Sea fishing with spinning rod

When attaching a load to the top of the rod, it gives a deflection. The nature of the deflection is called the action, or in simple terms - the rigidity of the rod. For example, with a hard rod, the entire rod bends, and with a slow rod, only the tip, for successful sharp and smooth hooking.

Spinning rod for sea fishing is a fishing tackle that consists of a rod with a reel. The main goal is to catch predatory fish species. Spinning is considered one of the most popular tackles in the world. Since this method of fishing requires a certain skill and dexterity. Let's discuss the main elements and their technical nuances.

Today, modern manufacturers offer a wide range of reliable and high-quality spinning rods for sea fishing for every taste. By visiting a fishing store, everyone can quickly select and buy tackle that best suits individual preferences regarding characteristics and parameters.

Before buying a spinning blank, you need to carefully study the market, since there are a huge number of offers there. And very often you can find a budget rod within 3,000 rubles, which in its characteristics will be similar to a product produced by a famous brand and having a retail price of 30,000 rubles and above.

As mentioned above, spinning is a universal tackle. However, if when fishing from a boat the set of criteria is very limited, since fishing is actually carried out in open space, then when casting from the shore, all possible influencing factors must be taken into account. It is necessary to pay attention first of all to the following characteristics:

Neglecting at least one of these factors can lead to complete discomfort during fishing and its accompaniment by constant snagging on coastal vegetation, tangling of the fishing line and, as a result, the end of fishing. In order to wisely choose a spinning rod for fishing from the shore, you need to understand the parameters described below.

Price and type of rod

Before buying a spinning blank, you need to carefully study the market, since there are a huge number of offers there. And very often you can find a budget rod within 3,000 rubles, which in its characteristics will be similar to a product produced by a famous brand and having a retail price of 30,000 rubles and above.

And yet, despite the fact that the brand is a significant, but not fundamental, circumstance, it should be noted that among both beginners and experienced fishermen, rods from Daiwa and Shimano have a good reputation; manufacturers Banax, Nissin, Tenryu are a little less known. The range of these companies is very large and allows you to choose a set of rods for the required type of fishing.

Based on their technical design, forms are divided into plug-in and telescopic. The first ones consist mainly of two parts and are connected end-to-end using a plug connection. This guarantees them high strength, uniform load distribution and, accordingly, excellent balance.

Rods of the second type are very outdated; their only advantage is their compactness during transportation, which made them popular mainly among lovers of float and bottom tackle. Accordingly, when fishing with spinning tackle from the shore, it is better to give preference to a plug form.

Primary parameters for choosing a fishing rod: test and length

These characteristics almost completely describe the fishing rod for a particular body of water. So, the length allows you to determine the casting distance, having a direct relationship - the longer, the further. The test, in turn, shows how heavy the bait can be delivered to the desired area of the reservoir and partially determines what weight of fish is expected to be caught.

Rods have a very different test, and extreme values can be from tenths to a unit of grams when fishing with ultra-light baits, and from tens to hundreds of grams when hunting fish such as taimen, salmon, catfish or very large pike using special oscillating spinners. Universal values for most reservoirs when fishing from the shore will be 7-30 grams, 5-15 grams, 5-25 grams or close to them, i.e., no more than 30 grams and lying in a wide range.

Tips for fisherman: Bombard for sea fishing from the shore - Detailed review

It should be remembered that it is better to choose a test with a small margin, ideally so that the mass of the bait is its average value. As an example, if you plan to cast a spinner weighing from 7 to 15 grams, then a rod test of 5-25 grams would be ideal.

Rod build

This parameter should be displayed in a separate column, since it ultimately characterizes the form of the rod and determines what baits will be used for fishing. In fact, it indicates the information content of the tackle when casting, retrieving and retrieving, depending on the type of equipment. Despite the fact that this is a separate and very large topic, you should at least superficially study this parameter in order to correctly select a spinning rod for fishing from the shore.

The action is indicated on the form of the rod; it is convenient to divide it into three types:

So, as can be seen from the description, for beginners or anglers who do not have sufficient information about the reservoir, it is recommended to use a medium or, as it is called, semi-parabolic system. This rod will allow you to use a wide range of baits, provide optimal casting and comfortable fishing.

The quality of the rod blank

Guide rings on the rod blank are also made of different materials, but all-metal ones are increasingly leaving their positions, and their place is being taken by designs with various spacers made of ceramics, Teflon, etc. This innovation eliminates the unpleasant phenomenon of the fishing line rubbing against the ring material, followed by breakage and loss of valuable bait.

After fishing, the spinning rod must be washed with fresh water, dried, and the metal parts lubricated. It’s better to use fish oil, or technical petroleum jelly. Hooks that are rusty are regularly sharpened with a block. The fishing line requires thorough drying every day.

Is it possible to fish with a spinning rod in the sea?

Almost all sea fish are more or less predatory. Since there are predators in the sea, that means they can be caught with a spinning rod.

Many people who live near the sea are fond of this kind of fishing; in addition, there is always the opportunity to combine a regular holiday at a resort with interesting sea fishing.

This applies to both the Black Sea or Azov coast, and the Kaliningrad region (while vacationing in “Northern Sochi”, you can throw a spinning rod into the waters of the Baltic Sea), as well as Turkey and Egypt, Bulgaria and Montenegro, Thailand and any other resorts: wherever there is a sea , there are also fish that can be successfully caught with a spinning rod.

What kind of fish should I hunt?

anyone can
get hooked during such fishing .

However, as a rule, the main prey of a spinning fisher when fishing in any particular water area will almost certainly be only a few species of predators, which will make up 99% of the catch .

So, in the Black Sea you most often come across the following on spinning rods:

  • scorpionfish;
  • bison;
  • croaker

Scorpion fish are a nocturnal predator that lives in the coastal zone. Always stays near the bottom and hunts from ambush. When fishing from the shore, scorpionfish account for 90% of the catch.

The bison is a fish with a powerful jaw that resembles that of a horse. The jaw is lined with sharp teeth (hence the name of the fish), with which the bison splits the shells of bivalve mollusks. It also feeds on crustaceans and young fish. In search of food, bison actively move in flocks along the shore.

Croaker is the best trophy for any spinning angler who fishes in the Black Sea. When fishing, the croaker resists very actively; it is an incredibly strong and fast fish that is difficult to tire. Catching even a small specimen leaves a lot of impressions. Spinning rods often catch croakers weighing from 0.8 to 2 kg, but it is also possible to catch a specimen weighing 5-6 kg.

In the waters of the Sea of Azov, the most common trophies are:

  • zander;
  • goby;
  • flounder.

In addition, burbot, rock perch, greenfinches, garfish, horse mackerel, mackerel, bluefish and other predators are caught in the Azov and Black Seas.

