I will try to be as detailed and clear as possible. We will need a spinning rod (telescopic or plug-in) with a length of 2.4 to 3 m with a test, the average range of which is about 30g. For example, 10-40 or 15-50. Those. it must withstand the power throws of a bombard of such weight, as they say, “with all the foolishness.” Therefore, it is better to take care of rods with a test weight of up to 20 grams so that they do not simply slam during casting. You need a spinning spool of size 2000-3000 according to the Shimano classification or a spinning spool whose spool holds at least 100 m of monofilament with a diameter of 0.22-0.25 mm. Large reels (from 4000 according to Shimano) or large capacity spools are simply useless. No power is required at all, and casting further than 80m simply tires when reeling. Not to mention the considerable weight of such gear, when multiple casts simply tire your hands.

Also, do not forget that the fishing line should be wound either flush with the side of the spool, or a couple of millimeters lower. This greatly affects casting distance. If the length of the fishing line is less than the line capacity of the spool, then the so-called. “backing”: electrical tape is wound onto an empty spool to reduce its capacity, and then adjusted to the desired result using the “poke” method. So to speak, “by eye”.

Along the line. Having a long experience of fishing with braids from different manufacturers, I can say with confidence that in these conditions braids are simply not needed. Well, if only for show-off. Firstly, the actual diameter of the braided cord (measured with an optical micrometer) turns out to be much thicker than stated on the packaging. As a result, even the most expensive cord turns out to be not much thinner than the monofilament we need. Secondly, the slightly smaller diameter of the cord is completely offset by its abrasiveness - the friction force against the side and rings during descent significantly reduces the casting distance. As a result, the cord, which costs an order of magnitude more, flies the same (and sometimes closer) as a simple, cheap monofilament. Not to mention the fact that we don’t need strength in these conditions - the strength of a 0.22-0.25mm monofilament is quite sufficient. So, we wind the simplest and cheapest monk, and don’t bother with this issue anymore.

Next we need a bombard. All local stores have them in different sizes and properties. Bombards can be floating, sinking or slowly sinking. We only need a slowly sinking one weighing 25 or 30g.

Let's move directly to the equipment. You need to assemble a fluorocarbon leash 1.5 m long. To do this you will need any fluorocarbon fishing line with a diameter of 0.16-0.18mm

As well as small triple (preferably triple) swivels and hooks of approximately 11-12 numbers. We don’t bother here either.

We assemble the leash, and later for transportation and storage we wrap it on a small foam rubber.

We collect all the gear.

For bait we use maggots (white or red), which can always be bought in fishing stores in Anapa. There are usually 2 to 5 pieces on a hook. The tackle is ready. It should also be taken into account that the bite is much better at sunset, at dusk and at night. And for this you will need a headlamp.

That's all with the hardware. You can fish all over the rocky Vysokoy Bank; there are simply no special “cool” places. A little about fishing technique. The bombard with an attached leash hangs 20-30cm from the tip of the spinning rod, and a power cast is made to 50-80m. This is followed by a pause of several seconds so that the bombard sinks to the bottom or is not high from it. The depth at this distance is generally from 3 to 5 m. The bottom consists of large boulders overgrown with algae and sharp shell rock (for this we need a fluorocarbon leash).

If the bombard has reached the bottom, lift it with a short sharp jerk and very slowly pull it above the very bottom. Having felt the hooks in the algae, we increase the reeling speed, thereby lifting the equipment a little higher. You can also call this technique a “running donkey”. All skill lies in the ability to hold the bait at a minimum distance from the bottom, without catching on the grass and shell rock.

