For the bream through the first ice to Lake Utkul

Lakes of Altai

Material Information

Lake Big Utkul (Ikkul, Itkul, Itkulskoye) is a large reservoir in the flat part of Altai, located on the above-floodplain terrace of the Ob River (on the border of the Zonal and Troitsky regions of the Altai Territory).

In accordance with the Decree of the AKZS No. 169 and the Federal Law “On objects of cultural heritage (historical and cultural monuments) of the peoples of the Russian Federation” dated June 25, 2002, the cultural and natural landscape of the territory of the Big and Small Itkul lakes and the Itkul River are objects of cultural heritage.

How to get there

The turn to the lake is located at the 313th kilometer of the federal highway R-256 “Chuysky Trakt”, on the section between the village of Troitsky and the city of Biysk. It is necessary to turn right at the intersection following the sign “Art. Bulanikha" (road K-58). Further, after 5.1 km, having crossed the railway line, follow the sign to the village. Borovlyanka 2.7 kilometers, after which at the intersection you need to turn right (straight ahead - the road to the village of Pleshkovo).

To s. Vershinino another 9.6 (17.4 km from the highway), to the village. Utkul – 14.2 km (22 km). Both villages are located directly on the lake.

The second option is to turn right from the Chuysky tract at 318.5 km at the chapel of M. Evdokimov to the village of Pleshkovo (road N-1502). After 6 km you cross the railway line. After 9.4 kilometers turn right. 10.6 km - cross the bridge over the river. Bulanikha, and after 12.5 km - turn left. Further - see the previous paragraph.

As an option to visit the lake by SUV, you can visit the village. Pleshkovo, 9.4 km from the highway at the intersection, drive straight 470 meters, turn left, after 240 meters turn right and along a country road after 5.5 kilometers get to the eastern part of Lake Bolshoi Itkul. The total distance from the highway to the lake is 15.6 km.

Choosing a place when fishing for bream

It's a day off, which means a large crowd of fishermen on the reservoir is guaranteed. This is true! By the time we arrived at Utkul, small groups of fishermen had formed throughout the lake. Some “clusters” of fishing enthusiasts settled along the coastal zone, next to the reed thickets. Some of the fishermen settled down in the middle of the reservoir and their fishing goal was clearly bream and roach, unlike those who, in shallow water in the reeds, were determined to catch perch and medium-sized pike. Our goal is to catch white bream, so we will try our luck in today’s fishing in the deep areas of the lake.

Situated 300 meters from the shore, next to a small group of fishermen, we drilled the first holes. Having measured the depth, which turned out to be about 2-2.2 meters, we began feeding with pre-prepared groundbait.

Tourist value

Lakes Big and Small Utkul are popular fishing destinations. There are two tourist complexes with the same names “Utkul” and a children’s health camp “Brigantina”.

From the north and west, Lake Bolshoy Utkul is bordered by a pine forest (pine forest). In summer it warms up to 25°C, there are sandy beaches. Of particular note is the abundance of mosquitoes in the summer months.

Toponymy

The name of the lake is usually derived from Turkic languages as “dog lake”, although the etymology (reasons for its appearance) is not known. The origin of the name of the lake becomes clear if we turn to the first written fixation: “Ikkul or God”. In Turkic languages, the word yayik “sacred, divine” is known. It can be recognized that ik is a truncated form of the Turkic word yayik in Russian usage. The Turkic yayik is based on the Indo-Iranian word yai “to make a sacrifice.” The appearance of this name (God's Lake) is associated with the large size of the lake and the role it played in the life of the Turkic pastoralists.

However, the original name of the lake has not been established. Firstly, they began to call him Utkul, which not only became established in literature, but was also officially recognized. This is evidenced by the names of the river preserved on official maps. Utkul, flowing from the lake, Utkul railway station on the Altayskaya - Biysk line, and the village. Utkul, located on the western shore of the lake.

Undoubtedly, Utkul is a recent Russian adaptation of the Turkic name Ik-kul (from Yaik-kul). This is evidenced by the map of Biysk district, on which the river (and lakes) are named Itkul.

Of the options for the toponyms Itkul and Utkul, the first one is correct. The Utkul variant is its later transformation. The toponym, obviously, has undergone folk etymological convergence with the Russian word duck.

The original name of the lake is Ikkul.

