How to make trimmer line softer

How to Soften Mono Leader

We'll look at a quick and easy procedure to help soften stiff mono leaders for better line lay and bait presentation.
It should be noted right away that we are not talking about leadcores - it doesn’t matter, with or without a core - we are talking about leaders made from copolymers such as monofilament and fluorocarbon. If you are using this type of leader, then the following process will be extremely useful to you.

Obviously, fluorocarbon and thick mono lines have many advantages, but they also have one unpleasant drawback: they have memory, taking on different shapes, and cannot be smoothed out even under load tension.

Naturally, once in the water, they not only do not take the shape of the bottom, but even on a flat surface they lie crookedly, lifting up in parts.

I hope there is no need to explain to anyone how important high-quality laying of the fishing line on the bottom surface is. Therefore, sometimes it is necessary to soften the leaders so that they do their job and not ruin the whole tackle.

The following method was first shown by the editor of a fly fishing magazine, but for our business it is perfect. The whole procedure is extremely simple, it can also be easily done on the shore of a reservoir. The main accessories are a kettle with boiling water and vinegar.

1. Boil water in a kettle.

2. Measure 50 ml of vinegar into something.

3. Place the leader on the reel in a container (mug in example) and add bite.

4. Immediately after this, pour boiling water in a ratio of five to one.

5. Cover the container and leave for five minutes.

Rinse the leader thoroughly with water at room temperature. Ready!

Pour 50 ml of vinegar into a medium-sized mug. Then we lower our leader into it: it is desirable that it be wound on a reel, and not just crumpled up. Now add boiling water in a ratio of five to one. The mug should be filled. Cover it with something to prevent steam from escaping and leave for 5 minutes.

After this, thoroughly rinse the entire coil with the leader with water at room temperature so that the smell disappears. Now try the leader, it should become softer and more pliable.

The change occurs due to the creation of an acidic environment. Dilute acid and high temperature soften the material, but do not weaken its strength one bit. I'll tell you honestly, I was very impressed with the result.

This technique can be applied not only to leaders, but also to fluorocarbon and monofilament leaders. Of course, rigidity is often necessary, but there are times when it is preferable to use a softer material.

I repeat once again: the procedure does NOT reduce the strength of the material.

Everyone has a kettle and vinegar, so nothing is easier than keeping your leaders in proper shape. Use it!

Blood Knot for tying the leash to the main line

It is used to tie fishing lines of different thicknesses.

Take the two ends of the fishing line and connect them to each other. Loop one end of the line around the other. It is necessary to make at least six careful turns, then return to the beginning of the winding and thread the end of the winding end between the fishing lines. Then we wind the second end of the fishing line around the first. We return to the beginning of the winding, stretch the end between the fishing lines. The knot is ready, all you have to do is tighten it.

A very strong knot and great for tying fluorocarbon line to monofilament or braided line. The games being linked can have completely different diameters.
