We invite you to try your luck on the most fishy lakes and rivers of the Valdai Territory, enjoying the wonderful scenery. Excellent fishing in Valdai, both for amateurs and athletes, continues here all year round. For lovers of spearfishing, there are also many interesting and fishing spots in our reservoirs.
Lake Kolominets – length 5 km, depth up to 15 meters. The lake is a fishing lake, only hotel guests can fish. Fish spots are fed daily.
Almost all fish are found. Carp (carp) has been launched. Main fish: pike, perch, bream, roach (in abundance), tench, crucian carp.
The lake mostly has high banks, with good approaches to fishing spots. Spinning rods, rollers, and fishing rods work effectively. For bream it is better to use a rubber band (the feeder is not so effective), and pea bait.
In total, about twenty species of fish are found in Valdai. The main catch of fishermen is pike perch, perch, pike, bream, carp, asp, tench, ide, chub, roach, crucian carp, burbot, eel. In the spring-summer period, almost any fish found in reservoirs is well caught, and with the onset of frost and the appearance of ice cover, ice (winter) fishing begins, which is extremely popular in Russia. The main prey of ice fishing are perch, pike perch, pike, bream, and roach.
The main fishing in Valdai takes place on Lake Kolominets, on which the Valdai Estate is located. Along the entire coast within the hotel territory, our guests have the opportunity to fish with a summer fishing rod or with a feeder (donka). There are also several bridges and piers in baited areas, from which fishing is especially convenient and effective. Plus, there is a small stocked pond where you can try to catch small carp.
On the “wild” shores of Lake Kolominets (length 5 km, depth up to 15 meters) there are about 2 dozen equipped places for fishing and camping with a tent. Local fishermen rarely come here due to the lack of roads, so you can fully experience real solitude. The lake is fishy, people fish from the shore mainly with a rubber band and a worm (pea bait).
From a boat you can troll and lure, set mugs and fish with a summer fishing rod. They fish in Valdai both independently and accompanied by a huntsman. Almost all fish are found.
Carp launched. Guests of our fishing base in Valdai are provided with tackle, bait and bait, as well as everything necessary to be alone with nature.
Experienced instructors will show you the places where fishing in Valdai will be most successful, and will tell you which bait or tackle is best to use. Boats, outboard motors, fishing rods and other equipment are provided to vacationers. In specially designated areas you can smoke and/or cook fish soup and shish kebab yourself or with the help of specialists.
The cost of fishing at our fishing base in Valdai, accompanied by a huntsman, ranges from 500 to 1500 rubles. For those who want to relax in Valdai with a close group, a fisherman's house is suitable. In total there are 2 rooms with 4 beds each. We are waiting for your visit!
Valdai Lake, or Valdai, is called the pearl of the Novgorod region. Located close to civilization, it is nevertheless famous for its pristine landscapes and uniquely clean water.
Here you can feel all the charm of wild nature without giving up your usual comfort. This is a great place to relax at any time of the year. It attracts tourists from all over Russia.
Of course, most people come to the lake in the summer: to sunbathe on the famous sandy beaches, go boating or scuba dive into the depths. However, there is entertainment for every taste: excursions, horseback riding and hiking, as well as sports games. Valdai Lake is no less interesting in winter.
From December to the end of April it is covered with durable ice on which you can ski or snowmobile. And, of course, exciting and productive fishing awaits you here all year round.
White Lake Valdai Lake is often compared to Lake Baikal. Of course, it cannot be compared in size with the Siberian giant, its area is slightly less than 20 km², and its maximum depth is “only” about 60 m. However, among the Novgorod lakes it is perhaps the deepest. The exceptionally clean water also gives it a resemblance to Lake Baikal. Geological exploration discovered a giant underground lake here, connected to the Valdai Lake by numerous crevices. The bottom springs gushing out of them are the reason for its incredible purity. According to one version, the name Valdai itself means “white” or “light.”
Southern taiga The nature of the lake region is as unique as the lake itself. It is strikingly different from traditional Novgorod landscapes.
The fact is that the lake is located in one of the highest places in the Valdai Hills, 192 m above sea level. And the hill itself, in turn, is characterized by a surprisingly changeable topography. The lake is surrounded on all sides by long ridges of hills covered with forest.
They alternate with deep depressions, giving the impression of real mountain ranges. Craters, caves and river valleys scattered here and there give this region a fabulous, fantastic look.
This unusual relief is the reason for the originality of Valdai nature. Lakeside forests, especially at higher elevations, resemble the Siberian taiga, although they are located much south of the taiga zone. Mighty cedars and giant oaks coexist with the usual spruce and birch trees, and sandy beaches are framed by forests of beautiful pine trees.
The wildlife here is also rather taiga: moose, martens, raccoons, otters, and birds - ducks, herons, wood grouse and many others. True, when getting out into the local forests you should be careful: there are also plenty of predators in the forests - wolves, bears and lynxes.
Bells and bells The bottom of Lake Valdai has the same winding topography as the surrounding land. Many islands and islets rise above the water surface. On the largest of them, Ryabinov, stands one of the main attractions of the lake - the Iversky Monastery. It was founded in the 17th century by Patriarch Nikon and over time became the spiritual heart of the region, the center of education, printing and crafts.
On the shore of the lake stands one of the oldest cities in Russia - Valdai. Since ancient times, it has been known throughout the country for its bell casting. According to one legend, in the 15th century the Novgorod veche bell crashed here.
The first coachman's bells of Valdai were cast from its fragments. Now this is one of the most recognizable Russian souvenirs. By the way, there is even a bell museum in Valdai.
Fishing from a distance
The crystal clear water of Lake Valdai is home to more than 20 species of fish. There is no need to look for anything exotic here, but traditional fishing trophies such as pike, bream, whitefish or burbot are found in abundance. Local residents jokingly say that the Valdai fish is the most correct: it bites on any bait. Even without much experience, you can take away a good catch from here.
Fishing in Valdai is most active, as elsewhere, in the spring-summer and winter periods. But even in autumn the fish bites well here, in particular bream. As the weather gets colder, this fish comes to the surface less and less often and sticks to the bottom.
In Lake Valdai, bream even prefer greater depths rich in plankton. Local residents say that over the past 20 years these fish have approached the shore only once. It must be said that the purity of Valdai water also has its drawbacks: bream can easily be spooked by the shadow of a passing boat.