Lake Utkul in the Troitsky district of the Altai Territory

Lake Utkul is located 140 kilometers from the city of Barnaul. The second name of the lake is Vershinino, after the name of a village located nearby in the Troitsky district of the Altai Territory. The lake has the shape of a horseshoe - on one shore it is adjacent to a pine forest, and on the other - to a birch grove. Lake Utkul is famous for its large number of fish (14 species are found there), so many fishing enthusiasts - both winter and summer - go there for a good catch. Fishing competitions are held there every February. From Tatar the name of Lake Utkul is translated as “meat”; apparently, this place has long been considered “fishy”. In addition, there are crayfish in the lake. A boat and some fishing equipment can be rented. Holidays in Altai have always delighted its guests with incredibly picturesque and diverse landscapes. Tourists who have visited these places note the beauty and tranquility of Lake Utkul. On its water surface you can ride on a “bunion” or arrange an excursion - a ride on a sump. In summer, the water in the lake is clean and warm, so you can swim and sunbathe on the sandy beach. Lake Utkul is great for family holidays - often, while wives and children swim on the shore, husbands go fishing, after which they go boating with the whole family, and then have a picnic, cooking delicious dishes over the fire. What could be better than fish soup cooked over a fire from freshly caught fish? The area around this lake is very calm, quiet and beautiful. Clean air, beautiful views and clear water help to find spiritual harmony during your holiday, creating an atmosphere of relaxation and tranquility. The lake seems to be created for people tired of the bustle of the city. And although the lake itself is clean, the area around it is sometimes unsightly due to the garbage left behind by tourists and “savages” who come there. That is why local residents urge all vacationers on the lake to responsibly preserve the pristine nature of this wonderful place and not leave garbage behind.

Finding a place to stay near Lake Utkul is not at all difficult. There are recreation centers in this area, and residents of nearby villages are ready to provide tourists with cozy guest houses. You can also stay in an organized tent camp or set it up yourself. It all depends on the preferences and requests of tourists, because there are many offers ready to satisfy them, for example, the Priozernaya recreation center is located right on the shore of Lake Utkul. The lake is fresh, flowing; The Bulanikha River flows into it, the Itkul River flows out, which flows through Lake Maly Utkul from the northwest, changing direction several times, and flows into the Chemrovka River.

In the mid-90s, the surrounding area of the lake was 54% plowed, 19% forested, and 6% swamped.

The following villages are located near the lake: in the northeast - Pleshkovo, in the central northern part - Vershinino, in the northwestern part - Utkul. In the central southern part, between Bolshoy and Maly Itkul, the village of Ozerki (now defunct) was once located.

The surface area of the lake is over 10 km2, length 10.8 km, width 1.5 km, average depth - 3.4 m, maximum depth - 10.5 m. The shoreline is flat, overgrown with bushes, in places with steep slopes, of complex configuration.

Semi-submerged aquatic vegetation occupies approximately ⅓ of the basin's 464 km2 area. During the flood period, Bolshoy Utkul is annually filled with water through a system of small rivers. Their water is close in composition to river water: hydrocarbonate class, calcium group, with a favorable oxygen regime throughout the year.

The bottom of the lake is flat. Bottom sediments are up to 2 m thick; the lake is classified as a permanent reservoir, i.e. fish remain in the lake throughout the year and do not die out. Rich in food for fish and poultry.

Among the fish in the lake, mirror crucian carp, carp, bream, tench, perch, roach, carp, and pike are noted.

On the southern bank, at the source of the Itkul River, there is a fish factory, a branch of which is located on the northern bank to the west of the village. Vershinino.

Of particular note is the presence of crayfish reserves in Lake Bolshoy Utkul. Currently, its main fishery has been formed here.

The average size and weight of male crayfish are 125.0 mm and 71.3 g, females - 120.0 mm and 52.2 g.

In 2014, the average size and weight of males was 124 mm and 46.7 g, females - 111 mm and 41.2 g, with a male to female ratio of 2.8:1.

The population density is 222 individuals/ha, the average weight of an individual is 45 g, the commercial stock is 10.0 tons.

In Lake Bolshoi Utkul, 28 forms of chironomid larvae were found, and other insect larvae are richly represented - caddis flies, dragonflies, and mayflies. 21 species of mollusks have been recorded, which constitute up to 69% of the average biomass of the lake.

To the south of Big Utkul there is another lake - Small Utkul. The maximum length of the lake is 2400 meters, width is 850 meters.

