“Russian ostrich” is an unusual phrase, but this is the name of an ostrich breeding farm located near the city of Serpukhov.
The company is rightfully considered one of the pioneers of the Russian Federation in this industry, since it was founded in 1999. Ostriches are bred here for economic purposes, which, however, does not prevent the owners from organizing excursions and quests on the territory of the farm. The birds are affectionate and willing to make contact, although excursionists approach with caution at first. And no wonder. Such a bird can tear down a fence, break a lion's skull with a kick, and cause a concussion with its beak. In addition to black African ostriches and emus, the farm is home to ducks, goats, rabbits, Vietnamese pigs, sheep and a donkey.
Tours run every hour. In 45 minutes, visitors will learn about the habits of ostriches, their characteristics, and admire adult birds and babies.
Quests are arranged by pre-order. The quest “The Mystery of the Black Egg” lasts 1.5 hours, includes making a souvenir from the shell yourself and drinking tea. “The Secret of the Ostrich Farm” lasts 2.5 hours, the price includes preparing and tasting the omelet, and painting the shell, which is given to participants.
You can buy cabbage at the checkout: it turns out that ostriches love it. Birds are voracious and, when carried away, can peck quite sensitively into the palm of your hand. Therefore, the feeding process is usually taken over by the head of the family. They also love to play pranks: unwary tourists risk losing some part of their wardrobe - gloves, hats. Non-bird inhabitants of a petting zoo will also happily eat carrots.

Cafe and shop on the Serpukhov farm
The cafe is called “Ostrich House”, the menu is accordingly: omelettes, salads, cutlets, steaks and even borscht are prepared using farm products. Visitors praise the pies. On Maslenitsa, a cafe conducted an experiment: how many pancakes can be made from one ostrich egg. It turned out to be 120 pieces (the egg weighed 1,300 g, it was a small one).
It is possible to buy eggs, meat, and ostrich dumplings and take them with you to cook at home. The prices are not cheap, but the products are also delicious.
The store offers a variety of products made from ostrich shells, feathers and leather. There are all kinds of key rings, wallets, covers, even panels. At Easter, visitors were delighted with an innovation - ostrich eggs painted in the Orthodox style.

In the souvenir shop you can buy yourself a souvenir: a feather or an ostrich egg. The store contains natural farm products.
How to get to the ostrich farm in Serpukhov?
- Bus No. 22 “Serpukhov – Proletarsky” runs from the Serpukhov bus station. You need to take it to the Malye Kuzmenki stop, then walk to the farm.
- From the Chekhov railway station, take bus No. 22 “Chekhov - Proletarsky” to the “Starye Kuzmenki” stop, then go to the farm.
- From Moscow, near the Yuzhnaya metro station on the street. Bus number 458 “Moscow – Serpukhov” departs from Dnepropetrovsk. You need to ask the driver to stop at the turn towards the village of Malye Kuzmenki and walk along the highway for about 2 km.
- You can get to the city of Serpukhov by the Moscow – Serpukhov train, departing from the Kursky station. Next by bus or taxi.

The surrounding forests are famous for mushrooms and berries. It's easy to plan a family vacation so that you can spend the whole day in unity with nature.
Those who love visiting spiritual places will not be disappointed. In the Serpukhov region there are several churches, the Trinity Cathedral and the Vysotsky Monastery, where the “Inexhaustible Chalice” is kept - an icon that cures alcohol addiction.

The farm tour consists of several parts:
The first is getting to know the animals (we feed, take pictures, talk about the animals). In addition to alpacas, the farm has a retired camel, rabbits, chickens, and a goat. You can meet all the animals and learn a lot of interesting things about them.
The second part is a wool workshop (we show how to process wool, how to obtain it, etc., talk about the features of caring for animals, about working on a farm and about plans for farming).
The third part is free time. You can walk throughout the farm, have a picnic or play ball/badminton, throw a frisbee, etc.
The program of the first and second parts is designed for one and a half to two hours.

An open-air ethnographic project: authentic dwellings, life, traditions and culture of nomadic peoples of different countries. The park features: Mongolian yurts, Turkic yurts, Chukchi yaranga, Nenets chums.
A zoo with a collection of nomadic animals: Kalmyk Bactrian camels, Mongolian yaks, donkey, deer, lambs, goats, geese and northern sled dogs (Alaskan malamutes). All animals are contact animals, you can feed them, and you can buy special food at the zoo.
The ethnopark offers camel, dog sled and donkey rides, archery and shot throwing. There are excursions, various creative master classes, concerts, and a Tea Yurt where you can eat buuza and drink kumiss.
