Moscow Motor Show: main premieres of MIAS-2018

From August 29 to September 9, the Moscow International Automobile Salon is taking place in the capital's Crocus Expo. We tell you what Russian and world premieres await visitors to MIAS 2018

Maxim Fedorov
AURUS

For the first time, visitors to the Moscow Motor Show will be able to get acquainted with the new domestic automobile brand Aurus, also known as the “Cortege” project. At MIAS 2018, two versions of the Aurus Senat model created by OUR specialists will be presented - a standard sedan and a long-wheelbase “presidential” limousine.

GAC

A new Chinese brand will appear in Russia: the Guangzhou company GAC Motor will officially announce it at the Moscow Motor Show. At MIAS 2018, GAC Motor (stand C203, hall 14, pavilion 3) will show a wide range of crossovers - from the all-electric GE3 to the large 7-seater GS8.

The Chinese automaker will also bring the GM8 minivan and GA8 sedan to Moscow. In addition, within the framework of the auto show there will be a presentation of the GA3S and GS5S models, which have already received a certificate from the Customs Union and will soon begin to be sold in Russia.

J.A.C.

Another newcomer from the Middle Kingdom is the JAC company. Visitors to the Moscow Motor Show will be among the first to see two models of this brand, the S3 and S5 crossovers. Both cars are planned to be sold in Russia.

JAGUAR

As part of the Mobilistics exposition, Jaguar will show in Russia for the first time its first electric car – the I-Pace crossover. The model is equipped with two electric motors with a total power of 400 hp. and a block of 432 lithium-ion batteries, which provides a range of up to 480 km. With the help of a 100 kW fast charging station, a depleted battery is restored to 80% of its charge in 40 minutes. If you connect the I-Pace to a home outlet, then with a power point of 7 kW, it will take all night to charge the batteries.

GEELY

The exhibition will include the Russian premiere of the new Geely crossover, which is now known as SX11, and the presentation of the GE hybrid sedan. The crossover is created on the BMA (B-segment Modular Architecture) modular platform, on which other Geely cars will be built. The SX11 has a 1.5-liter turbo engine (177 hp), which is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch robotic gearbox.

A special feature of the hybrid is the presence of high-capacity batteries that allow you to travel on electricity up to 60 km. The declared average consumption of Geely GE is 1.6 liters per 100 km.

Also presented at the auto show will be the updated Geely Emgrand 7 and Emgrand X7, which will soon appear at Russian dealers. The Emgrand 7 sedan after the facelift is distinguished by a redesigned front end with a new bumper and a “branded” radiator grille in the form of concentric circles. The interior has also changed: there is a new center console and different seat upholstery.

The updated Emgrand X7 crossover boasts not only a design in a new corporate style (the new product is similar to the Geely Atlas), but also a number of technical innovations, including a rear multi-link suspension, a modern media system with a 9-inch high-resolution screen and keyless entry. In the cabin, only the seats have changed - their upholstery is made of higher quality materials.

HAVAL

On August 29, the global premiere of the newest crossover from the Chinese brand Havale will take place at the Moscow International Motor Show. F7 is the flagship of the new “youth” line of Haval crossovers. In terms of dimensions, this model is close to the Toyota Highlander: its length is only slightly less than five meters, and its wheelbase is 2800 mm.

The serial crossover, created on the basis of the Haval HB-02 concept presented two years ago, received rich equipment, including LED matrix headlights, 19-inch alloy wheels, a system for selecting driving modes (standard, economy, sport, snow, etc.), as well as media center with online services and voice control. Starting next year, Haval F7 will be produced at a plant in the Tula region. In Russia, the new product will be produced with petrol turbo engines of 1.5 and 2.0 liters (150 and 190 hp), paired with a 7-speed robotic gearbox with a “wet” double clutch and all-wheel drive.

HYUNDAI

Hyundai has two premieres at MIAS 2018 - the new generation Santa Fe and the updated Tucson. Both models are already on sale in Russia. The new “Santa” has changed a lot in appearance and has become better equipped. In the basic configuration, it has all-wheel drive, six airbags, a driving mode selection system, rear parking sensors, dual-zone climate control, an optical instrument panel with a color display, heated mirrors, front seats and steering wheel, cruise control, an audio system with a 5-inch monochrome screen, 17-inch alloy wheels, alarm system and even an automatic body height leveling system! The 4th generation Santa Fe is offered with two engines: a 2.4-liter gasoline engine with a power of 188 hp. with a 6-speed automatic transmission and a 200-horsepower 2.2-liter diesel engine combined with a new 8-speed automatic transmission.