The eastern shores of Bolshoy and Maly Utkul are swampy.

In June-August, the water temperature on the lakes usually fluctuates between 16-22°C. Ice formations on the lakes of the region appear in late October - early November. The lake water is slightly mineralized (0.3 g/l) and has a pronounced hydrocarbonate-calcium-magnesium character with a predominance of calcium.

The most famous places of Lake Bolshoy Utkul: Cape Dergach, Kostenkova Lyaga, Lyapustin Cape, Korchazhka, Pionersky and Komsomolsky Capes, Bolshoi Cape.

Story

Excavations carried out in the area of Lake Utkul indicate that people lived here eight thousand years ago.

In the 18th century Lake Utkul was in the joint possession of five Biysk villages and “in all five villages they had a common agreement among themselves to catch fish on one lake with all sorts of small traps... and not to catch fish at all with seines, so that the fish from small traps in that lake would be used for offspring remained."

In 1772, residents of the village of Komarovo filed a collective complaint with the Biysk zemstvo hut against their neighbors from Shubenka, who in Lake Utkul “fished with a large net” and caught up to 60 cartloads of “all kinds of white fish.” The peasants asked to punish the violators of the agreement and to legitimize its terms.

In 1777, at the confluence of the river. Bulanikha in Lake Utkul the village of Pleshkovo of the Biyskaya Sloboda was founded. By decree of the Office of the Mining Administration, peasants from the following villages were resettled to the newly formed settlement: Sokolovo, Bobrovskaya, Komarovo, Borovlyanka of the Beloyarskaya Sloboda and from the Krasnoyarskaya Sloboda.

There are two versions about the formation of the name of this settlement. According to oral sources, the village of Pleshkovo received its name from the name of the place where the first settlers settled, who settled in a bald area (clearing) among the forest surrounding Lake Utkul. According to Yu.S. Bulygina, the village of Pleshkova received its name from the surname of the first settlers - the Pleshkovs. In 1777, 21 Pleshkov families lived in this village.

In 1870, on the right bank of the river. Itkul (Istok), not far from its exit from Bolshoi Itkul, the tradesman Purchaninov settled.

In 1873, immigrants from the village. Pleshkovsky, on the shore of Lake Bolshoi Itkul, the village of Vershinino was formed. It got its name from the name of one of the walkers who was trying to get permission to move out. In total, about 50 souls settled at first. When it was founded, the village was part of the Pleshkovsky society and only in 1880 it was separated, at the request of the local peasants, into a special society.

Of the non-agricultural trades in the village, fishing was the most common, providing the population with large incomes. We fished on the Big Itkul Lake, on the shore of which the village itself stands; The best fishing period was considered to be the first winter months—November and December. In winter, 6 artel seines worked on the lake, and in summer, 3 seines. Fishing spots on the lake were allocated through a draw, in which 2 more seines from the village took part. Pleshkovsky.

Winter seines were usually made of 100-150 soot. length, and their cells should be at least 1 inch, since otherwise the mass of small fish would die completely uselessly; The last condition, however, was not actually observed, although volost chiefs traveled annually to inspect the seines.

Summer seines were made much smaller, 50-60 fathoms, the cells were the same as those of winter ones. The complete equipment of a winter seine, with twines, floats, kibas (weights on the lower part of the net) cost about 100-150 rubles.

Nets for seines were not woven here, considering this an unprofitable occupation, but they were bought in Kuznetsk, where they were brought to fairs by the black Tatars, among whom the net-knitting trade was widespread; A fathom of net was sold for 18-20 kopecks. The floats were made from willow bark; other bark was of little use, as it was soon saturated with water.

The seines were known in the village by the names of the so-called “atamans”. Ataman is the manager of the hunt; he marked the place of the sink, indicated in which direction to move the wings of the seine; The ataman had the responsibility to maintain the uterus, the most important part of the net, while the rest of the team had to repair the wings of the net. Each of the winter nets was divided into 15 shares, of which one was for the queen and seven shares were for each of the wings. One and the same person could have several shares in the net, and in this case he was obliged to support a separate worker or worker for each share when fishing.

The fish, which produced several thousand poods of fish annually from the lake, went mainly to the city of Biysk and the village of Smolenskoye, to fairs. In summer, the fish was salted and also went to Biysk; Sometimes during fasting they sold fish for delivery to villages, although not much. The sale of fish outside was mainly in the hands of local buyers, especially two traders Z. and M. (deciphering not given in the source - E.G.)

