An unusual phenomenon was discovered near Bryansk on Holy Lake, which excited the local population.
There is no limit to surprise!
Lake Svyatoe, also called due to its round shape, is located near the Russian city of Bryansk between the Trosna crossing and the Rzhanitsa railway station. The depth of the reservoir reaches eighteen meters, and the diameter of its surface is about three hundred meters. Recently, entrepreneur Vladimir Chesalin from Zhukovka managed to observe an amazing anomaly on the lake, which the man did not fail to film on his mobile phone camera.
On the smooth and calm surface of the reservoir, stripes suddenly appeared and began to move across the lake. It seemed as if the water was foaming or even glowing from somewhere inside.
According to Vladimir, there was no trace of wind that day. A mysterious strip of ripples moved from the far shore (from the observer’s perspective) to the near one, gradually dissipating. An eyewitness suggested that the phenomenon was caused by underground sources, which for some unknown reason changed their direction. However, Chesalin could not give an exact explanation of what was happening.
“The whole lake has a smooth surface, but for some reason this spot is different. There, the water seems to boil, change shape, and move,” says the businessman, puzzled by what he saw.
Despite the fact that Vladimir tried to find a logical explanation for what happened, he can hardly be called a materialist. The man claims that the Holy Lake is an anomalous place. For example, this summer a group of tourists observed a high column of water here, which rose above the surface of the lake and lasted for about a minute, then disappeared without a trace. Unfortunately, no one had time to film this moment at that time.
According to the entrepreneur, the church that stood on the lake many years ago is to blame. By the way, she gave the reservoir the name most often used among the people. Numerous legends are associated with this church here.
One of the local fishermen, commenting on the video, said that nothing unusual was captured on it. An avid fisherman is sure that these are ordinary ripples caused by temperature changes. “This phenomenon is very often observed on water in the fall, when the air temperature is lower than the water,” he said, although he refused to comment on the water column. Vladimir himself is absolutely sure that he saw a mysterious glow under water.
Some ufologists, he laughs, would probably suggest that the lake is the base of some kind of interplanetary alien spacecraft.

Witch forest
You may have already heard about such a place somewhere, but it is unlikely that anyone has been there. The most interesting thing is that it is impossible to get here by any bus, but with the help of railways it is quite possible. It is about this forest that there are quite dark legends.
According to this legend, in the forest there are pine trees twisted to death, and besides, it is here that tourists who travel by car simply stall. In fact, no one even knows why this particular type of tree grows in this forest and why they are twisted.
Bottomless Holy Lake
You can hear a variety of stories about this lake. If you want to visit this mysterious place, you can only get there by car. You will lose nothing if you decide to go there. Many people believe that one should pray to this place, because they believe that the water in the lake has healing properties.
Thunder Well
It is considered the highest point in the entire Bryansk region. There is a legend. It consists in the fact that a lightning strike hit the tree near which the tourists stopped to rest. As a result, the tree disappeared, and in this very place a so-called thunder well appeared.
A little later it was consecrated and people began to come to drink some water and receive healing. The local population sincerely believes that if you drink this water, you can regain your health.
Artificial lakes of the Bryansk region
In the Dyatkovo and Bryansk regions there are many artificial lakes created by man at industrial enterprises. Some of them occupy a significant area. For example, Bytoshsky Pond covers an area of 200 hectares. There are similar ponds in Bialye Beregi and Raditz. There are over a thousand ponds on former collective and state farms in the Bryansk region.

Rope factory of merchant Martynov
This building in itself is not attractive in any way. It is located in the very center of Bryansk. People usually don't pay attention to it, but it is actually the most stunning architectural building. This factory was built in the Russian style and belonged entirely to the merchant Martynov.
There may even be people who think this building should be completely demolished, but this is not so. Simple restoration and that's it.

