Trupyanka, Yauzskoye Reservoir

Fishing is one of the most common activities for men, and not only, where you can not only go fishing, but also actively relax on the weekend. With the onset of summer, when real warmth comes, many take vacations and go to nearby reservoirs to relax, and at the same time catch fish, and then cook delicious fish soup from freshly caught fish. It is difficult to find a region in which there would not be a suitable reservoir for this. As a rule, each region has a sufficient number of both large and small rivers, lakes, ponds or reservoirs, where a fairly diverse fish is found. Although the Yauza Reservoir is not huge in size compared to other well-known artificial reservoirs, the fishing here is no worse.

What kind of fish are there?

The Yauzskoye Reservoir is located in the Moscow region; here you can catch many species of fish of completely different sizes.

Basically, avid fishing enthusiasts catch:

How to catch more fish?

I have been active fishing for quite some time and have found many ways to improve the bite. But the most effective was and remains the BITE ACTIVATOR. It attracts fish in cold and warm water with the help of pheromones included in the composition and stimulates their appetite. Suitable for both summer and winter fishing.

MORE ABOUT THE ACTIVATOR HERE. PRESS!

  • Roach. Most often it is found at the depth of the reservoir, and quite large specimens are often found.
  • Bleak.
  • Pike perch is considered the most unpretentious species in this body of water; it can be caught with almost any bait.
  • Perch - found more rarely, mainly under snags.
  • Guster.
  • Rudd.
  • Pike – characterized by activity in this area.
  • Scavenger - often you come across a scavenger weighing more than two kilograms.

Important: each type of aquatic life requires certain gear and bait.

What kind of fish are caught?

The Yauz Reservoir was formed to create fresh water reserves to supply the city of Moscow and settlements in the Moscow region and Smolensk region.

The hydraulic structure was put into operation in 1977 and includes the Yauza River with its tributaries Loknya, Titovka, Trupni and a dam near the village of Karmanovo. The Yauzsky reservoir forms a single system together with the Vazusky and Verkhneruzsky reservoirs.

Additionally, to fill the Yauzsky reservoir, water is supplied from the Vazuzsky reservoir using a canal about 8 km long.

The area of the reservoir is 51 square meters. km with a maximum depth of 18 m and a water level difference of within 2 m, which has a beneficial effect on the reproduction and development of fish resources in the reservoir throughout the entire period of operation of the reservoir.

Fishermen with sufficient experience usually catch a certain type of fish, using special gear, bait, groundbait and selecting special areas taking into account the bottom topography, depth and species habits of the fish.

It is necessary to highlight several species that are most often encountered when fishing:

  1. White bream is a type of fish that lives in certain places that you need to know or search throughout the reservoir using an echo sounder . There are quite large specimens weighing several kilograms.
  2. Roach – large specimens are found. Winter fishing for roach is especially popular in the areas of the mouths of the Yauza tides at a depth of 3-5 m with the greatest activity during the onset of a thaw.
  3. Perch is a rather rare fish, feeding in places where roots accumulate. When examining and detecting accumulations of fish, the fisherman can expect a decent catch.
  4. Quite often when fishing you come across: pike perch, silver bream, bleak, pike, rudd.

Composition of ichthyofauna

The reservoir is characterized by a fairly rich species composition of ichthyofauna. The most common fish caught on amateur fishing gear are:

  • roach;
  • bream;
  • silver bream;
  • rudd;
  • bleak;
  • ide;
  • pike;
  • zander;
  • perch;
  • asp;
  • burbot.

In the eighties of the last century, the reservoir was actively stocked with carp, but this fish did not acclimatize well and is extremely rare. Occasionally, a medium-sized catfish sits on the hooks of bottom gear.

Fish abundance

In the Yauzsky Reservoir you can find almost any fish that lives in rivers flowing in the lands of the European part of Russia. The only exception is catfish. Also a rare guest on the hook is sabrefish. But asp, bleak, burbot and perch, pike perch and roach, crucian carp and bream live here in great abundance.

A frequent guest in a fisherman's cage is rudd and ide, tench and pike. In general, there are a lot of predatory fish in the Yauza Reservoir. It is especially good for fishing rods (in winter) and for spinning rods and float rods (in summer). Pike and burbot fish better in a flooded riverbed, but it’s better to look for perch and pike perch where the holes are deeper.

