Kaldy is a lake for good fishing and a wonderful holiday
Kaldy is a lake in the north of the Chelyabinsk region. It owes its origin, like most reservoirs in the Urals, to a tectonic shift. The lake is small, its area is slightly more than 1.5 thousand hectares. Oz. Kaldy has an elongated shape: length - about 6 kilometers, width - more than 4. The water in the lake is fresh, with a slight salty taste. The reservoir is quite transparent - visibility is up to 3 meters. The average depth is 3 m, the maximum is 7. The bottom of Kalda, like its shores, is predominantly sandy. Reeds grow in places, and the bottom is covered with silt. The user of the lake is fish.
Kaldy is located 54 kilometers from Chelyabinsk, in the Kunashaksky district. This is the forest-steppe zone of the South Ural region. “Kaldy” translated from the Bashkir language means “left place.” Tradition says that the Bala-Katay tribe used to live here, which was forced out by other peoples. When leaving the lake, they left it this name.

Lake Kaldy is located in the Kunashaksky district, part of the Chelyabinsk region. It is characterized by the warmest water in the area, comfortable sandy beaches and a flat bottom, an abundance of fish and crayfish. There are options for staying at recreation centers, in tent camps and away from noisy companies. On summer days, the shores of the reservoir are filled with beach lovers, and in winter people come here to ski and snowmobile, take a steam bath and plunge into an ice hole. Fishermen can be found here all year round.
Distance from Lake Kaldy:
- to Chelyabinsk - 60–65 km;
- to Yekaterinburg - 150–155 km.
Recreation centers
Kaldy is an open lake, only on the southwestern side the shore is covered with forest. There are numerous recreation centers of various amenities: “Russian Island”, “Azimuth”, “Kaldy”, “Quinta”, “Molniya”, “Silver Key” and “Country of Lakes”. Most holidays on Lake Kaldy are possible in wooden houses and cottages. Each recreation center has its own equipped beach and barbecue area. More comfortable establishments offer other amenities, such as a swimming pool, sauna, shop, cafe, boat and catamaran rental, sports grounds, dance floors and playgrounds. The areas of the recreation centers are fenced and guarded. Almost all institutions allow you to bring your pets with you. The price range is very wide, including depending on the season.
Recreation centers on Lake Kaldy
The western shore of the reservoir is literally strewn with tourist centers, campsites and holiday homes. The territories of most of them are located along the lake, but some go deep into birch groves. Each base has its own characteristics regarding the volume and quality of services provided, infrastructure and level of comfort.
The “standard set” of recreation centers on Lake Kaldy includes the presence of a beach, rental of sun loungers and umbrellas, catamarans and boats, provision of rooms or summer houses, meals in canteens and entertainment programs. There are playgrounds for children, and adults are provided with barbecues and gazebos for picnics.

Both budget and recreation centers adapted to higher requirements are in demand. The most economical stopping option is considered to be “Kaldinka” with modest plywood houses and a minimum range of services. Modern complexes, such as "Russian Island", offer comfortable rooms in 1-3-story buildings, lunches and dinners in cafes, Russian baths on the lake shore with ice-holes in the winter, gazebos with fireplaces, beaches with sun loungers and their own pontoons.
In summer you can ride horses here, and on frosty days you can ski, skate, snowmobile and sled. At any time of the year, banquet halls accept requests for outdoor wedding ceremonies, festive and anniversary events, youth and corporate parties.
In addition to the above, the list of the most popular tourist centers includes:
- "Installer";
- "Land of Lakes";
- "Silver Key";
- "Grinta"
- "Birch Grove".