In the Baltic Sea the main objects for spinning fishing are:

  • zander;
  • salmon;
  • flounder.

And in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Norway, fishermen most often catch:

  • halibut;
  • cod;
  • red salmon;
  • whiting;
  • haddock;
  • flounder.

True, Norwegians usually do not catch these sea predators using spinning rods: fishing from boats using vertical trolling or trolling is common.

What kind of fish can you catch?

When fishing at sea, you can catch completely different species of individuals. It is quite difficult to predict what kind of fish you will be able to get today. Often found at sea:

  • sea urchin;
  • cod;
  • mackerel;
  • horse mackerel;
  • mackerel;
  • red mullet

In less salty waters or at river mouths you can catch:

  • pike;
  • salmon;
  • pike perch;
  • perch

The methods of catching fish can also be different, but you need to choose the right bait. Fishermen with extensive experience even hunt sharks in the sea. To catch such an aggressive predator, you will need to show cunning, as well as withstand the physical stress that will undoubtedly arise when fighting it.

This fish is caught from a boat or yacht. Fans looking for small sharks can find them on the shores of Bulgaria or Crimea. Larger specimens live off the coast of Africa. When fishing, you need to take care of the boat and the choice of spinning rod in advance. It does not have to be long, but the main thing is that it is strong and elastic.

In general, action is the speed at which the bent end returns to its original position. The higher the speed, the further you can throw the bait. Light bait up to 10 grams can be cast far to outwit the smartest fish. It will also be convenient to cast heavy baits far, but this is not always appropriate.

You should opt for a spinning reel. It’s better to buy expensive models for spinning rods, but to start with, it’s better to stick with cheap models. They break more often, but replacing them is easier and simpler than repairing them.

It is customary to distinguish 5 types of fishing rods

1. Float - suitable for catching any fish in any body of water. They, in turn, are divided into 4 types:

  • Flywheels - have a low price, simple design and are easy to use. Ideal for fishing on the shore.
  • Plug-in - designed for fishing in strong currents or on an overgrown bank.
  • Match fishing is an option for experienced fishermen. Designed for fishing with minimal or no current.
  • Bolognese are the simplest and most versatile fishing rods. Used near the shore for long casts.

2. Spinning rods - designed for catching predatory fish. 3. Carp - created specifically for carp fishing, as its behavior is unpredictable. 4. Feeder – for bottom fishing. They have a feeder that attracts fish.

Before purchasing, you need to decide where and under what conditions the fishing will most often take place. A quiet lake or pond, or maybe a river with a strong current.

When fishing in a stormy river, it is recommended to choose a telescopic fishing rod. It is compact and easy to repair. When fishing from a boat, it is permissible to use a long, medium-weight rod.

Having listened to the above advice, a novice fisherman can consider himself prepared from a theoretical point of view. Now it's a matter of practice.

Sea float rod

Sea float rod

Catching sea fish with a float rod

Red mullet or red mullet.

A fixed float has good sensitivity and light weight, but it can easily break off, rotates at a depth equal to the length of the rod and is of little use if the depth does not match the length of the rod.

The best bait for red mullet is the nereid, a red-green sea worm. A piece of worm should be placed on the hook. With a good bite, the red mullet will also take an ordinary earthworm or dungworm, which is also planted not entirely, but in small pieces. Sometimes red mullet pecks on a piece of raw shrimp meat and sea fleas.

Scorpionfish (sea ruff).

It is caught from the shore or structures protruding far into the water, at shallow depths with a rocky bottom covered with brown algae. It is well fished from a boat using onboard float rods at depths of up to 30 m.

Lavrak.

The effectiveness of fishing is increased by bait placed in a bag with small cells, from where food particles will be washed out even with a slight movement of water. The feeder is held at the bottom by a weight. For bait, crumbles of finely chopped fish, shrimp, crab meat, fish marc, etc. are suitable. Scented extracts are also used to serve as additional bait.

Fishing Tips: Jig for sea fishing from shore - How to best use it

Mullet.

Various types of mullet can be caught well using a float rod. It is better to fish from the shore in the early morning, when schools of mullet in search of food sometimes follow near the very edge of the water. When fishing with a fishing rod with a blind rig, it is imperative to camouflage yourself behind cover. This could be some kind of coastal structure or a large boulder. Good places are port berths, hulls of ships, boats, small yachts, where you can remain unnoticed.

Usually, when fishing for mullet, they use tackle designed for long-distance casting. Mullet is a very cautious fish, and catching it requires the finest tackle. Even for catching large specimens (about 1 kg), they often take fishing line with a diameter of 0.1-0.12 mm, because Mullet sees well in clear water. In places where the water is somewhat cloudy, you can use a fishing line with a larger diameter (0.25 mm). The nozzle is placed approximately 10-15 cm from the bottom. In ports, mullet often feed at mid-water, so the descent should be appropriate.

The mullet bite is sharp, sometimes the float immediately goes under the water, and sometimes it jumps. A fishing rod left unattended can be jerked sharply and carried out to sea.

Laskir.

Sea crucian carp are caught both from the shore and from a boat. The fishing rod rig should be thin (line -0.14-0.15 mm, leash - 0.1-0.12 mm) with a sensitive (1-2 g) float. The bait is a piece of shrimp, sea worm or mussel meat.

Goby.

Wrasse or Zelenukha.

Horse mackerel.

Shemaya.

It is caught in the upper layers of water with a fishing rod designed for long-distance casting, equipped with a self-loading float. The main line is 0.2-0.25 mm, the leader line is 0.12-0.18 mm. The bait used is insects, crayfish meat, mussels, shrimp, and sea worm. It likes to feed on extensive shallows, so the bait must be cast at a distance of up to 20 m from the shore. Good places for fishing are where small rivers flow into the sea.

Gorbyl.

Garfish.

In addition, the fishing rod can be equipped with a float with a built-in sinker, which makes it easy to make long casts when fishing from above. A rigging option is also possible when a weighted float is tied to the end of the fishing line, and the leash is located a meter away from it (Fig. 3).

The best bait everywhere is shrimp meat. The Baltic garfish also really likes a strip of freshly caught herring meat. If the bite is sluggish, the hook must be done with a long pause, when the bait is in the corner of the fish’s mouth.

The most productive fishing is in early spring, when small flocks of garfish walk near the shore. Walking fishing: moving along the surf, you periodically repeat casts.

Sea pike perch.