Map with depths

The Yauza reservoir is divided into several zones:

  • The length is about 11-12 kilometers from the Loknya River to the dam itself. The features of the site include: a large accumulation of fish, mainly at a depth of 5-6 meters;
  • Most often pike perch, bleak, and roach peck.
  • It begins near the village of Kurdyuk and ends near the ferry crossing. Distinctive features of the zone: maximum bite can be observed at a depth of 7 meters;
  • you can successfully catch bleak, pike, rudd, roach;
  • Weighty breams are often found.
  • A reservoir between the settlements of Savino and Kurdyuki. The following are considered features:
      has numerous places where perch and pike perch gather - for these fish it is advisable to go to the village of Pudyshi;
  • in deep areas there is an excellent bite for roach and rudd.
  • The total area of the third zone is 24 square kilometers.

    In the place where the Yauza flows into the reservoir, perch is often caught, and large ones at that.

    Geographical information

    The Yauzskoye Reservoir is located 180 km north-west of Moscow (if you move along the Volokolamsk Highway), in the north-eastern part of the Smolensk region, 3 km from the village. Karmanova, on the Yauza River.

    The Yauza reservoir is formed from the raised waters of the upper reaches of the Yauza, the Lokni, Trupyanka, Kuklinka, Savinka, Titovka rivers, as well as water pumped from the Vazuza reservoir through an eight-kilometer canal. The reservoir dam is located 3 km north of the village of Karmanovo, Gagarinsky district, Smolensk region. The concrete dam has a length of 910 meters, there is a car crossing along it, and water is discharged from a height of about 22 meters. Together with the Vazuzsky and Verkhne-Ruzsky reservoirs it forms the Vazuzsky hydraulic system. Height above sea level - 214 m.

    Area 51 km², volume 0.2903 km³. Length 25 km, maximum width 4 km, average depth 4.5 m, maximum - 25 m. The length of the coastline is 210 km. The average annual flow is 121 million m³.

    The reservoir consists of two branches. One stretches approximately 15 kilometers from the village of Karmanovo to the north along the valley of the Yauza tributary - Lokni. The northern part of this branch, four kilometers, is part of the Tver region. The average width of this branch is from 500 meters to one kilometer. Several bays branch off from the branch on the western side. The second branch stretches more than 20 kilometers from the village of Karmanovo to the east and runs mainly along the Yauza valley. In the center of this branch there is a large reach, in the widest places of which the distance between the banks is up to 5 km. Several bays extend from the main reach in different directions.

    The reservoir is divided into three sections: Section 1 - branch to the Loknya River; section 2 - from the village of Yastreby (ferry crossing) to the village of Kurdyuki; section 3 - from the village of Kurdyuki to the village of Vetrovo.

    Best fishing spots

    Of course, to know the best places for fishing, you must both be born and live in this area. But there are some fishing tricks and tricks that you can focus on: holes, including their number, left after fishing. The number of bloodworms, the remains of food near the hole - everything can tell you what kind of bite there was and how long ago. But, until you understand all these features, you can start from the mouth of a stream.

    You can also expect a good catch in the floodplains of the Titovka, Savinka and Trupyanka rivers. If you are interested in pike perch, then it hides in water holes near the villages of Pudyshki and Kurdyuki: it is good to catch it with mugs. Snag in general is one of those places that are good for catching any fish, but especially predatory ones.

    Pike like these places because they give them the opportunity to remain invisible to their prey. Roaches also love snags. At the confluence of the Yauza River into the reservoir there are large areas of rare snags, and this is where roaches ply. Large roaches can also be found from the side of Pogorely Gorodishche, not far from the flooded tributary bed at a depth of 4 meters.

    And the surrounding waters near the village of Bolshie Nosovy are excellent for spinning. Here you can catch a large perch and, if you’re lucky, at least a kilogram. And of course, if you go fishing regularly, after some time you will know where this or that fish should be at the level of intuition. Fishing Features

    Most often people come here for winter fishing, since in the summer not all places can be reached without special transport. It’s good to catch pike and pike perch using girders, or if we are talking about winter, then pike perch is perfectly caught using a spoon or balance beam.

    You can also catch the following fish with a float:

    • roach,
    • bream,
    • guster,
    • bleak.

    Description of the Yauzsky Reservoir

    This reservoir was formed artificially on the Yauza River and is located in the Smolensk region, near the village of Karmanovo. With a length of 25 kilometers, it has a large width of about 4 kilometers. The reservoir is not deep, with average depths of about 4 meters, despite the fact that there are areas with depths of up to 25 meters. It appeared as a result of the construction of a dam. Local places are distinguished by untouched nature, clean water and a variety of fish species. Therefore, both local and visiting fishermen visit the Yauz Reservoir with great pleasure. On the banks of the Yauzsky reservoir there are built both simple houses for fishermen and recreation centers where it is possible to stay for a couple of days, either alone or with the whole family. Those who do not want comfortable conditions can rest in their tent. Based on this, it is possible to say that there are all conditions for any type of recreation.

