All about the ZipBaits Orbit 80 wobbler

Those spinners who fish primarily using twitching will certainly be interested in learning about such a wobbler as the ZipBaits Orbit 80. This is one of the most popular wobblers, which allows you to go home with prey even when all other baits do not produce results. Let's take a closer look at this bait!

Description of the wobbler

ZipBaits Orbit is made in Japan. It belongs to minnow type wobblers. This type of wobbler has an elongated body shape. Many wobblers of this class do not have their own game. At the same time, ZipBaits Orbit is able to play even on a uniform retrieve. Here we should remember that there are only two modifications of this wobbler. One of them is equipped with a small deepening blade. This wobbler is called Shallow Runner (SR)

. It operates in a depth range from 0.5 to 1 meter. A wobbler with a large blade is already called Deep Runner (DR). It is capable of working at depths from 1 to 1.5 meters. Both of these wobblers are great for twitching. But Shallow Runner still feels a little more confident here. Deep Runner is already suitable for deeper places. In addition, ZipBaits Orbit 80 DR shows excellent results when trolling. Here the wobbler can provoke almost any predator to attack.

A good bait would be meaningless without quality hooks, and in this regard, the ZipBaits Orbit 80 does everything right. The bait is equipped with high-quality tees from Owner. These hooks easily penetrate the bony pike's mouth and allow you to bring the prey ashore.

Main features of Orbit 80

Both shallow and deep running models are baits of the suspender type. Wobblers of this type are characterized by neutral buoyancy. Thus, when there is a pause in the retrieve, the wobbler does not float to the surface of the water, does not rush to the bottom, but stands motionless in place. Needless to say that such a feature leads to remarkable results? During the pause, an indecisive predator has the opportunity to quietly sneak up on the bait and examine it in more detail. Don’t think that a predator will notice the catch, since the external performance of the bait is excellent. Most often, a bite occurs either during a pause or at the moment when the wobbler begins to move after a pause.

It is worth noting the fact that the wobbler is available in a huge number of colors, and therefore absolutely every fisherman will be able to choose something for himself. A beginner should focus on two main types of colors. The first of them is a color that imitates a natural fish. Such a wobbler certainly will not be ignored by a predator. The second option involves purchasing baits that have a bright, provocative color. Sometimes success can be achieved only with the help of such bait, which arouses banal interest and even aggression in the predator. The coloring, which copies the color of the perch, stands somewhat apart. It is both a natural color and a provocative color. If we talk about the color schemes of the ZipBaits Orbit 80 wobbler, then this color scheme is designated “070”.

What distinguishes Orbit 80 from many of its competitors is the presence of a unique balancing system called Mag-Drive. It represents the axis along which the tungsten weight moves. There is also a magnet in the system. During casting, the load rushes into the tail of the wobbler, thereby giving it energy. The casting distance increases significantly. The fact that, due to the balancing system, the Orbit 80 wobbler never spins in flight also contributes to this. Of course, this fact also has a positive effect on casting distance. In practice, the Orbit 80 can be thrown approximately 10-15 meters further than a wobbler that has the original length and weight, but does not have a balancing system or has a balancing system of a different configuration.

Wiring

The Orbit 80 is simply designed for the jerky retrieve that is typical for twitching. This applies to both the SR modification and the DR modification. The higher the temperature of the water in the reservoir, the faster the wiring of the Orbit 80 wobbler should be. This is explained by the fact that at high temperatures the predator is quite active, and therefore the wiring should be of an appropriate nature. But still, the wobbler reveals itself most fully in the spring and especially in the autumn (deep autumn).

The fact is that at this time the water temperature decreases slightly. The predator becomes slower. During such a period, he needs more time to decide whether to attack an object. This is where the main feature of the wobbler, which is its neutral buoyancy, comes to the aid of the fisherman. If in the warm season you can perform jerking retrieves without pauses or alternate jerks with long pauses, then in cold water you need to increase the duration of the pauses. The Orbit 80 performs best when retrieved, when two consecutive jerks alternate with a pause lasting about three seconds. If the predator is active, then the duration of the pause can be reduced. But if the predator refuses to attack the wobbler, then the duration of the pause should, on the contrary, be increased. As we said above, a food object hanging in the water column will certainly attract the attention of a predatory fish and force it to attack.

