loach family).

Fishing on Lake Teletskoye

Lake Teletskoye. Altai Republic.

The tectonic depression filled with the purest water between the Korbu and Altyntu ridges in the northeast of Altai goes by several names. The local population has long called it Altynkol, that is, Golden Lake. According to legend, during a hungry year, an Altai man, desperate to exchange a huge piece of pure gold for food for his family, threw a nugget into the water and jumped down after it. However, the Lake Teletskoye basin is still rich in gold deposits.

About four centuries ago, Russian pioneers named it Teletsky in honor of the Turkic tribe, the Teles, who lived on its banks. There are few lakes that would be ahead of it in terms of height (at 436 meters) and depth (maximum 325, average 174 meters). In terms of the amount of fresh water, Teletskoye is second only to Baikal. Golden Lake covers an area of 223 km2 and has a highly elongated shape, since its length (more than 77 kilometers) is 15 times greater than its width.

An underwater ridge up to 211 meters high divides Lake Teletskoye into two basins. The bottom is muddy, and closer to the shore it is rocky. The cliffs surrounding the lake in the south reach 2400 meters. Streams of numerous waterfalls fall from the rocks into ledges into the lake. Among the steep banks there is a place for gorges, cliffs, grottoes and colorful bays, and the mountain ranges are covered with centuries-old pine trees. The surroundings of the lake are covered by wild, untouched taiga. The Kyginsky and Kamginsky bays serve as spawning grounds for lake fish. The northern and southern ends are crowned by wide reaches.

In some years, the lake does not completely freeze in winter, but most of it is covered with ice in late autumn - mid-winter, and it melts in April or May.

The uniquely beautiful mountain lake warms up to 24 degrees in the south. Part of its territory, the right bank, is covered by the status of the Altai Nature Reserve. The nearest settlements to it are the villages of Iogach (Artybash) and Yaylo. From the south, Chulyshman, the largest of 70 rivers and 150 small tributaries, flows into the lake. It feeds Lake Teletskoye with the waters of Dzhulkul located even higher. The Biya flowing from it carries water further, feeding the Ob with it.

They get to the northern, most developed part of the lake from Gorno-Altaisk or Biysk. You can relax on the territory of the reserve only with a special permit issued by the administration of the village of Yaylo. The southern part has been little developed, since it can only be reached by boat, boat or SUV, having overcome the dangerous Katu-Yaryk pass. There are practically no roads on the coast, and between several villages scattered over two hundred kilometers, communication is carried out by water. The complexity of the path plays into nature’s hands: no one litters the forests and waters, and the pristine purity characteristic of hard-to-reach places is maintained. Hundreds of species of birds and animals are found in the taiga around Golden Lake.

The oxygen-rich water makes it an excellent habitat for fish, and its transparency reaches up to 15 meters in some places. About 14 species of fish inhabit Lake Teletskoye. Among them, the most numerous populations are taimen, lenok (uskuch), grayling, perch and whitefish. There are also pike, burbot, and dace.

The king of all fish is rightfully considered taimen, a salmon fish whose length reaches one and a half meters and weighs up to 40 kilograms. Local fishermen are happy to regal tourists with legends about the giant fish. Most taimen are found in bays near the source of the Chulyshman River. It bites best after spawning, in June, but its fishing is now suspended, so fishermen who accidentally catch taimen are obliged to release it.

The favorite prey of fishermen has become Teletsian grayling, up to forty centimeters in length and weighing up to eight hundred grams, which is best caught in the area of the mouths of rivers flowing into Golden Lake. This variety of salmon fish is used on natural baits (botflies, grasshoppers, flies, stoneflies, mayflies) and artificial ones (spinners, flies, decoys and even “mouse”). Grayling spawns in May and June, and actively bites all year round.

Uskuch (lenok), also belonging to the salmon family, is not inferior in taste to taimen. Its maximum parameters reach a length of 70 centimeters and 6 kilograms of weight. The bulk of them come across individuals weighing three to four kilograms. Uskuk spawns in the middle and end of spring and actively bites all year round. It is found off the coast, but its population is not large.