Sometimes it is caught with live bait float rods at depths of 6-10 m. At greater depths it is caught from a boat using an onboard fishing rod. The lead line must have a diameter of at least 0.4 mm. Hooks are nickel-plated or tinned, long-shanked, No. 8-10. Small fish (anchovy, sprat, red mullet, etc.) are used for bait. Good places for fishing are located near the mouths of rivers flowing into the sea, in areas with dense clay soil.

mackerel

Fished with float rods throughout the day. The best bite happens in the morning. You can fish from a boat, coastal rocks, piers, piers and breakwaters, at a depth of 3-10 m. The bait is small fish or pieces of fish. In the Black Sea it appears in the Kerch Strait area in May-June. The equipment is the same as for catching garfish.

polar shark

The sharp sound of a rattle notifies that a bite has occurred. After it becomes monotonous, you should make a fairly powerful hook. The shark’s first jerks are the strongest—they try to restrain them by forcefully releasing the line. Having taken about 100 meters of fishing line, the shark most often stops. This is where you should start fishing.

The best bait is considered to be live herring, and the tail fin should be cut off so that the bait looks helpless, in addition, this prevents excessive twisting of the line (Fig. 4).

Drift fishing often occurs at very great depths with strong currents, so quick-release sinkers weighing from 100 g to 1 kg are used. Take a leash that is soft, but reliably protects against rubbing with teeth, such as “Steel Silk”. In principle, it is permissible to use leashes made of steel wire. For the largest specimens, a hook No. 18/10 (international classification) is required.

At the final stage of fishing, when the shark begins to walk in circles, it’s a good idea to have an assistant who, when lifting the shark on board, will help unhook the sinker and pick up the fish.

sea fox

Places where you can catch sea fox are found everywhere from Taman to Sochi. In Crimea, many stingrays live in the area of Sudak and the New World. There are places here where there are great depths not far from the shore. The best time to catch sea fox on the Black Sea coast and in Crimea is August and September.

For catching crucian carp with a float rod near the shore, a rod of short length (3-5 meters) is suitable, but if your goal is a larger fish, then the length of the rod should be at least 6 and no more than 10 meters. It is convenient to cast such a fishing rod far from the shore.

Selecting tackle

Sea fishing requires both high quality of all parts of equipment and the use of high-quality gear . Tackle for fishing at sea can be expensive, but there is no need to skimp here.

Rod

When fishing at sea from the shore casting range is very important ; in many ways, this is what determines the choice of rod. In addition, the power of the tackle and its ability to absorb strong jerks of large fish are often important.

Thus, the best spinning rod for sea fishing while casting from the shore, which is suitable for most situations, is a rod 2.7 - 3 m long , with a medium-fast action.

The test is selected based on the weight of the baits used (its upper limit can be 40, 60, 80 or more grams).

If you are fishing from a boat, the length of the rod may be shorter - about 2 m , since long casting is not required here. The upper limit of the test range is up to 300 g.

Also very interesting is bottom fishing in the coastal zone using jig baits and wobblers, for which you need a light rod or even an ultralight spinning rod.

Coil

A reel for sea fishing can be taken either spinning or multiplier. Most anglers prefer to use spinning rods, which are simpler and more convenient to use. Of course, you shouldn’t go too small with the size - the spool should contain at least 200 m of fishing line with a diameter of 0.25 mm.

Basic requirements for a spinning reel for sea fishing:

  • salt water resistance;
  • high quality line laying;
  • strength and reliability of all structural parts.

Salt water can kill a “freshwater” reel in just one or two fishing trips. To prevent this from happening, it is necessary to choose marine series models that are resistant to salt.

Good quality of line laying is very important, since when fishing at sea it is often necessary to perform power casts , and even small uneven laying can cause the appearance of “beards”, which are very difficult to untangle.

In addition, when a “beard” forms while casting, the bait is often shot.

It is better to clean the reel after each sea fishing trip, removing salt deposited on its parts and mechanisms.

fishing line

For spinning fishing at sea, you can use monofilament or braided fishing line. If when fishing on lakes and rivers the best choice is almost always braided line, then in sea fishing everything is not so clear .

Advantages of monofilament:

  • Damage is clearly visible on monofilament, which cannot be said about braided line. Since when fishing at sea the fishing line often gets cut on the stones, after the next bite of the trophy the braid often breaks along the old notches. If fishing occurs with monofilament, it is easy to notice all damage in a timely manner and get rid of the problematic section of the fishing line;
  • When fishing with monofilament, it is always easy to get rid of the “beard” : you can simply bite off the tangled section of the fishing line, then tie the bait and continue fishing. Losing 10-20 m of monofilament fishing line is not scary, but losing the same amount of braided line is already a nuisance;
  • monofilament is much less noticeable in the water than braid, which can contribute to a significant increase in the number of bites when fishing during the day.

Advantages of braided fishing line:

  • the ability to feel the bait well and perform a clear hook when fishing at a long distance ;
  • a small percentage of lure losses on hooks compared to monofilament.

The optimal diameter of monofilament for casting at sea will be 0.25 mm (monofilament with a smaller diameter is prone to the formation of beards , and shooting of baits often occurs during power casts).

It is also worth noting that colorless monofilament lines quickly fade in salt water , losing their quality and becoming unusable.

Suitable braided wire is round in cross section , with a diameter of about 0.15 mm. Cords with fluorescent colors will be easier to track in the water, while a couple of meters of braid in front of the bait can be painted over with a dark marker so that it is less noticeable and does not scare off the fish.

Spinning rod equipment for wobblers for pike

Wobblers are often used by amateur spinners in the same way as spinners - on a uniform retrieve or with pauses (stop-and-go). That’s why we have a lot of fishermen who don’t like these baits - like they don’t catch with us, except when they’re hungry, when the pike takes anything. If small wobblers have already firmly settled in the boxes of our spinning rods for catching perch, chub and asp, then large ones for pike - not so much. And all because of the improper use of these baits.

Sometimes the pike takes well on even stretches of large cranks and bellies, that is, fats. However, the most effective way to catch toothy fish with this type of artificial bait is by twitching large 110, 130 or more minnow wobblers, as well as bladeless rattlins. Twitching, simply put, is fairly sharp twitching, and constantly according to a certain pattern. At the same time, the wobbler causes aggression in the pike; it grabs it to drive the competitor away from its point. Therefore, with proper wiring, wobblers catch when the pike is not feeding at all.

  1. Large wobblers are very stubborn when jerking - an ordinary spinning rod of medium action will bend and not pull correctly. What you need here is a powerful, but at the same time light stick with a fast or extra-fast action. That’s why large pike minnows don’t work for many novice wobbler operators; they carry them with soft spinning rods.
  2. The second reason for this dislike is incorrect equipment. If you attach a wobbler for twitching or a rattlin to a regular soft leash with a swivel, when jerking, the front hook of the bait will overlap the leash. And so on every wiring.
  3. Wobblers are a subtle bait in terms of its understanding. An important characteristic is buoyancy - slowly floating, slowly sinking, suspenders when hanging in the thickness (zero buoyancy). Suspenders (SP) are most prized by pike fish. However, a heavy leash, and even one with a swivel, can so affect the buoyancy of the wobbler that it loses its killer game.