Both of these merchants had a whole wing in two nets, and, in addition, in the remaining nets they bought 2-3 shares each; in their nets, where they owned more than half of the net (they were also atamans), they were the complete owners of all the fish caught, since they usually asked money or goods for the fish, and thus winter fishing, the most productive, almost entirely fell into their hands.

In addition to seine fishing, fishing with wicks, of which some had up to 50 pieces, was quite common. They also caught fish with cutter nets, into which they drove the fish with a “batukha” - a tube closed on one side and mounted on a long stick. In the fall, many people went fishing; some even preferred beaming to all other types of fishing, since when beaming they could choose fish and hit only the largest and most valuable ones.

Fish prices in winter were significantly higher than in summer; in winter, a pound of small fish cost 50-60 kopecks, large, selected fish (perch, pike, tench) - 1 rub. 50 k.—1 rub. 90 k.; In the summer, fish were sold in Petrovka for 25-30 kopecks. per pood.

Busy with fishing in the village. Only 15 people were registered in Pleshkovo. In fact, there were slightly more fishermen here. In Pleshkovo there were two artel nets, 140 fathoms long, and 16 shareholders participated in each of the nets; seine fishing was carried out exclusively in winter, on ice; in summer they caught with wicks and nets.

In 1880, at the western end of Lake Itkulskoye, which juts into the shore in this place with two narrow bays, the settlement of Vershininsky was formed. The settlement was formed by five families of immigrants from the Chelyabinsk district and Orenburg province. In 1895, three more households arrived here, in 1898, one family, and in 1899, another family.

In 1874 I.K. Platonov on the right bank of the river. Itkul (Istok), not far from its exit from the Big Itkul Lake, a mill was built, serving mainly to regulate water in the factory ponds at the distillery and glass factories, which were located near the village of Sokolovskoye, on the river. Itkul, from the described mill downstream of the river 25 versts. When there is little water there, the poles at the mill were opened and the height of the water was raised to the required level.

The mill worked for one station and the income from it was used by the backfiller Batishchev, who had lived here since 1887.

In 1897, another family settled here, peasants from the village of Novo-Chemrovki - Slyakishina, who rented only the estate. Burganinov's main occupation was fishing in Lake Itkule; Slyakishin worked in the villages with a saw and an ax.

According to the 1917 census, 25 residents were engaged in fishing in Pleshkovo.

In 1929, the union of hunters under the leadership of the Rybakov brothers organized the fishing artel “Peasant Catcher” in Pleshkovo. The fish were taken to a fish factory in the city of Biysk, for which the factory provided free clothes and nets.

In 1930, the fishing brigade was transferred to the collective farm named after. Shipilova. Later, the collective farm “Red World” was organized with a fishing bias. Then the collective farm “XVIII Party Congress” was also created.

In 1935 A.G. While digging a ditch, Demkov found a stone staff with a sculptural image of a bear’s head, which he transferred to the Biysk Museum (inv. No. 811). At the site of the find, director of the Biysk Museum A.P. Markov collected the lifting material. A.P. Markov also explored the Lebyazhye settlement and the Mikhalev vegetable garden.

In 1939, the director of the Biysk Museum A.P. Markov and museum employee S. M. Sergeev visited the southern shore of Lake Bolshoy Itkul, examining the ancient settlements there. S. M. Sergeev examined site 17 (Demkov’s vegetable garden).

In 1941 in the village. Vershinino Vershininsky village council there is a fishing artel named after. Schmidt.

In 1954, ancient burial grounds were discovered on Lake Bolshoy Itkul. They were found while digging a cellar by fur farmer A.D. Sambursky. Information about this was received by the Biysk Museum.

In 1955 on the lake. Archaeologist and then director of the Biysk Museum B.Kh. went to Bolshoi Itkul. Kadikov. He examined the location of the find and soon began a systematic examination of the Itkul lakes. As a result of this, during 1955-1957. he identified 37 archaeological sites of different times and different types (30 of them on the territory of the Zonal District), including 10 settlements and 2 burial grounds.

