Upa is a place for fisherman

Main rivers of Tula

In the Tula region there are rivers that are mainly fed by meltwater from the Don and Oka. The territory is penetrated entirely by small rivers, and is also dotted with lakes and ponds. Every fisherman who has been hunting here at least once will be able to remember the cozy backwaters of small reservoirs, as well as the rushing surface of the dark water of large rivers. In Tula, fishing has always been successfully organized, because the city has many retail outlets to help fishermen. Here they can purchase the desired attributes: clothes, tackle, bait and bait.

But fishing is difficult in those areas where the rivers are navigable. The movement of water, especially in the area of locks, disbands the flow of fish and scares them away. The rivers of the Tula region include: Osetr, Upa, Ista and Nepryadva. They are all rich in fish; there are more than fifty species. Including expensive sterlet.

Fishing on the Upa River has already become one of the most favorite fishing destinations. Many people prefer this river even to the Oka itself. And all because there is not only an abundant bite, but also the beauty of the local landscapes. When the times of pre-industrialization came, local village residents, after the snow melted, collected a lot of fish from the ground that remained.

In the Shchekinsky district there is the village of Nikolskoye, it is located fifty kilometers from the city. Here you will find a good place. There are quite convenient approaches to the river, there are rifts. The waters are home to catfish, bream, pike perch, medium-sized perch and pike. As fishermen who know this place say, such fish very often ends up on their table. In the summer, it is recommended to fish with artificial baits with a spinning rod, and with natural baits with classic fishing rods. Moreover, wheat and corn should be used as bait. Other species of fish also live in such a place, and sometimes you can find crayfish.

Fishing on the Upa River

There is an excellent place on the Upa River, which is famous for a huge amount of different fish.
This place is located near the village of Pershino. From the village to Tula it is approximately 35 kilometers. The banks of the Upa are overgrown with bushes and grass, but the places where a lot of fish live are open, as fishermen regularly visit them. Roach, bleak and perch are caught in the river with great success. Pike and chub are also caught with great success. To catch a chub, you need to have good fishing skills for this type of fish. Those who like to sit with a float rod and also many spinning anglers go to the river. The river is small and, as a rule, the fish in such reservoirs are very cautious, so you need to remain quiet and properly camouflage. After approaching the river, you need to wait a little. The fish should calm down and relax a little. Spinning anglers most often catch predators with silicone baits; spinners and wobblers are not popular on Upa. Perch can be caught quite well with silicone twisters.

Pike should be caught near bushes that hang from steep banks, as well as near those that grow directly from the water. She suddenly jumps out from under the bush and grabs the bait. The fisherman must be ready to move the pike away from the bush in time, otherwise it will quickly rush into the bushes, and it will not be so easy to remove it from there. You may even have to leave the equipment in these bushes. The rod should be of medium length or maximum, but not short, since a short rod will not be able to hold off a predator that will lead you under a bush.

Pike fishing on Upa

When fishing for pike on the Upa, it is worth remembering one main rule - you cannot approach the edge of the shore. It is better not to reach the edge a few meters. If you stand close to the water, the pike will immediately begin to move away from nearby places. She will also be more wary of the bait. Sometimes, standing on the edge of the shore, anglers throw a spinning rod, but there is no point, the pike does not even try to attack the bait. And fishermen who stand at a distance of one and a half meters or more from the water have great success catching pike weighing 1 kilogram or more.

What else is attractive about Upa?

Not far from Nikolskoye there are known fish spawning areas where fish cannot be fished. The village of Pershino is especially popular. Here the banks are not particularly swampy, the current is fast, and the places are panoramic. The village is located 35 km from Tula. Fishing with spinning rods and floats is allowed. In the waters, fishermen will encounter about ten species of fish, including juicy ones as rare as chub. Seven kilometers from the city, if you move in the Kaluga direction, fishermen will see a pond near the village of Inshinsky. The fish there is excellent, but you need to fish there before the start of the beach season.

The summer fishing season starts in May, which means you need to catch plenty of fish before the heat comes. As for the banks, they are thoroughly overgrown with mud. But this does not at all prevent many fishermen from keeping their watch. The Upa River is extremely beautiful in the Odoevsky district. Contrary to the claims of some dissatisfied people, the water here is clean and there are no emissions from factories. And boat rafting is a real pleasure here.

Along Upa there is also the village of Barsuki, which has three ponds. A lot of fish live in them. In Barsuki there is also a spring with delicious clean water for you. In the village of Krutitsy, nature has also prepared a picturesque place for vacationers and locals. But it won’t be easy to get to it, since its location is off the paved roads. You'll have to drive through hills and fields. But pike in local reservoirs can be caught weighing more than three kilos. Perch and several other species of fish will also delight you.

Lakes in the Tula region

It is impossible to find large lakes in the region, but there are more than enough small ones. Most of them offer a paid type of fishing, as tenants regularly clean the pond and surrounding area, and also release fry.

The most popular bases are:

  • near the village of Ivankovo;
  • near the village of Konduki;
  • the village of Oktyabrsky is famous;
  • near the village of Rechki.

You need to take a lot of different gear, unless, of course, you have personal preferences. You will need everything in your arsenal and a little more.

You can catch:

  • tench;
  • perch;
  • grass carp;
  • carp;
  • crucian carp;
  • soma;
  • trout;
  • sturgeon;
  • silver carp;
  • pike.

I've been working hard in the fishing tackle department for the past six years. I can help you assemble almost any gear.

Ask a Question

They usually do not take money for caught roach and bleak; for other types of fish you will have to pay according to the price list, which must be shown before fishing begins.

