Abakan is a place for fisherman

Fishing in the Republic of Khakassia and Abakan

famous for its rich catch, known not only for its unique mountain rivers and lakes, but also for its healing mineral springs. There are many places in the region where you can catch grayling, taimen, crucian carp, etc.

Many professionals come to this region every year, where popular fishing tournaments are held. Lakes Itkul, Tus, Vlasyevo, Belyo and many others, rich in fish, attract not only the opportunity to return home with a rich catch, but also their picturesque shores, where you can relax with loved ones, combining a pleasant pastime with your favorite pastime.

Reservoirs of the Republic of Khakassia

Reservoirs of Khakassia
The main river of the region is the Yenisei, which is blocked by the dam of the Sayano-Shushenskaya hydroelectric station. The Sayano-Shushenskoye reservoir is 312 km long. The mountains surrounding the reservoir, the blue sky and clouds floating across the sky are reflected in the crystal clear water, which makes the reservoir very picturesque. In addition to the Yenisei, there are about four hundred more rivers on the territory of the Republic. Most of them are located in mountainous areas, characterized by rapid currents, crystal clear and very cold water, and an abundance of rapids and waterfalls.

Lakes in the region are located at a wide range of altitudes. In mountainous areas there are not only fresh and salt lakes, but also ultra-fresh lakes, which is not typical for any other corner of the world. Noteworthy are the Ivanovo lakes, located in a cascade and connected by waterfalls, the bitter-salty lake Ulug-Kol, Lake Khankul located in a specially protected area, the largest mineral lake in the Belyo region. In addition to those listed above, there are other lakes, of which there are more than five hundred. As a rule, most lakes are small in area and relatively shallow. Rivers originate from many lakes.

Fishing spots in Khakassia

The local lakes contain many 35 species of fish, the meat of which is famous for its excellent taste, but the most popular destination among visitors is Abakan, one of the largest tributaries of the Yenisei. Grayling, lenok, taimen - these are the species that you can catch here.

The Uy River is another tributary of the Yenisei near the village of Maina. Popular for its clear water. It is not difficult to get here by car; there are many creeks along the river itself. This is the place for you if you are interested in trout, perch, or grayling.

Lake Big Kyzykul is mainly visited by those who love or want to learn how to catch pike, because there is a lot of it here. Crucian carp also live here. According to fishermen, the main advantages of the place include nature, almost untouched by humans, and a smooth road. True, it is better to stock up on mosquito and midge repellent in advance.

The Sayano-Shushenskoye Reservoir in the Joyki area is also a popular place among those who like to cast a fishing rod. It’s hard to leave here without a catch: pike, perch, and grayling live here in large numbers. However, you should be careful; in the local forests it is not difficult to encounter a bear.

Many people prefer a respite on Tuba to the one described above. Closer to the mouth, carp are caught well. The water here is clear and warm, and it’s also an excellent opportunity to enjoy the magnificent landscapes.

You can stay in houses, of which there are a large number for tourists in Khakassia. On average, the cost of accommodation is about 10,000 rubles per day for the entire group (in some houses up to 7 people). There is everything you need for a comfortable stay: a sauna, a gas stove, a stove, dishes, beds, etc.

If you wish, you can go on a one- or two-day tour, then you won’t have to deal with the problems of renting a house and finding a “fishing spot” - the guide will show you all this, because fishing as a fun activity for tourists is included in most tour packages. There are tours specialized only in fishing, for example, the Kazyr Sources route, rafting on the Kantegir River and the like.

Abakan is a place for fisherman

Tomorrow, June 30, the spring-summer spawning ban will cease to apply on the reservoirs of Khakassia. As 19rus.info reported, from April 20 to June 20, fishing on Abakan was completely prohibited. This is done annually.

Now the happy time of the summer fishing season has come for fishermen. “Chance” made a short review of fishing spots that are located in the vicinity of Abakan or a little further away.