Having felt the bite, we hook sharply and briefly, raise the rod vertically up and quickly reel in the line, preventing the fish from getting into the grass. That's all, actually. There are several more ways of fishing with spinning rods, incl. for silicone, small vibrators, etc., but if you are primarily interested in the result, and not the process itself, you should fish only with this method. It covers almost all coastal fish species, with the exception of pelengas. Maggot serves as a universal attachment for these purposes. And when at one of the stations our six-year-old partner, friend and Nikolaevna’s grandson Lech, joined us, everything that was left at home completely flew out of our heads. And so, having fun, we got to the Anapa train station, which, I note, was very clean. Now a bunch of fishing rods, floats, donks and other gear were waiting for their finest hour. It’s May 18 outside, the air temperature is +26, the water temperature is about +17. Just right for fishing.

From my previous trips to Anapa fifteen years ago, I recalled that local fishermen always fished at the city pier and on the Anapka River, which flows into the sea. The city pier, as it turned out, had thoroughly rotted over these 15 years and was closed for repairs, but the river continued to flow in the same direction. Therefore, it was decided to buy worms at the market, interview the local population about where they were biting and what they were biting on, find a relatively quiet place and go fishing in the evening.

Our next fishing destination was the village of Sukko, located 13 km from Anapa. It is located in the valley of the Sukko River, surrounded by mountains. Once upon a time fifteen years ago, there was also a pier here. However, everything is changing. There is no pier, and people fish directly from the shore. Tackle - a spinning rod, a spinning reel, a fishing line on which a stake of 4-5 hooks is tied through a swivel, at the end of the fishing line - a sinker of about 20 grams or a Tyrolean stick of the same weight. Bait: shrimp, dung worm. Red mullet, sea ruffe, and blenny are caught. The latter is more active.

The fisherman on our left was slowly carrying the entire listed assortment of fish. And Lekha and I, having thrown our fishing rods, periodically climbed into the sea to freshen up. Let me note that the presence of people swimming had no effect on the bite. Therefore, this time we were lucky too.

The next day our detachment moved on. This time to Bolshaya Utrish. We fished here with the same gear as on Sukko: a set of 5 hooks and a Tyrolean stick. Fishing was made difficult by marine vegetation, which was driven by the changing wind and, accordingly, the current.

You throw the tackle into the water and wait for a bite. They themselves have been sitting since 9 am, they have about a dozen red mullet to their credit. Yeah, and it’s 15.00... Here I’m a little depressed. Six hours for a dozen mullet... A taxi here costs 500 rubles, a mullet at the market costs 400 rubles per kilo. No, you can, of course, travel by transfer minibuses, but it will take too long. It was fitting that I remembered the folk wisdom about sheepskin and its preparation.

The subsequent daytime heat at +36, and then at +39, led to the fact that the sea warmed up, and the mullet’s run began to decline.

then right on the beach of our boarding house, in the shallow waters, rapans lived. And one day after lunch, taking advantage of the calm and clear water, I collected enough of them for testing. Finding shellfish was quite easy. You go and examine the bottom through the clear water. Living shells differ from empty shells in color, shifted towards greenish. It was much more difficult to pick out the treasured protein from the shell. Having broken off the tip of my favorite knife, I took a mini-shovel from my backpack and went under the cover of darkness to fight with the shells on the stone steps of our building. After a short “fight,” the rapana surrendered.

In the morning, the “revenge” of the rapans awaited me. In some places on the fingers of the hands that actively picked the meat of the rapans, the skin acquired a green tint, and after immersing these very hands in sea water it became completely purple. Moreover, it cannot be washed off with any soap. But the rapanas themselves turned out to be very tasty and aromatic. At home, to my shame, I learned that it was easier to cook rapana in shells. Then you wouldn't have to worry about getting them out of there.

Once, leaving Lech with her grandmother for a quiet hour, I went to explore the Vityazevsky Estuary, located north of Anapa in the village of the same name, a 15-minute ride by minibus. In the satellite image, the estuary was impressive in size, and local websites were actively promoting fishing in it. But don’t always trust the Internet. From the side of the village of Vityazevo, indeed, the once vast water area of the estuary stretched.

But now, with drained water, an overgrown bank and abundant colonies of seagulls, it looked like a huge drying puddle, reminiscent of an environmental disaster. I couldn’t believe my eyes and began asking locals about what I saw. The good-natured population confirmed the situation and advised me to sit and fish in the local pond since I had already arrived. I didn’t sit on the pond...

