Catching perch with a spinner, how to make this spoon with your own hands

Ice winter fishing for perch using maropedka

Not many fishermen express a sincere desire to “hunt” specifically for perch in the winter. After all, this fish is extremely restless. Flocks of it swarm here and there - throughout the entire water area, and it is not always possible to find out exactly where the voracious striped pirates are now.

This already difficult process is further complicated by the fact that winter fishing is by no means easy. Heavy, uncomfortable clothes, drills, other things and the need to move through high, unsteady snow do not cause joy even for the most avid lovers of the winter cold.

And wandering on ice for kilometers on end is not the most pleasant pleasure. Moreover, it still cannot be fully considered a rational activity. If in the summer and (or) off-season it is enough to simply walk 10 meters to the side and throw your spinning rod with one light but sure movement of the hand, then in winter, for the same action you will have to get up from your favorite place, drill a new hole, sit down and wait a while — check how cool this place is.

In winter, perch, even the larger ones, often go to the depths of the water area, lie down on the bottom, where they lazily bask in the relatively warm water, while they have no particular desire to swim on top, because cold water is for the striped fish. worst enemy.

And if young animals gather in groups and rush right under the ice - under the noses of fishermen - then large individuals play a careful game, wait, watch closely, they have already lived many years to be rash and stupid. One wrong move and their days will be numbered, the striped veterans know this very well and do not want to part with their lives so easily.

Even clever summer baits may not be effective enough against seasoned old sea robbers, let alone the much more primitive methods and tools for winter ice fishing used by fans of winter fishing.

Many ice fishermen constantly take small perches out of the hole, which always go where they are not asked and where they are not expected. And in very rare cases, the muzzle of a well-fed humpback whale appears from the water, which, frightening and surprising the fisherman with its outstanding dimensions, reluctantly and with difficulty crawls through an opening that is too small for this carcass.

And if the “weed” of small perches is not the main goal for almost any angler, then those who are fishing for large striped underwater predators can be pleased with the recently appeared spinner called maroped. This simple invention will help to stir up even the least active and interested humpback whale thanks to its unusual shape and behavior in the water.

Fishing with a spinner bait

Catching perch in winter with a spinner spoon is a very entertaining process that can diversify the course of ice fishing and provide the fisherman with an impressive catch. Indeed, this lure acts as a kind of magnet, to which whole flocks of striped predators from all over the area immediately flock, lining up in line in order to drag this desired unusual prey with them to the bottom. But alas, unfortunately for them, they themselves are the prey here.

For its excellent qualities, this lure was jokingly nicknamed a real “vacuum cleaner”, which allows you to “suck” fish out of the hole literally one after another. And not every one of them will be characteristically small in size; there are also quite worthy specimens. In general, the maroped fish specializes in predatory fish: mainly perches bite on it, but sometimes “Bolsheviks” like pike and (or) pike perch also pay attention.

This lure has become widely known since 2014, when a sports fisherman specializing in ice fishing named Alexander Vorobyov, also known under the nickname “Technologist,” revealed the secret of making a spinner exclusively on his own, clearly illustrating the process itself.

He based his invention on the Matveychikov spinner, the Rombik spinner, and also a spinner called TorpedKA (MAROPEDKA). Despite the simplicity of its manufacture and design, the maroped fish in practice has shown its phenomenal attractiveness for representatives of the ray-finned fish family.

This specimen differs from Matveychikov’s spinner in a more straight shape, while the first one has a slightly curved shape. A classic example of such a spinner looks like this:

  • The wing spread of this spinner ranges from 90 to 120 millimeters
  • its length ranges from 30 to 45 and in rare cases can be slightly more or less
  • average weight is quite heavy - 6.5 grams

Initially, the maroped was created as a small spoon for fishing for small perch. However, measures were subsequently taken to create a larger sample for catching hefty humpback whales. But in this field, many home-made people were disappointed, because when the proportions of the spoon change, many of its key properties also change. Therefore, when creating a maropedka, you must adhere to a number of rules that should not be neglected.

