Geographical information

Length 288 kilometers. The drainage basin area is 3950 km². The average water flow is 2.41 m³/s (near the village of Novoplatnirovskaya).

The river begins north of the village of Temizhbekskaya, 4 kilometers from the Kuban River, flowing from the Mirsky pond, filled with streams of two beams. The first settlement from the source of the Chernomursky River. It flows into the Bolshie Chelbassy swamp. Chelbas is connected to the Sea of ​​Azov by several estuaries (Sladky estuary → Gorky estuary → Kushchevaty estuary → through the Chelbasskoe arm to the Beysug estuary).

In the river valley there are the villages of Arkhangelskaya, Novorozhdestvenskaya, Staroleushkovskaya, Krylovskaya, Kanevskaya, Alekseevskoye rural settlement. Chelbas is one of the largest steppe rivers in the Krasnodar region. It flows in practice synchronously with its river some kilometers southwest of the latter.

The name of the river comes from the Turkic word “Chelbasu”, which literally means “ladle of water”: the fact is that, despite its enormous size, Chelbas is very shallow. But the ancient Greeks gave it a much more poetic name: Feofania - “spiritual shrine.”

Celbas pours out of the secular lake, into which, in turn, streams flow from two adjacent beams. Initially, the river flows to the north-west, and then the western direction will suffice. She ends her journey with a rather inelegant role - falling into the quagmire of the huge Chelbasy. Nevertheless, a softer system of estuaries and channels ultimately connects the river with the Sea of ​​Surozh. Chelbas has very few tributaries. The most significant of them are the small rivers Borisovka and Tikhonkaya, on which the city of Tikhoretsk stands.

Chelbas is a very aged river, and this is noticeable in its temperament. In terms of the slow flow and tortuosity of the riverbed, it is similar to it, but the flow of water in it is even less. Chelbas is filled, however, after the end of the spring floods. In the hot summer, like Eya, in some places it can dry out completely, exposing an overgrown muddy bottom. The water in Chelbas is very hard and contains a large amount of salts and minerals. However, it is a little fresher and worse than in hers, it’s still not worth pulling it out.

Sweet and savory

Approaching the Surozh grass, Chelbas, so to speak, ceases to be a river. It is transformed into a complex system of flooded freshwater estuaries, softer and large delta-shaped swamps. These sticky, difficult-to-pass areas are called “reed jungle.” Dense thickets of these plants provide shelter for thousands of waterfowl.

The Chelbasy estuaries are well known to fishermen. The rich food supply attracts large schools of predators, which sometimes achieve unusual dimensions. Fishing on the Chelbassky estuaries is an interesting, purposeful and constantly productive craft.

They are especially remarkable for large pike: specimens weighing 5-7 kg are common here. And sometimes you come across trophy fish - weighing up to 12-15 kg.

A string of seaworthy estuaries wanders from the flooded ponds to the grass: Kushchevaty, Sladenkiy, Nesladkiy and Beysugsky. It’s interesting that the water in unsweetened water is objectively unsweetened, despite the fact that a freshwater river flows using it. But in Sladenkoe, contrary to the name, the water is salty, which is why they called it that - a rebus. All these estuaries are also very rich in fish: goby, sprat, anchovy, pike perch, ram and pike live here.

Fishing on Chelbas is carried out, in most cases, either on estuaries or on one of the 120 flowing ponds. The best season for fishing is considered to be the season; in the heat of July, in the rarest thickets of reeds, it happens that you need to lower your bait into the water - and here you will pull out a big fish. Unless, of course, she breaks the line, which also often happens here. Although, even in the open zone the catches are no worse, however, sometimes they ask for bait.

Fishing in the autumn is much more difficult, because the fish stay at depth at this time. You can’t lure her aground even with bait. The Chelbas River is catchy everywhere. Fishing here goes well in all the extensions and especially in the estuaries covered with floodplains and snags (and large predatory fish love them so much). They bite mainly pike perch, silver carp, pike, roach, perch, crucian carp, bream and bream. There are even glue dots that have nothing to do with cattails or reeds. Any tackle can be used.