Abakan River and its channels

The Abakan River is one of the largest left-bank tributaries of the Yenisei. Its length is 514 km. The river is very rich in a wide variety of fish - grayling, taimen, lenok, dace, perch, pike, roach and so on. In the vicinity of the capital of Khakassia, on the Abakan River, perch, roach, and pike take good bait. In the small and shallow channels of Abakan, which are located on the islands in the Polyarka region, you can very effectively fish for crucian carp, carp, and bream. You can easily catch specimens weighing one kg or more. The bait is the simplest - earthworm, maggot, bread. The Abakan River is very popular among local fishermen for its walking distance from the city, good bite and beautiful scenery.

“Yes, I spent my entire childhood here,” says a fisherman named Valery, who sat comfortably with two fishing rods on the shore of Abakan, in the Vodokanal area. “Back then there were a lot of ruffe and gudgeon, now there are more dace and sorog, I’ve already caught a lot in an hour,” Valery nods at the bucket where a dozen medium-sized fish are swimming.

Tasheba River

A small tributary of the Yenisei River, only 35 km long, despite its insignificant size, caused a major flood in Abakan in 1969. Located west of the capital of Khakassia.

Fishing Features

A land of unique landscapes and natural beauties, Khakassia has more than three hundred rivers, almost a thousand lakes, and more than two dozen reservoirs. Truly endless fishing opportunities! The catch can be such well-known leaders in taste, fish breeds as grayling and lenok, burbot, taimen. In total, almost 35 species of fish are found in natural reservoirs and rivers of Khakassia.

Fishermen choose different types of favorite active leisure.
Some people travel along familiar routes in their own car, others prefer new experiences in unexplored places and turn to the help of experienced local guides who are experts in the intricacies of local fishing. Guests of Khakassia are offered various fishing tours, as well as accommodation in guest houses and recreation centers located near the “fishing” places. Fishing in Khakassia
The best time to fish in Khakassia is in August; the fishing season begins at the beginning of summer and ends with the last month of summer. In winter, only closed reservoirs of the republic are considered safe for fishing (especially if the winter is warm): Kalininsky quarry (Ust-Abakansky district), lakes Chernoe, Sosnovoe, Podgornoye (in Beyskoye), Farkal (in Shirinsky). The Abakan River is safe only in the Abaza area.

Grayling fishing

On small Khakassian rivers you can catch grayling very successfully. There are quite a lot of this representative of the salmon family in the following waterways of the republic:

  • White Iyus;
  • Ouch;
  • This;
  • Jebash;
  • Tashtyp;
  • Uybat.

On a note! Grayling begins to be active in the second half of May, when a massive emergence of insects is observed. At this time, light fly fishing gear is most effective. Floating imitations of various beetles, as well as mayflies and caddis flies, are used as baits.

Fishing for grayling in the summer becomes quite difficult, as the fish move to deeper parts of the river and show increased caution. From June to September, good results are shown by small fly fishing nymphs, which are presented in the bottom layers of water.

In the autumn, grayling begins to show predatory tendencies and willingly takes small spinners.

In autumn, a significant part of the grayling’s diet consists of small fish, so they begin to pay attention to small spinning baits:

  • rotating spoons No. 00–1;
  • crank wobblers up to 4 cm long;
  • small "oscillations".

In winter, grayling on the river should be looked for in coastal pools 1.5–2.5 m deep, where it can be caught with a jig or vertical spoon.

Fishing in the Republic of Khakassia

The low anthropogenic load on the region's water bodies and the absence of large industrial enterprises make the region environmentally friendly, which is especially appreciated by residents of large cities. There is a lot of fish here and a wide variety of fish. With a certain amount of luck and skill level, you can catch enviably large specimens of fish. Fish species characteristic of both Europe and Siberia are found in the reservoirs of Khakassia. For perch you should go to Itkul, for trout and other salmon fish to Belyo, grayling and lenok to Tur, Vlasyevo, Tus. Pike, perch, chebak, and ide are caught everywhere. Some of the reservoirs are purposefully stocked with fish, which gives even more opportunities for amateur fishermen to get an indescribable delight from fishing.