There are two types of whitefish found in Golden Lake: Teletsky and Pravdina, both from the salmon family. The population of Teletskoye whitefish is very numerous, individuals grow to an average length of 50 centimeters. It collects insects everywhere from the surface of the lake, but in mid- and late autumn before spawning it prefers the calm waters of Kamginsky Bay. It bites on the same baits as grayling. Whitefish Pravdina is its smallest variety, reaching 15 centimeters in length. It goes to the mouth of the Biya to spawn, then returns to the lake. Its population is small and is listed in the Red Book of Altai, so it is not recommended to catch it, and if this happens, it is better to release it.

The population of burbot, a representative of cod fish, is quite numerous. Leads a benthic lifestyle, sometimes found at a depth of more than one hundred meters. It can reach 1.2 meters in length and ten kilograms in weight. Spawns from January to March. It bites well on small spoons and casters. Ruffs and cut fish serve as excellent bait. The burbot bite in Lake Teletskoye is year-round; it is found everywhere, especially in the southern part.

Dace from the carp family, or locally known as chebak, rarely exceeds 200 grams in weight and 20 centimeters in length. It feeds on mosquito larvae (bloodworms) at the bottom, rising from the shore to the surface for insects blown into the water. The fish is very nimble and difficult to catch, so catching it with a fishing rod is quite exciting, with strong bites and sharp hooking. In the mornings, schools of dace can be found on the rifts, in the evenings - under the bank at depth. They love to feast on caviar in salmon spawning areas. They prefer southern waters and the Kyginsky Bay. Dace spawn in late spring and early summer, and winter in the Chulyshman River.

The pike in Golden Lake does not exceed one meter and eleven kilograms. Spawns for about a week in May on grassy flats. Found everywhere, especially loves western waters and the source of the Chulyshman River. It can be caught using spinning rods all year round. In the summer it uses bait, artificial or natural, and in the winter it uses bait or lures. Perch weighing up to 800 grams is best caught at the source of the Chulyshman River using live bait or a worm, and in winter using a small spoon.

When you come to relax on Lake Teletskoye in Altai, you can stay at the Artybash hotel, at the Estyuba recreation center, at the Edem tourist complex or visit the Samysh cordon.

Features of fishermen in Altai at different times of the year

Unlike other regions of the Russian Federation, which are also quite natural for fishing, Altai differs significantly in its weather conditions and geographical location, which greatly affects all the resulting forms of life, including the fishing industry.

  • In the summer you can fish exclusively in private reservoirs, where the fish are looked after and have long been adapted to certain conditions and the rhythm of life, although even in camp sites in the summer the bite is not very good;
  • Autumn is the very time that is called the “opening of the season” for fishing, because the beginning of September is usually called the period when the fish begin to be active. In autumn you can fish not only on lakes, but also on rivers;
  • In winter the fishing is very good. This is probably the most successful time, during which you can catch a lot of fish, especially such as grayling and taimen;
  • In the spring, the fishing season comes to an end. And although spawning begins in early May, already at the end of the month, as many sources say, you can’t expect a good bite;

Fishing bases

Many fishermen today prefer to resort to the services of fishing bases. On their territory there is everything for a comfortable stay, overnight stay and there are not a huge number of vacationers, this is especially true for the summer period. Let's look at several popular databases.

Cordon "Samysh"

This base is located in the northern part of Lake Teletskoye. Here, on a large area, there are only three houses made of wooden beams. Previously, there was a mine on this site. Magnificent nature and excellent fishing await every fisherman.

You need to navigate the location by the village of Iogach. From here to “Samysh” is only 10 kilometers. Meals for guests are provided three times a day at the cafe. The following services are also provided:

  1. The Russian bathhouse is flooded.
  2. Excursions are organized.
  3. For those who don't like fishing, there is a beautiful beach in the summer.
  4. Shore and boat fishing available.

In the summer, guests are picked up by a bus (hereinafter referred to as a boat), and in the winter, by a snowmobile from the village of Iogach. The bus can be ordered from Novosibirsk, Barnaul and other cities. Transfer is paid.