More details - the right wobblers for pike

To properly equip a spinning rod for pike with large wobblers, you need:

  • Choose the right rod - a special twitching rod or a universal one with a fast action to pull stubborn wobblers on a jerk.
  • In the rig, use not soft leashes, but steel twists, which, due to their rigidity, do not overwhelm the tee of the bait when jerking.
  • When making jerks, give back the tip of the rod each time, loosen the tension - only in this way will the wobbler perform those same residual vibrations and rolling that are lethal to pike.

String twist

To equip a spinning rod for pike with wobblers, we install not a soft metal leash, but a steel twist. You can make it yourself from 0.3-0.4 mm wire. In stores, twists are also sold for 100 rubles for 10 pieces. To start mastering wobblers for pike, just buy ready-made strands of 0.3 mm wire, 20 cm long, with swivels at one end.

  • We tie the cord to the swivel with a palomar - a wobbler to the other end of the twist, right into the eye. We remove the factory winding ring on wobblers - it is absolutely not needed there - there will be less chance of overlaps. The weight of such leashes is not enough to impair the performance of such large pike killers as Rudra, Kanata or Ito Shiner.
  • Further, when the angler dives into the wobblers and adjusts their buoyancy, by making homemade twists of different lengths (and using steel of different thicknesses), adding or removing a swivel, this characteristic can be adjusted, achieving the ideal position of the suspender.
  • The twist leads can be twisted manually using pliers. After several unsuccessful attempts it will start to work. It is more convenient to do this using a screwdriver with a special attachment. But the best thing is to use a special machine, a leash, for example, from the Ramenskaya Stringa company. There you can also get a supply of the correct wire for twisting.

Knotless installation

Experienced twitchers usually catch pike only with wobblers, without using spinners. This means that a swivel is not needed in the rigging system. When equipping a spinning rod for pike with large minnows, instead of a swivel, a knotless connection is used in the equipment. The braid can simply be woven into the top twist.

However, it is safer to use a knotless clasp. The diameter of the knotless wire is 2-3 times thicker than 0.3-0.4 mm twist. Therefore, there is less pressure on the cord under load at the connection point, according to the laws of physics. And tests show that tying to a knotless knot is stronger than simply weaving into a twist or knot.

Lures

A rod and reel with fishing line are nothing more than tools that are necessary to put bait under the nose of a predator . Its correct choice based on fishing conditions and expected trophies for successful fishing at sea is, of course, very important.

Oscillating spoons

An oscillating spoon is a very versatile bait that can be used in sea fishing both when fishing from the shore and when fishing from a boat by casting, vertical lure or trolling. You just need to choose the optimal type of spinner based on the fishing conditions.

Spoon baits are very popular among fishermen who catch salmon from the shore with a spinning rod in the Baltic Sea. “Classic” oscillators are especially common . They are small, narrowed towards the nose and have a slight S-shaped bend, the center of gravity is shifted back. These lures are distinguished by their easy movement and moderate yaw action.

Jigs

Jigs can be used both when casting and for vertical trolling. This type of bait is characterized by a very large weight with relatively small dimensions, which determines the main scope of their application: when casting, jigs are well suited for fishing in windy weather, since this bait perfectly “pierces” a side or head wind, while flying quite far and exactly.

When fishing vertically, jigs sink very quickly , which makes fishing with them at great depths very convenient.

Wobblers

Wobblers are also among the most catchy sea baits . For example, cranks are used for fishing from the bottom: such a bait, which digs the soil with a shovel, both on uniform and uneven retrieves, perfectly attracts predators that hunt in the lower layers of water.

Jig lures

When bottom fishing with stepped wiring, silicone baits are used, both standard ones - vibrotails, twisters and worms, and more unusual ones: nymphs, shrimp, crabs, crayfish and the like. For fishing from the shore, baits of sizes 1, 2, 3 inches .

At sea with spinning. Marcos Vidalis.

Marcos Vidalis is one of the most famous spinning players in Europe, actively popularizing sea spinning and shore jigging.

Marcos manages to catch excellent fish both from the shore and from a boat, maintain his own website in which he shares his observations and knowledge, shoot and then publish videos on his YouTube channel , test rods, reels, cords and baits from various manufacturers, and also monitor the quality of the texts of articles in two Greek magazines dedicated to fishing, of which he is the editor-in-chief.

about what gear and thoughts should be used to approach the shore in search of trophies, what to do next, what, where and when types of fish to look for, how to learn to understand the sea .

Marcos, hello! Thank you for taking the time to chat. At the beginning of our conversation, I would like to say thank you for the “propaganda” of coastal sea spinning; your contribution to its current popularity is great. Please answer the question: is shore jigging the best way to catch predatory fish in the sea from the shore?

Hello! It is a great honor for me to know that Russian and Russian-speaking fishermen are watching my activities. And I want to start the conversation by expressing my sincere gratitude to all my brothers who will read this text.

As for the question about shore jigging – no, not the best. Spinning fishing using wobblers, topwaters and silicone baits is the easiest way to catch predatory fish. But anglers who fish shore jigging from the shore have a big advantage. This method can be successfully used at depths and in conditions when other baits do not work. For example, in strong winds in deep sea areas.

Are you going for a trophy and absolutely clearly understand when you take spinning rods with you what kind of fish you plan to hunt? Or does everything happen differently, you take with you several sets of spinning rods, different types of baits and understand the situation on the spot?

This is a question with two answers. OK.

When I go to a place that I know, and at the same time I pursue a specific goal, then yes, I have a certain fishing kit prepared. For example, at the mouth of the river, where I plan to catch Lichia. In this case, I have one rod, one reel and several baits for this predator. Of course, these same baits can seduce bluefish and sea bass, which live in the same area.

Also on the rocks. If I'm standing on a deep rocky shore, then I have one “heavy” spinning rod with me with suitable baits to deal with all the circumstances.

But when I go fishing in a place that I’m just planning to find, I’m not sure about the activity of predators and I don’t know exactly where to look for them, then yes, I can take up to 4 different spinning sets with me.

Let's talk a little about shore jigging. We all love him too much not to ask you a few questions. Can you recommend a basic set of jigs for fishing in the Mediterranean? For example, a person goes on vacation, he does not have the opportunity to take them with him in large quantities, and then there is not enough time to try everything. Spotted tuna, bonito, amberjack, grouper, catfish, so many types of fish! What should you bring or buy locally so as not to throw away the money you need, unfortunately, and have a chance to catch a trophy?