Fishing on most reservoirs in Khakassia is free and allowed throughout the year, except for the spawning period. In winter, there are also more than enough people who want to go fishing in the reservoirs. The fishing passion is usually so strong that it allows you to ignore severe weather conditions (wind and frosts down to -40 C). Travelers who travel to the Republic of Khakassia for the first time need to familiarize themselves with the peculiarities of local environmental legislation, as well as choose bodies of water where fishing is free or carried out for a small fee. Those fishermen who use the services of fishing and tourism companies find themselves in the best conditions. This allows you to spend time usefully instead of understanding the terrain with the features of the coastline, searching for access roads, fishing spots, and spending it on solving other problems related to organizing leisure time.

Fishing on the Abakan River

The main waterway of Khakassia is Abakan. Fishing on Abakan is something that any angler can dream of. There is a lot of fish in this river, it is very diverse, and most importantly it is caught well. This is a fast, wide river with amazingly clean and tasty water. Very interesting and productive fishing on this river while rafting along it, you can not only have plenty of fishing in different places and for different fish, but also admire its beauty and unusual nature in different parts of the river. Usually the rafting lasts 7-10 days and during this time anyone who has visited Abakan will forever fall in love with this delightful river.

What could be more romantic, the first day on the river, the first overnight stop, in a wild place alone with nature, the first fishing, the first fish soup. The most convenient way to raft along Abakan is on a large multi-seat raft, reliable and practically unsinkable, which makes it easy to travel along a fast and sometimes stormy river. Fishing on Abakan during rafting is possible directly from board, but you can moor to the shore and fish there.

It is best to fish with a fly and spoon while rafting. On short rests among the fir and cedar trees, it is always pleasant to drink a cup of coffee brewed over a fire, sip delicious fish soup and eat fresh fish baked on coals. Taiga, mountains - beauty! Life in the taiga always attracts with its difference from the one to which we are accustomed; it is one thing to look at the taiga on TV and quite another to directly come into contact with it, feel its breath and its special energy. There is a very diverse fauna here, wild goats, bears, deer, wolverines, foxes, many birds, sometimes you can see some of them with your own eyes.

Along the banks you can sometimes see hunting huts-winter huts; they are usually placed at the mouths of small rivers flowing into Abakan; it is very convenient to stay in them for the night.
The Khakass, the indigenous people of these places, are welcoming and friendly people; they will always give you bread, matches, salt if you ask for it, but will refuse payment. The main law of the taiga is to help each other, even strangers. Fishing in the Republic of Khakassia
Today there are many different inspections on the river, fishing, transport, environmental protection, they are well armed and, unlike our traffic cops, they do not solve “problems” on the spot. If there are violations, the fine will be issued in full. The shores of Abakan abound in driftwood, so that wood for a good fire can always be obtained in abundance. Fishing on the Abakan River has its own undeniable rule: parking is done in the place where it was successful and there is a good catch. For this reason, the camp is set up anywhere, on the slopes, under a rock, in the taiga, the main thing is that the bite is good. Sometimes, at good sites, you can catch the owner of the river at night - taimen. Of course, fishing for taimen is officially prohibited, but hardly any fishermen can resist the temptation to catch the “master of the river.” And even more so if he was caught by chance. Everyone decides for themselves to let go of such a “gift of fate” or...

Ichthyologists claim that almost all adult specimens of this fish are infected with nematodes. After all, taimen, a pronounced predator, feeds not only on fish, but also on birds and rodents, indiscriminately eating rats, ducks, mice, squirrels, etc. Local fishermen claim that some of the taimen they caught had more than 20 squirrels in their stomachs or rats. Typically, such a number of rodents are caught by the river giant during periods of large migrations, when a large number of rodents are transported across rivers. The presence of parasites can be determined by looking at the liver; they can be noticed immediately. It’s unlikely that anyone will want to see a dish of this fish on their table after this.

Fishing on the Abakan River during rafting is mainly for grayling. When fresh, grayling is an incredibly tasty fish, and it doesn’t matter if it’s fried or in the form of fish soup, but most fishermen who have prepared this fish claim that the most delicious grayling is smoked. The fish has tender meat, but when kept in brine for a long time, it significantly loses its taste. So, it’s not worth catching a lot of it for future use if there is no way to smoke it.