In 1959, 1962 and 1963 B.H. Kadikov conducted excavations of a number of monuments on the southern shore of the lake. Big Itkul. The Bronze Age settlements of Lyapustin Mys, Korchazhka 5 and Gorodishche 1 (Itkul 1), settlements of site 17 (Demkova garden, Mikhalev garden) were almost completely explored, excavations were carried out at the multi-layer settlements of Korovya Pristan 1, 2, 3, Ozerki Vostochnye, Lebyazhye.

Exploration excavations were started at the settlements of Shornikova Griva and Korchazhka 1 (Kiryushin, Kadikov, 1980).

In 1962, it was possible to carry out excavations at the site where the burials were found in 1954. 16 burials were examined at the Bolshoy Mys burial ground.

Excavations of this archaeological site were continued in 1976 by researcher at the Institute of Physics and Physics SB RAS V.I. Molodin, however, he managed to find only 2 burials.

In the 60s, the pioneer camp “Happy Childhood” operated on the shore of the lake, later renamed “Brigantine”.

In 1963, carp breeding began in Lake Utkul.

In 1966, employees of the Biysk fish shop released 2,700 female bream into the waters of the lake. Old-timers rightly call the relict lake Utkul a fish lake. Roach, perch, pike, tench have lived here since time immemorial. The carp has taken root well.

In 1977, “new settlers” arrived at Lake Utkul - a million silver carp fry. Their homeland is Ulan-Ude. The fish flew to Novosibirsk by a special plane, and they were transported to Altai by cars. Half of the newcomers were released into the main reservoir, the rest are now in a special rearing pond with controlled temperature and water level.

These are not the first newcomers to Utkul: at one time, peled was released here, and shortly before silver carp, another Far Eastern resident, grass carp. Control shows that they all feel great in their new place.

More than 70 tons of fish are caught on the lake per season. In order to increase the yield of each of its 1,850 hectares, it is planned to create a powerful specialized fishery with a complex of necessary facilities. Some of them, for example, the already mentioned nursery pond, are ready, others are under construction. The latter also includes a hatchery for 20 million eggs. In 1978, with its help, fry of a wide variety of fish breeds were hatched right on the spot.

Active work on the Itkul lakes resumed with the opening of Altai State University. They were continued by ASU teacher Yu.F. Kiryushin. During 1978-1981. He almost completely excavated the multi-layered settlement of Kostenkova Izbushka and the Komsomolsky Cape soil burial ground, as a result of which enormous materials were obtained on the Eneolithic - Early Bronze Age.

In addition, studies were carried out on the settlements of Korovya Pristan 1 and 3, Ozerki Vostochny, and exploratory excavations of the settlements Itkul 2 and Dergach were carried out (Kiryushin, 1980, 1983; Kiryushin, Shemyakina, 1979). Most of the materials obtained belonged to the Chalcolithic - Bronze Age, although there were also later finds.

In 1978 Yu.F. Kiryushin laid out an excavation with an area of 76 square meters on the Komsomolsky Cape. m and recorded two burials with corpses dating back to the Early Bronze Age. Research materials are located in the MAA of Altai State University.

In 1988, archaeological research on the Itkul lakes was resumed. This year M.T. Abdulganeyev carried out excavations at Gorodishche 1, Gorodishche 3 and the settlement of Pereyma-I on lake. Big Itkul.

In 1989 and 1991, he, together with A.A. Kazakov on Lake Maly Itkul carried out excavations at the settlements of Maly Itkul 1 and 2 and the settlements of Maly Itkul 5 and 6 (Abdulganeyev, Kazakov, 1990).

In 1999, the open-air festival of amateur composers “Songs of Itkul Summer” was held on the lake for the first time.

At the end of April 2012, the Kamensky fish factory released carp fry on Lake Malyy Itkul.

On May 21, 2012, Maly Utkul was given to AKOF “Ryboohrana” for use for a period of 10 years. Juveniles of silver carp, grass carp and carp were released into Maly Utkul.

In 2012, two-time champion of Siberia and three-time champion of the Altai Territory in motorsport, Alexei Kruglov, organized the Utkul Extreme competition in the vicinity of the lake. There were 40 crews from Biysk and Barnaul.

On June 8, 2015, a fisheries protection raid was carried out to suppress violations of fishing rules on Lake Bolshoy Utkul. The fact of illegal production of crayfish in the amount of 774 specimens was revealed. Damage—RUB 32,508.

