The Greek festival "Acropolis" took place over the weekend in Moscow

This year's Akropolis festival took place in the Hermitage Garden on September 22 and 23. The festival was attended by a total of more than 50,000 people, which is an absolute record for Akropolis, which has been held for the fourth year in a row. According to the organizers, this number of guests is explained by several reasons: growing interest in the culture of Greece, a rich and varied program, good weather, and also the fact that for the first time the festival was held over two days.

Visitors were able to fully enjoy the culture of Greece. Greek musicians and dancers performed on the main concert stage, including Ariadne Prokopidou, Nadezhda Rafailidi, Melania Mourouzidou, Mikhail Chelakidi and many others. Films about Greece and its culture were broadcast at the small theater venue, and meetings were held with directors and actors. The fair of Greek products and folk crafts ran for two days. The vernissage of Greek artists – Nina Ioannidi, Dimitar Grivas and Mikhail Baglaridis – was especially popular. Both days the tasting of Greek cuisine aroused constant interest.

Ivan Petrov, Deputy Head of the Department of National Policy and Interregional Relations of the City of Moscow, delivered a welcoming speech at the Festival: “This festival has been taking place for several years in the center of Moscow. All Muscovites, regardless of nationality, come here, get real pleasure and are charged with a great mood. I would like to note that no matter what day the Greek culture festival takes place in Moscow, the sun is always shining, it’s always warm and beautiful.”

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin also sent greetings to the organizers and guests of the Festival: “The Akropolis Festival is a wonderful holiday, it originated several years ago and has already become a favorite among Muscovites for its vibrant performances by musicians and dancers, exciting master classes and children’s programs, and a unique folk fair. crafts and tasting of national cuisine. And the most important advantage of the festival is the friendly and welcoming atmosphere that unites people. "Acropolis teaches guests how to dance sirtaki, but most of all it teaches them to value friendship and cooperation, which are time-tested."

The Festival was first held in 2015, organized by the Moscow Society of Greeks, the Moscow Government and the State Autonomous Institution of the Moscow City Garden "Hermitage". The debut was timed to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the Moscow Greek Society and International Tourism Day. At the same time, the organizers formulated the mission of the Festival: to spread Greek culture in Russia and expand the circle of its admirers. The event is held with the support of the Department of National Policy and Interregional Relations of the city of Moscow.

The organizer of the Festival is the Regional Public Greek Youth Organization “ARGO” (Moscow), whose goal is to study history, preserve culture and maintain the language of the Pontian Greeks in Russia, with the participation of the “Yagrek” project, uniting Greeks and philhellenes of Russia.