During rafting, one of the important points is the psychological compatibility of team members. We think. That in ordinary life you can live with anyone for one week. But on a rafting trip where teamwork is necessary, if there are contradictions, they will definitely result in conflict. Especially between people, relationships can become strained in a critical situation. Emerging conflicts must be extinguished in any way, even without sparing one’s own pride, because the taiga does not like jokes. And disagreements can end very badly, but you can understand the causes of the conflict even after the rafting.

The beauty of this river is simply mesmerizing, and fishing on Abakan is very pleasing with excellent bite and excellent catches of mainly grayling and lenok, but you can also hunt for pike. When you float along this river, you get the unusual impression that you are moving through crystal or through the air; the transparency of the bottom is extraordinary and it can be seen many meters ahead. And when you put your hand in the water, it begins to ache from the cold, the water in this river is so cold. In the summer heat, it’s better not to get into the water, but to rinse yourself with a mug.

Let's get back to fishing. Fishing for grayling in Abakan. It is especially effective on a variety of flies, because the diet of this fish is largely dominated by insects. Catching this fish is very interesting, because bites happen right before your eyes. A splash occurs, and now you feel the resistance of a strong fish. As for lenok, it is preferable to catch it with a spoon, but first you need to choose something that the fish will “like”. The Khakass call Lenka - “uskuch”. Usually this fish prefers to stand in quiet areas. Lenok, like grayling, is a beautiful fish and also very tasty; after all, it also belongs to the noble salmon.

Grayling fishing in Khakassia

Fishing in Khakassia
Each lake in Khakassia is uniquely beautiful and has its own special features. A huge number of impressions await tourists. The nature of the republic is conducive to a good rest, and coupled with human labor - tourist centers, guest houses - determines the popularity of the destination for fans of active tourism. In Khakassia there are various travel agencies offering “fish” trips.

On the mountain river Ona you can find delicious fish - lenok and grayling. Some individuals of these breeds can reach a couple of kilograms, and on average the weight of the fish is 300-400 grams. Grayling is found in cold, clear waters, both lakes and mountain rivers. The fish stays close to the surface of the water in summer, eating insects that have fallen to the surface of the reservoir, but can also sink to the bottom.

It is unlikely that you will be able to catch grayling in large lakes. The best chance of catching is behind rocks, shallows, and islands. In small rivers, large specimens can graze under the currents of riffles. It is also easy to spot fish where there is no fast current - in the grass, under steep banks. The higher up the river, the larger the fish.

It is best to catch grayling on a stormy day, after midnight until early morning, in the evening until dusk, since the fish does not like bright light. Light-colored larvae are used as bait; bright, wet flies that imitate larvae, bedbugs, and worms are also suitable. Streamers in the form of fish fry can be used. It is surprising that in the same place fish can be caught by different fishermen using completely different baits, and the “luck” (this or that bait) of one fisherman does not help another in catching at all.

In the lakes and reservoirs of Khakassia you can catch carp, large predatory fish, including taimen, pike, perch, which have reached significant sizes due to small forage fish. Large reservoirs contain fish both Siberian and typical for Europe. For fishing they use fishing rods, spinning rods, and seines.

Where to put it in to take it out?

"CHANCE" has prepared a review of places for summer fishing.
With the start of the summer fishing season, “Chance”, following its old tradition, decided to make a short review of fishing spots that are located in the vicinity of Abakan or a little further away. Anyway, let's get started.

A small tributary of the Yenisei River, only 35 km long, despite its insignificant size, caused a major flood in Abakan in 1969. Located west of the capital of Khakassia. “On Tasheba, it’s best to fish in the vicinity of the village of Sapogovo,” says our fishing expert Evgeny Kuligin. – Dace, crucian carp, gudgeon, and sorog are caught here. When the water level in the Abakan River rises, even carp come in, but generally the bite here is rather sluggish and unstable. The gear and bait are the most common - a simple fishing rod, earthworms, bread, caddis.

Lake Turpanye.