Camping "Altyn-Tuu"

To get to the Altyn-Tuu camping site, which is located on the southern shore of Lake Teletskoye at the mouth of the Chulyshman River, you need to get to the village of Artybash, and then go on a journey by water from the pier. There is another route, according to which you need to cross the Katu-Yaryk pass, and from Cape Kyrsai go on a boat trip.

The following work on the base:

  • cottages;
  • bungalow;
  • Russian bath;
  • cafe;
  • MTS cellular communication.

In the summer, there are entertainment programs for tourists both on the beach and in the taiga. It is thanks to the extensive professional program that it will be interesting not only for fishermen, but also for their family members and friends. The price of the tour includes three meals a day, accommodation and a visit to the bathhouse.

Boarding house "Silver Coast"

For those traveling from afar, this option will appeal. The fact is that, having reached the village of Iogach, you don’t have to go anywhere. The Serebryany Bereg boarding house is located on the very edge of the village, the place is very beautiful and quiet.

Of course, after relaxing here, you can go by boat a little further. But there are fishermen who have a great time on the shores of Iogach. On the territory of the boarding house there are:

The main advantage of the holiday is the beautiful nature and fishing at the highest level. This is precisely why people come here from afar. Every year you can meet guests not only from Russian cities, but also from Kazakhstan. Lake Teletskoye is the pearl of the region!

Fishing for burbot

Specimens of this fish species are distinguished by their large number; burbot inhabits the southern side of the reservoir especially densely.

He begins to reproduce offspring in the winter, in January. This process is lengthy and ends only in March.

You can fish with a spinner, as well as with nets. The peculiarity of this fish is its color, which changes depending on the depth of the dive.

Sig Pravdina

It belongs to the salmon species and is its smallest representative: the length of this fish does not exceed 17 centimeters, lies deep and, like the Telets whitefish, begins to fatten in mid-summer, emerging to the surface of the lake.

Large concentrations of Pravdin whitefish are observed before spawning.

Fishing on the Katun River: places and features

One of the great rivers of Russia, the Katun, flows through the Altai Mountains and taiga areas. Its length is 688 km. It is famous for its rapids and difficult passages for fans of extreme water sports. In addition to tourists, Katun attracts many fishermen to its shores. Where is the best place to look for fish, and what kind on the Katun River, we will share with you in this review.

The main places on the river that attract both local and visiting fishermen are the Upper Katun. The places here are wild and practically impassable by land transport. There are a number of tour companies that are ready to deliver by air using a helicopter to the most remote points of Altai. Experienced guides will guide you along the entire route from the casting point to the camp itself. Numerous small rivers that flow into the main channel of the Katun, rich in the most popular and interesting fish, will be your main trophies. Grayling, taimen, lenok, whitefish reach trophy sizes in these places, which prefer clean water and live only exclusively in mountain rivers. Despite the fairly high cost of such tours, there are a lot of people who want to merge with the taiga nature.

Middle waters of Katun

Descending from the upper reaches of the Katun, its middle part is no less popular among fishermen and tourists. The places here are less wild, but you can count on catching large taimen or grayling.

Cases have been recorded by local old-timers when they managed to catch the “master” of Siberian rivers - taimen, weighing more than 60 kg. Grayling, which is famous for its violent character when fishing. Often caught on a hook weighing 2.5 - 2.8 kg and more than 60 cm long.

In winter and late autumn, the main catch of fishermen is burbot. It is caught using girders or using a homemade method - “snitch”. The Katun River is rich in this predator, which is valued for its dietary meat and, of course, its liver is of great value. In addition to burbot, you can catch a number of other rare but very tasty fish: lenok, dace, ide.

In the Lower Katun, rare species of Siberian fauna are practically not found. Here they mainly hunt for pike, perch, and pike perch. Peaceful fish species: bream, crucian carp, roach.

At the confluence of the Biya and Katun the Ob is formed. This is the moment when one of the large and popular rivers is replaced by an equally famous body of water. The Ob is rich in a variety of predatory and peaceful fish, but more about this river in the next review.