I'll tell you how I do it myself. My jig bag weighs over 12 kilos and I carry it with me. For what? Because jigs are the same bait as any other. Sometimes predators don't like blue, so give them pink or yellow. Other times they don't like long ones, they like short ones. And you also have to consider the fact that jigs are easy to lose while fishing. Therefore, you should have a couple of your favorites with you.

(Common pug caught on a jig. Photo © Markos Vidalis)

It is difficult to recommend specific jig models, and it would be completely irresponsible, since predators have completely different preferences from place to place, from season to season. I'm currently developing a great jig with Savage Gear that will soon be available to all anglers. I believe that it will be able to provoke the majority of our Mediterranean predatory fish to attack, and will be universal in terms of fishing locations.

My advice is to carry as many jigs as possible, change them often and experiment, just like you do when fishing with other spinning lures.

Are wobblers, poppers, walkers and other plastic baits really necessary when searching for trophy fish? Is it possible to give up on them and devote the time you have to just jigs? And if you need them, there are probably plastic baits that you always have in your box, what are they, if it’s not a secret?

When I go offshore fishing with shore jigging, I, of course, use jigs most of the time. But if nothing happens, I always try fishing with poppers, silicone baits and stickbaits.

Tell me, how to catch the moment when you should put aside the spinning rod for shore jigging and switch to plastic and silicone baits? Or vice versa?

There is no magic moment. There is a feeling. You do it when you feel like you have to. But, of course, if you see a coryphen or a lichiya hunting near the surface, then of course you should change the jig to a surface bait.

It is clear that no one has canceled the knowledge of the seasons, coupled with the activity of one or another predatory fish. However, it turns out that many fishermen, due to various circumstances, find themselves on the sea shores at a time when the situation allowed them. So what should they do? Please tell us about the tactics of finding fish. Where? What should a fisherman pay attention to when he finds himself in a particular location for the first time? Where to start searching for predatory fish on the seashores?

This is another question that anglers face. For me, fishing is my job, I carefully choose the days before I go ashore. There are many factors that can make a day either perfect for fishing or a terrible one. Moon phases, wind directions, tides, lighting conditions. All this plays a very important role. The problem is that all of these factors affect fish activity differently in different places.

(Barracuda caught on a wobbler. Photo © Markos Vidalis)

For example, in my country, the western wind has an extremely bad effect on the bite in the Saronic Gulf and fishermen call it “the wind that scares away the fish.” But in the western part of the Ionian Sea, when the wind blows from the west, fishing is more than effective. The same is true with the moon. For example, catching bluefish in Nafplio during a full moon is an absolutely pointless activity. Catching bluefish on a full moon in Chalkis - you couldn’t imagine anything better.

So it's easy to understand that if we don't keep records of every fishing trip and go at random, then it's always like a lottery, and we'll never understand or know why some days were so successful and others were not.

Today, the season determines the types of fish that will be present in your catches. For example, coryphaenas, or mahi-mahi, appear in late summer and leave at the beginning of winter, so it is almost impossible to find them in the spring.

All of the above should tell us that if we want to develop, then the worst thing is to imitate and ask other anglers how to fish. Only on your own can you improve as an angler by experimenting, keeping records, and going fishing as often as possible. The computer has never brought a single fish to the doorstep of the house.

As for searching for predatory fish “blindly”, a wide range of different types of bait and many experiments with them, starting from the surface of the sea to its bottom, will ultimately bring the desired results.

I would like to ask you about the types of fish that can and should be caught from the shore, as well as the tactics for finding them. Where to look, what to do?

This is a very difficult question that no book can answer, but I will try to give a general answer.

Always remember that fish behavior varies depending on the season and location. For example, bonito, or Atlantic bonito, love small baits in the spring, and large ones in the fall.

Differences in behavior similar to this appear in all the species described below, depending on the seasons and where they are caught.

This is probably the best answer I can give.

Bonito (bonito) - tuna?

Depths or shallow areas bordering the depths, saturated with oxygen and small forage fish. They do not like places where fresh water mixes with sea water. They generally prefer fast movements of baits in the water, in particular jigs. They like rocky shores and actively feed in harsh weather conditions throughout the daylight hours. When the sea is calm, these fish are active mainly at dawn and dusk. They attack baits in the water column and on the surface. Jigs and minnow-shaped lures are ideal for catching them!

Teeth?

They love deep places with a rocky bottom and usually calm seas. They prefer medium-sized baits, but it happens that they prefer large ones. They also hate areas where fresh water mixes with salt water. They are very active when the sun is bright and high. They do not like fast movements of jigs and other baits. The attack zone of these predators is always near the bottom. Jigs, heavy silicone lures and heavy minnow-shaped lures are the choice of zubans!

(Catching a common dentex. Video © Markos Vidalis)

Groupers?

In general, groupers' habits can be compared to that of dentex, but they are more active at dawn and before dusk. They love large baits. Jigs, heavy silicone baits and heavy minnow-shaped baits are what they need.

(Capture of Alexandrian merow. Video © Markos Vidalis)

Lichias and bluefish?

These fish love sea water mixed with fresh water. River mouths and sandy beaches are ideal places to find them. They love large baits and can attack them at both fast and medium retrieving speeds. They are mainly attacked near the surface. They can feed throughout the day, but bluefish are very active at night, unlike bluefish. Topwater and minnow lures are your best bet!

(Catching Lichia. Video © Markos Vidalis)

Amberjacks?

They love deep waters saturated with oxygen and high-speed fishing of baits. They are active throughout the day, but are more aggressive at dusk and dawn. They can attack baits from the very bottom to the surface! Jigs, heavy minnow-shaped lures and their fast animation are the key to success.

(Catching an amberjack. Video © Markos Vidalis)

Sea bass?

I can't say much about these fish, whose character changes like the color of a chameleon. You can find sea bass on a quiet night in the port, near sandy beaches in troubled waters during rough seas during the day, on rocky beaches in calm sunny weather. And you can catch it using surface and silicone baits, as well as minnow wobblers. This is the fish that set a separate direction in sea fishing, called “seabass fishing”, which is almost a science.

(Catching sea bass. Video © Markos Vidalis)

What can you say about the colors of baits for catching sea predators? Is it really that important?

The color of the bait is critical, as has been proven thousands of times. Just like in fresh water. How many times the fish did not want to react to one color of the bait, but attacked the same model, only of a different color. It's the same at sea. Sometimes all you have to do is swap out one lure color for another and the party starts!

Do you usually get to your “shore” points by boat? You have a boat, but you go ashore and fish from the shore. Is this “dedication”? Is shore fishing more effective? Or beloved?