From July 21 to July 23, 2021, the third stage of the Siberian Trophy Raid Championship took place in the vicinity of Lake Bolshoy Utkul.

On October 14, 2021, on the initiative of the underwater hunters community of the Altai region “Prozrak22”, 1200 carp and grass carp fry weighing 237 kilograms were released into Lake Utkul. The money for the purchase of fry, on the initiative of the club, was collected (50 thousand rubles) by underwater hunters from the Altai and Krasnoyarsk territories, Novosibirsk and Kemerovo regions, the Altai Republic, Moscow and Kazakhstan.

Photo+video. Spinning fishing competitions from boats were held on Lake Utkul

On Saturday, July 6, amateur spinning fishing competitions from boats took place on Lake Utkul. What distinguished them from professional ones was the lack of strict regulations. Anglers on motor and rowing boats were allowed to participate on equal terms. 55 amateurs and athletes with ranks in sport fishing took part in the competition from Biysk and nearby areas.

We, like real amateurs in fishing, rejoiced at the weather, considering it compensation for the early rise. It turns out that Saturday’s heat did not promise a good bite or guaranteed results for anglers.

Rushing along the Barnaul highway at the beginning of five in the morning, we enjoyed not only the solitude, but also the surrounding landscapes: the dawn and the fog flowing across the ground.

We arrived at the lake shore before the construction began. Half an hour before the start, anglers received the final instructions: any perch and pike over 30 cm will be accepted for the competition. The winner will be determined by the total weight of the catch and the weight of the largest pike. The results will be summed up in the individual competition, but the organizers allowed two people per boat, since not everyone has a boat. The participants willingly cooperated, but everyone will weigh their catch.

Participants began to pull boats and motors to the water; the start was scheduled for 07:00 from the water. They had to return to shore after the signal at 12:00. The competition took place in one round.

The horns of several cars announced the start of the competition. The motor boats roared, and in the blink of an eye they disappeared from view and spread out across the lake. The rowing boats also gradually moved away from the shore.

But the shore was not deserted at all. Children and adults gathered around a makeshift fireplace, on which a kettle was boiling. They treated us to Ivan tea and morning stew.

After breakfast, many began to fish from the shore, spent time reading traditional fishing stories, and preparing fish soup.

Roman is one of those who prefer fishing from the shore:

“Of course, you can’t catch predators here from the shore.” Tench and rudd were caught well yesterday. I haven’t held a tench in my hands for twenty years, and I haven’t been to Utkul for almost seven years, but yesterday I lost my soul. There were good lines, two hundred grams each.

Finally, we were able to talk with the organizer of the competition, one of the owners of the Taiga fishing store, Kirill Fionov:

— For the first time, we acted as organizers of the competition, and the Altai Fishing Club provided us with great support in this. The event was made possible thanks to their experience. Only a week and a half passed from the idea to today. The cry was sent out on all social networks, and the participants began to actively respond. None of the participants will be left without gifts. Fishermen who show the best results will receive good prizes: for 3rd place - a gift certificate from the Taiga store for 1000 rubles, for 2nd place - a Namazu spinning rod, for 1st place - a Skif boat, provided to us SibRiver company. In the “Big Fish” category (the largest fish among pikes - editor’s note), the winner will receive a River Monster reel from Namazu from .

Since we didn’t have our own boat, we decided to ask the man with binoculars if they were catching fish. It turned out to be the main judge of the competition, Alexander Gordeev.

— I constantly control the fishing process. Firstly, to give a timely signal to our duty boat in case of incidents on the water; secondly, I watch who catches what. I haven’t seen any results yet, they are catching more and more grass. Let's hope for those who have gone to a distant cape. A group of boats does not change position, this is a good sign, obviously there are bites.

Amateur competitions are a less common approach. We do not have strict regulations, a strict line. Here's the water area - depending on your luck.

Competitions are not just sports. We are promoting active recreation, the right kind - so that there is order, so that people get used to spending time in nature with their families,” said Alexander.

While waiting for the participants, I still managed to make a boat trip. Many thanks to Alexander for this. On a rowing boat we reached thickets of aquatic plants, which turned out to be nothing more than water lilies with single yellow flowers in the shape of a capsule.

The day was approaching noon. And so the judge informs the participants that they will have to return in a matter of minutes.

At the signal from the cars, the boats began to moor to the shore one after another. The first weigh-ins showed very modest numbers on the electronic steelyard scoreboard. But newly arrived fishermen from the distant Cape Utukul added to their optimism.

