The All-Russian Nature Festival “Primordial Russia” returns to Krymsky Val in Moscow in 2021.

From February 19 to April 4, 2021, the VIII All-Russian Nature Festival “Primordial Russia” will be held in the halls of the Union of Artists of Russia in the New Tretyakov Gallery.

The festival is not only the largest exhibition of photographs of pristine nature in Europe, but also unique master classes, meetings, popular science lectures and screenings of documentaries about nature, and a children's program.

It has been taking place since 2014 and every day attracts more and more connoisseurs of the beauty of our native nature. For a month, unique works of nature photographers are exhibited in Moscow, and then residents of many cities in Russia and other countries have the opportunity to see them. Over seven years, more than 3 million people in 71 countries of the world have become guests of the Festival.

“Primordial Russia” is not only the country’s largest exhibition of wildlife photographs, but also a unique educational platform that hosts creative meetings, popular science lectures, master classes and screenings of the latest documentaries.

Within the framework of the festival, environmental projects are born, round tables are held where scientists, photographers and environmental protection specialists exchange experiences. Thanks to its unique format, the festival has become an international platform that presents Russian nature photography at the world level.

At the center of the 2021 exhibition is an ambitious joint project of the “Primordial Russia” festival and the “Big Year of Russia” Union of Wildlife Photographers. By uniting and choosing a variety of geographical locations for shooting, Russian nature photographers will present the diversity and beauty of the pristine nature of Russia day after day, over the course of one year.

With their project, photographers call for attention to the importance of preserving wildlife both in hard-to-reach corners of our country and close to home. Crimea and Novaya Zemlya, Altai and the Urals, the Arctic, Kalmykia, Khakassia, the Caucasus and many other geographical points... The best of what Russian wildlife photographers managed to capture in 2021 will be presented to the audience at the “Primordial Russia” festival.

The festival organizers are preparing a large-scale educational and cultural program for visitors dedicated to nature photography, travel and nature conservation. Guests can expect meetings with the most interesting speakers and the most current topics and trends.

In 2021, the focus will be on a new educational and discussion project dedicated to eco-tourism. The three-day intensive will allow visitors to become better acquainted with the topic and choose the most vibrant and interesting areas of eco-tourism in Russia.

Such a large-scale and meaningful event dedicated to this topic will be held in Russia for the first time. The best experts in the field of tourism and environmental protection will talk about the most interesting directions and trends in the development of eco-tourism in Russia, and present bright Russian and world cases in the field of eco-tourism.

Maintaining a balance between nature and man, features of the development of tourism in specially protected natural areas, the impact of tourism on the sustainable development of Russian regions - within the framework of the project, experts will exchange experiences, discuss the problems and challenges existing in this area, and will be able to develop a strategy and methods for the development of eco-tourism in Russia .

The guest exhibition of the festival in 2021 will be an exhibition of the best photographs of the Union of Finnish Photographers. In addition, at the festival you will be able to see unique original projects dedicated to the nature of Russia. A significant part of the exhibition will again be devoted to rare species of animals and plants.

The festival “Primordial Russia” is held with the support of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation, and the Federal Agency for Tourism. The festival is held using a grant from the President of the Russian Federation for the development of civil society provided by the Presidential Grants Fund.

The festival's partner, Rosatom Corporation, is showing photographs by Hungarian nature photographer Vincze Balint, who visited all ten operating nuclear power plants in Russia. In addition, the exhibition of the Society of Wildlife Photographers of the People's Republic of China was a guest project of the festival. For the first time in Russia, festival guests will get acquainted with the work of nature photographers from the Middle Kingdom, who will talk about the fantastically beautiful nature of their country.

On weekends, festival guests will enjoy a particularly rich program. Meetings with famous researchers, directors, and photographers will take place on the main stage. So, on Saturday, February 9, the festival will host the RGS Day with lectures by famous travelers, as well as geographic quizzes and film screenings of documentaries filmed with grant support from the Society.