Features of fishing in Valdai
Most of those fishermen who have the “honor” of living in the middle zone of our country know about Lake Valdai. True, some know a lot about him, others only by hearsay. However, every year the number of fishermen who have visited this one of the most beautiful lakes in Russia at least once is growing.
The advantages of the lake include the fact that it is forbidden to drive on boats and motor boats, and fishing is strictly regulated by the relevant authorities. This, of course, played a positive role in the fact that Lake Valdai was preserved almost in a “virgin” form. There are a lot of fish in the lake, but you have to try hard to catch them, because... the fish here are shy and all thanks to the noisiness of vacationers. In addition, lake water also affects fishing. After all, the lake is quite deep, so the water in it is quite cold, and the seasonal concentration of the main fish in the lake (bream, pike, pike perch, roach) is short-term in nature, which manifests itself during the seasons.
To successfully fish on this lake, you need to live near it for a long time, studying all the habits of the local fish. So it is not recommended to go to Valdai purely for fishing without the necessary experience. It is best to visit the lakes adjacent to Valdai, where you can have a blast fishing.

All those reservoirs that adjoin Valdai or are located in close proximity to it differ from other similar reservoirs in clean water, a large population of fish and crayfish, as well as a huge selection of fish food. Although, each such lake “specializes” in one type of fish. But the variety of fish here is quite tempting: pike, trout, ide, perch, tench. If you want to fish for bream, it’s best to do it on Chernushka, as well as Yelchinskoye or maybe Polosa. Crucian carp and tench have chosen Seredeyskoye, as well as Bolshoye Vyskodno and also Plotishino. In Targan there is quite a large perch, and in Ukleinsky - pike and bream.
Be that as it may, it is best to catch roach, perch and bream in these places in holes, the depth of which is at least 6 m. Although such holes very often approach the very shore, there are quite a few such places. If you fish from the shore in holes, you can catch quite large specimens, even larger than when fishing from a boat. In general, the most common depth when fishing from the shore is considered to be a depth of 1.5-3 meters.

During the daytime, the fish stands at half-water. This is most likely due to the separation of water layers by temperature. In the evening, the fish tries to come as close as possible to the coastal vegetation and the catch is largely related to how afraid the fish is of the fisherman and how attractive the bait is to it. Therefore, fishing in these places must be combined with good camouflage, choice of fishing depth and fishing time.
However, in the summer, it is best to catch fish in Valdai and the local lakes in the evening. But this only applies to non-predatory fish species. If we talk about fishing for pike or perch, then these types of fish are perfectly caught with spinning rods even at lunchtime. Although, a lot depends on the weather. In this regard, fishing in Valdai is very similar to fishing in northern Russian rivers. When cold weather sets in, the bite stops almost immediately and usually only small fish are caught on the hook.
If we talk about baits for “Valdai” fish, then everything is not so smooth here. If the fisherman is “programmed” in advance to catch large quantities of roach or bleak as big as the palm of his hand, then maggots or bloodworms will do just fine for this. But for large bream, in addition to the above bait, you will also have to stock up on worms. You can also catch caddis flies right on the pond.
Fishing bases
In the vicinity of Lake Valdai there are many fishing and tourist bases. We present only a small sample. Before you go fishing, call the base and make sure that there will be free places at that time.