I usually get to my places on foot. I don’t know where these conclusions come from. I only use the boat in calm weather to get to new places, but the best conditions for shore jigging are undoubtedly during rough weather. In bad weather it is impossible to get even close to the sharp rocks by boat unless you have a death wish.

(Fishing from a boat near the mouth of the river. Video © Markos Vidalis)

For spinning fishing in estuaries - yes, I like to use watercraft. But shore jigging, and shore fishing in general, as correctly noted in the question, is “dedication,” and for me one big fish caught from the rocks is worth more than ten fish caught from a boat.

You rarely show wiring of baits in your videos. Is this your secret?

This is a very one-sided way of looking at things. It's worth asking myself how much time I spend fishing and whether there is a video camera with such a huge battery. NO! That's why I've recently switched to a camera with replaceable batteries, and since last November, ALL of my videos contain not only biting moments, but also explanations of how, where and when to use certain baits. And I will continue in the same spirit. What were we talking about there? “I rarely show bait wiring?”

(How to bring a fish ashore. Video © Markos Vidalis)

To summarize, I want to say that there are no secrets in sea fishing. It's just observation and understanding. This is a whole system with its own rules and laws, which are easy to understand when we just think and concentrate, and spend time fishing, and not trying to reveal someone else’s “secret”. Revealing such “secrets” only takes us many steps back! Russians and fishermen from the countries of the former USSR are very experienced fishermen, and I am sure that they will have an excellent understanding of any fishing methods. And I really hope that the day will come when I will have the opportunity to fish in Russia!

Keep fishing guys!

Selecting the time of year and time of day

The behavior of a marine predator, just like a freshwater one, is closely related to seasonal climate changes . Also, the activity of sea fish varies greatly during the day.

As a rule, sea fish feed most actively in the warm season and in the fall, before cold weather.

As for the time of day, the greatest activity should be expected at morning and evening dawns . A fertile time for fishing from the shore is the night, when a marine predator emerges from the depths onto the coastal shallows in search of food.

However, these general recommendations are very conditional, since the behavior of fish in different seas - southern and northern, deep and shallow - is very different. Therefore, it is always better to make inquiries in advance about the water area in which you plan to fish in order to know what you need to be prepared for.

Technique: casting, retrieving, retrieving

When fishing with a spinning rod at sea, the same techniques are used as in freshwater fishing.

Casting

A feature of sea fishing is the frequent need to make long casts (if fishing occurs from the shore) and strong winds, which are often present at sea. In this situation, sharp power casts are required, which, provided that long rods and heavy baits are used, can “break through” even a hurricane wind, sending the bait over a distance of several tens of meters.

Wiring

When catching bottom predators in the coastal zone with a jig, a standard stepped retrieve is used , familiar to all spinning anglers from fishing in freshwater bodies: after casting, the bait must be allowed to sink to the bottom, after which several turns of the reel handle are made, then a pause, during which the bait falls to the bottom again , then the reel handle rotates again.

When fishing with cranks, the wobbler can be driven evenly, while the bait will go along the bottom, digging the soil with a spatula and fighting off stones. Stop and go wiring is also suitable : after casting, you need to deepen the bait to the bottom, then wait a short pause, during which the wobbler rises slightly from the bottom. This is followed by several turns of the reel handle, after which the bait again hits the bottom with a spatula, then again there is a short pause.

When fishing with oscillating spoons and jigs in the water column, near the surface or near the bottom, mostly uniform fishing is used .

But when catching large and strong fish far from the shore, slow retrieval of the bait is unacceptable: these sea predators respond primarily to fast and sharp retrieves.

Fishing

In the sea you often have to fish from breakwaters or piers, and in this case, just like when fishing from a boat, the line goes into the water at an angle close to 90 degrees . This is fraught with a high risk of rod breakage when fishing for a strong sea predator. In such a situation, a landing net with a long handle will help out the fisherman.

More details about the characteristics of the rod

For catching crucian carp with a float rod near the shore, a rod of short length (3-5 meters) is suitable, but if your goal is a larger fish, then the length of the rod should be at least 6 and no more than 10 meters. It is convenient to cast such a fishing rod far from the shore.

As for the action, this indicator should be chosen depending on the “caliber” of the fish that will be fished.

To put it simply, a fast action is suitable for intensive fishing for small fish, while a slow action will be more effective when fishing for larger fish.

For example, catching large carp with a float rod should be done with a rod with a slow action, which will allow you to dampen the powerful jerks of the fish when playing it.

Where modern float rods definitely outperform older ones is in the strength and quality of the material from which they are made. Of course, if we are talking about professional models.

The carbon-based material from which modern fishing rods are made is lightweight and relatively durable.

If you watch several videos of fishing with a float rod on the Internet, you can often see rods made of this material in the hands of professionals.

If your profession level is high, I recommend using a school map to simplify your search, however, if your craft skill is professional, then you will not see most of these spots; the higher your fishing level, the more schools you will be able to detect. You can visually identify a school by the cluster of seagulls above the water and the jumping fish; in such a place, only golden quality fish of a certain type will be caught.

It can only be equipped at craft level Professional 5 .

It is quite expensive, however, it is practically never found at auction. If you fish exclusively in schools, a special fishing rod can be considered the best tool for quickly upgrading your craft. One special fishing rod can catch about 70-75 fish. In the game you can get it by completing several quest chains, which provide access to repeatable tasks for the regular purchase of a special fishing rod; you cannot craft the tool in the workshop.

We catch algae here and mackerel on the Velia pier. Then the most thorny stage begins [Fishing in Velia] Fish for the inhabitants of Velia.

It is necessary to catch 4 types of rare fish, while the fishing zones are not marked, and there is also no auto route to the NPCs to whom you need to hand over the fish. Necessary fish (Picture enlarges by clicking, each fish has a catch node indicated)

In accordance with your craft level, the spirit will offer a task that is relevant to you to develop your current profession level. In my case, at Apprentice level 5, the Spirit paved the way to the village of Alejandro, to the NPC Kalin, to receive the quest [Fishing Level 10] Barter.

The reward of 90% of the craft level allowed me to move to the next level - Apprentice 6, and also a notification appeared that the black spirit had information about the next quest to gain fishing experience.

Ideal fishing, which will bring true pleasure, is possible when the angler does not feel any discomfort while fishing.

You can fish from the shore all your life, or you can decide to feel like a real fisherman and go out to the open sea, that is, go out on a boat to fish in the nearest body of water. The first trip on a boat for a novice fisherman is no less exciting than the first trip to a pond with a fishing rod. Choosing a boat for fishing is a separate serious task; We have already talked about choosing a boat. Today we will talk about safety and comfort rules for anglers.

