How and what to use to catch trout on a platform in winter

When is the best time to catch trout?

Trout is very cautious and distrustful of the fisherman. Therefore, fishing for this fish requires the fisherman to have appropriate endurance and skill. In winter, her attentiveness and caution only intensify, so fishing becomes significantly more difficult. This predator reacts literally to every movement and minimal sound, “escaping” from the ice to the bottom in the shortest possible time.

In winter, like many fish, it is in a somewhat inhibited state and is not particularly active. Rarely eats. In non-freezing reservoirs, it continues to delight with bites. In other places, fish are especially active when the ice melts, when the first clearings appear.

Trout bite in winter:

  • In December, trout are not particularly active.
  • In January, the fish bite improves somewhat.
  • In February, a real fish bite awaits you, which turns into eating. This is the optimal time for trout fishing.

However, it is important to note that these rules and characteristics are conditional. Trout behave completely differently depending on weather conditions, characteristics of the reservoir, etc. Therefore, there can be an active bite in December, January, and February.

Tackle for Trout. What to catch trout with?

Trout can be caught both with a spinning rod and a float rod. If you are fishing with a fishing rod, then you need to choose gear with the longest possible rod, suitable for long casts.

Trout is the most cautious river fish, and it is best to cast not from the very edge of the bank, but standing a little further away or hiding in the coastal bushes.

If you are interested in trout fishing with a spinning rod, then you should choose rigid rods 2-3 meters long. A high-quality reel is very important; it should reel in the fishing line without the slightest delay, and also have a reliable reverse lock.

It is better to have different types of spinners; experienced fishermen claim that often fish, for unknown reasons, do not react to a particular type of spinner, but as soon as you replace it with another, the bite immediately begins.

You can also use wobblers, but the best ones are those that resemble trout in color. This bait is especially good in shallow waters. It is best to use monofilaments of fluorescent colors as fishing line.

Where to fish?

In most cases, plateaus are reservoirs with even depth and excellent relief. There are places for fishing prepared in advance, but it is important to choose a catchable place.

Trout is a fairly active predator, so during the day it constantly moves around the reservoir. However, there is a little trick that will help you find this fish faster. The fact is that trout like to be in places where water is supplied to the pond, here they can be found in large numbers. Here the fish is in the flow of water, not paying much attention to the surrounding situation, so it is important to throw the bait in a timely manner.

An equally successful place for fishing is a hole, and if you pay attention to the fact that there are not many holes on the pay zones, then fish like to settle in these places. If you find such a place, then the catch will definitely not disappoint you. Often trout can be found near the bridges.

It is important to note that, as noted earlier, trout are constantly on the move, so finding their staging area involves trial and error. There is no need to catch trout in old holes, because they usually don’t bite there; always make new ones.

More about paysites

Payment plans are very popular today. And this is not surprising, because fisheries stock reservoirs with all kinds of fish. And trout is no exception.

The most interesting thing about fishing in such reservoirs is that the fish here reach very large sizes - up to 75 cm, and a weight of more than 2 kg.

average price

Payments for such services vary. This is explained by the fact that it differs in the range of services that a fisherman needs. It can be:

  • cafe services
  • accommodation
  • gazebo rental
  • gear rental

The cost of services also depends on the time of fishing. So, an evening usually costs about 1000 rubles (on weekdays), half a day costs 1500 rubles (on weekdays). On weekends the price goes up.

Conditions and features

Many fishermen like the fishing conditions on paid platforms. And this is not surprising, there is usually a place nearby where you can relax, have a snack, the bite is active - fishing turns out to be more than comfortable.

It is worth noting the advantages of fishing on paid platforms:

  • The water areas are usually filled with rainbow trout.
  • You can rent a gazebo, a smokehouse, and rent gear.
  • In paid areas you can catch not only this predator, but also other types of fish.
  • Platniks are replenished with new fish, so there will always be a catch here.

How to catch trout using spinning?

Most often, catching river trout is done using a spinning rod. They cast a spinning rod, the current carries the bait, and the fisherman follows it along the shore.

You should only move downstream, because frightened fish always rush up and scare away the trout, which is higher up in places that have not yet been fished.

In addition, with this movement, the nozzle is located in front of the angler, and he does not have time to scare away the fish he is about to catch.

You should not approach closer than eight to ten meters to the place where the trout stands. It is also necessary to take into account that the fish may be frightened not only by the figure of the fisherman, but also by his shadow.

If there is a need to approach the water itself, then it is necessary to use various camouflage methods or move by crawling.

Tackle and equipment

You can choose the perfect time and place for fishing, however, if you do not choose the right fishing gear, your chance of catching trout will be significantly lower. Usually in winter trout are caught on:

  • Float rod.
  • For a winter fishing rod with a nod (jigs, spoons, balancers)
  • To the girders.

Let's consider these methods in more detail.

Fishing with a winter float rod

A float rod for winter trout fishing is adjusted so that its nozzle is located at a height of 20-30 cm above the bottom. This is explained by the fact that this way the trout will see it faster and attack.

