It also includes not so famous ones - “Zhukovsky” and “Bykovo”, “Chkalovsky” and “Ostafyevo”, “Myachkovo”. We will talk about how many airports there are in Moscow and their names in this article.

Such a large number of small and large airfields is explained by the growing demands of the capital. The city is growing, and so is its population. Therefore, the need for more different airports is only increasing. As a tourist city, Moscow receives a large number of foreigners who also prefer to travel by plane.

Main airports of the capital

What airports are there in Moscow? Probably the most correct answer to such a question would be – everything. Civil, military, international and others. Moscow is one of the largest metropolises on the planet, and besides this, it is also the capital of a huge country. Accordingly, this city is practically surrounded by airstrips for various purposes.

maps-moscow-ru.com

Of course, practically nothing is known about military and strategic airports, and the stories that appear periodically in the media are more reminiscent of rumors than reliable facts. The most famous air gates of the capital are considered to be:

  1. Sheremetyevo.
  2. Vnukovo.
  3. Domodedovo.
  4. Bykovo.
  5. Ramenskoye is the airport of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in the city of Zhukovsky.
  6. Chkalovsky.

Sheremetyevo

Like all international airports, Sheremetyevo is a large and modern station complex. This airport is one of the most popular and largest not only in Russia, but also in the world as a whole.

aviav.ru

In addition to the fact that the airport terminal is the most popular, it is also located closest to the city center in comparison with others. It is located in the north-west direction, less than 30 km from the central streets of the capital. There are two Moscow districts very close to the airport:

  • Khimki;
  • Lobnya.

Of course, Sheremetyevo is one of the main bases for aircraft. Several foreign carriers are also based here.

The complex consists of 6 terminals:

  1. “A” - “business flights” are concentrated here, for example, private planes with businessmen on board, airliners with political delegations, and other similar flights arrive here.
  2. “B” - the terminal is not functioning, moreover, it actually does not exist, since the building built during the Soviet years was demolished, and a new one has just begun to be erected.
  3. "C" - is currently partially closed, and is used only when there is excessive load in other terminals, the reason for the closure is the reconstruction of part of the building to connect with the future new terminal "B".
  4. “D” is currently the busiest terminal, where landings and takeoffs of airliners operating both domestic and international flights are concentrated.
  5. “E” is a part of the complex that has a special status; it exclusively serves flights of ships and liners of companies belonging to the SkyTeam alliance.
  6. “F” – flights are currently served here.

The buildings of terminals “D”, “E”, “F” are combined into a complex called Yuzhny. The Aeroexpress train arrives here, and there are transport stops and parking lots.

There are many airports in Moscow and the Moscow region that allow you to travel to anywhere in the world. Knowing their features and location, everyone can choose the most convenient option that meets personal requirements.

Domodedovo

The capital's second most popular airport. It takes longer to get to it from the central regions than to Sheremetyevo. The airport is located 45 km from the center of the capital, in a southeast direction.

topindoor.ru

Domodedovo is designed in some way unique. This terminal has parallel remote runways allowing multiple flights to take off and land at the same time.

It also has its own registration system, which is usually not immediately clear to people who find themselves within the walls of this airport terminal for the first time. She goes “through the islands”. This means that the airport terminal building has individual seats divided into sections. They are called “islands”.

There are 4 large “islands” each with 22 sections, there are 3 smaller “islands” with 20 sectional aisles and separate sections for luggage.

There is only one terminal, but the size of the building is sufficient, since everything inside is placed ergonomically and conveniently.

Vnukovo

This airport terminal is old and large. Construction began before the Great Patriotic War, in 1937. At the time the location seemed remote, but these days the town has grown. To get to the halls of Vnukovo, you will need to travel 10 kilometers from the Moscow Ring Road, from the southwest.

strana.ru

Many airlines are based here, including those that serve large corporations, such as Gazprom Avia. Of course, Vnukovo is the international air gateway of the capital, serving flights from all over the world.

The airport consists of three complexes. The first contains terminals:

  • “A” – terminal receiving passenger flights;
  • “B” – is under reconstruction, closed in 2021, but aircraft can land on the runways in emergencies;
  • “D” – accepts domestic flights from remote parts of the country.