    Pudyshi, Yauzskoye Reservoir - fishing in winter

    Avid fishermen prefer to go to the Yauzskoye Reservoir in winter.

    Fishing here during this period has a number of features:

    • Ice does not form in many areas due to warm currents;
    • The fish you come across are heavy; often in the winter months trophy varieties are fished out;
    • There is an excellent bite on artificial and always scented baits.

    In order to leave with a decent catch in winter, you need to know some nuances regarding this reservoir:

    • From the beginning of January to the end of February the ice is thickest.
    • White bream and silver bream migrate to maximum depth - they bite most in areas where the depth is from 8 to 9 meters.
    • Only pike are found in the pits - from December to February, pike bite excellently on small crucian carp and pieces of fresh liver.
    • Towards mid-March, bream and silver bream are found at a depth of 4-5 meters.

    Bream and silver bream begin to move towards shallow water as air and water temperatures rise.

    Experienced fishermen highlight the most fruitful places for fishing in the winter months:

    • near the villages of Bolshie Nosovye and Arzhaniki;
    • to the right of the village of Pudyshi.

    Advice: you can try fishing in less popular areas, the main thing is to use the right bait in this case.

    Knowledgeable fishermen suggest that on the Yauza Reservoir in the winter season a fruitful catch is guaranteed by:

    • The use of several gears , especially with increased sensitivity.
    • Using bloodworms as bait. If it is difficult to obtain natural baits, then artificial baits are a good alternative, most importantly small in size, shiny in color and with a pungent odor.
    • The holes should not be too small.

    Advice: on a reservoir, especially in popular places, many holes remain from previous anglers. It is worth paying attention to them so as not to waste your time making new ones.

    Fishing at different times of the year

    Fishing in summer

    For effective fishing in the summer, it is better to have a boat or motorboat. In extreme cases, it is possible to rent. Along with this, you cannot use nets and other poaching fishing gear. The reservoir is invariably guarded by fisheries authorities, and if caught, you can pay a huge fine for violating the law. Quite a lot of promising places are located on the northern side of the reservoir.

    If there is no boat, then this is not a problem, just like from the shore, if you have experience, it is possible to catch a sufficient amount of fish. Exciting fishing spots are located on the banks of the Yauzsky Reservoir, where the fishing base is located. If you get to these places, you will not be left without fish under any circumstances. Unfortunately, you will need to pay money for this.

    Features of catching individual species

    To successfully fish on the Yauzsky Reservoir, an angler needs to know when specific types of fish exhibit increased feeding activity and what gear is best to use to catch them.

    Roach

    Roach is one of the most popular fishing objects on the Yauzsky Reservoir. In the spring, it is successfully caught with float rods in numerous shallow bays, using worms and maggots as bait.

    In winter, you can fish well for large roach on the Yauzsky Reservoir.

    In summer, a feeder is often used to catch it. In warm water, this fish prefers to peck on plant types of bait:

    • boiled pearl barley;
    • scalded oatmeal;
    • semolina mash.

    In winter, the roach bite begins 10–15 days after the establishment of a strong ice cover. Jig tackle is often the most effective. The most versatile bait is bloodworm.

    On a note! Excellent places for roach fishing are located near the village of Pogoreloye Gorodishche. Flocks consisting of individuals weighing 700–900 g are often found here.

    Fishing on the Volga at the end of summer

    Bream

    In June, active bream fishing begins on the reservoir. To fish for this representative of the carp family, they usually use feeder gear, but local anglers prefer to fish with a classic bottom. The best bait is considered to be a dung worm.

    Throughout the summer, bream bites well in the dark. At night, it comes close to the shore, which makes it possible to use a fly rod, the float of which is equipped with a firefly, to catch it. This fish is fed with both purchased and home-prepared mixtures.

    In winter, bream is caught at a depth of 8–12 m. For catching, a float rod or tackle called a “yoke” is often used. It is advisable to feed the holes in advance with a mixture that contains animal components:

    • feed bloodworm;
    • chopped worm;
    • small maggot.

    Good places for catching bream are located in the area of the village of Kurdyuki. In this area, it is not uncommon to catch individuals weighing more than 2 kg.