Therefore, the mass of the float and the small pellet, which is located below the float, is selected so that when adding a nozzle, the equipment gradually sinks to the bottom. This is done on purpose because such movement is interesting for trout. In winter water the float and bites are good, so many people prefer to fish this way.

On a winter fishing rod with a nod

An equally popular method of trout fishing. If you want to use this tackle, you will definitely enjoy fishing. With a winter fishing rod with a nod, the angler is always in the process of fishing, playing with the bait, feeling bites.

When fishing with such a fishing rod, be careful not to leave it in place. Because, unlike a large number of other predators, trout attack without thinking. And strong enough that she can easily drag the fishing rod away.

Low-amplitude play with a jig allows you to arouse interest in trout and provoke a bite

To the girders

For fishing for this predator, standard girders are used. They are equipped with a fishing line whose thickness is 0.25-0.3 mm. A single hook with a long shank; if there are small trout in the water area, then small hooks can be used. It is important that the hook is absolutely sharp, because this predator has a very strong mouth. The leash is made as standard from durable flucarbon. The equipment is carried out with a sliding sinker, small (no more than 4 g).

Sometimes an ordinary fishing rod and a school ruler are enough to make a zherlitsa.

Narrow-bodied live bait or shrimp are used as bait; trout paste can also be used. The process of catching trout on girders is absolutely identical to catching pike or perch.

Important: in many regions there is a limit on the number of girders per fisherman. Make sure that this fishing method is not prohibited in the region where you plan to fish.

Useful tips for trout fishing in winter

  1. During the thaw, you can use the usual summer rig of a float rod, when the tip of the float is on the surface of the water, and the sinker is suspended near the bottom. The leash is made about 15 cm long. The hook with the nozzle should lie on the bottom.
  2. In cold weather, when a crust of ice quickly forms, the float sinks. The equipment is made similarly to that intended for catching trout from the bottom. It is also possible that a 10-centimeter leash with a hook is installed 5 cm above the sinker attached to the end of the main fishing line. Trout fishing line is used with a diameter of 0.2–0.25 mm, of good quality, since trout in farms reaches a weight of 3-5 kg. The hook is taken No. 3–8.
  3. Dung worms or subleaf worms are also excellent baits for trout. Several worms are placed on the hook, piercing them through the middle. But the most fantastic bait for winter trout fishing turned out to be an ordinary large bloodworm. This fish finds six to eight ruby larvae attached to a hook and lowered to the bottom quite quickly. She grabs them into her mouth very decisively and smoothly, but assertively, and takes the float under the water.
  4. If the depth at the fishing site is more than 3 meters, then the bait is delivered to the bottom using a feeder, which is filled with balls of steamed feed and opens 30–40 cm above the bottom.

Baits

For winter fishing for this predator, a wide selection of baits is used, the most common are:

  • Shrimps.
  • Worm.
  • Bloodworm or maggot.
  • Live bait.
  • Trout pastes.

These are the optimal baits for trout fishing, which will have a higher chance of catching this predator. Shrimp is a fairly versatile bait. You can catch both big and small fish with it. This is her favorite delicacy, but boiled shrimp are considered more suitable for fishing than raw shrimp.

Bloodworm is the best bait for winter trout. The worm and maggot are inferior both in vitality and in play.

Use live bait only if you want to catch a large trout; fish smaller than 500 grams will not bite on live bait.

Bloodworms, worms and maggots are standard baits and are great for attracting trout. True, in most cases it is small specimens, although sometimes large ones are caught.

You can buy trout paste at a fishing store. Its operating principle is in many ways similar to carp fishing with a boilie - it is a special bait for a specific type of fish. The chance of catching trout with it is quite high.

Bait for trout fishing

Trout paste
Trout is omnivorous and its diet includes both animal and plant foods. Consequently, baits for trout fishing with a float rod can be of different options. Among animal baits, fishing is promising for fry of the verkhovka, dung worm, maggot and bunch of bloodworms. Insects such as grasshoppers, flies and caterpillars will not be deprived of the attention of a predator if they are presented during the season of their departure or mass exit to the vicinity of the reservoir. Among inert animal baits, shrimp, crab and crayfish meat are popular.

Anglers consider cheese, canned sweet corn, black bread and boiled pearl barley to be the most successful vegetable baits. Particular attention should be paid to this type of artificial bait such as trout paste. They are produced using a special technology with attractants that actively attract predators to the fishing area by smell. Dumplings are rolled out of plastic paste or worms are molded and the bait is placed on a hook. The pastes are distinguished not only by diverse aromas, but also by aggressive exotic colors, among which intense pink shades are considered working colors in most trout reservoirs.

Lures

Use balancers as small as possible.
We recommend up to 4 cm. Very catchy - balancer. For trout, the most suitable size remains 4-6 cm. Important: the predator really loves a bright bead on the balancer. This is explained by the fact that the presence of the bead provokes it to bite, as a result of which the bite increases several times at once. The color range of balancers for trout fishing varies. It can be:

  • Silver with blue.
  • Green with silver.
  • Or just green.