Vnukovo-2 has state status. Government flights are serviced at this terminal, for example, the head of state flies from here.

The third complex serves:

  1. Business flights.
  2. Charters.
  3. Flights of officials.

For example, deputies, the capital’s leadership and many others fly from here. Roscosmos is also based here.

Big ring line BKL or third transfer circuit TPK

For the convenience of passengers, construction has begun on the Big Circle Line, which will significantly reduce travel time on the metro. Once it is fully built, passengers will not need to go to the center to transfer to the neighboring metro line. The BCL will relieve congestion on existing metro lines and help get from one area to another much faster.

BKL is the same line that was previously called the Third Transfer Circuit. When the Great Circle Line is fully completed, it will be approximately 67 km long. The metro line will have 31 stations and 21 interchanges to other subway and MCC stations.

On metro maps, the BKL is indicated by a turquoise color and the number “11”. The number “11A” on the diagram is the Kakhovskaya line, which will later become part of the BKL.

Note! At the moment Art. “Business Center” of the Solntsevskaya Line is temporarily closed due to ongoing work

First section of the Big Circle Line

On February 26, 2021, the first section of the BCL was opened from Petrovsky Park to the Business Center.

The section consists of the following stations:

  • “Business Center” (transfer to the Kalininsko-Solntsevskaya line, as well as the “Vystavochnaya” Filevskaya line).
  • “Shelepikha” (transfer to the Shelepikha MCC platform).
  • "Khoroshevskaya" (transfer to "Polezhaevskaya" Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya line and MCC Khoroshevo station).
  • "CSKA" "Petrovsky Park" (transfer to "Dynamo" Zamoskvoretskaya line).

Plans for the construction of the Big Circle Line

  • 2019 – commissioning of the section from Petrovsky Park station to Nizhnyaya Maslovka
  • 2020-2021 – trains will travel from Aviamotornaya to Rubtsovskaya and from Khoroshevskaya to Mnevniki
  • 2022 – trains will run from Rubtsovskaya to Nizhnyaya Maslovka, from Mnevniki to Nizhegorodskaya. The ring will close completely.

Ramenskoye

This airport is a base for planes and helicopters of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, in the region, near the city of Zhukovsky. This is 36 kilometers from the Moscow city limits. Aircraft tests are also carried out here.

zhukgsn.ru

However, the airport terminal is not closed at all - it operates as normal and accepts passenger flights. There is only one terminal, but the passenger flow is relatively small. This airport has a unique length of 5.4 km. This is one of the longest strips in the world. Thanks to this feature, Ramenskoye can accommodate absolutely any aircraft, regardless of its size and weight.

Zhukovsky

Taxi to Moscow airports

This is the newest of Moscow airports; it officially came into operation in May last year. It is located in the Ramensky district of the Moscow region. You can get to the airport by trains and express buses, as well as by taxi.

Zhukovsky Airport

The capacity of the airport's only terminal today is 4 million people. Zhukovsky airfield has 2 runways, one of which is the longest in Europe and the third in the world.

The airport code in the IATA system is ZIA, in the ICAO system it is UUBW. The official website of the company is https://zia.aero. The airport serves flights of the following airlines:

  • Belavia;
  • "Ural Airlines";
  • "Onur Air";
  • "Sanexpress";
  • "Pegasus Fly".

Passengers have access to food, luggage storage and medical assistance in the terminal building. Several rooms are open to serve passengers with small children. There are also VIP lounges for business class passengers.

Over the next few years, it is planned to build a new passenger terminal, a station for Aeroexpress trains, a parking lot and a hotel in Zhukovsky.

Bykovo

Another air terminal located in the region, near the city of Zhukovsky. The airfield does not operate as a civil airport. It was closed eight years ago, in 2010.

unsorted.me

Until 2010, domestic flights from regions close to Moscow landed here, for example, planes flew here from Yaroslavl Tunoshna. Helicopters were also serviced here. The closure of the air terminal was not due to the fact that the airfield was technically outdated, but due to a lack of demand.