What kind of fish is found in Katun

Rocky glacier-fed rivers have insufficient primary productivity and food supply. Hard soil, cold water and fast currents determine constantly low levels of benthos, plankton and aquatic plants, which play a key role in the normal development of young animals. Such conditions are not suitable for most representatives of the ichthyofauna from the carp and salmon families, which determine the species diversity of Siberian reservoirs.

Fish in the Katun from the upper reaches to the end of the middle section is represented by a dozen taxa. These include:

  • lenok (grows up to 60-70 cm and weighs up to 5-6 kg);
  • taimen (150-200 cm/60-80 kg);
  • grayling (40-45 cm/1.5-1.8 kg);
  • dace (30-40 cm/0.5-0.8 kg);
  • burbot (60-80 cm / 15-20 kg);
  • Siberian char (35-50 cm / 1.3-1.5 kg);
  • river minnow (10-15 cm / 80-150 g);
  • perch (40-50 cm / 1.5-2 kg);
  • Siberian bullfly (10-12 cm / 20-30 g);
  • variegated sculpin (8-12 cm / 20-25 g).

Fishing on the Katun River in high altitude conditions means hunting for grayling, which in quantitative terms predominates over other species. Also ubiquitous are dace, sculpin gobies (uninteresting due to their small size) and burbot, which is a nocturnal predator, requires special gear, and constantly stays near the bottom under the cover of stones. The remaining fish are regularly caught as bycatch, but have uneven and small populations. This is especially true for perch and the river “monster” - taimen.

In the lower reaches of the Katun (from Chemal and further to the lower reaches) the composition of fish expands significantly. Bream, pike, carp, gold and silver crucian carp, ide, ruffe, roach, pike perch, pike perch, and gudgeon appear. The most densely populated area is the mouth area from Maima to the Ob, which gradually acquires a flat character and is the historical habitat of sturgeon, nelma, and sterlet. The most common taxon is the Siberian dace.

Fishing on Lake Teletskoye

There are rare subspecies characteristic only of the region. This is a handsome taimen. They catch him with a spinning rod. It is extremely difficult to attract a giant from the shore, so it is better to try your luck in trolling, armed with strong gear and buried wobblers. During the feeding period, in spring and autumn, taimen are caught in the tributaries of Lake Teletskoye.

Fishing, especially in summer, also attracts fly fishermen. They come to enjoy the hefty trophies of grayling. The species is distributed throughout the entire reservoir, often staying near river mouths. They are caught using artificial flies and live insects, earthworms.

Valuable prey is lenok (or uskuch). A species of the salmon family, even taimen is inferior in taste to it. Only a professional can catch a lenok with a fishing rod or donka. That's why we miss a special trophy.

Numerous fish – Teletsky whitefish. Locals call it “herring” because of its resemblance to this species. But it belongs to the salmon family. Like taimen, it is caught using a spinning rod. Lures - wobblers and silicone twisters and vibrotails.

Teletsky whitefish

Anglers enjoy catching Taurus dace. It is found throughout Lake Teletskoye, but more along the southern shores. It rarely enters rivers flowing from a reservoir, so it is not advisable to look for dace there. It is better to choose light float rods from the gear. Due to the characteristics of the coastline, fishing from a boat will be more effective. But it’s not just the float that is popular with local anglers. Dace can also be caught by fly fishing. Dry flies and nymphs show excellent results. For bait, dace prefers animal bait: worms, maggots. And during the period of mass emergence of insects, it will not refuse them either.

In autumn, pike fishing is active on Lake Teletskoye. In these amazingly beautiful and virgin places it grows to impressive sizes. It is better to catch it, like perch, with a spinning rod and use rotating and silicone baits.

Fishing on Lake Teletskoye in summer

You can only fish on the left bank, since the right bank is occupied by the State Altai Nature Reserve, where it is prohibited. You also need to know that taimen (up to 50 kg, up to 2 m long) is a representative of the Red Book of Altai and its fishing is prohibited. If caught, it should be released immediately.