Drainage channels of Abakan

Not the best place for fishing. Although there are fish in the drains (perch, mainly), they are all infected with parasites, since sewer discharges are made into the canals. So avoid fishing in these areas. “Nothing really bites here,” explains a man in a hat, sitting boredly on the bank of a drain in Polyarka and listlessly looking at the float. – I just came to the shore to take a break from family life, my wife sawed something today, but I couldn’t go with my bare hands, I took the fishing rod with me. And even if I take something out, I’ll put it back out - you can’t eat this fish, it’s just worms.

These are the types of crucian carp that the reservoir abounds in. Fishermen call them “piglets”.

Once upon a time there was a very good place for fishing and close to the city, I was great at taking large bream, 700-800 grams, on a simple fishing rod. Whitefish were found in great abundance, pike and perch were caught. “Yes, that was about 20 years ago,” says a fisherman named Vladimir, “now he takes something, but not as much as before.” Small breams and other small things, but I haven’t seen real pike or bream here for a long time. I think the reason is that people come here to wash cars from Abakan, Kalinino, Chernogorsk - from all over the area in general. Look, look,” Vladimir points to two car enthusiasts with buckets and rags, who are lovingly rubbing their cars, “but gasoline and oil get into the water and poison the fish. I’ve been sitting here for two hours already, there were a couple of bites and that’s it, now I’ll go to Abakan and try to sit there some more, but I don’t really like fishing on rivers, I prefer lakes or quarries.

Very good fishing in late June - early July at the mouth of the Tuba River, not far from where it flows into the Krasnoyarsk Reservoir. Here you can find crucian carp, carp, pike, and sorog. Tackle: fishing rod or spinning rod, canned corn, bread, maggot, earthworm can be used as bait. – If we talk about the Krasnoyarsk reservoir, then one of the best places for fishing is the area of the village of Znamenka, which is located on the Khakassian coast in the Bogradsky district of the republic. Carp, bream, crucian carp take well here - from 300 grams to a kilogram,” explains our expert Evgeniy.

Sergei Nikolaevich with a catch.

This is the ancient bed of the Yenisei River in the Altai region of Khakassia, in the center of the Koibal steppe. It is a flat swampy area that includes a large number of small lakes: Stolbovoe, Dog, Podgornoe, Zalivnoe, Turpanye, Mayrykhkol or as it is also called - Kosharnoe, Sosnovoe and many other small reservoirs. This has always been one of the most favorite places among fishermen of Khakassia. Lake Turpanye, one of the largest in the tract, is especially popular among fishing enthusiasts. “This is my favorite lake, I’ve been coming here for 20 years and always come back with a good catch,” says a fisherman we met on the shore of Turpany, a resident of Abakan named Sergei Nikolaevich. “I’ve only been here for half an hour, and I’ve already pulled out crucian carp and several dace from my heels.” And if there is dace, then the water in the lake is clean. In general, it’s better to fish here from a boat, swim deeper into the reeds, there you can catch a decent carp, it goes well with corn, and you can also catch an ordinary maggot or earthworm. And so here everything is caught - large crucian carp, up to a kilo, and dace, and pike. We come here all the time as a family, with our grandchildren and with work colleagues. Today I just stopped by for an hour to have fun, but soon I’m going to go out in earnest - with an overnight stay, with a boat, so that I can fish normally. Oops! Another one! – Sergei Nikolaevich carefully removes the silver crucian carp from the hook. “And the other day I was fishing on Lake Kosharnoye, it’s nearby, and I also caught a decent amount of crucian carp and dace.

Lake Kutuzhekovo is a good place for beginner fishermen. It is located about 60 km from Abakan, towards Lake Tagarskoye. This reservoir is ideal for a fishing trip with the whole family. The lake has smooth shores and shade. As for fish, silver crucian carp takes very well here on a regular fishing rod. The bait is also the simplest: earthworm, maggot, bread. Crucian carp is small in size, about 10 centimeters. “In general, this is more likely not fishing, but relaxation,” explains Evgeniy. – Personally, we don’t catch a lot of fish on Kutuzhekovo, about 20 fish, so we can immediately fry them right on the shore. Overall a great place.

