The Yenisei river valley is inhabited by both sedentary and migratory forms of representatives of the ichthyofauna. Fishing for bream and carp, which are caught mainly from the shore, is popular on the river. From the boat, the first step is fishing for grayling using a Tyrolean stick. Also, among local residents and visiting fishermen, spinning is highly valued, the target of which is considered to be perch, pike and pike perch.

In addition to the types of fish familiar to the common man, there are also quite rare specimens:

muksun and nelma;
whitefish, whitefish;
flax and dace;
vendace and various types of goby.

Fishing for many inhabitants of the Yenisei is prohibited or limited. Thus, you can go fishing for grayling only with a special permit if you use a swimming device. Hunting for taimen is prohibited along almost the entire length of the river. Massive and unlimited fishing of this salmon representative has led to a reduction in the population size.

Of course, the fishing of sturgeon fish, including sterlet and Russian sturgeon, is completely prohibited. If rare prey is accidentally hooked, it must be released.

On August 18-28, 2013, we had to fish on one of the tributaries of the Yenisei, still untouched by civilization. A little about us: initially there were three teams of us, two people per boat, but one team could not, due to family circumstances, complete the entire route planned for 10 days and after three days departed back to Prokopyevsk for their urgent business, and the two remaining teams continued fish until the end.

The path ahead of us was not close. To the place from which we landed on the Yenisei from Prokopyevsk exactly 1100 km in one direction, further to the North along the Yenisei many more tens of kilometers by motor and then entering our river X along which we had to climb another 40 kilometers.

On the 18th we moved from Prokopyevsk to the Yenisei. The route is, in principle, standard and not at all secret: Kemerovo, Mariinsk, Bogotol, Achinsk, Krasnoyarsk, Lesosibirsk, Yeniseisk.

I didn’t photograph any further sights, although in Lesosibirsk and Yeniseisk there was something to catch your eye with their wooden barracks, a purely northern way of life, a port on the Yenisei, churches and remnants of the Soviet past, huge piles of firewood everywhere (they seem to have a hard time with coal). Lack of time did not allow me to capture all these features of local life.

We arrived on the banks of the Yenisei late at night, so we decided to soak in the cars until dawn. At dawn, life on the Yenisei immediately began to boil; our teams began pumping up the boats, lowering the boat, loading equipment, gasoline and provisions. And now we are at the mouth of the X River, the first stop. The beauty of the place is simply amazing: remote, impenetrable taiga along the banks mixed with mountains and NOBODY! No one at all! Old Believers live at the mouth, but they don’t need this fishing for nothing.

I’ll say right away that the photo and video equipment completely failed me in this alloy, so I wasn’t able to photograph everything, not everything worked out, so the amount of material is of course scanty. But there is a reason to think about new photographic equipment.

After the first stop and having already gotten pretty wet, we decide to stop on a large sandbank, especially since the place for an overnight stay is quite comfortable, and the river promises to reward us with our first catches with a powerful roll along the camp. You can catch a mouse both day and night, but Vital knows how to do it perfectly, we acted as students and some of them did it well, which Andrey did, catching a qualifying lenok already under the cover of darkness. Weight 2010

On the very first night it started to rain, and the morning greeted us with fog, which, however, dissipated very quickly, promising a good bite. Lenki didn’t have to wait long and Vital, with the skill characteristic only of him, literally pulled them out like a mouse from the depths of the riffle right in front of our camp. All we had to do was take the fish into the landing net and learn from Vitali the details of how to correctly guide the mouse in the water. However, within a day everyone began to catch lenok, and some of them!

There is excellent fishing here, pike, perch, sorog go well, and sometimes nobler creatures like peled are caught. One bad thing is that you can’t go there for a day; from the village of Pervomaiskoye to the river there are several kilometers that you have to walk. There are a couple of fishing huts on the shore, but they may be busy, so it is better to take a winter tent and everything you need for snow tourism.