Valdai Lake map
The Valdai reservoir is famous for its sandy shores. There are three fairly large islands on Lake Valdai, these are:
- Birch Island
- Rowan
- Treacle.
On Ryabinov Island there is a complex of buildings of the Iversky Monastery, which is also an epoch-making architectural monument of the 17-18 centuries. The restoration of the monastery was carried out in 2007-2008.
Valdai Lake is home to a large number of different species of fish. The main ones are:
- Acne
- Peled
- Ide
- Bream
- Perch
- Pike
But, despite such a variety of fish, some fishermen remain without a catch. The reason for this may be the ban on the use of motor boats, limited access to the shore, and the influence of law enforcement officials on the behavior of fishermen. And also the features of the reservoir itself do not contribute to favorable fishing. Due to the great depth of the lake and low water temperature, the fish gather in shallow water, where the depth does not exceed five meters, or concentrate in schools that continuously move throughout the reservoir.
Valdai Lake itself cannot be called a favorite place for fishing enthusiasts. In order to leave this reservoir with at least some catch, you need to live in these parts and know the characteristic signs of the behavior of local fish. Therefore, holidays on Lake Valdai for the purpose of fishing are not particularly popular. You can go to the lakes that are located near Lake Valdai. They contain much more fish and hunt them much easier. All reservoirs adjacent to Lake Valdai are distinguished by the purity of their water.
In addition, holidays on Lake Valdai are very common among travel lovers. This body of water is famous for its hospitality and is ready to receive tourists all year round. These places are environmentally friendly. In summer, water activities are provided here, for example, swimming, riding catamarans and boats, snorkeling, etc. In addition, horseback riding and cycling, various games such as mini-golf, football, volleyball and others are welcome. You won’t be bored on the lake in winter either. You can go skiing, snowmobiling or sledding down the hills. You can settle on the territory of the Valdai reservoir if you wish, either at tourist bases, or in tents as wild people.

Fishing and recreation in Valdai in summer and winter
Dear Alexander Ilyich! I read almost all of your recommendations about holidays in Valdai. Every year in June - August we relax on Akhtuba and the Volga as a savage. Tell me, where can I have a good rest and go fishing if I have a motor boat and small children, and how is the situation with drinking water? Oleg.
There are many lakes for recreation and fishing in Valdai - more than 100, and the places here are picturesque everywhere. In my opinion, the most attractive lakes for “wild” recreation are Borovno (25-30 km northwest of Valdai), Boroe (5-7 km south of Valdai - near the M10 highway, in the same direction are lakes Elchinskoye, and Seredeiskoye), Gorodenskoye (15-20 km south of Valdai). These are all places within a 20-40 minute drive to Valdai. We can also recommend the western and north-eastern coast of Lake Velye, the north-western and western coast of Lake Shlino, Lake Berezai - a little further from Valdai, but the places are quieter, there are fewer people, the nature is beautiful (these are my personal “preferences”).
About the tents. Camping in the territory of the Valdai National Park with tents is allowed only in specially designated places - recreational sites. There are such prepared tent sites (usually a site for tents, tables, benches, fire pits, garbage cans) at almost every lake. To stay on the territory of the National Park you must obtain a permit. The entrance ticket price in 2010 was: for an adult - 100 rubles per day, children from 7 to 14 years old - 50 rubles per day, children under 7 years old - free. A ticket can be purchased at the administration of the National Park (Valdai, Pobedy St., 5) or issued from a forester (ranger) directly at the recreational parking lot. Also, for legal fishing in Valdai you need to purchase a registration card, its cost is 30 rubles.
For drinking water, they usually use water from springs, springs and wells near nearby villages, but some boil and drink lake water.
About a motor boat. According to clause 23 of the Regulations on the state institution “Valdaisky National Park”, “The administration of the national park regulates the regime of navigation on water bodies within the territory of the park, taking into account the functional zoning and ecological state of the territory and issues permits for the right to move through the water area of the park on small vessels as agreed with the administrations of the respective districts." In fact, the use of small motorized watercraft on the reservoirs of the Valdai National Park is prohibited. Only for Lake Velje a partial exception has been made with significant restrictions: the use of motors with a power of more than 40 hp, the use of motor boats from 23-00 to 6-00, travel closer than 100 meters from fishing grounds by amateur fishermen, travel in places of public recreation, etc. Permits are issued if you have a certificate for the right to operate an outboard motor, a certificate of registration of a motorboat, a ship's ticket with a passed technical inspection, and a passport. In addition, life jackets and a first aid kit are required. In this case, prior approval is required from the heads of administration of the districts where the lake is located. Due to all of the above, bringing your motor boats to Valdai, in my opinion, is practically useless: you can spend a lot of time on approvals, but never get permission. If you take risks and swim without permission, you can get a large fine from the inspectors. Phone numbers for the park administration in case of any other questions are (816-66) 2-8-671, 2-18-09, 2-94-92.
Happy fishing and a good summer vacation in Valdai!!
