Do-it-yourself tackle for catching silver carp video

Today, fishing stores offer a wide range of equipment for catching silver carp, which makes it difficult for even the most experienced fisherman to choose, not to mention beginners.

The number of fishing enthusiasts for this fish is increasing every day. When choosing gear, you must first pay attention to its reliability, because the silver carp bite is incredibly strong.

Both bottom and float gear have proven themselves to be excellent in catching silver carp.

Bottom tackle

The structure of the jaw prevents the silver carp from feeding from the bottom; as is known, its lower part protrudes forward. However, even with this, there was one suitable bottom fishing method.

It is recommended to choose one of the most powerful tackles, since the weight of the fish can exceed 36 kilograms. When fishing for such a giant, only reliable tackle, preferably carp tackle, can handle it.

The main element of the equipment is the spring.

To bring the bottom tackle into working condition it is necessary:

  1. Having made the bait of a viscous consistency, fill the spring with it.
  2. We put foam balls on the hook, choosing a size so that both the hook and the leash become buoyant. When the rig is at the bottom, the balls will lift the hooks up the spring to the full length of the leash. There should be two leashes with a length of no more than 7 cm.
  3. We throw the tackle into the pond, not forgetting to install an alarm.

It turns out that our bait lies on the bottom, and the hooks are 7 centimeters higher, and a silver carp that approaches the bait will grab what is above the bottom.

Bottom fishing tactics

Let's move on to question number 1 - how to fish from the bottom? Fortunately, there is nothing complicated about this. We prepared the equipment, cast it, and put the fishing rod on the stand. Now we are waiting for a bite. If we fish with a float, we use it as our guide. In other cases - by the tip of the rod, or by the signaling device used.

The dissolution of technoplankton in water is not the fastest process. On average, this can take from one and a half to two hours. What happens next? A fish that has discovered a whole cloud of technoplankton begins to actively draw in its particles. Along with them, your hooks also get into her mouth. All you need is to strike in time.

What to do if the soaking occurs much slower than necessary, and, consequently, clouds do not form around? The solution is simple. You need to place the hooks of the side leashes closer to the technoplankton, and lower the middle one by seven centimeters. We attach the hooks themselves to the technoplankton before casting. Gradually the barrel will get wet and they will be released naturally.

Note to the fisherman! When fishing for silver carp, haste is your worst enemy. Especially at the last stage - fishing. Your task is to make the fish get tired. This is best done in open, clean areas. When your prey gets tired, you can bring it closer to the shore. It happens that the dimensions do not allow the use of a landing net. Therefore, it won’t hurt to take a small hook with you.

Float tackle

There are two types of float gear:

  1. with float
  2. with a sliding sinker.

The structure of the tackle for silver carp is practically no different from conventional tackle. There is only one feature - you will need a special, or best of all, transparent float so as not to scare away the fish.

Floats come in handy in 2 types:

  1. normal, slightly weighted to be able to lie on the water, with a barely noticeable antenna,
  2. spindle-shaped, oblong, weighted with pellets located below.

Quite often, a strong current can spoil the bite, blowing gear away from the feeding area. Experienced fishermen shared advice on how to counter this.

A sinker weighing from 30 to 90 grams should be attached to the main line between the float and the rod.

You can also use sliding floats to solve the problem.

It is not recommended to choose short leashes for float tackle.

To reduce the percentage of silver carp falling off the hook, you should place the hook on the leash below the technoplankton level.

This will also reduce the number of false bites. For reservoirs with weak currents, blind sinkers with floats capable of holding a weight of more than 50 grams are suitable.

A sliding float is much more effective than a sinker in holding gear in place. The main line in this case is attached to the sinker, passing through the float. The sinker itself lies at the bottom when fishing.

After casting the tackle, the line and sinker reach the bottom, but the tackle remains afloat. A silver carp caught on a hook in most cases cannot break free.

Of course, the store's assortment of tackle contains excellent options to choose from, but what purchased tackle can compare with the one you made yourself?

The fisherman will make the best tackle for himself, putting quality and soul into it at the same time.

How to catch silver carp using the “silver carp killer”?

Easy to use, this is the “silver carp killer” float tackle. It consists of a float and a universal trempel.

To keep them at a short distance from each other (30-40 cm), a strong fishing line or thread is used, which is tied to their fastening rings.

Both technoplankton and porridge can be used as complementary food (a spring is put on). As a rule, foam plastic is attached to two hooks of the tackle (2-3 balls for each).

There are no special requirements for a fishing rod for casting tackle, the main thing is sufficient length and a high test indicator. Once assembled, the tackle is easily attached to the main line using a retractable leash with a carabiner.

The casting occurs at the expected location of the fish. Preliminary feeding of the place, as for bottom tackle, is unnecessary.