Fish
Fishing, as a rule, is carried out on a specially designated territory of the lake’s tenant – the fishing lake. It is through the efforts of the Kaldy enterprise that fishermen are always guaranteed a good catch. Every year the company stockes the lake with fish. In 2007, 100 thousand yearling carp, 13 million whitefish fry, 20 thousand pike fry and 2 million burbot fry were released. The fish took root. On Kaldy you can catch carp - up to 10 kilograms, pike - up to three and whitefish - up to a kilogram. In 2008, thousands of trout fry were released into Lake Kaldy (Chelyabinsk region). Unfortunately, this species did not take root in the reservoir. Every summer the fishery releases fry and young fish. In addition to the above species, crucian carp, chebak, tench and cheese are now found here. There are a lot of crayfish in Kaldy.
Kaldy is a mostly quiet lake, only occasionally there is a storm and waves up to 1 meter high. Fishing here is excellent both from the shore and by boat, the only difference being that you can catch larger fish at depth. You can fish all year round - there is no break for spawning. Summer fishing begins as soon as the ice melts. The tour costs 300 rubles per person per day. The catch is not limited. You can purchase the document on the beaches, at recreation centers and in settlements on the coast (Sary, Bolshoye Taskino and Suleymanovo). There are benefits for children under 14 years of age, disabled people of groups 1 and 2, Chernobyl victims and people over 70 years old. Participants in combat operations can fish for free if they have a document. “Underwater hunting” is in great demand in the reservoir, since Kaldy is a lake with clean water. Various championships and competitions are often held here. In summer - for carp, in winter - for whitefish.
How to get there
Lake Kaldy (Chelyabinsk region) is located between Yekaterinburg and Chelyabinsk along the M5 highway. It is very close to the highway - only 800 meters. If you drive in the direction of Yekaterinburg, then 50 kilometers from the traffic police post on the border of the regional center on the right side you need to turn to the village of Bolshoye Taskino, which is located right on the bank of Kalda. If you want to fish or relax on the opposite side, then you don’t need to turn to the village, but drive another 3 kilometers to the junction for Kunashak, turn right at the sign - and you will find yourself where you want. If you get from Yekaterinburg (140 kilometers) - all the same landmarks, only adjusted “to the left”.
How to get to Lake Kaldy
The distance from Chelyabinsk to Lake Kaldy is 60 km, from Kunashak – 20 km, from Yekaterinburg – 140 km.
By car: 3 km. The M5 Chelyabinsk - Yekaterinburg highway runs from the western shore of the lake. The journey from Chelyabinsk by car will take about 1 hour. When approaching the shore, you can follow the signs for recreation centers or enter from the villages located along its banks. On the north-eastern side of the lake there is the village of Sary, on the south - Bolshoye Taskino, on the north-west - Suleymanovo.
By bus: To the transport stop “Turn to Kunashak”, then 3 km. on foot.
Relaxation in nature
Lake Kaldy is beautiful and picturesque! The photos fully convey the charm of this reservoir. The forest around the lake is predominantly birch, with many berries and mushrooms. The western shore of the reservoir has been fully developed by the “savages”; during the season, a real tent city grows here. If you are just going to sunbathe, then on the southern coast there are well-maintained paid beaches. You can also pitch tents there. You won’t have any problems with food: you can buy everything in local stores, and buy fresh fish at a fish factory or from fishermen. But you will have to take care of the firewood yourself, since there are many people around who want it. The lake's water heats up quickly and stays warm up to a week longer than other local lakes. If you are caught in heavy rains, which is not uncommon in the Southern Urals, you can try your luck and rent rooms at recreation centers.
How to get to Lake Kaldy
You can get to the reservoir along the M 36 highway, laid between Chelyabinsk and Yekaterinburg.
By car
All recreation centers are led by corresponding signs installed on the roadsides, so you should turn off the road following these signs. If an independent stop is planned on the northern and eastern shores of the reservoir, then it is recommended to make a turn after the sign for Kushanak. A branch from the highway towards the village of Bolshoye Taskino leads to the southern shore.
Since the M 36 highway has divided lanes, when traveling to Lake Kaldy from Yekaterinburg, at some point you will need to turn around in the opposite direction. Road signs will help you choose the right path.

Lake Kaldy is considered relatively clean, but do not forget that it is located in the zone of influence of the Mayak PA, and also in fact on the territory of the EURT (right in the middle of the lake - from north to south - the border of the radiation trace runs). Research conducted at the beginning of the 21st century. showed that the content of strontium-90 and cesium-137 isotopes in fish does not exceed permissible sanitary limits, but nevertheless approaches them.
How to get to Lake Kaldy
An ideal place for relaxation and fishing!
Kaldy is a typical lake of the forest-steppe zone of the Kunashak district of the Ural region, located eighty kilometers from Chelyabinsk. The reservoir has a round shape and the length of the water surface is 5.44.2 km. The maximum depth is seven meters, and the average is four to five meters. Since the water in the lake is quite clean, the depth of transparency varies from two to three meters. The total surface area is almost 18 sq. km.
The northern and southeastern shores are overgrown with reeds, and on the southern shore there is the village of Taskino. On the southwestern side there are recreation centers. In the northeast and northwest you can see the villages of Sary and Suleymanovo, respectively. There are also many sandy beaches in this area.
These places have very clean air and unusually beautiful landscapes. And the natural environment and lake biological resources contribute to the spread of fishing as the main type of recreation on this lake. But it is worth noting that recreational fishing here is paid, since industrial fishing is carried out on the reservoir. Despite the fact that Kaldy means “abandoned lake” in Bashkir, the reservoir is very popular among wild beach lovers and fishermen.

Where to swim on Lake Kaldy
Lake Kaldy is popular largely due to its beautiful sandy beaches and clear, warm water. About a dozen recreation centers, in preparation for the summer season, are putting the coast, the bottom of the reservoir, and infrastructure in order. There are also many who come to Kaldy to relax in their tent - there are tent camps and places for the “savage” to relax on the lake. Some sections are paid. Fishermen also come to Lake Kaldy. With a successful combination of circumstances, here you can catch perch, pike, whitefish, ripus, and carp with a fishing rod. The only restriction is a ban on fishing during the spawning period.
Most recreation centers are located on the western shore of the lake from the Sverdlovsk Highway. Vacationers are accommodated in rooms in the building or summer houses. The bases have their own beach; in addition, a set of additional services is provided: meals, barbecue areas, boat and catamaran rental, etc. Special offers have been prepared for weddings, corporate events, and festive events.
