Toponymy
- Other names: “Sverdlovsk Sea”, “Chusovodstroy”, “Reservoir” (popular with Pervouralsk and Revda fishermen).
- Origin of the name: the reservoir received its name from Mount Volchikha, located on the northern shore. That, in turn, according to one version, was previously called Wolf, which spoke of the wildness of its surroundings and the abundance of wolves in those parts. According to another version, it had a different name - Volochikha, supposedly - the forest cut down for local factories had to be repeatedly dragged through it. There is also information that not far from this mountain there was a portage along which river vessels were dragged from the Ob-Irtysh basin to the Volga-Kama basin.
Our vacation at the Volchikha Reservoir
Finally, we had the opportunity to fulfill a long-standing desire and explore the Volchikha Reservoir by boat. Conveniently, you can go straight from the train to the Flux station to the water; you don’t have to go anywhere far. The descent along the concrete is somewhat steep, but this does not prevent you from loading the boat and boarding it. The weather that day was favorable for a boat trip - the wind was not strong, although it was headwind, there were no waves, and the sun was shining. True, it was a bit hot, but the water was refreshing. We swam to the nearest island, and I must say that the islands on the reservoir are located along its entire length, we tried to leave the spinning rod, but the fish did not bite, so we continued along the left bank towards the canal that supplies Yekaterinburg with water. There were houses and benches on the shore under the pine trees, and boats near the shore. Vacationers were walking around, there was even a volleyball court. Further around the bend of the cape, several large motor boats were visible.
We sailed past two capes with tourist centers and fishermen's bases, then a not too crowded cape to the canal, then the canal itself with high white trusses of locks or something similar. Then the deserted banks began, since there is no access by car unless you are a canal employee with a pass. But there are practically no parking places there, all bushes and grass. We walked along the entire left bank of the reservoir, a little short of reaching the end, about a kilometer and a half. We had to return and find a parking lot before the storm, which was already approaching.
The last thing we discovered on the left bank was a large base with houses, piers, and boats. The road there led no longer through the canal, but from Lake Polovinnoye. And there was also an island near the shore with houses built on it. And before that, on the right we passed two or three large islands close to the center of the reservoir, on which there were already groups of tourists with boats and boats, so we could not land there - there were too many people. There were also small islands where many seagulls sat, screaming and laughing like crazy. Surely they had chicks there, so we didn’t swim close - you’d still get hit on the head with your beak, as happened once on Sylva.
In the sky in front of us, long lightning flashes were already sparkling with might and main, thunder was thundering, we had to quickly look for a parking lot. So we swam to a small cape ending with a pile of stones and a small clearing where we could pitch a tent. And to the left of the clearing there was a strip of sandy shore, where it was convenient to swim. About a hundred meters away from us stood an almost invisible company in the bushes with a car, a tent and a child - they did not bother us.
Fearing that the thunderstorm would still reach us, we quickly set up a tent, put away our things, turned the boat over - and went to bed. I immediately fell asleep like the dead. And exactly an hour later we woke up cheerful, went out and saw that the thunderstorm had passed by, towards Yekaterinburg, wet only the shore of the Volchikhinsky reservoir, which is near the station, and without dropping a drop on us. The sky had already cleared, the calm evening sun was shining, so it was possible to have dinner and sunbathe. There was no desire to swim because the breeze was blowing cool. We spent a wonderful evening admiring the expanse of water, islands and seagulls.
Wagtails, about eight of them, were running all the time along our headland and the sandy beach nearby, and they weren’t afraid of us at all. And a great grebe swam and dived nearby (it is also called “grebe” because the meat smells strongly of fish and is inedible). This is a bird of the duck family, but it doesn’t look much like a duck. She has a very long neck and a small graceful head, she dives amazingly, swimming underwater very quickly for tens of meters, and catches fish. When the great grebe has small chicks, she carries them on her back.
So we sat, lit a fire, boiled tea for tomorrow, and went to bed. We didn’t fall asleep right away, because our neighbors had guests on motorboats several times. At night, the noise from the railway did not bother us - it was far from it, unlike the last time when we were on Volchikhinsky, so to speak, on foot, and shuddered from the roar of the trains. And in the morning they began to wake up from strong gusts of wind and the roar of waves, just like at sea. Volchikhinskoye is quite large in area, and when there is wind there are waves here. At about eight o'clock in the morning I looked out of the tent and saw that half-meter-long breakers with foamy white crests were moving through the water, and were heavily hitting the stones, so that the splashes reached the tent. We wondered how we would swim back if the waves did not subside.