Fishing locations on Orbit 80

The places for fishing with wobblers of the SR and DR modifications are largely similar. These can be various bays, oxbows of rivers, coastal edges, places among thickets of aquatic vegetation and near various natural and artificial shelters in which predatory fish can hide. At the same time, the SR modification is better suited for shallow water areas. But the DR modification comes to the fore when the depth at the fishing site increases. You can fish with particular success using a boat. Because it is with the help of a boat that you can get to the most attractive parts of the reservoir.

Hunting objects

The first and most common trophy of an angler fishing with the ZipBaits Orbit 80 is pike. So if you are planning to catch this particular predatory fish, you can safely purchase the bait under review. In addition, large perch, pike perch, taimen and even catfish do not miss the wobbler. But the same pike perch and catfish usually stand in deep areas, where even the deep-sea version of the bait is not able to reach. The exception is night fishing, when these predators go out into the riffles. This is where you can catch them on Orbit 80.

Thoughtful design, high quality materials and workmanship, as well as practical reliability, undoubtedly indicate that the ZipBaits Orbit 80 wobbler should be in your bait box. And the presence of both shallow and deep-reaching versions of the wobbler will allow you to catch predatory fish in almost any fishing conditions!

Anti-crisis alternatives ZipBaits Orbit 80 SP-SR

Evgeny Shirokov, Ekaterinburg

Every spinner experiences the winter period differently. Some people stop going fishing until better times, while others can’t scratch their “fishing itch” and start playing tricks with baits and retrieves in open areas of water. Winter spinning became accessible to me thanks to the Iset River, which flows within the city of Yekaterinburg. In winter, the water level becomes low and the water becomes clearer. The fish becomes very passive and it becomes more difficult to get them to attack the bait. The main object of fishing remains medium-sized pike. Since the bottom of the city river is fraught with many “surprises,” snags and cliffs are inevitable. Parting with expensive, famous wobblers forced us to look for an alternative...

So, in the conditions of a small passive pike, I put the following concepts: a minnow class wobbler with neutral buoyancy (Suspending), 70 - 90 mm in size. The first thing that comes to mind is the famous ZipBaits Orbit 80 SP-SR . The wobbler needs no introduction and is really very good, but I personally would be very sorry to leave it on the fittings or snags. So I decided to try something similar and inexpensive for comparison: Strike Pro Inquisitor 80 SP and Kosadaka MASCOT XS 80F .

I'll start with the Inquisitor. This is my first wobbler from Strike Pro , and my first impression of it was very positive. The wobbler really has neutral buoyancy, and literally “freezes” in the water column (we still need to look for such honest suspenders!). The declared depth of 0.7 - 1.2 meters and weight - 8.3 grams do not differ significantly from the Orbitov ones (0.8 - 1.0 meters and 8.5 grams). Let me emphasize that the tees on the Inquisitor are different (the one in the tail is smaller), and the characteristic hump on the Orbit on the bottom of the wobbler is missing. I liked the quality of the matte finish; in terms of color, I preferred acid (popularly referred to as “Matt-Tiger”). As it turned out, I wasn’t the only one who liked the Inquisitor: literally on the first casts, a small pike neatly lands on a slow twitch with pauses of up to 4-5 seconds. A promising start!

But I didn’t want to rely on one wobbler all day, since there were a couple more Mascots from Kosadaka waiting to swim in my box. Kosadaka wobblers for three years now. The overall impression of them is positive, especially the price and close similarity with famous wobblers. And I already had the 80th Mascot in the “Perch” color (PC), but I simply didn’t have time to really try it out (I hadn’t used metal leashes before, for which I paid for it after biting a toothy one).

Outwardly, Mascot is more similar to Orbit than Inquisitor, but there is one serious difference: Mascot has positive buoyancy (Floating), so during a 4-5 second pause during twitching, it floats up like a cork. For fishing in the summer, when the fish are quite active, such long pauses are useless, but in the era of “dead winter” this is the only way to unbalance the local pike and force it to attack the bait. Therefore, in order to make a suspender out of a floating Mascot, you need to make the wobbler a little heavier. I achieved this by using steel leads 12-15 cm long, and also by replacing the middle tee with a larger one. The result was not long in coming.

I rate the quality of Kosadaki's paintwork as average, but the color scheme is excellent (at least I really like it). For myself, I chose models in natural GT color and LME color (I was attracted by the hologram on the sides and expressive eyes).

In conclusion, I want to say that the Inquisitor can be considered an independent wobbler, and the Mascot is a successful replica of a famous brand. The alternatives to Orbit discussed above are capable of catching fish well, if these same fish live in the water. Give freedom to the fish, at least sometimes, and it will give you memories...