The updated Tusan is externally distinguished by a new radiator grille, a larger front bumper, LED headlights and a different design of alloy wheels. The interior has been upgraded to the ventilation deflectors, center console and media system with support for CarPlay / Android Auto, whose touch screen now rises above the dashboard. The engines remain the same: these are 1.6 and 2.0 petrol units developing 177 and 150 hp. respectively, as well as a 2.0-liter diesel engine with 185 hp, the latter receiving a new 8-speed automatic transmission.

KIA

In addition to the third generation Ceed hatchback, Kia will present three more new products at the capital's Crocus Expo. One of them is the new Ceed Sportwagon. The main feature of the station wagon is the most spacious luggage compartment in its class. It was possible to make it this way while maintaining the existing wheelbase by reducing the front overhang and increasing the rear overhang.

Another Kia premiere will be the third generation of the Cerato sedan, sales of which will begin in Russia in October. The global model, one of the three most popular Kia cars in the world, will be presented on the Russian market with two gasoline engines: 1.6 (128 hp) and 2.0 (150 hp). The 2-liter engine will only be available with automatic transmission, while the 1.6-liter version can be equipped with either automatic or manual transmission.

At MIAS 2018, Kia will also show the updated Sportage, which will appear on the Russian market before the end of the year. The car has undergone minor design changes, and also received a more modern media complex and new driver assistance systems. The range of crossover power units was replenished with a 2.4 GDI petrol engine (184 hp), and the diesel Sportage received an 8-speed automatic transmission.

LADA
The highlight of the Lada program at MIAS will be the premiere of the “hot” version of the Vesta sedan. Externally, the production version of the 2018 Lada Vesta Sport looks almost the same as the concept presented on the stage of Crocus Expo exactly two years ago. The car has original alloy wheels with a diameter of up to 18 inches, new bumpers, a wing with an integrated brake light on the trunk lid, red accents around the perimeter of the body and muffler pipes symmetrically located at the edges of the rear bumper. Finally, LED running lights appeared on the sports sedan - something that Vesta had been missing so much! The suspension of the Lada Vesta Sport has also been thoroughly modified, while the ground clearance has decreased by 16 mm. The new product is powered by a 1.8-liter engine that is well known to Vesta owners, but has undergone factory tuning. The engine power was increased from 122 to 145 hp, which gave an advantage of 0.6 seconds in acceleration to hundreds.

Another AvtoVAZ premiere will be an “off-road” modification of the Lada Xray hatchback. Its concept was also shown at the Moscow Motor Show in 2021, but now it will be a production version of the Xray Cross, which, however, will not be much different from the “conceptual” one.

In addition to the Lada Vesta Sport and Xray Cross, AvtoVAZ will bring a new family of Grants to MIAS 2018. It includes four body types, two of which are “borrowed” from Lada Kalina. In addition to the sedan and liftback, a hatchback and station wagon will appear in the Lada Granta line for the first time. From the front, the new items look the same - with a Vesta-style radiator grille, while at the rear they retain the recognizable style of the Kalina.

LIFAN

The stand of the Chinese company Lifan will occupy almost 1000 square meters of Crocus Expo. There, visitors will be able to get acquainted with models that have not yet been presented on the Russian market, but have every chance of entering it. These will include the M7 minivan (very similar to the Ford S-Max), the large 7-seat X80 crossover and the 820EV sedan, an electrified version of the Murman.

Lifan representatives promise to demonstrate the electric car in action, as well as show the process of replacing its batteries.

RENAULT

The main premiere of Renault at the Moscow Motor Show will be the new C-segment crossover Arkana - a more affordable coupe-like classmate of the Nissan Qashqai, the technical characteristics of which are still kept strictly secret. Russia will be the first country in the world where they will not only present this model, but also begin to assemble it. And only later Renault Arkana will be sold around the world.

Renault will also show at MIAS 2018 a significantly expanded “off-road” Stepway line, which, in addition to the updated Sandero, now includes the Logan sedan and the Dokker heel. All three new products are distinguished by a black plastic body kit around the perimeter of the body, imitation steel protection under the bumpers, two-tone 16-inch alloy wheels, and Logan and Sandero Stepway also have increased ground clearance to 195 mm. Renault Logan and Sandero Stepway will also be available in the City version, which is equipped with a CVT X-Tronic variator in combination with a 1.6 engine (113 hp). Externally, the Stepway City versions are distinguished by the absence of “steel” inserts on the bumpers, glossy black trim on the mirrors, and the Sandero Stepway City also has completely black roof rails. In addition, cars in this series can be ordered in a new red body color.