Four days before the end of the vacation, our detachment moved on reconnaissance to the area of the so-called High Bank of Anapa. Descent to the sea by steps, pebble beach, stones, respectful depth and a pier protruding far into the sea. Well, I think, finally. I try the first cast on a pile of stones near the shore.

A young fisherman from among the visitors is trying to seduce ruffs with a spinning tackle on a twister. There are pokes, but no bites. I throw a bet with a Tyrolean stick. Here they catch exclusively horse mackerel, exclusively with tyrant or bombardo, and the process itself, that is, biting, will begin after sunset. And now all the seats are occupied. It turns out that my bet with the Tyrolean stick is not relevant here at all. Just hook the hooks into the mud.

Three days before departure, returning from the market, Nikolavna and I drew attention to the civilian part of the Anapka River. Right in the city. The number of fishermen present made one wonder: is everything so bad with fish in Anapka? And a hefty cage with crucian carp from one of the 13-year-old fishermen directly said that they needed to fish here. Only early in the morning, while the city is sleeping. At first, out of habit, we tried to get into the wilderness, and didn’t even consider fishing 100 meters from the embankment.

So, a new plan was born. In the morning, before the signal, Nikolavna wakes me up. Two float rods collected in the evening are waiting at the door. I grab my backpack and go. The morning is cloudy and stuffy. The minibuses are not running yet. I practically run towards the river. Every minute of a quiet morning is worth its weight in gold.

And here I am. 7 am. Clouds are frowning overhead. If only it wasn't raining.

I take a deep breath. I feel like there is crucian carp here, but the main thing is not to rush. Cast, the float goes with the flow. A bite, a hook, and now it sparkles with its golden scaly side on the grass. The next crucian carp goes to the cage in 5 minutes. Then the third. Then a couple of gatherings. And here is also a roach in the bycatch. I look at the time - 8 am, and from behind the clouds the southern sun smiles welcomingly. That's it, the rains are canceled!

Then follows a short break in bites. Apparently, the ducks swarmed in and scared them away. But after half an hour I don’t have time to keep track of the two fishing rods. I throw one into the wiring, the second closer to the grass. Oh, it’s a pity, Nikolavna stayed in the room. Well, you can’t leave sleeping Lech alone. By 9 a.m. I realize that my fishpond resembles the one the young fisherman had yesterday. From the other side of the shore, a fisherman approaches. He looks with barely concealed envy. Rest on the Vityazevsky Estuary

It is still quite possible to find something quite quiet and peaceful here. There is no need to count on any special successes here. You can catch blenny, red mullet, and sea ruff. Everything is quite small, but enough for fish soup over a fire. Vacationers swim nearby, which for some reason does not affect the bite. Perhaps the fish got used to people and the noise they made.

They also fish in Bolshoi Utrish, the gear is as follows: a Tyrolean stick and a bet of 5 hooks. Mostly it is red mullet, and besides, fishing becomes problematic due to the sea vegetation that is driven here by the wind.

But if you have a spatula, you can collect rapans, they are delicious. And on the market they are expensive enough to pay for the trip. It is best to cook them in your own sink, this will make it easier to remove the meat without the risk of cutting yourself or breaking your favorite knife. But in general you need to handle them carefully: you can get deeply and severely injured. And when collecting, you should learn to figure out where the living shells are, so as not to end up with a collection of dummies. So, those that are useful in culinary terms have a greenish tint.

Getting to the fishing spots on the High Bank is a bit difficult, the cliffs are serious, so it’s worth taking a flashlight with you. Especially considering the fact that mackerel is caught here using a bombard, and the best bite begins after sunset. And, by the way, you need to occupy fishing spots in advance. But, they say, a sea of impressions is literally guaranteed.

You can still fish in the Anapka River, in the part that is located right in the city. Crucian carp are doing well, and roach is often caught.