However, it is worth noting that trout can be caught well with other colors. Therefore, take several balancers with you at once to select the most suitable one on the spot.

Also, trout can be easily caught using both lures and jigs.

Fishing techniques with jigs, balance beams, spinners

The essence of fishing with a balance beam, to put it briefly, comes down to giving the bait a figure-eight movement. To achieve this, “lift” it by moving your hand about 20 cm, and then return to its original position. As a result of this, the balancer, having made a figure-of-eight movement, returns back, thereby attracting fish. But you shouldn't constantly pull it. Remember about pauses, they are usually about 20 seconds. The predator is located at different depths, as a result of which it is necessary to fish every half meter of depth.

Lure fishing is very promising. But the spinner will have to be “played” differently. When lowered, the spinners deviate somewhat from the fishing line, go to the side, and when stopping, they gradually return to their place. For trout, it is preferable to use elongated spoons with painted eyes. The most suitable color is silver or copper.

The game itself is a sharp jerk a few centimeters to the top, and then a return to its place. As with fishing with a balance beam, the largest number of bites occur during pauses, so don’t forget about them. If the fish suddenly doesn’t bite, then you can put bait on the spoon.

We must not forget about the jig. This is a great bait that often produces great catches. The potential color, shape and size of a jig varies significantly. For trout this makes no difference. All jigs range from 3 to 8 g. In order to reduce the number of trips and empty hooks, it is preferable to choose models with a long shank and a long and sharp hook.

How to play with a jig?

To make fishing successful, play and experiment in fishing using all kinds of games. However, as in the situation with the balancer and the spinner, do not forget about the pauses. If you do not pay appropriate attention to this moment, you simply will not give the fish time to “bite”. Proven game for trout:

  • The jig slowly rises up and stops.
  • Then it drops down and stops again.

The movements are repeated until the fish bites. The speed of movement and play largely depends on the activity of the fish. The following indicators are used as standard:

  • The jig is raised and dropped by about 15 cm.
  • Pause about 20-25 seconds.

With this game you can attract even inactive fish, but do not forget about other types of bait games, because... each type works differently.

Important Features

When fishing for this predator, do not make noise under any circumstances.
This is due to the fact that it is a shy and cautious predator. The greatest chance of catching large trout will be when the reservoirs are free of ice - i.e. end of February, beginning of March. At the end of winter trout fishing is excellent on large insects.

The bait should glide through the water so it can attract trout. If you use an insect as bait, it is attached to a small hook that is completely hidden.

Final tips

  • When choosing a reservoir for trout fishing, evaluate when it was stocked with this predator. The fact is that if a trout has already lived in a reservoir for 2-3 years, then it has certain favorite places where it will remain throughout its life. This is where you can find trout (we talked about these places above).
  • While fishing, do not make noise or shout; when on ice, remember the safety rules and be careful.
  • If the trout has recently been introduced into a pond, it will constantly move around its entire perimeter. Therefore, it can be intercepted. To do this, find out the topography of the bottom, since it will mostly move along the edges.
  • Check with the huntsman, he will certainly know where the trout are caught.
  • Ask anglers for advice. Usually, they gather together at more promising fishing spots.
  • Determine the most promising place based on the old holes. If you have already caught trout here, then there is a high chance of catching it here again. However, for fishing it is better to make a new hole. Usually such places are located at the edges and pits.
  • Pay attention to fishing depth. The fact is that it is not always alone, so if the bite has stopped, then you can try to change the fishing depth. If this does not help, then you will have to change the location, bait or lure.

To summarize, I would like to say that fishing for trout on paid platforms is an exciting activity that will bring an excellent catch if you properly prepare for fishing: determine the fishing location, select the appropriate bait and lures, choose the fishing time. Then fishing will give you only positive emotions and good memories!

Spinning rod for trout

Well, in conclusion, I wanted to say a few words about what a spinning rod for chub should be like, to make it easier for you to choose or buy a fishing rod. Well, if you are a more or less experienced spinning player, you understand that the comfort of spinning tackle plays a very important role, and comfort is, first of all, the convenience and ease of spinning. But besides this, it is also necessary to pay attention to such characteristics of the spinning rod as test, action and length.

Of course, for different fishing conditions, one or another spinning rod will be better, so it is always better to have several rods in your arsenal. But, in principle, you can choose a universal spinning rod that is suitable for trout fishing on the platform.

Such a spinning rod must have the following characteristics:

  • Construction - medium;
  • Test - ultralight;
  • Length - 2.4-3.0 meters (to your taste).

These are the characteristics of a spinning rod that will be optimal for catching trout on paid ponds, and on streams and rivers such a spinning rod is quite capable of catching trout. True, on streams it will be more convenient to fish with a spinning rod 2.1 meters long. And on rivers, when fishing for large species of trout, the rod test, naturally, should be large.
