Stary Oskol Reservoir . The Stary Oskol reservoir is located on the border of the Belgorod and Kursk regions. It was formed in 1976 at the confluence of the rivers Stuzhenek, Oskol, Apochka, Bystrik, Borovka, by building a dam and flooding a huge area along with vegetable gardens, hayfields and houses. The volume of this reservoir on the Oskol River is 95 million cubic meters.
Currently, the reservoir is used for the production of marketable fish, irrigation of agricultural crops, supply of water to industrial enterprises, and are places of cultural and sports recreation for the population. The main sources of surface water pollution are housing and communal services enterprises, the total amount of wastewater of which is 80%.
The Stary Oskol Reservoir is a favorite place for amateur fishing for many city residents. Fishing on the Starooskol Reservoir is good at almost any time of the year. They fish exclusively here and many do not recognize other bodies of water, especially paid ones. You can fish from the shore, but it’s better, of course, by boat, passing along the old and snagged bed of the Oskol River. The main depth is 3-4 meters, it follows the old river bed, in some places it reaches up to 6-7 meters. Near the dam there is a large hole 13-15 meters deep, where they mainly catch pike perch. There is a very large snag about 250m long. and a width of 100-130m. Of course, all the fish are there.
According to the rules, fishing within 500 meters of the dam is prohibited. Knowing the catch spots, holes, snags on the riverbed, you can have a good fishing and relaxation here.
The main fish of this reservoir are roach and bleak, and also perch, pike, pike perch, carp, crucian carp, bream, and ruffe live here.
Stary Oskol Reservoir is very popular among winter fishing enthusiasts. Predators caught: pike perch, decent perch and whitefish: roach, bream, silver bream.
Below the dam there is a lake, which is called the Spillway, since it is here that Oskol waters flow through a small canal behind the water dam. At the confluence of this channel into the reservoir there is an interesting sandy spit, on which pike perch stand in the summer (in the fall it moves to deeper parts of the reservoir). Its dimensions are small, but it is caught regularly. In autumn, perch is caught in abundance on the dumps of the spit. This can be explained by the fact that until the freeze-up, large quantities of bleak remain near the stream. She stands on the surface, and the perch is under her, at the bottom.
If fishing will be done from a boat, it is important to position it correctly. The results of several fishing trips have repeatedly convinced us that it is best to stand on the spit itself, in the middle or closer to its end, where a small depression begins, or under the reeds on the opposite bank. Under the opposite bank, this stream bifurcates, and two streams go in different directions: one towards the dam, the other towards the river, and the advantage of this arrangement of the boat is that you can fish not only the left and right streams, playing with bait against the current, but also a small pit near the opposite bank. Despite the fact that perch bites often occur in the left stream, the right one also sometimes pleases with the capture of beautiful “stripers”. Here you can always find zander in summer or perch in late autumn.
The fishing tactics are simple: we cast 10-15 m further than the drop and lead the bait with a classic step with small throws. Bites are usually angry and confident and occur both on the fall of the bait and from the bottom. The weights required in this place are not heavy - only 7 g, and the size of the bait is at your discretion. With such a weight, there is a wonderful pause during the retrieve. As for the size, perch can be tempted by baits even 12 cm long. But this is when fishing with a jig. Wobblers also provide a good bite.
The Stary Oskol reservoir has excellent access to the water. On the banks of the reservoir there are various recreation centers, sanatoriums, dispensaries, a fishing camp, a fisherman’s house and a hunter’s house.

Bait and feeding
For fishing, dung worms or maggots are most often used as bait. For example, silver bream can be caught very well using maggots. For successful fishing, the most favorable places are quiet and deep places. But there are times when it “bites” even near the shore. Conventional (fly) fishing rods are very suitable for fishing in Oskol.
If you manage to choose a place where the current is calmest, then fishing turns into a wonderful vacation on the river bank or on a boat. This way you can combine business with pleasure.
Bait plays an important role in any fishing. Oskol fishermen most often use cake, porridge, usually millet and rolled oats. With such bait you can catch even when there seems to be no bite at all. The river in Oskol is very clear, and this attracts underwater fishing enthusiasts. If you suddenly fail to catch a fish, then there is a high probability of catching crayfish when underwater fishing, of which there are a large number in Oskol.
On the Ublya and Kotel rivers you can catch pike. These rivers have a stronger current and therefore it is almost impossible to feed them. For successful fishing, spinning rods with wobblers or spinners are more suitable.

Fishing on the Belgorod Reservoir
To provide Belgorod with water, a reservoir with a dam was created near it on the Seversky Donets in the Shebekinsky district, in the village of Bezlyudovka.
The area of the Belgorod reservoir is 23 km², the coastline of the reservoir is 85 km long.
The reservoir is of medium depth, as it maneuvers from 3 to 14 m.
Fishing on the reservoir is possible at any time of the year. In summer, perch, roach and decent silver bream are caught here. In the Ivanovka area, near the dam and pumping station, there are good specimens of bream. Pike and pike perch are caught on the girder.
Fishing on the Korochansky reservoir
The Korochanskoe reservoir is located in the Belgorod region on the Korocha River.
It is located near Borisovka, Stary Oskol and Belgorod. Its volume is 6.8 million m3.