Lake Big Kyzykul

Popular fishing tours

In Khakassia, fishing tourism is a well-developed branch of the leisure and travel industry. Tours are organized with fishing in large rivers and reservoirs, in tributaries where grayling and lenok are caught. Trophy white fish, pike perch and pike, carp, and grass carp can also be prey.

Along mountain rivers, fishing is aimed at lenok and grayling; there are tours focused only on catching taimen. In some lakes of Khakassia, trout has taken root, since the climate of the region is suitable for this fish, the water here is cold. In such reservoirs, fishing is entirely on a commercial basis.

In Khakassia, along rivers with good fishing spots, paths are trodden along the banks, which indicates frequent visits by tourists and fishermen. It should be noted the cleanliness and lack of litter along the banks, which allows you to fully enjoy the views. Access by car is not possible to all bodies of water in Khakassia.

Companies specializing in fishing tourism deliver fishermen to such places. Where a car cannot pass, an SUV or all-terrain vehicle will pass. For a comfortable stay, colorful Siberian fishing bases have been built on popular reservoirs.

As part of an organized tour, you can go along the Sayano-Shushenskoye reservoir, to the mouth of Tepsel, to lakes Bele and Itkul. The boat tour in the direction “Khemchik-Usinsky Bay” is very popular.

During a fishing tour-cruise, the most fastidious fishermen and novice fishermen can try their fishing luck. Various reservoirs and mountain rivers with their inhabitants, vast areas of untouched nature, where representatives of the animal world protected by the Red Book live, photographing bears, mountain sheep, elk from board a boat, hikes to waterfalls and, of course, valuable trophies in abundance - all this awaits you in as part of an exciting journey.

Tourists on a fishing tour should stock up on warm clothes, including a waterproof and windproof suit, a tracksuit, a long-sleeved shirt, cotton trousers and a T-shirt, rubber boots, and spare shoes. You also need insect repellent (mosquito net), sunscreen, hat - sun protection, sealed packaging for documents, fishing tackle, headlamp, work (construction) gloves.

Fishing places in Khakassia in remote areas

Excellent fishing awaits you at the end of June at the Krasnoyarsk reservoir at the mouth of the Tuba River. This area is remote from large populated areas and is home to large fish that are easy to catch with simple bait. You can spend a few pleasant days on the shore, sleeping in a tent, or visit local villages that have everything you need for tourism and fishing.

The system of lakes in the Koibal steppe is one of the most interesting fishing places in Khakassia, as it combines a good bite and a unique landscape. The ancient bed of the Yenisei passed through this place, which left behind a number of small lakes. Each of them received its own name, and small reservoirs turned into a wonderful vacation spot for city residents and visiting tourists. One of the most lakes in the system called Turpanye attracts many fishermen from all over Russia and the world.

If you are just discovering the delights of fishing, we recommend going to Lake Kutuzhekovo. It is located 60 kilometers from Abakan and is suitable not only for single-minded individuals with fishing rods, but also for those who relax with the whole family. The flat coastline, warm water and beautiful nature are complemented by excellent bite. At the same time, you can catch quite large crucian carp using a regular fishing rod, and the whole family will enjoy such a vacation. A family vacation is complicated by the fact that you need to take into account the interests of all family members, so upon arrival in a large city it is better to stay in a comfortable hotel and take a break after communicating with nature. In Sayanogorsk, such a place will be a hotel of the same name, where you can book a room in advance by phone and spend several days in a modern and comfortable environment.

Picturesque fishing awaits those who go to Lake Bolshoy Kyzykul, which is located 70 kilometers from Abakan. This reservoir gives a unique fishing experience in the “wild land” and is rightfully considered one of the most important fishing spots in Khakassia. Here you can catch a large pike, and you don’t need to be a professional fisherman, but it’s better to go on such a trip in the company of friends. The lake is located far from large populated areas, and in case of danger you will have to spend some time getting to the nearest city. Fishing in nature is always associated with certain risks for everyone, so we advise you to carefully prepare and listen to the advice given by other travelers.