The helicopters of the country's Ministry of Internal Affairs and the customs service are based here. The airport terminal building has long been dismantled, and most of the hangars house customs warehouses.

Transport infrastructure

The western wing of the airport is equipped with a covered access platform where trains deliver passengers. This railway is located in the Paveletsky direction. In addition, the airport terminal is connected to the capital by a federal highway. Due to the construction of an interchange near the Cosmos platform, as well as due to periodic traffic jams, the travel time to the airport significantly depends on the time of day.

During peak hours, it is better to get to Domodedovo Airport by train or the following types of ground public transport:

  • Route taxi No. 308. The maximum travel time is 20 minutes, and the interval between them is 10 minutes.
  • Bus number 308. The interval and travel time are the same as for a minibus.
  • Bus number 26. The interval of movement of this public mode of transport can be up to one and a half hours. It all depends on the time of day.
  • Bus number 30. Travel time is up to one hour. Interval – 5 minutes.

Parking at Domodedovo Airport

Ostafyevo

This is an airport with history, not a particularly simple place. The air terminal is located near the relatively recently grown residential area of Yuzhnoye Butovo. The airfield was built in 1934 for the needs of the NKVD. Of course, what is connected with the functioning of Ostafyevo before the start of the war is unknown.

avsim.su

During the war years, the airport was of great importance. Important cargo and more passed through it. For example, scientists and government members were evacuated from these strips. After 1945, Ostafyevo was handed over to the military.

During the years of perestroika, the airport was abandoned, but it was soon reconstructed and opened. Restoration and technical equipment were carried out using funds. This happened in 2000. It is not surprising that Ostafyevo became the “home” airport for the gas concern’s subsidiary, Gazprom Avia. Of course, the airport has international status.

There is only one terminal, but it is very modern. The declared capacity is 70 people per hour on domestic flights and 40 on international flights. This, of course, is several times less than in the Sheremetyevo, Vnukovo or Domodedovo terminals, but in comparison with many airports in Europe it is quite a lot.

Special business aviation flights are served in Ostafyevo.

Chkalovsky

This is a military airport and does not accept civilian flights except those requiring an emergency landing. Local technical capabilities are limited; Chkalovsky is focused not on airplanes, but on helicopters. But there are runways here and they are used if necessary.

avsim.su

The airport is located in the region, near the city of Shchelkovo. It is 31 km away from Moscow and there is no direct highway to the MKAD from Chkalovsky.

At the end of the last century, when the army was in decline, crisis, and property was being sold under the hammer, the airport was going to be privatized and turned into a civilian one, accepting private flights. A project was even discussed to cut down a significant area of forest in order to lay a direct route to the Moscow Ring Road. Fortunately for the local ecology, this was not destined to come true.

Today Chkalovsky is the base of the Special Purpose Aviation Division.

Moscow aviation hub

UIA (MOW in the interpretation of the International Air Transport Association) is the infrastructure of airports in Moscow and the region. List of Moscow airports that are the main ones for UIA:

  • Domodedovo;
  • Vnukovo;
  • Sheremetyevo;
  • Zhukovsky.

Auxiliary - Ostafyevo and Chkalovsky. All airports are international (with the exception of Chkalovsky, since it is recognized as international, but does not yet operate such flights).

Myachkovo

A small and cozy rural airport, reminiscent of European provincial mini-air terminals. It was built near the city limits, 16 km from the Moscow Ring Road. Nearby is the village of Verkhneye Myachkovo, which gave the name to the airport.

Myachkovo operated as a civilian air terminal until the beginning of 2009. In the same year, it was officially reorganized into a sports airfield. People who have their own light aircraft come here.

slickpic.com

In addition to private aviation, the airfield has helipads and periodically receives small charter or special departmental flights.

There are two flying clubs and a flight school operating simultaneously in Myachkovo. Of course, they undergo a medical examination before taking off. There are also hangars where private planes are parked.

It is impossible to answer the question of how many airports there are in Moscow without taking into account strategic and closed facilities. But, of course, there is no information about them. Therefore, it is generally accepted that there are 8 operating airfields in the capital.