It is necessary to attach technoplankton or “hammer” the spring with porridge, place foam balls on the hooks and cast the tackle.

A massive float holds the bait in the upper layer of water.

One nuance of this gear is its buoyancy.

When fishing on large waves, it quickly changes its location, which forces the fisherman to re-cast it often.

Thanks to the large float, the bite can be seen from a long distance. Considering the serious size of silver carp, fishing is carried out slowly.

Making equipment with a spring feeder

Making a spring feeder is not difficult at all. How does the feeder work? Before throwing, we compress the spring that is inside, fixing it with small pieces of bread, pushing them through the holes.

Having thrown the feeder into the pond, wait a couple of minutes until the bread gets wet and the spring releases all the filler in the feeder. If there is no bread nearby, you can add something else to the feeder that soaks well in water.

To make a spring feeder you should prepare:

  • drill
  • matches
  • gel pen refill
  • molten lead
  • double cone spring
  • case with a metal lid (suitable for photographic film).

We do everything according to the scheme:

  1. We select a spring for the donks, without a weight inside. The rod from the handle will act as the spring rod, so we check that everything is placed successfully.
  2. We place a spring in the metal lid of the case exactly in the center and fill it with molten lead with a thickness of at least 7 mm.
  3. After hardening, remove the piston from the plug and, if necessary, clean the edges with sandpaper to ensure free movement inside the case from the film.
  4. Drill a hole in the center of the piston with the same diameter as the rod.
  5. We begin assembling the feeder.
  6. Insert the core of the helium pen into the drilled hole.
  7. We heat the hole on the piston side over a fire until the rod melts.
  8. Next, we press the well-melted rod against any metal surface, so it will fill all the free space of the hole.
  9. Carefully clear the hole in the rod to allow the fishing line to pass through.
  10. Drill a hole for the rod in the center of the bottom of the case.
  11. Having melted the edge of the rod that comes out from the bottom over the fire, and slightly expanding it, insert the piston inside.
  12. We check that the rod extends 6–8 mm from the opposite side when the piston is at the same level with the end of the case.
  13. The spring should be inserted and pressed down lightly, then drill 2 holes parallel to each other with a diameter of 7 mm.
  14. That's all! The feeder is ready. With a little effort and your own time, you can do everything yourself.

Now you need to assemble the equipment:

  1. We will need a piece of fishing line 70 cm long. We attach a swivel on one side, then add a bead and a silicone stopper, again a bead, a swivel with a carabiner, a bead and a stopper.
  2. Make a skeleton with a diameter of 2 mm from a bicycle spoke .
  3. We put on the feeder, having first removed the spoke nut.
  4. We tie a swivel with a carabiner to the stick.
  5. Leashes along with hooks should be tied to the shoulders of the skeleton.
  6. Attach the float.
  7. Now the equipment is ready for use!

Recipes for bait in a spring feeder for silver carp

There are a lot of bait recipes and every experienced fisherman has his own secrets.

The most successful baits for catching silver carp:

From pea porridge

You need to purchase 2 loaves of white bread and 1 kilogram of peas:

  1. Boil the peas for 40-50 minutes.
  2. The bait is mixed in a pond, so we take porridge and 2 loaves of bread with us in a convenient container.
  3. Having arrived at the fishing site, we select the bread crumb and add it to the pea porridge.
  4. It is recommended to mix until you get a consistency similar to elastic plasticine.
  5. IMPORTANT! There should be no white spots left in the bait from the bread crumb.

Fishermen have long noticed that this is the most catchable bait.

However, there is another recipe popular among fishermen:

  • Flour required - 1 kg
  • Bran – 0.5 kg
  • Starch – approximately 50 g
  • Powdered milk – 1 kg
  • Vanilla sugar – 5 g
  • Sand - as needed.

Preparation:

  1. Pour starch, flour, milk powder, vanilla sugar into a convenient container and add water and sand and mix thoroughly.
  2. Add bran, a little more water, mix and leave to infuse for 25 minutes.
  3. We adjust the consistency depending on the flow of the reservoir. If there is no current, the bait should be loose.

Homemade products for catching silver carp

To catch silver carp, a skeleton is used; these can often be found in fishing stores, but due to the fact that they are made of plastic, they are not used among fishermen.

After all, you can’t go fishing for such serious fish with insufficiently reliable equipment. And the fishermen figured out how to make a skeleton with their own hands.

In this case you will need:

  • pliers
  • wire
  • prepared installation.

A prepared installation is necessary for winding the wire.