It is dangerous to go out alone in a boat. Due to the vastness of the reservoir, the unpredictable weather on it (changes from calm to storm in a few minutes), it is better to hire a boat together with a local resident who knows the “intricacies” of the object, the fishing spots on it, and will show you the sights during the trip.

Interesting species to catch:

  • grayling, growing up to 800 g;
  • “giant” (up to 5 kg) lenok;

Lenok

  • local whitefish, the average weight of which is usually small compared to other fish species (300 g);
  • 6-kilogram burbot;
  • a lot of pike, among which there are small pike (up to 1 kg) and 10-kg trophies.

The main gear is spinning. Grayling is also caught by fly fishing, using artificial flies, earthworms, and live insects as bait. This fish is the most common in Lake Teletskoye, and therefore constitutes the main catch. Float rods are used to catch local dace. Bait: maggots, worms.

Fishing is possible only in the northern part, where the village of Artybash is located and most of the bases and infrastructure are concentrated. The southern one is poorly developed by fishermen; savage tourists hunt there more often, for whom a tent is better than any good of civilization.

Winter fishing on Lake Teletskoye

Only the northern part freezes. The south, that is, the deepest water area, is rarely covered with ice. This happens in severe frosts about once every three years.

In November-December, winter fishing enthusiasts flock to the coast. Some go for pike and perch. These species are everywhere caught from the ice using medium spoons and balancers. The pike goes well on the girders. You don’t need to know any special tricks to catch predators in these places.

But there is also a special category - those who are attracted to burbot fishing. They are caught using baits that imitate fry. They should be silver in color, from 5 cm in size. Burbot responds well to balance beams. The predator will not miss a real fish, so it is better to catch it with live bait. Effective bait is ruff and gudgeon. When choosing a bait, remember that burbot will not look towards a sluggish and stale fish.

The predator is also actively caught using traditional girders. But they need to be installed where this fish has already been caught before. Once hooked, a burbot will not sit quietly and wait to be pulled out of the water. He will resist. The anglers are trying to catch it by the gills while still in the hole; a hook will come in handy.

Spearfishing on Lake Teletskoye

Impossible without special permission from the fisheries inspection. This requirement was established by the Republic Act in 2004.

Lake Teletskoye

Description of Lake Teletskoye

In the huge basin of the northeastern part of Altai, at the junction with the Western Sayan Mountains, at an altitude of 434 meters above sea level, there is one of the beautiful lakes of the Altai Territory - Teletskoye. Around it there are steep mountain slopes, sheer cliffs, lush vegetation, various kinds of beaches and picturesque places that you want to visit again and again.

The maximum depth of the lake is 325 meters, and its length reaches 77.8 kilometers. An interesting fact about its shape: if you look from above, you can see the letter G turned in the opposite direction. Teletskoye Lake is surrounded by two forests at once. The first is located on the south side and has a length of 50 kilometers, and the second is in the north, its length is 28 kilometers.

Fishing on Lake Teletskoye

Now we can move on to the main point - fishing. To begin with, it is worth noting that there are rare subspecies of fish that are characteristic of this region. For example, you can highlight taimen, which is best hunted with a spinning rod. This giant swims to the shore extremely rarely, so it’s better to try your luck from a boat, armed with tackle, deep-sea wobblers and iron patience.

It is worth adding that the success of fishing on Lake Teletskoye will largely depend not only on the equipment chosen, but also on the time of year. Considering that each species of fish living here has its own increased and decreased activity during certain periods. Therefore, it is worth talking separately about summer and winter fishing.

Summer fishing

Before you go fishing to Lake Teletskoye, it is worth remembering that fishing is only possible on the left bank, since the State Altai Nature Reserve is located on the right bank. Due to the vastness of the reservoir and unpredictable weather, it is best not to go out on the boat alone. It makes more sense to take a boat and one of the locals, so as not to waste time looking for a suitable place.

Spinning rods are best suited for fishing. Of the most interesting fish, they can catch grayling, which grows up to 800 g, and also, if you are lucky, you can catch a large lenok, up to 5 kg. Grayling can also be caught here by fly fishing, and artificial flies, live insects or earthworms are suitable as bait. Float rods are good for hunting dace.