HOLY LAKE: FROM ZHUKOVKA - FIVE TIMES TO THE RIGHT
Zhukovka, a small town at the confluence of the Desna and Vetma, is often called blue-eyed. This is no accident. In its vicinity there are many water bodies, unique in their beauty and natural features. Today we will make a route to one of these natural areas - Lake Saint.
When entering Zhukovka by car from Letoshnikov, turn right and right again and you will find yourself on the road leading to Rzhanitsa. The route has recently been completely renovated - quickly rush ten minutes before the junction, then right and right again: a dirt road will lead into the depths of the forest until the railway crossing. And again to the right into the forest thicket. A silvery surface will begin to appear between the branches. It is possible to drive almost to the very shore. Near the shore there are swinging old bridges that add color. The water of the lake is clean and transparent, inviting you to plunge into the blue coolness. However, entering it is not so easy: the shore is steep, and the coastal bottom is not strong, as it is covered with perennial foliage of coastal trees. That's what the bridges are for - make your way across them and forward, not forgetting, however, to be careful.
There is a legend associated with the lake, which supposedly explains its name. It says that on the site of the water surface there was a temple, but it went under the water when there was a danger of being desecrated by the enemies of the Russian land. Some lovers of mystical phenomena claim that if you look into the water during the full moon, you can see the gilded domes above the snow-white bell tower until now. Let's leave this statement to the conscience of lovers of the full moon and say that the lake is indeed characterized by unusual phenomena. For example, in completely calm weather, an even strip of water ripples appears on the surface. After walking a few tens of meters, it melts without a trace. But there is a completely material explanation for this phenomenon. By origin, the Holy Lake is a huge chalk funnel filled with water. The measured depth is 18 meters. It’s hard to say how much actually. Ten kilometers from St., in the Rzhanitsky impassables, there is another karst lake - Bottomless. It is assumed that the lakes are connected by underground watercourses and are nothing more than giant communicating vessels. It is the movement of water between two bodies of water that causes the mysterious ripples. However, it is much more interesting to believe in the legend of the Holy Lake, especially when you see white water lilies swaying on the mystical waves or walk along the shore knee-deep in lilies of the valley.
It is interesting to visit the Saint at any time of the year. If you are looking for additional entertainment, welcome to the large bard festival, held at the end of August two kilometers from the lake on the shore of the picturesque Desnyanskaya oxbow. By the way, nearby is the floodplain lake Bechino - the largest in the Bryansk region in terms of mirror area. And from Bechin, having forded the Desna, you can go out to the ancient Vshchizh, and from there it’s just a stone’s throw to Ovstug... There is something to see in the Zhukovsky district. There is also where to stay if the tent is leaky. In the immediate vicinity of the regional center above the Desna there is a sanatorium and a medical center with a boarding house, and behind them a whole chain of comfortable recreation centers.
Paid fishing spots in the Bryansk region
Paid fishing is widespread throughout Russia, however, in the Bryansk region this service is especially well developed. There are many paid reservoirs in the region. The population size in them is maintained artificially.
This benefited the local ecosystem. Thanks to the massive introduction of paid fishing, it was possible to save water resources, as well as provide vacationers with convenience and the opportunity for an excellent catch.
Grass carp and silver carp have begun to be actively bred in ponds in the Bryansk region. This helps fight the overgrowth of reservoirs (these species are natural land reclamation agents), and also provides excitement for fishing. Individual grass carp, by the way, weigh tens of kilograms and grow up to a meter in length.
Popular paid fishing destinations and approximate prices:
- Kukuevka village (150 rubles per person + additional services).
- Soldiers' Lake (300 rubles morning before lunch, 200 rubles after lunch).
- Lake Ledenyovo (300 rubles for the whole day).
- Kryzhino village (350 rubles for half a day).
- The outskirts of Bryansk (from 500 rubles, depending on the size of the catch).
Kukuevka village
In the Navlinsky district, 35 km from the city of Navlya, there is the village of Kukuevka. Near it we find a recreation center of the same name. Despite its modest size, it offers a wide range of services. You can rent fishing equipment, water transport, including boats and boats. For a long-term vacation, it is best to book a separate house.
Carps form the backbone of the local fauna .
Without artificial stocking, most of the catch here would be crucian carp - a fish that is not particularly valuable. In any case, this is the opinion of the majority of enthusiasts. The management of the base is making a lot of efforts to increase the populations of carp and burbot. The above-mentioned grass carp is also bred here. Experienced fishermen will catch pike, pike perch and the legendary ide. For beginners, there are unpretentious, voracious fish in the reservoir: bream, perch and rudd.
You can fish at the Kukuevka base all year round. The price is affordable - 150 rubles per person, plus 100 rubles from ordinary vacationers. Night fishing is at a double rate. And also the cost may rise if you use gazebos and other cozy elements.
You can smoke the caught fish right on the spot; it will cost 50 rubles apiece. A hotel room will cost you 700 rubles. Living conditions are acceptable for active fishermen, but not comfortable enough for a family holiday.
Zhukovsky district
Located in the north-west of the Bryansk region, the Zhukovsky district abounds in paid lakes rich in fish. With the same level of service and assortment of fish found in these farms, prices vary and largely depend on the greed of the owners or management.
Soldatskoye Lake is located 9 km from Zhukovka towards the village of Trosny. Crucians and carps make up the vast majority of the fauna of this lake. The carp population is small, so catching them will require patience. There are many competitors on the reservoir, so finding free space will be an extraordinary task.
Additional services include the provision of a boat and a Russian bath . Prices vary. Morning time is the most expensive, it will cost you 300 rubles. Afternoon fishing is cheaper - 200 rubles.
Lake Ledenyovo is located 16 km south of Zhukovka. The list of fish caught does not differ from Soldatskoye Lake, but the cost of fishing is less - 300 rubles for the whole day. Considering the average prices in the region, this is inexpensive.
Carp here is more active, as a result of which it is often caught by locals. Experienced fishermen should try to catch silver carp or grass carp. For lovers of dynamic pike hunting, there is also something to do here.
The village of Kryzhino is located 22 km southwest of Zhukovka, just seven kilometers from the Smolensk highway. Local prices are higher than other farms; half a day will cost you 350 rubles. In addition to the classics of paid reservoirs: carp and crucian carp, there are also roach and grass carp. The presence of roach attracts a large number of fishing enthusiasts, so places should be taken early in the morning. In the heat, the bites completely subside, so during the day in clear weather the fishing process turns into a meaningless exercise.
Clubs "Partizan" and "Zhuravka"
In the vicinity of Bryansk there are many reservoirs worthy of fishing and recreation. As a rule, local clubs provide high quality services, but they are also the most expensive in the segment.
The Partizan forest club is located 13 km east of Bryansk near the village of Beloberezhsky sanatorium. The reservoir is tiny, but its inhabitants belong to the elite class. Here you can catch exotic species of fish: trout and sturgeon. Since the reservoir does not freeze in winter, fishing is available all year round.
The banks of the reservoir are equipped with convenient piers . Tackle, groundbait, bait and space rental are already included in the price tag. However, there is a catch limit. A standard of two kilos of sturgeon and one and a half kilos of trout will cost you 1,500 rubles. If you exceed the norm, you will pay even more. The catch can be smoked on site. Additional services include a Finnish sauna, a restaurant and a comfortable hotel.
Country recreation club "Zhuravka" is located in the Navlinsky district, 45 km south of Bryansk. In a compact pond of 300 by 50 meters, carp and crucian carp are found in fair quantities. The cost of fishing is low - 500 rubles for 6 hours. Catch up to 3 kilos is not subject to rent. For large volumes, you will have to pay an additional fee of 150 rubles per kilogram.
The main emphasis in Zhuravka is on comfort. On the shore there are numerous gazebos, a motel and a cafe. The bites are stable, it’s difficult to leave here without a catch.