    Gustera

    The Yauz silver bream can grow up to a kilogram in size, so many anglers are keen on catching it. In spring, fish are quite easy to catch using float gear. With the onset of summer, it shifts to areas with depths of 4–6 m, which requires the use of feeder gear.

    On a note! In winter, silver bream is often caught on jig tackle when fishing for roach, but prefers larger baits consisting of two to three bloodworms. The largest specimens are caught on the last ice using a “devil”.

    Rudd

    Almost all shallow bays are inhabited by rudd. In summer and spring it is well caught with float tackle. The descent must be adjusted so that the nozzle is in the upper layers of the water. The best bait is maggot. A fine-grained bait mixture will allow you to quickly collect fish at the desired point.

    Large rudd on the Yauza Reservoir often attacks surface spinning baits designed to catch perch.

    In winter, the feeding activity of rudd is at a very low level. The bite resumes with the arrival of spring and fresh water entering under the ice. At this time, reelless jig tackle is effective.

    Bleak

    Fishing for bleak at the reservoir can be very exciting. To catch it, use a short float rod 3–5 m long. The load capacity of the bite alarm should not exceed 1 g.

    During the entire period of open water, bleak bites well on maggots. To lure it to the fishing point you will need bait with a high content of milk powder or baby food. These components will create a stable column of turbidity that keeps the fish in the desired zone.

    In winter, bleak is inactive. You can catch it from the ice only in late March - early April. Thin jig tackle is well suited for this type of fishing. Used as bait:

    • burdock moth larva;
    • bloodworm;
    • small pieces of lard;
    • small maggot.

    On the last ice, the bleak can be collected under the hole using breadcrumbs.

    Ide

    The ide in the Yauzsky Reservoir lives in backwaters with depths of 2–3 m. The peak of its activity occurs in May, since during this period there is a massive emergence of insects, which form the basis of the fish’s food supply.

    On a note! To catch ide, a float rod, spinning rod and fly fishing tackle are often used. The feeder shows good results in the autumn. In winter, this species is occasionally caught using jigs and vertical spoons when fishing for perch.

    Pike

    It is allowed to catch pike in the reservoir only from mid-June, when the spawning ban ends. In summer, the predator prefers to hunt in the coastal zone and is more often found in large bays. In such places, “circles” are successfully used to catch it, using small perch or roach as bait.

    During the period of low feeding activity, the Yauza pike ignores artificial baits and prefers to peck at live bait attached to the hook of a tackle called a “circle”.

    By August, most of the bays are heavily overgrown, so at the end of summer, spinning gear is better suited for pike fishing, allowing you to catch grass in windows. The following types of baits work well at this time:

    • unloaded “rubber”;
    • oscillating spinners in a non-clinging version;
    • poppers;
    • crawlers;
    • silicone imitations of frogs;
    • "Croatian egg"

    With the arrival of autumn, pike move to deeper areas, where they continue to be caught with jig baits. In winter, stable results are shown by girder gear installed at the exits of bays. Promising places for catching the predator are located near the village of Petushki.

    Zander

    Spinning fishermen often come to this reservoir for pike perch, of which there are a lot here. Summer fishing rarely brings trophies weighing more than 2 kg. Really large specimens begin to appear in the second half of September. To catch them, a fast-action spinning rod with a cast of 20–50 g is used. The baits are narrow-bodied vibrotails of bright color and foam fish. Fishing is carried out at a depth of 5–10 m.

    Catching pike perch from the ice is no less interesting than fishing for this predator in open water. In winter, you should look for it in snagged holes 7–12 m deep. The following are used as bait:

    • ratlins (vibes);
    • vertical spinners;
    • balancers;
    • "amphipods".

    On a note! In autumn and winter, flocks of “fanged” are often found in the area of the settlement of Pudyshi, where there are several large, snagged pits.

    Perch

    Small perch weighing up to 200 g can always be caught in the coastal zone of the reservoir. Trophy specimens are hunted in areas with complex bottom topography, at a depth of 3–5 m. In summer and autumn they are caught using classic jig baits. In winter, “humpback whales” willingly attack ratlins and balance beams.

    Throughout the year, schools of large perch are found near the village of Bolshie Nosov. At the confluence of the Titovka River you can also count on catching individuals weighing more than 1 kg.

    Asp

    The peak bite of the Yauza asp occurs in August. At this time, it gathers in large flocks and, when hunting for fry, begins to form “cauldrons”, which are easy to detect by the large concentration of terns above the water. During the sheresper's zhora, the type of bait does not play a decisive role, but the following are considered the most catchy:

    • jig-type spinners weighing 15–30 g;
    • stickbaits;
    • “turntables” No. 2–3;
    • Devons;
    • wobblers running just under the surface of the water.

