Sights of the complex

Despite the fact that now the main mansion is not in the best condition, it remains an example of enfilade architecture of the second half of the 19th century. Approximately half of the restoration work has been completed, including in the state rooms of the second floor.

The southern part of the planting, located near the Shchukinskaya metro station, is the most well-groomed. It is called the Pokrovskoye-Streshnevo Park. The northern part is the Pokrovskoye-Glebovo park.

In addition to the usual Russian birch, pine, ash, maple, elm and oak trees, the forest park contains larches, majestic cedars and decorative willows, bending over the banks of ponds that overgrow in the summer. The linden alley is especially attractive, fragrant with its unique aroma.

A favorite vacation spot for Muscovites is the beach area of the park. On the banks of the Khimki River there is a spring bearing the symbolic name “Swan Princess”. It is recognized as the only environmentally friendly source within Moscow, the water of which not only quenches thirst in dry summers, but also has healing properties.

Now the Pokrovskoye-Glebovo-Streshnevo area, in accordance with the architectural plan of the capital, has been declared a protected area. Active restoration of the manor's estate is underway, and the temple is being restored.

At the same time, restoration of the estate's buildings began - the main house , fence, corner tower, part of which collapsed in the winter of 1983-1984. The lost volume of the palace has been restored. Pay attention to the sculptures of newts decorating the main staircase. Their sad expressions seem to predict the sad fate of Pokrovskoye-Streshnevo.

The red brick fence has been largely restored, and the Church of the Intercession . Its strict light silhouette behind the front cast-iron gates successfully fits into the gap in the walls of the stone fence overlooking the Volokolamsk highway.

In the mid-1990s. The greenhouse was completely restored . Among the historical objects on the territory, the dilapidated concrete sculpture “Hermes with the Baby Paris” and two pedestals of busts from the early 20th century have also been preserved. and a pedestal of a sculptural composition (presumably “Cupids”).

On the territory of the estate, beavers built a dam on the Khimka River. Moreover, they continue to build. A fascinating spectacle for young park visitors. The only thing that the staff of the estate asks is not to make too much noise, so as not to irritate the animals. But you can take some apples with you. Beavers love them very much.

Currently, the Pokrovskoye-Streshnevo forest park is a fairly large natural area and one of the largest recreational areas in the North-West of Moscow, along with Serebryany Bor.

A favorite vacation spot for local residents is the ponds located in the eastern part of the park. There is a beach area around a large pond, where small trees with a spherical crown are clearly visible. This is one of the decorative forms of willow.

The park is home to squirrels, voles, beavers, muskrats, rats, and numerous species of birds - ducks, nightingales, woodpeckers, nuthatches, finches, warblers, buntings, tits, jays, robins, blackbirds.

The park is badly neglected, the layout of the regular part is difficult to read and needs restoration work. Nevertheless, thousands of people come here to breathe in the fresh park air and take a break from the hustle and bustle of the dusty metropolis.

Places for leisure and sports

Few people do not recognize the most striking sports facility in the area. Otkritie Arena, the home stadium of FC Spartak, was inaugurated in 2014 and since then has attracted not only football fans, but also music fans: major festivals and concerts are regularly held here. However, the leisure and sports infrastructure of Pokrovsky-Streshnev is not limited to this bright stadium.

How to get to Pokrovskoye-Streshnevo Park

The park is located in the north-west of Moscow and occupies the territory of the former Pokrovskoye-Glebovo-Streshnovo estate, which is a cultural heritage site. It is beautiful in its pristine beauty, it is a quiet green corner, with ponds and meadows where you can have a picnic or just take a walk.

There are many animals and birds here, you can feed ducks, squirrels and even see beavers. The park is landscaped: children's playgrounds, paved paths, a special area for barbecues, toilets, gazebos - all this makes your stay there cozy and comfortable.

History of the estate complex

In the north-west of the Russian capital, in the Middle Ages the village of Podjelki was located, and in 1629 the magnificent Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built. The built Pokrovskoye estate was later named after the name of the church. It belonged to the noble Streshnev family, who were relatives of the Romanov dynasty.

Evdokia Streshneva was the wife of Tsar Mikhail Fedorovich Romanov, the mother of Alexei Mikhailovich Quiet. From that time on, the estate began to be called Pokrovskoye-Streshnevo.

At the beginning of the 19th century, it received a new name: Glebovo-Streshnevo, or Pokrovskoye-Glebovo. This is due to the peculiarity of the double surname of the new owner of the estate, Elizaveta Streshneva-Glebova.

From the end of the 19th – beginning of the 20th centuries. Small residential dachas began to appear one after another near the estate. At one time, famous people of that era lived here: the historian N.M. Karamzin - the author of the immortal volumes “History of the Russian State”, the doctor A.E. Bers, whose daughter met her future husband L.N. Tolstoy in Pokrovskoye.

Another wealthy philanthropist, a doctor by profession, S.P. Botkin allocated large funds for the reconstruction of the Intercession Church.

In the post-revolutionary period, the estate, together with the dachas, became state property and was turned into a Central Committee sanatorium, and then became the property of a rest home for textile workers. In 1925, a museum was organized on the territory of the estate, which was soon ravaged and completely destroyed.

Currently, the green area around the former estate is divided into two main parts. The forest park is divided by the Volokolamsk highway and the ring railway.

The most living water in Moscow

Residents of the area still, either jokingly or seriously, call the park around the Pokrovskoye-Streshnevo estate Carlsbad.
This city in the Czech Republic, now Karlovy Vary, has gained worldwide fame for its healing mineral water. “What does Pokrovskoye-Streshnevo have to do with it?” — I ask local resident Svetlana Yuryevna , who volunteered to show me the way to the spring with the poetic name “The Swan Princess”.

“There is a legend that Empress Catherine II suffered from trophic ulcers on her legs. And, while in Moscow, I visited our Pokrovskoye-Streshnevo. She washed her feet at the spring and was healed. So we call the spring “our Carlsbad,” my fellow traveler shares.

The water temperature is constant all year round, +6 degrees. And in principle, Svetlana Yuryevna was not joking when she called Carlsbad the “Swan Princess”. They say that healing water cures not only skin diseases, but even stomach ulcers, and some ladies are sure that if you wash your face with it, you can get rid of wrinkles.