Novomoskovsk is famous for its large trophy pikes. According to fishermen, the toothy predator here is very picky, so you have to work hard to catch it.

Many bases will offer fishermen a comfortable stay in cottages for a fee. Entire companies of fishermen and their families often come here; the length of stay is agreed upon in advance, since there are a lot of vacationers in the summer.

Fishing on the Oka

Many fish-rich and picturesque places are located on the outskirts of Tula in the Kaluga direction, near the Oka River. An example is the village of Kolyupanova, where the convent is located. Here you will see amazing fishing spots, as well as a spring that is called holy. Fishermen still often talk about the village of Dugna. It can be found 70 km from the city of Tula.

In Dugna, it is best to fish with a bottom fishing rod or spinning rod, and also use a quoka. This is a special product that attracts catfish. Quokka makes croaking and clapping sounds. It is better to fish with corn, crawler or live bait. As the local guys say, then you can catch catfish, asp, bream, burbot and saberfish.

Most of my fishing took place on the tributaries of the Don, of which there are plenty in our area. But there is a river in the region that somehow fell out of my sight. And the river is not small. Her name is Upa.

The Upa is a medium river that flows through the Tula region. Flows into the Oka. In the city of Sovetsk Upa forms the Shchekinskoe reservoir. Interestingly, the predator is not very caught in the reservoir. At one time, Canadian catfish were bred there. But now he has been almost completely eliminated. But they catch crucian carp from the ice there. Sometimes it’s terrible for people on the ice.

In Upa itself there are pike, chub, perch, and asp. Catfish, they say, have recently begun to appear.

Well, we decided to start exploring Upa in search of pike.

The first attempt was a week ago. We visited places up to the Shchekino Reservoir. The pike was not caught then. Between the two of us there was one unfulfilled bite. But I liked the places. Next year we'll probably go there again.

Upa near the village of Krutitsy

Here you understand why the village is named Krutitsy.

This weekend, since the weather permits, we decided to go to Upa again. Just check the places below the reservoir.

Initially there were plans to fish near the village of Sergievskoye. The village lies on the Tula-Novomoskovsk highway. It's about 45 kilometers away from me. According to stories, there are a lot of pike there. But not big. It’s not easy to catch, it’s very snaggy. The story of a work comrade brought confusion into our heads. The other day his son and a group of feeder lovers visited Tula. Belle was not caught. But one had a spinning rod, which caught a pike a little over a kilo. They really liked the place. It's just going to take twice as long.

In general, we decided where to go after leaving the city. We decided to go to a distant cordon. The stump is clear, all the fish are there, on the distant cordon.

The road is great, the asphalt is almost to the place. We had to drive 3 kilometers across the field. Having reached the village, where the asphalt ended, we paused in thought. We didn't have any trace of rain. And here, apparently, it spilled quite a lot the other day. Fortunately, a local guy was passing by - No, he said, “You can’t drive to the river in your belly truck now.”

What an ambush. What we are going to do?

“You go to Berniki,” the guy advised. Just 3 km more. You will reach the bridge. And there, go either right or left. People are catching there. There were no options. They bowed to the guy and turned to the gas.

We reached the bridge quickly. Place away from the main road. We found a drier spot and parked there.

Well, since we didn’t know the places, we decided to dance right from the bridge.

Khachaturian. Saber dance. Free interpretation. Soloist M. Belyaev

Seryozhka, shocked by my dance

The fishing conditions were unknown to us. That's why I took 2 spinning rods with me. Raisers from Crafts. I haven't been apart from them lately.

One for jig RZS-832 ML (5-21). The stick is positioned as a universal stick, as evidenced by the inscription All round strategy. But jig is her priority. Second riser RZS-702 H (10-42). This one is for large minnows. The inscription does not ambiguously explain the purpose - Bigbait animator. Later I’ll try to do reviews on spinning rods.

Seryo has a Green Runner spinning rod (210 7-32) from Grows Culture. The spinning rod was caught on a jig just below the confluence of the Kirpichny Erik and Mitinka about 5 years ago. The katukhen there was kind of terrifying; there was no point in washing and cleaning it. And I left the spinning rod. When Seryoga began to show interest in spinning, I gave him this stick. That's what he calls him - "the drowned man"

He uses it with all the baits that he has. But in my opinion, he is more twitching.

The river in those places is about 40 meters wide. Depths 2-2.5 meters. The eyebrow is very pronounced. I really liked this. In Krutitsy there was no edge. There is a channel shaped like a trough. Near the shores 50-70 cm, gradual decline of the bottom. The fish is not tied. And here everything is very readable.

Of course we started with a jig.

I haven’t really fished with jigs this season. All wobblers, wobblers. And how I wanted to feel the blow during the pause. The last 3 fishing trips were empty. I caught one perch and that was it. It was necessary to rehabilitate himself in the eyes of his wife. Quite soon, Seryoga shot the bait and, after thinking a little, installed a Cristal minnow 7F wobbler from Yo-Zury.

At first I was skeptical about his actions. The depth is not suitable for this wobbler. Yes, it's late autumn. It is unlikely that the pike will rise after him. But pretty soon Seryoga got a bite. The pike missed and hit the leash. The water is cloudy after rain. Soon Zurik was replaced by Greedy Gads 55 from P21.

By the end of the season, Serenya had no other wobblers left. With a leash from a vole, the wobbler came out slowly sinking. The pike appreciated the replacement. And soon the first toothy one fluttered in the hands of the happy Seryozhka
