4. Easy to process.
Where to get? If you live in the capital or another large metropolis, then it’s easier for you - you can buy a blank for a spinning rod handle, or a ready-made handle right away.
Well, if you’re unlucky with your place of residence, then your choice is:
1. Chinese thermoses (if they are cork, lately they are made of rubber).
2. Chemical dishes (also made of rubber)
3. Wine bottles or corks from them (the simplest solution).
For mormyshing with a nozzle
If fishing with a jig will be carried out using a nozzle, you need to make a more massive rod. Use foam, wood or cork to make the handle.
It is necessary to give the product the appearance of a staple, often called a “filly” by fishermen. You need to make a groove in the workpiece in which the fishing line is wound.
Here is my method for making a spinning rod handle from wine bottle corks.
1. First, let's collect these unfortunate corks from wine bottles (we ask friends, acquaintances, we try to get them ourselves, but I don’t recommend it - it takes too long and the wife swears). (Fig. 1A).
2. The side of all the plugs you have obtained with such difficulty is cut off as in Figure 1B. The main thing is that the cut plane is in the form of a rectangle and the aspect ratio is 2:1.
3. Take 2 pieces of cut corks, coat the cut surfaces with epoxy and glue them together as in Figure 1C, D.
4. After our plugs are glued together, we cut off the lower and upper planes with a knife as in Figure 1D. We process the resulting product with coarse sandpaper. The cut planes must be parallel. How to check parallelism: remember school and your favorite teacher.
5. As a result of our mysterious magical actions, a certain semblance of a blank was born, as in Figure 2A,B.
6. Next, take a rod blank and measure the diameter of the butt part.
7. Take a drill with an outer diameter slightly smaller than the diameter of the butt of the fishing rod. As a homemade drill, you can take a metal tube (sharpened on the edges for a cutting surface), you can take away the pen cap from your son (so as not to chew on it in class), you can also remove a piece of the telescopic antenna from the radio (it’s better to listen 20 times as Lekha and I fished for a 50 kg carp and didn’t pull it out). With this same drill we drill our parts - blanks right in the center as in Figure 2B.
Ugh. At this point, I consider the preparation for making a spinning rod handle complete.
8. We put our parts on the fishing rod blank sequentially. Moreover, we rotate each subsequent part 45 degrees from the previous one, for better gluing. We will coat the places where the parts come into contact with epoxy.
9. The required length has been dialed. Next, we put on an epoxy reel seat and, not paying attention to my wife’s screams that the whole kitchen stank, we continue to assemble the second section from the cork.
10. While the epoxy resin has not hardened, press the parts together, again for better gluing.
11. Until the epoxy hardens, we do nothing. We smoke.
The simplest homemade spinning rod
How to make a spinning rod at home with minimal costs for components and materials? It's easy using inexpensive components and basic fishing tackle making skills. The algorithm for how to make a spinning rod yourself looks like this:
- We purchase an inexpensive used fishing rod at various fishing flea markets. You can rummage through your old gear or ask a friend to give away an unnecessary spinning rod with broken rings, a handle, a reel mount, or other defects that make it impossible to use.
- We remove the old “stick” elements, leaving a bare form. It is important to immediately determine where the seam goes. Looking at the form from the end, we find a noticeable thickening. This is the seam. In the future, when assembling the fishing rod, the rings and reel seat must be placed strictly opposite it.
- What to make a spinning rod from, where to get the material for the handle? The cheapest way is to take old champagne corks. You can carefully remove the handle from another broken fishing rod or purchase a special set of cork washers from a specialty store.
- We put the cork material on the bottom of the form and fix it with two-component glue. Let the composition dry and harden for a day.
- Install the reel seat. What can you make a spinning rod from, what reel mount should you choose? It is better to take an inexpensive stainless steel screw holder. It will be cheap, will last a long time, and secures the reel tightly.
- All that remains is to install the access rings. Let's start with the tulip. Then we put on the next largest ring. Their alignment must not be disturbed. We attach the rings in order, ending the process with those closest to the coil.
- We wrap the rings using a thread bandage and fix them with epoxy glue. After drying, coat with colorless varnish.

4. Hold the handle in your hands, try how it fits in your hand - comfort is very important when fishing.
There is no need to buy what is cheaper.