Holy Lake Bryansk region Zhukovsky district
Karst lakes are a common phenomenon in the Bryansk region. And all because of the peculiarities of the local soil. Groundwater washes away the rock, resulting in a sinkhole. It fills with water and a new lake is formed.
I know of four karst lakes in the Bryansk region:
- Holy Lake Zhukovsky district (railway station 176 km);
- Bottomless lake Zhukovsky district, Staroe Lavshino village;
- Round Lake Bryansk district of Fokino (site of the Vinogradov partisan detachment); Holy Lake Dyatkovo district near the village of Domashovo.
Karst lakes of the Bryansk region
In almost all regions of the Bryansk region there are karst lakes of various depths (sometimes quite large), round or oval in shape.
Their origin is associated with the hidden activity of deep underground waters. They form where chalk or marl lies at or close to the surface, which is washed away by water. Karst lakes form in these washed out depressions. An example is the beautiful forest lake “Svyatoe”, located between the Rzhanitsa railway station and the Trosna crossing. Near the city of Trubchevsk there is lake “Solka”, known from the stories of I. S. Turgenev in “Notes of a Hunter”.
Legends of the lake
Due to their origin, karst lakes are shrouded in legends. The fact is that they are formed as a result of the leaching of soft rocks such as limestone, chalk and others from the soil by groundwater. As a result, the ground collapses, forming a funnel that fills with water. The depth of such a funnel can reach 20-30 meters. It turns out that there was a forest, and then one day, the earth, along with the trees and everything that was on the surface, fell down tens of meters. Hence the legends. Everyone has probably heard the story about a church that fell underground together with people, and in its place a lake formed. So, no one remembers exactly which of the four lakes we are talking about. There are also stories about monsters that live in these lakes, about aliens, etc. On the karst lakes of the Bryansk region, some tourists manage to observe unusual ripples on the surface of the water. Sometimes stripes move across the surface of the lake. Someone claims to have seen a column of water gushing out of the lake.
Choosing a place to stay
You can stop on the shore, which is located in close proximity to the railway station, or you can drive to the opposite side through the forest. The road to Holy Lake is unpaved, but quite passable for a car. We also wanted to get to Lake Bechino. It is located between the Holy Lake and the Desna River. Even the navigator showed us the way to it, but in fact we did not find the road. Maybe it was there before, but then in the forest we came across a fire ditch.
The opposite bank is equipped with tables and benches in several places (we counted 3). We arrived at the lake in the evening, and everything there was busy with vacationers. Then we returned to the station and approached the lake from the railway. There were no people there.
The Holy Lake in the Zhukovsky district is round in shape. Its area is 16 hectares and its depth is approximately 16-18 meters. No one knows the exact depth due to the fact that there is a thick layer of silt at the bottom. The water in the lake is clear. On the shore where we stopped there was a small pier. It was nice to sit on it and look at the lake. The air there is amazing, forest. They say that it contains a lot of phytoncides and is good for health.

How to get to the Holy Lake
One summer evening in August we decided to go for a picnic to Holy Lake, in the Zhukovsky district. We haven't been there before. The lake can be reached by car or by train. From the station, 176 km, the walk is only 300 meters. We went by car. To get to the lake, you need to make a circle through Zhukovka, there is no other way. From Bryansk to the Holy Lake 82 km. We drove a little over an hour. You can drive up to the lake by car without any problems. You can take the Bryansk-Zhukovka train to the station 176 km. Just know that this is a demand stop. This means that after stopping at Rzhanitsa, you need to contact the driver by pressing a special button and ask to make a stop at the station 176 km.