After breakfast, I got dressed and went into the forest to pick blueberries (yesterday, when I went for firewood, I saw that there were a lot of them there). I wandered around the dry, beautiful forest for about half an hour and filled a plastic bucket. She came back, took another one of the same kind - and back. The forest there is good, although it’s called “Bear Mud,” there are a lot of berries, and mosquitoes didn’t bother me much. Magpies and, it seems, blackbirds were calling in the forest. I walked along the hill to the parking lot that we saw from the water yesterday.
There a man was shooting at cans with an air rifle. I returned with berries, and we decided to do exercises (Sasha was already running barefoot on the sand) and swim, because it was already getting hot. The waves were still big. But while we had breakfast, sunbathed, and swam a couple of times, the lake began to calm down a little. The water was quite warm, but the strong wind did not add comfort to swimming.
We decided to leave three and a half hours before the train, so as not to be in too much of a hurry. After lunch they began to get ready. We sailed along a different route - to the opposite shore of the reservoir and the islands to see what was there. It took about 45 minutes to get to the nearest island, the wind was a little hampered by an almost direct headwind, a little from the side, and waves that slapped the bow of the boat and slowed down the speed. On the island, on the side further from our shore, we found many houses and cottages, piers, gazebos, verandas... A whole village.
On the next island there seemed to be no buildings, and there were few parking lots, but at every convenient place you could see boats or tents, apparently on weekends this body of water is very popular with tourists, this must be taken into account. But the far shore along the large bay looked deserted - bushes grew like a wall there, probably everything was swampy. We now swam not across the reservoir, but along it, towards the Flux station.
It became much more difficult to sail, now the wind was blowing directly towards us, and at times it became stronger so that we not only did not move forward, but even rolled back, so we tried to stay along the coast, where there is less wind. The fishermen from the motor boats looked at us with curiosity and sympathy. The sun was also shining directly towards us, and we understood that our noses would definitely get burned. Sometimes we glanced at our watches while we were on schedule. We passed two more islands - one very large, the second smaller.
Then the opposite shore of the lake appeared, almost opposite the Flux station and in the direction of Revda, where there was a tall building of a recreation center and a semicircular bridge with lanterns. The location was good - a quiet bay, a forest, a large clearing... Now we had to turn and head for a small island opposite Flux. Boat hangars and piers were already visible from afar, and the train passed by like a toy train. This section was the most difficult for us; here the wind was strong, and the waves angrily splashed foam on us. From this place the canal was no longer visible, probably because the reservoir curved slightly to the right.
But finally, we went around the island on the left (there were also parking lots, a tent and a couple of vacationers there), and headed to the same place where we set off. We disembarked, managed to slowly unload our things, wash and dry the boat, pack everything and board the last train. Our wish came true - we walked around almost the entire Volchikha Reservoir, found out where there are convenient parking lots, and where it’s better not to interfere. The reservoir turned out to be very large, and with all sorts of interesting places, but only if you have a boat, because otherwise you can’t get anywhere. And one more thing: since the reservoir is quite popular among fishermen and vacationers, especially on weekends in the summer, the State Inspectorate for Small Boats (GIMS) often carries out inspections there, so take a vest, a first aid kit, and whatever else you need for your watercraft.
How to get to the Volchikha Reservoir
It’s not at all difficult to get from Yekaterinburg.
You need to take the train to Flus station. The journey takes about an hour, direction is to Revda. After leaving the station, it is better to walk a little back and when the houses end, turn onto the path along the shore. Along the way you will see several clearings where you can pitch a tent. At the end, the trail will lead to the Cape Verde recreation center. It will not be possible to go further than the base; the places there are already swampy. You can walk forward from the station along the shore, there will be a bay called “Makaryevskaya Sportivnaya”. But even here you can’t go far, only to the dam. The good thing is that it’s not far from the station, but on weekends there are a lot of people, and there’s heaps of garbage all around.