The winners were quickly announced:

3rd place went to Sergei Agafonov;

2nd place and spinning went to Andrey Zavrazhsky;

the winner in the categories “General Class” (5715 g) and “Big Fish” (2290 g), the owner of the boat and reel was Alexander Razmolodin

in the photo on the left

After a standing ovation in his honor and congratulations, Alexander shared the recipe for his success:

— I'm not a professional athlete. The result was thanks to a good skipper, he put the boat in good places. All that was left was to catch it. This is our second competition, last time we observed where people were fishing. As a rule, the bite is worse in summer, especially on such a hot day, but nevertheless there is a result.

The results of the competition were summed up by the organizer Kirill Fionov:

- I think everything went great. Everyone is happy, we are happy too. I assume that there will be comments, we will listen to them and do better next time. We plan to hold competitions two more times this summer: in spinning and feeder fishing. We are not going to stop.

Archeology

Data from paleogeography and paleozoology indicate that in ancient times the flora and fauna of the Itkul lakes and river. Itkul differed from the modern one only in the direction of greater diversity. The climate here is quite mild with warm winters and long summers. Data from spore-pollen analysis indicate that no significant climate changes have occurred over the next 6-7 thousand years. Favorable agroclimatic conditions have attracted people here since ancient times.

Monuments of various eras are scattered along the entire coastline of the lakes. Their largest concentration is on the southern shores of Bolshoy and Maly Itkul. Many monuments fully represent the material culture of various population groups.

Settlements of the Samoyed tribes at the beginning of the 5th-4th centuries. BC, surrounded by ditches and ramparts, assimilate the Kulai culture - Fortifications 1, 2, 9, Cow Pier 2, Lyapustin Cape, Maly Itkul 1, 2, 3, 5, Bridge 2, etc.

The dwellings have a rectangular shape and exit in the form of a corridor. The cultural layers, both in settlements and fortifications, are poorly saturated. The tribes were engaged in hunting and cattle breeding. They hunted primarily elk, and the bones of domestic animals include horse bones. The pottery is characterized by a round bottom and the custom of decorating it with a duck-shaped stamp.

The Chalcolithic era (3rd millennium BC) near the lake and along the Itkul River is represented by the Bolshoi Myssk and Irba cultures. The Bolshemyssk culture was identified on the basis of materials from the Bolshoy Mys burial ground and the early horizons of the Kostenkova Izbushka settlement. The material culture is characterized by dishes with a rounded and pointed bottom, fully ornamented with imprints of a smooth and comb rocker.

In Kostenkovaya Izbushka, Lyapustin Mys and Maly Itkul 1 Irba ceramics were noted.

The Seima-Turbino bronzes include celt axes found on the southern shore of Lake Bolshoi Itkul.

Materials from Kostenkova Izbushka and Dergach speak in favor of the fact that Lake Bolshoy Itkul became their contact zone. This is evidenced by the discovered dishes: a jar shape, a row of pearls, division by notches.

Archaeological monuments of Lake Bolshoy Itkul: 17th section – 2, 3, Mikhalev’s vegetable garden, Demkov’s vegetable garden; Big Cape 1-6; Gorodishche 1-6; Gorodishche 9; Twitch; Itkul-I, III; Komsomolsky Cape; Cow's Landing 1-3; Korczazhka 1-5; Kostenkov's hut; Lyapustin Cape; Bridge over the river Bulanikha; Cape Omshanik; Ozerki Eastern, Northern; Pereyma-I, II; Petrova Griva; Pionersky Cape; Ust-Bulanikha; Vershinina farm.

Archaeological sites of Lake Malyy Itkul: Itkul II; Nod 1; Maly Itkul 1-6; Bridge 1, 2; Shornikova Griva.

Origins

There is an opinion among archaeologists that in ancient times Altai was the shores of an inland sea. It, experts say, was located in the center of a single continent. And this part of the land had favorable conditions for life. This is evidenced by the fact that these places, including Lake Utkul, are home to ancient unique specimens of flora and fauna. The Altai region is rich in reservoirs that carry traces of antiquity. Among them there are salty, mineral, alkaline and fresh. Nowhere else in the world does such a variety of forms coexist.

Miscellaneous

In Soviet times, up to the village. Vershinino was served daily by a commuter train.