    On a note! At the end of October, asp often hunt in the bottom layers of water and are caught on jig baits designed to catch pike perch and pike perch. During the period of open water, large flocks of sheresper often hunt in the floodplains of the Savinka and Trupyanka rivers.

    Burbot

    The bulk of burbot in the reservoir is caught in winter. The most active bite is observed in the second half of January. The predator is usually caught at night. It is caught with “sets” and jigs set at a depth of 3–6 m. Sliced fish or live ruff are used as bait.

    ***

    The Yauzskoye Reservoir is rightfully considered one of the most fishy reservoirs in central Russia. Knowledge of the most promising fishing areas, as well as correctly selected baits and baits, will allow the angler to count on a good bite at any time of the year.

    Fishing reports

    An example of fishing on the Yauza Reservoir can be a brief report from a group of fishermen.

    Arriving in the village of Pudyshi early in the morning, we passed the checkpoint and entered the territory of the reservoir. The road is in good condition with equipped approaches to the shore of the reservoir.

    The group included three fishermen who decided to go fishing for 24 hours at the beginning of January in the area of the 2nd island on the Yauzsky reservoir . For fishing, they used a boat with the help of which they fished at a distance from the shore up to 2 km with a fishing depth of 5-6 m. Girders were used as equipment.

    Taking into account all the organizational arrangements, we started fishing at 11:30. At 12-00 the bites began 2-3 times per hour. Moreover, the fish behaved quite actively, constantly attacking the bait.

    The most active biting began at 16-30 with an intensity of 5-6 times within an hour. The fish were also active at night, but with less intensity, 1-2 bites per hour.

    In total, during the day the total fish catch was 4-5 kg (pike perch) for each fisherman with an average weight of 1 fish of 0.5-1 kg.

    How to catch more fish?

    I have been active fishing for quite some time and have found many ways to improve the bite. And here are the most effective:

    1. Bite activator. Attracts fish in cold and warm water with the help of pheromones included in the composition and stimulates its appetite. It’s a pity that Rosprirodnadzor wants to impose a ban on its sale.
    2. More sensitive gear. Reviews and instructions for other types of gear can be found on the pages of my website.
    3. Lures using pheromones.

    You can get the rest of the secrets of successful fishing for free by reading my other materials on the site.

    Popularity

    Fishing on this reservoir in the hot months is characterized by inaccessibility to its northern section. However, if you have a motor boat, then an excellent opportunity opens up for amateurs to fish in areas that are far from populated areas. Here, with a float rod, you can get a good catch of bream and roach, white bream, silver bream, and bleak.

    Not only fishing, but also relaxation on the banks of the Yauzsky Reservoir are popular among Moscow residents, who come here to admire the local nature, spend a weekend or just for picnics. This is very convenient, since the reservoir is only two hundred kilometers from the capital in the Volokolamsk direction. For a comfortable stay, several modern tourist bases have been built here, where you can rent a boat and, having received useful advice from experienced fishermen, go to the middle of the reservoir for a good catch. Here you can also get a fishing license.

    Fishing at different times of the year

    Fishing in summer

    For effective fishing in the summer, it is better to have a boat or motorboat. As a last resort, you can rent. At the same time, you cannot use nets and other poaching fishing gear. The reservoir is constantly patrolled by fisheries authorities, and if caught, you can pay a huge fine for violating the law. Many promising places are located on the northern side of the reservoir.

    If there is no boat, then this is not a problem, just like from the shore, if you have experience, you can catch a sufficient amount of fish. Interesting fishing spots are located on the banks of the Yauzsky Reservoir, where the fishing base is located. If you get to these places, you will never be left without fish. Unfortunately, you will have to pay money for this.

There is an opportunity to stay in the village of Savino.

    Variety of fish in the pond

    Here you can catch many types of fish of completely different sizes . Mostly, avid fishing enthusiasts catch:

    • There are a lot of pike perch, this is due to the fact that after the creation of the reservoir, the population of these fish was immediately launched, and now organizations support it. In addition, this is due to the fact that pike perch are familiar with this area; nearby is the Volga River, which is rich in the same fish. It can be caught with almost all baits, but it is best to use a spinner of bright different colors on both sides.
    • Perch is already smaller than pike perch, small in size, catching a trophy of 500-600 g is already good luck. Lives under snags, not far from the shore.
    • Pike is also present here in small quantities; one of the peculiarities of its fishing is that it is very active .