You can also find a place on the right bank, where Mount Maslova is, and the Karavashka recreation center. But you need to go there by minibus to Degtyarsk, from the Northern Bus Station, and get off near the turn to the base, there is a sign there. Next, walk to the shore and look for a comfortable place to rest.
And one more option. On Flux you negotiate with the boatman, he transports you to the island, or to the far part of the reservoir, and after a while takes you back. Of course, it’s better to sail on your own boat, otherwise he’ll suddenly forget about you...
So everything is fine, but no matter where you stop, at night you will be awakened by the roar of the railway; the sound can be heard across the water even on the opposite bank.

Fishing spots
Throughout the reservoir - both from the shore (in non-wetlands) and from a boat. Particular attention should be paid to the areas of islands and backwaters at the confluence of tributaries.
Fishing Features
We repeatedly fished on the reservoir in winter - in the area of the Revda base. The catches were dominated by perch, small roach and bream. In summer, pike (near reed thickets) and pike perch (at depths) are well caught using spinning rods (from a boat). Bream is successfully caught from the shore and rafts. One of our friends once fished near the Revdinskaya base from the shore with a float rod not far from Flux - he pulled out a carp worth 3.6 kg. Unfortunately, poaching flourishes on the reservoir in summer and winter, with virtually complete inaction of local fisheries inspection. However, fishing on the Volchikha Reservoir is quite good, which is facilitated by the large area of the reservoir and a decent amount of fish.
Recreation centers on the Volchikha Reservoir
There are quite a few recreation centers on the banks of the water reservoir (and even on the islands). Recreation conditions at most of them are ascetic. But the cost of holidays at the bases of the Volchikha Reservoir is affordable. Small 2-bed houses, on average, cost from 1,500 rubles per day, 4-bed houses - from 3,000 rubles. There are hotels with more comfortable accommodation conditions. Accommodation on the islands of the Volchikha Reservoir will cost from 2,000 rubles, depending on the accommodation facility and the number of people. Also, parking in “wild” places is not prohibited—camping at the Volchikha Reservoir is very popular.
One of the most popular bases is located on the northern shore of the Volchikha Reservoir - this is “Cape Verde”. The base has a paid guarded parking lot. There is a fairly popular nudist beach nearby.

Most recreation centers are equipped with areas with barbecue facilities and tables. Some have baths. Convenience, most often, is in outdoor sanitary and hygienic premises. There are several specialized recreation centers for fishermen and hunters.

After a while there will be a turn to the left - into the forest. Next there will be a dirt road that will lead to the shore of the reservoir.
Fishing
Fishing on the reservoir is possible all year round. There is a catch both from the banks (you need to choose non-marsh areas) and from a boat. According to reviews of fishing on the Volchikha Reservoir, the best places are in the area of the islands and in the backwaters - where small rivers and streams flow into the reservoir. Before fishing, you should read reviews about “fishing spots” and a map of the depths of the Volchikha Reservoir.
Fish on the Volchikha Reservoir: perch, ruff, roach, bream, carp, grass carp, ide, silver bream, silver carp, pike perch, pike, burbot.
In winter, the catch is dominated by perch and bream. You can choose a comfortable parking lot near the recreation center or, conversely, a more “wild” place. In summer, fishing on the Volchikha Reservoir is more interesting. From a boat, closer to the shores overgrown with reeds, pike bite well. Pike-perch is caught in deep areas, and bream is caught from the shore. According to reviews, the latter type of fish here is especially large - fishermen often catch fish weighing 3 kg or more. The abundance of fish and the large area of the reservoir provide good fishing, but there is a problem of fish poaching.

Winter fishing on the Volchikha Reservoir
Ivan Evdokimov
As you know, the beginning of winter is the most suitable time for fishing with jigs, so before the start of the jig sports season, we decided to make an exceptional trip and try our chances at catching predators, namely pike, pike perch and perch. Perhaps this was my first trip to the ice in 21 years of fishing practice in the winter without fishing rods, jigs, jigs, raspberries and other gadgets in this direction. Of course, I have experience in fishing with girders, but very little, because there is very little practice.