Reviews from experienced fishermen

Aleksandr noticed that such bait can be easily used to catch any predatory fish. Whereas ideally it is suitable for pike and perch; Grade:

Yago actually created a homemade product from an ordinary skewer. Of course, I had to try, but the result is not even bad. Although it was necessary to process it with hammer drills, holding the workpiece in clamps; Grade:

Sergey advised us to pay special attention to shaping the spinner. After all, he didn’t do everything very well along the way, and the bait constantly got wrapped up and went into a tailspin because of the tee. Little pleasant;

Grade:

Mikha was happy for the men who could create such unique fishing devices on their own. He's committed to doing something similar this year for sure. After all, the Internet portal is full of various video instructions and step-by-step guides with photographs for better quality work; Grade:

Helena also appreciated the spinner. After creating such a homemade product, she decided to see how a predator would behave when he saw this work of art. And I was pleasantly surprised: the pike immediately watched the spoon, and then quickly grabbed it. Grade:

Today it doesn’t matter whether you buy baits or make them yourself. In any case, you have a good opportunity to catch a large number of fish and feed it to the whole family. To do this, you just need to devote your attention to creating the spinner and “it’s in the bag.” Rest assured, your efforts will definitely pay off! Happy fishing!

How to make a maropedka with your own hands

The Maropedka, which has already become a classic form, implies a body up to 3 centimeters long with a degree of bending of the edges within a radius of 90 millimeters. This type of spoon does its job perfectly at a depth of one to three meters inclusive. In order to increase the depth at which perch fishing will take place, the length and weight of the spoon itself should be increased. These adjustments are quite simple and easy to implement even for those who do not have practical experience in such activities.

Tools:

  • Soldering iron
  • Metal file
  • Pliers
  • Calipers
  • Ruler
  • Metal scissors
  • Bench vice

So, having prepared the necessary tools, you can proceed directly to the operation itself:

  • From a metal body (brass, copper, bronze, stainless metal or silver), whose thickness should be on average 0.5 millimeters, you need to cut a spoon of the desired shape.
  • Next, you need to use a bench vice to carefully bend the edges at the required angle - from 60 to 120 degrees (as noted above, on average - 90).
  • Using a file, bring the crown into the desired shape.
  • Using a simple steel wire, create a hole for the fishing line and hook.
  • It is necessary to treat the inside of the crown with soldering acid, after which it is necessary to completely fill it with solder.
  • Grind down the edges of the spoon to the required proportions.

If desired, you can polish the resulting product or leave the spoon untouched. Subsequently, you will need to connect a hook with a droplet to it. The classic Owner No. 18-20 is quite suitable for this.

However, this is not the end. The finished spinner will need to be tested in real conditions. Her playing should be fast and/or smooth. It depends on how much the resulting maropedka itself weighs. If it falls flat, then to eliminate this “illness” you will need to reduce the amount of tin. In this form, the spinner will be flatter and its play will become significantly more stabilized.

Useful tips and lifehacks

  1. In order to make the process of making maropeds easier for yourself, you need to put a paper drawing on top of the metal, which will then be used for carving.
  2. The stability of her play will depend on how narrow her wings are. The solder should be increased on those spinners that are distinguished by their small size. In the opposite case. there should be less tin.
  3. The finished spoon must be coated on top with a special waterproof varnish in order to avoid the process of metal oxidation that will inevitably occur from constant contact with water. If you carry out certain manipulations with the center of gravity of the spinner, you can achieve a change in the game of the spinner.

So, the miracle spinner is ready. It promises to make winter ice fishing interesting, and most importantly, catchy. She needs to play rhythmically, but smoothly, sharply lowering the spoon down, and then immediately lifting it up - then the process is repeated until the desired result is obtained. The perch will be attracted to it one after another, in an attempt to feast on a hitherto unknown delicacy.

If, when using a maropedka, the perch responds with ignorance, you can be sure that the striped hunter is either not here at all, or he is currently living in some other part of the reservoir. As a rule, perches prefer snaggy areas covered with tall grass, where they can be found even in the winter season. And if small schooling individuals prefer to lead an active lifestyle, then with the help of this miracle spoon it will be possible to catch even large humpback whales at a depth of up to 3 meters.

With the arrival of the first cold weather, large representatives of river perch rarely become active, but with the help of this simple but incredibly effective method you can attract even them, and in such numbers as it is difficult to imagine. Small and medium-sized specimens will be caught every couple of minutes, during which a five-liter bucket can be filled in a very short time.

What kind of fish can you catch with this spoon?

With the help of such bait as “maroped” you can catch almost all types of predatory fish. But the model will be most effective in hunting for perch and pike. Here she has no equal, especially when it comes to the winter period.

The technique of playing this type of equipment is very simple and uncomplicated. In this case, it is worth lowering the spoon at a distance of 10-20 mm from the surface of the bottom of the reservoir and lifting it with a sharp swing of the rod. At the same time, the tackle will glide and fall down again.

Next, you should wait a few seconds and start again with the previously performed manipulations. Moreover, it is worth noting that a bite is most often characteristic of a pause, when the bait is in an immobilized state. This is considered the simplest way to play a spinnerbait. Other options exist, but the method we presented is the most popular.