In order to fish from a boat, the following factors should be considered:

  • Where to fish (river, lake, reservoir);
  • What boat will you be fishing from (size);
  • From what depths will fish be caught?
  • Is the pond familiar to the fisherman...

Ideal fishing, which will bring true pleasure, is possible when the angler does not feel any discomfort while fishing.

Having chosen a suitable place for fishing (it is better if there are several such places), you must first install two poles. The poles will perform several functions:

  • Point to the fishing spot (they should be visible from afar);
  • The boat will cling to the poles. If fishing takes place on a river with a noticeable current, then the boat should be positioned across the current. And if you plan to fish on a lake, reservoir or river with a very small current, then the boat can be installed in different ways (along the wind, along the coastline, taking into account the sun, and so on);
  • And finally, there will be complementary foods on the poles (you can attach a bag to each pole).

In order for the fish to be constantly at the fishing site, it needs to be fed and this must be done constantly, periodically changing and adding new food. In this case, she will, as it were, “graze” in this place, get used to the feeder, and success in good catches will be ensured.

At the same time, there is no need to overfeed her, otherwise she will become fat. That is, having fed first, then take breaks for several days so that the fish is on a kind of starvation diet.

But during the fishing itself, you should remember that the bite can change frequently. Therefore, you need to constantly experiment (either remove the complementary food completely, then change the bait on the hooks, then adjust the depth to half-water, and so on). But one rule should always be followed. This rule says that complementary foods should not be more attractive in taste than the bait itself, which is used to attach to hooks. Otherwise, the fish will simply ignore the bait.

One of the main conditions for any fishing is silence. Therefore, you should behave calmly, don’t make noise, don’t knock, in a word – don’t scare the fish.

The most optimal number of fishing rods for fishing is two, maximum three. You can put different baits on fishing rods, then you will be able to catch different fish.

In shallow water and in still water, the rods should be long, the sinker and float should be small. It is more convenient to fish with long rods from the stern of the boat. This will make it much more convenient to take out fishing rods and lay them along the entire length of the boat towards the bow.

If fishing takes place at great depths and during currents, then the fishing rods should be short (50-70 centimeters). It will be much easier to pull them out of the water when hooking a fish (after hooking, place the fishing rod next to the boat and continue to pull the fish out by the fishing line). The net should always be at hand.

When fishing in a current, the boat should be positioned across the current. That is, fishing rods are cast from the side of the boat.

It is also recommended to have a tummy with you (tackle for catching pike, perch and other predatory fish). To attach a tee, you need to take care of live bait in advance (they can be quickly caught right at the fishing spot). Naturally, they must be placed in a can of water, which must be changed periodically.

If you plan to fish on navigable rivers for a long time and it is already dark in the evening, and early in the morning it is not yet dawn, or maybe fog or rain suddenly begins, then in this case you need to take a good flashlight with you. It is needed to provide light signals to ships and boats walking along the fairway. It should be turned on if the sound of an approaching vessel is heard and waved in a circular motion, signaling that people are there.

You should also remember the following safety rules when fishing from a boat:

  • Be sure to have a life jacket with you;
  • Fishing is prohibited on shipping routes;
  • Do not install fishing poles on rapids, whirlpools, near cliffs and other potentially dangerous places;
  • The boat must be reliable and stable;
  • You cannot go fishing on a boat during a thunderstorm or strong wind that raises a strong wave.

It is prohibited to fish in water discharge areas at hydroelectric power plants. Let me explain. This is where a lot of fish always accumulate. During the discharge, powerful streams of water lift a mass of food from the bottom and it is at this moment that the fish begin their feast. The fish grab everything. This is where desperate fishermen strive to get, driven by fishing passion and carelessness. Very often, in the excitement of the frenzied bite, they simply forget that the next reset should be coming soon, and as a result, tragedies occur.

You should also take care of a place to spend the night and rest on the shore. Before dark, prepare firewood, set up a tent or build a hut, stock up on water, etc.

If fishing is planned for several days, then you should have a supply of salt with you (for salting fish). A true fisherman should always have a supply of various fishing gear and bait with bait.

Tips for a fisherman: How to assemble a fishing rod for winter fishing - Choosing the best

Today I would like to give a whole range of recommendations for float fishing in a review format. The main emphasis in my blog is on spinning, because... I prefer this particular tackle. But in this article we will talk about the intricacies of catching peaceful fish with float tackle . Float fishing is the most popular and widespread among amateurs. In any case, it is much more common than spinning. So, I think it’s not superfluous to provide beginners with a wealth of experience.

Tackle – float rod . To assemble suitable fishing rods, you need to at least roughly understand the nature of the reservoir where fishing will take place. I will say this: there are many options for float gear, just as there are many types of reservoirs. I will make a recommendation for a rod layout that will suit as many conditions as possible and point out the exceptions.

So, we figured it out. Rod with rings and reel. We take fishing line in accordance with the expected size of the fish. If there is little chance of purposefully catching carp, carp, silver carp, grass carp, etc. monsters - then there is no point in using a main line thicker than 0.2-0.22mm.

The float must inform the angler where the bait and sinker are located. I say this because the float-sinker combination must work very clearly and harmoniously, and not just anyhow - an important factor.

First, I’ll clarify why it’s a sliding weight, and not a traditional pellet or a piece of lead clamped on a fishing line. When a fish bites, it calmly pulls the fishing line through the hole in the sinker, immediately signaling to the float. But if the weight is firmly attached, the fish may become wary and spit out the bait ahead of time if it senses a suspicious weight when trying to swim to the side with the bait. A pellet drilled with a needle or a small olive works well as a sliding weight.

How should a float with a sinker work? When the sinker and hook on a leash are hanging in the water column, the float should look out of the water by 1-2 cm. When the nozzle is at the bottom, and the load is still hanging in the thickness, then a little more, and when the load is already lightly touching the bottom, then even more.

So, I think the best are thin floats with a long, well-marked antenna. Goose feather floats, also with a painted antenna, in the shape of a zebra, are also suitable to mark the position of the equipment.

After the float on pieces of cambric is placed on the fishing line and a sliding weight is passed through, a double loop is knitted at the end of the fishing line. There, using a loop-to-loop method, a leash 15-25 cm long is attached from a thinner fishing line than the main one. If the main line is 0.2mm, then the leash can be used 0.15-0.16mm. If the main one is 0.18mm (delicate fishing), then the leash is 0.12-0.14mm and the like.

There are three rules for a hook: sharp, expensive, proportionate to the bait. There is no logic to skimping on fishing rod hooks. By installing sharp, high-quality hooks, you will not only have a minimum of slips, but will also protect yourself from hook breakages or bending when biting carp or other powerful fish.