Winter fishing

It is best to fish on the north side in winter, since the south freezes extremely rarely, only once every three years. From November to December you can see groups of winter fishing enthusiasts on the coast. Everyone wants to catch pike and perch. They are well caught from the ice using balancers and medium-sized spoons. You don’t need to know any special subtleties, so standard equipment is enough.

Separately, burbot fishing can be noted. It is caught using lures similar to fry. For fishing to be successful, they must be at least 5 cm in size with a silver tint. Burbot also responds well to balance beams. It is worth remembering that predators will never miss tasty fish and therefore live bait fishing is best suited here. The most effective baits include ruff and gudgeon. It is advisable that they are not sluggish and fresh, otherwise the burbot simply will not look in their direction.

How to get there

There is no commercial fishing on Lake Teletskoye, so both beginners and professional amateurs can try their luck. It is worth knowing an important detail - gasoline supplies must be good, since in these places it is difficult to get it, and if it is found, it will be quite expensive.

It doesn’t matter what transport you use, you first need to get to the nearest large city - Gorno-Altaisk. From here the nearest shores of the lake are just a stone's throw away. Upon arrival, you need to move to the village of Artybash, this is where the first lake shores where you can fish will begin.

Origin and description of Lake Teletskoye

Most scientists are inclined to believe that it appeared as a result of natural processes directly related to the tectonic activity of the earth’s crust. Experts have two versions of the genesis of Stone Bay: a meteorite fall; collapse of a nearby rock. The first is supported by numerous fragments of stones with traces of melting on the surfaces.

The body of water was called Teletsky 4 hundred years ago, named after the Turkic Teles tribes. He owes this to the Russian pioneers. Before that, local residents used to have Golden Lake, Altyn-Kol.

Description

The length of the lake is impressive - 77.8 km with a small (0.6...5.2) width (it is limited by mountain slopes). In the northern part the lake is stretched in the direction west - east, in the southern part - along the meridian. Between them there is a sharp (90°) channel turn.

From north to east, the water surface is bordered by picturesque ridges: Abakansky, Shapshalsky, popular among vacationers Korbu and Iolgo in the southwest. All along there are sheer, steep cliffs. There are very few flat banks. Most have slopes close to vertical, steep, cut by gorges, with picturesque bays.

The lake has two bays of significant area - Kamginsky, Kyginsky, in which almost all the fish from the reservoir spawn. There are wide reaches in the southern and northern parts. Lake Teletskoye is divided into two parts: northern and southern. The shores differ in the structure and nature of the bottom, and weather conditions. The climate has a peculiar, unique regime. The weather changes several times a day.

The largest tributary is the Chulyshman River. Around the reservoir there is a whole network of small rivers and lakes, there are more than 300 of them.

These are the sights of Altyn-Kol. Every year thousands of vacationers come here, attracted by the beautiful nature of the mountain slopes and numerous waterfalls. Some are large, some are small, but all deserve attention. The most popular is Korbu. The road to it is paved with wooden boards, which does not violate the integrity of the vegetation cover. The beauty of these places evokes romance and involuntarily makes you believe in fantastic stories associated with them.

Climate

The climate within Lake Teletskoye is continental. The peculiarity is the difference in climatic characteristics in opposite areas. In the northern part, the temperature is 4 °C...5 °C lower than in the southern part. The latter receives 2 times less precipitation. A rare and dangerous phenomenon is observed here: during the day, the rocks heat up under the sun, and at night, they cool and crack so much that stones break off and fly away at sufficient speed.

The latitudinal part from Cape Azhi to Artybash, characterized by shallow depths and narrowness, is frozen in winter. On the meridional, deep, it appears less often - every third year. So transparent that you can see the bottom through it in coastal areas with depths of 5...6 m.

Winds blow in spring and autumn. A distinction is made between the downstream, which has a latitudinal direction and blows from Artybash, and the upstream, from the mouth of Chulyshman along the meridian. The winds are so strong that the waves and surf that arise under their influence lead to the cessation of navigation - it is impossible to disembark people from watercraft onto the shore.