The start of Russian sales of the updated Renault Sandero Stepway and Logan Stepway (including Stepway City versions) is scheduled for autumn. And Dokker Stepway will appear on the Russian market at the beginning of 2019.

VOLKSWAGEN

The German automaker will host two Russian premieres in Moscow. At the Volkswagen stand for the first time in our country they will show the Arteon liftback and the ID “Arteon” electric car, which is replacing the Passat CC, is stuffed to the brim with electronic assistants. It can drive in semi-automatic mode, independently adjusting its speed based on road conditions. For this model, the function of preliminary illumination of turns is also available, based on information received from cameras and navigator data, changing the direction of the light beam even before making a maneuver.

The ID prototype is a representative of the brand's electric family, built on the new modular MEB platform. The electric car is equipped with an autonomous driving function, during which the driver is completely removed from control and the steering wheel is retracted into the front panel. Another feature of the prototype is the Home-Net system, which allows you to combine a car and a house into one network.

Another premiere at the Volkswagen stand is the Tiguan Offroad. The “off-road” version of the Russian-assembled crossover is distinguished by a beveled front bumper, which improves geometric cross-country ability, as well as decorative elements. Sales of the new product will start in October.

ATTENTION! COMPETITION!

The magazine “5 Wheel” and the radio station “Moscow FM” are holding the “Car of the Moscow International Motor Show - 2018” competition.

Everyone who comes to the exhibition will be able to vote for their favorite car live. In addition, you can vote on social networks and on the website www.5koleso.ru. Many prizes useful for motorists will be raffled off among voting participants. And the main prize, symbolizing non-stop progress, will be awarded to the company whose car, in the opinion of voting participants, will be recognized as the most striking event of the exhibition.

MIAS-2018. World premiere from Aston Martin and full list of participants!

The Moscow Motor Show 2021 was unpleasantly surprised by the low turnout of participants - spectators responded in kind, buying 40% fewer tickets than in 2014. This time, again, not all the planned areas have been sold out - many companies are still ignoring the event, however, there will no longer be such a “sparse variety” as two years ago. As for the audience, Peter Tutarashvili hopes that about a million people will come to MIAS 2018, that is, to reach the 2014 level.

Meanwhile, in terms of the number of participants, the upcoming show is far short of pre-crisis car shows, but it looks more advantageous than MIAS-2016. In this, it must be admitted, considerable merit is due to Peter Tutarashvili, who began to work at the main Russian automobile exhibition 1.5 years ago. Despite the fact that there are no less “external circumstances” this time, and maybe even more than in 2016, say, at the global level, many companies have decided to refuse to participate in some key car shows, viewers will have something to look at.

Participating brands were divided into three groups. The first is those who participate, have already paid and who will have a stand in the classical sense. The second is those with whom Crocus is still negotiating. It’s not a fact that they will have stands (some definitely won’t), but many of this group can take part in a simplified format, which will significantly reduce the cost. This could be a small street exposition, an exposition with the support of a dealer (this is how the Volvo brand was last represented by the Obukhov dealer), a small accented product positioning, a test drive site, etc. The third is brands that will definitely not be at MIAS this time.

Director of the Moscow International Automobile Salon project Pyotr Vadimovich Tutarashvili

Group 1. “Participate.” Lada, Kia, Hyundai, Renault, Volkswagen, Geely, Lifan, Ravon, Haval, JAC, GAC. According to Kolesa.ru’s own data, Kia will have the largest stand.

Group 2. “Do not participate.” Toyota, Nissan, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Chevrolet, Datsun, Mazda, Lexus, Audi, Peugeot, Citroen, DS, Infiniti, Mini, Foton, Mitsubishi, Chery.

Group 3. “Negotiations are ongoing or there is no abandonment of the brand.” Skoda, Ford, GAZ, UAZ, Subaru, Cadillac, Honda, Porsche, DFM, Zotye, Brilliance, FAW, Jeep, Chrysler, Isuzu, Changan, HTM.

At least two world premieres are expected this year, not counting the Aurus limousine shown in May, designed by NAMI. Viewers will see a Renault crossover and... a real supercar. In a conversation with us, Pyotr Tutarashvili did not name the brand, however, according to our information, we are talking about Aston Martin, which can bring its crossover to Moscow, which they plan to assemble at a new plant in Wales starting next year. In its conceptual form, the car is known as DBX, but production units, according to the British press, will be called Varekai. However, according to Peter, documents have not yet been signed with the manufacturer, whom he did not name.