Regarding the number of fishing rods. I recommend 2 fishing rods maximum. In cramped conditions or when there is terrible gluttony, the second one will have to be postponed. And so, in a normal place and a moderate bite, 2 tackles is enough to try fishing at different distances from the shore, at different depths, with different baits. More than two fishing rods is a pointless tangle of gear. Unnecessary body movements that reduce the rest to hysteria! And some fish with five or six tackles... it’s a pity for them...

Time of year and time of day . In summer, the law is that the best bite of peaceful fish on fishing rods occurs at dawn - in the morning before sunrise and a couple of hours after that and in the evening, a couple of hours before sunset and before darkness. In spring and autumn, sometimes it bites all day long.

Depending on the time of year, and of course, the type of fish, you should choose bait.

Nozzles and baits . In spring and autumn, you should definitely take animal baits for fishing: dung worms, possibly bloodworms, maggots. In summer, maggots are also held in high esteem by most peaceful fish. But in the summer, when it’s hot, they start working and very seriously furnish the banal worm - vegetable baits: mastyrka, semolina, dough, mixture No. 5, pearl barley, potatoes, steamed wheat, peas, etc.

Also, in warm water it is effective to use flavorings in baits and baits: crushed fried sunflower seeds, cake, anise drops, vanillin, etc.

Technique and tactics . While at the fishing site, you should not make noise: do not make sudden movements on the shore, do not talk loudly, do not rustle with bushes and reeds - fish are not stupid... If you want to fish seriously and achieve a good result, you should not neglect this. This also includes the attitude towards your clothes - a maximum of dark colors, camouflage, khaki and other camouflage. No white T-shirts and red caps...

The technique of casting fishing rods, maneuvering them, timely hooking, competent fishing and catching fish are also important.

Remember, only “impenetrable beginners” throw a fishing rod over their heads, of course, unless we are talking about casting using a reel at 30 meters... You need to cast quietly, carefully, with a pendulum cast. With our right hand we move the rod down and to the side, and with our left hand we hold the line in the sinker area. We send the fishing line forward with the rod and at some point release the weight. Carried away by the fishing line, the rig, like the tip of a cowboy’s whip, flies far away, just as we need.

ZY Many amateurs love fishing with a fishing rod precisely for the calmness of the process. Threw down the gear, sat down and dissolved in the surrounding beauty. You forget from the bustle that reigned at work until the weekend... Some smoke, others drink beer at the same time... To enhance the effect of oblivion from everyday worries.

I, if I don’t want to actively search for fish, just enjoy the scenery, because... I don’t smoke, but I consider alcohol to be incompatible with the fishing process... Then, just on outings, on picnics, with barbecues - yes! But it’s during the fishing process, somehow not! I don't recommend it to you either. Wrong level of concentration. But to each his own, of course

Fishing technology at sea is characterized by high intensity; the casting of the fishing rod should be long. Among the key features of fishing in the Black Sea are the following:

Fishing on the Black Sea

, night fishing with a light spinning rod for bottom predators in the coastal strip has become extremely popular . This kind of fishing is very interesting and exciting, and it is accessible to everyone - no special gear is required for it, and there is no need to go out to sea on a boat.

Silicone baits are used on weight heads, which are carried with standard jig wiring, and wobblers. The main trophies are scorpionfish, bison and croaker , and if the weight of the former often does not exceed 100 g, then a croaker caught on a hook can weigh more than 5 kg, and this is already a very serious rival, the fishing of which will most likely be remembered for a lifetime.

Tackle for fishing on the Black Sea from the shore.

For catching sea fish, as for fishing on the river, use a standard float rod. Its use is limited to places where there are piers, moorings, breakwaters or breakwaters. In such a place, long-distance casting of the tackle is not required; the fish stands along the wall and eagerly responds to the offered bait. Rods are used with a length of 4 - 5 meters; a spinning reel with a spool length of 1000 or more is required.

Despite the fact that fishing is carried out along coastal structures, the depth along them reaches several tens of meters; therefore, for successful fishing, at least 30 - 35 meters of fishing line with a diameter of 0.25 millimeters are used. You can catch with a float rod:

  • sea crucian;
  • sea bass;
  • bull;
  • mullet;

The rod test must be selected based on the weight of the baits used. For spinning, focus on a small range of artificial baits, and for fishing with a feeder or donk, you need to take a wider range, based on the weight of the equipped feeders.

Often, fishermen use side rods for fishing from a boat, but you can also use regular fishing rods, the main thing is that their size allows them to fit comfortably in the boat. Fishing with long rods is not very convenient.

From my own experience, I will say that it is best to use spinning or feeder rods with a length of 1.65 to 2.10 m.

The rod test must be selected based on the weight of the baits used. For spinning, focus on a small range of artificial baits, and for fishing with a feeder or donk, you need to take a wider range, based on the weight of the equipped feeders.

There are not so many equipment that you may need while fishing. It all depends on the type of fishing, but most often fishermen use:

A variety of equipment is used for the feeder, the choice of which depends on the object being fished and the fishing conditions. Thin fluorocarbon fishing line is often used as material for leashes. However, most often silver bream and bream are caught using feeder gear, but sometimes other fish also become targets.

It is prohibited to fish in water discharge areas at hydroelectric power plants. Let me explain. This is where a lot of fish always accumulate.

  • Be sure to have a life jacket with you;
  • Fishing is prohibited on shipping routes;
  • Do not install fishing poles on rapids, whirlpools, near cliffs and other potentially dangerous places;
  • The boat must be reliable and stable;

Test for the weight category of such a spinning rod from 200 to 500 g. The main role in this is played by the weight of the bait used and the fish itself that is supposed to be caught. A rod with large parameters is more difficult to find in fishing stores, but, as a rule, there is no great need for it.

Features of fishing in the Sea of Azov

The Sea of Azov is very shallow; you usually have to fish at a depth of 2-5 m. The sea area is rich in fish, but here, in order to remain with a good catch, it is important to know the hunting areas of the predator . Since there is practically no vegetation and stones in the Sea of Azov, there is simply nothing to catch on when searching, and finding fish in such a situation is very difficult.

Goby can be caught in the coastal zone using light and ultralight gear . To hunt for pike perch and flounder, it is better to use a boat .

In general, it is not the sea itself that is more promising for fishing, but the estuaries on its coast - there a spinning angler can usually count on a more decent catch.

Safety regulations

Since the sea is unpredictable, the angler must follow certain safety rules . If they are not followed, fishing can cost your health, or even your life.

When preparing for fishing at sea, you need to:

  • listen to the weather forecast in advance;
  • choose clothing and equipment appropriate for the weather;
  • choose rescue equipment appropriate for fishing conditions.

Also, if possible, it is worth consulting with people who already have experience in fishing in this area. When at sea, it is better not to go far from a place where you can shelter from bad weather.