Before the start of this season, I purchased 20 girders , since my own ones were not so easy to install. The mechanism for joining parts allows you to quickly put the structure into action without wasting precious morning time while it is still dark
So, the trip took place to the beloved Volchikha Reservoir. I have known this drinking pond since early childhood. Therefore, it was decided to go to an area with dense snags, where predatory fish always live. Konstantin and I stayed in one of the creeks, and Artyom decided to go try his luck in catching white fish.
In 1 hour of joint efforts, 20 girders were placed on the ice in the form of several circles, all honestly, 10 pieces per person. I think it’s optimal to place them at a distance of 15-20 meters from each other, and after detecting pockets of bites, rearrange the structures in a checkerboard pattern from less successful areas to more promising ones, since the predator, like any other fish, also sticks to certain places, for example, where there is a fry.
The sun rose, but there were still no bites; doubts crept in, whether the fish had really missed it. And while talking, a little distracted, we contemplate the standing flag, how at this moment the eye is pleased and the legs begin to run... these are the feelings. We run up, but the reel doesn’t spin, checking the live bait that I caught on a fishing rod back in the summer, with the words “well, partner, someone didn’t like the crucian carp, maybe a small vessel chewed it up at dawn and threw it away, but that’s good, because it’s the beginning it’s supposed to.”
And then there were bites after bites, but we couldn’t catch it, a small zander was playing with the fry, knocking down flags and encouraging us, we immediately remembered the hundred-meter races at school and college. But even these empty efforts bring joy, because it’s not about the fish at all, but about the process itself. I haven't felt such feelings for a long time. After 10 o'clock the zander took a break and we had to switch to fishing with spoons and balancers. They went their separate ways and started flashing.
But even here Vodyanoy did not want to encourage us. The time was approaching 11 o’clock and a bite happened, closer to Kostya, and what do you think? — Yes, he ran faster than Usain Bolt (nine-time Olympic champion and 11-time world champion, specializing in short-distance running). Then I started, and as I ran up, the first pike appeared on the ice, about a kilogram in size. “Now the beginning has definitely been made,” Kostya said with joyful emotions on his face, holding the squirming toothy one in his hands.
A little later, after about 20 minutes, I managed to catch one and a half kilograms of the first friend with teeth in 3 rows.
And then there was a lull, but there was no time to be bored; with Rapala balance beams it was possible to catch stripes quite well.
They also ran to Artyom and helped drill the hole, oh, these athletes, my grandfather said upon arriving home, the fact is that the diameter of the holes was 100 mm. I had to tinker for about 10 minutes, fortunately the ice was not thick. The one-kilogram bream was safely removed. In addition, Artem caught about three dozen plywood, with an average weight of about three hundred grams.
Towards evening, we also caught one pike and three zander, 300 grams each, which safely went back to their native element to grow up.
Well, the results of the trip were the acquisition of a huge charge of positive emotions received from communicating with like-minded people, nature and from this method of fishing. And then we will have official sporting events, which will also be covered. See you soon, friends!
Berezovskoye Lake
Author – Kuznetsov Artem
Location
Lake opposite the village of Shumilovo, Bogorodsky district, Nizhny Novgorod region.
Directions
We leave Nizhny Novgorod towards the city of Bogorodsk. We pass the Shumilov military unit, and after 1.5 kilometers there will be a right turn. We turn and drive straight along the asphalt road to the parking lot, park, leave the car (since the rest of the road is open only to residents of the cottage community), take everything you need and go to the reservoir. The walk to the lake is literally 500 meters.
Characteristics of the water area
The lake is quite large, there is a forest all around, there is a sandy beach, so on weekends fishing will be relevant only in the morning.
Depths range from 1.5 to 6 meters; you can fish both from the shore and from a boat. The right bank is heavily overgrown, and there are almost no approaches to it; on the left bank, there is first a sandy beach, and then a birch forest. This is where you can find good places for fishing from the shore.
Previously, there was a lot of poaching on the lake, but now, fortunately, this problem does not exist. The lake is being reborn again.
Fish
Lots of crucian carp, pike, roach, tench.
Tackle
In open water: float rod, spinning rod, feeder, elastic band.
Worms, dough and maggots work well for crucian carp. Bloodworms also work well at the beginning of the open water season.
The fish were caught with spinning rods using spinners and jig baits. Small squirrels, up to a kilogram in weight, pecked.