To make the installation you need:

  1. Drive three seventieth nails into the board approximately 2 cm. In this case, two nails should be on the same line at a distance of 5 cm, and the third between them at a distance of 3 cm from their line.
  2. We bite off the heads of the nails so that it is possible to remove the skeleton from them.
  3. We wind the wire around the nails once. At the end we make bends in the shape of a rectangle, while lowering it down by 10 cm. We cut off one of the ends, and make a loop on the second.
  4. Having heated the heat-shrinkable tube, we compress the wire with it and at the end we get a ready-made, very durable skeleton that will not let you down at a crucial moment and will last for a long time.

other methods

Silver carp can be caught in other non-specialized ways. It is worth noting that they are not so effective because they do not take into account the specific behavior and nutrition of this underwater giant. You can fish with them at the initial stage of mastering this fish, until the correct gear is acquired.

Beginner fishermen often use feeder fishing for silver carp. In closed reservoirs you can use method feeders with a flat bottom, and in the current - classic feeders.

You can also use float gear without using the “silver carp killer” and technoplankton. The main thing is to choose the right fishing horizon and bait.

DIY bottom tackle for silver carp

It is known that the weight of silver carp can exceed 35 kg, so the first and main requirement for all parts of the fishing rod is strength and reliability.

We complete the tackle:

  1. We select a carp rod with a length of at least 3.3 meters. We check that the test allows you to work with heavy equipment.
  2. We purchase a reel that matches the rod with a friction brake and a baitrunner. A spool of size 4000 is perfect. 150 m of monofilament line with a thickness of at least 0.3 mm will be wound onto it. This fishing line will perfectly reduce the jerking power of such large fish as silver carp.
  3. Hooks fit number 8.
  4. Elastic braiding is selected for making leashes.
  5. Depending on the depth of the reservoir and the desired casting distance, the tackle is equipped with a sliding sinker of at least 30 grams, the maximum weight can reach up to 100 grams.
  6. You will also need a float.

The design of the tackle for silver carp is quite simple:

  1. The recommended length of the first leash is at least 15 cm. It is tied to a swivel behind the outlet.
  2. The length of the second leash should be twice as long. It is attached to the fishing line 5 centimeters above the outlet edge.
  3. The third leash should correspond to the size of the first and is fixed 25 cm above the upper outlet edge.
  4. Silver carp now have the opportunity to take bait from any leash, however, experienced fishermen have revealed the secret that large specimens are caught exclusively on the first, although bites occur more often on the second and third, but it has been noticed that the fish there are much smaller in size.
  5. You should only choose especially sharp and powerful hooks.
  6. Popular baits for silver carp are green peas, young cattail pulp, and the fish especially liked Hungarian corn with the aroma of vodka, oddly enough!

The nuances of catching silver carp

As you know, silver carp, or silver carp, is an artificially bred fish, and water bodies overgrown with grass, rural bets and ponds have been actively stocked with it. The benefits of silver carp in terms of cleaning water bodies can hardly be overestimated, so now it is found almost everywhere.

Even if the fish was not deliberately put into stock, its eggs are carried by birds, and during high water, large specimens also migrate. Due to the fact that silver carp feeds on plankton, for a long time it was not possible to create equipment capable of purposefully catching this fish.

There are situations when silver carp are caught using carp gear and, especially, gear for white carp, but of course, it cannot be said that they are always successful when catching “silver carp”. The fact is that, unlike carp, which mainly feeds in the bottom layer, silver carp moves in the water column and searches for food at all depths.

Aquatic vegetation is found at different depths, but it has been noticed that silver carp prefers to feed from the surface. This means that the tackle for catching silver carp must float near the surface of the water, and this is possible when using a float. When developing methods for catching silver carp, the most difficult thing was to choose bait that could attract trophy fish.

Even carp are caught on young shoots of reeds, but using such baits on silver carp is useless, and this is due to the way it feeds. Unlike carp or grass carp, which suck up food, silver carp swims with an open mouth and filters large volumes of water, along with which nutrients enter its mouth.

Therefore, the bait for silver carp should be attractive and lure the fish, and the hook should be placed in such a way as to quietly enter the fish’s mouth and catch it in the soft tissue.

It is important to understand that silver carp has a hard lip and to prevent slips and false serifs, very sharp and strong hooks with a wide bend are used. But the main thing is still bait, and only with the invention of technoplankton did it become possible to purposefully catch trophy silver carp.

Two in one: bait and bait for silver carp

Of course, when catching silver carp, not a single fisherman can do without pressed technoplankton. Specialized stores are filled with similar products offering technoplankton with a wide range of flavors.

The most attractive aromas for silver carp:

  • Vanilla
  • Original
  • Bloodworm
  • Honey
  • Anise
  • Raspberries
  • Strawberries
  • Blood.

Technoplankton contributes to the slow soaking of food. Forming a unique fragrant train of complementary foods.

The fish, sensing an attractive smell, approaches and, feeding on pieces of plankton, swallows the hooks located in the turbidity.

Therefore, technoplankton serves as both food and bait.

On a well-studied reservoir, you can make similar baits yourself. In most cases, they are to the taste of such large fish.
